Just shut up and take my money, Take every last cent you need.

Thanks for giving me something to hope for. I have little in the way of computer skill but would happily donate some of my discretionary funds if it will help keep the lights on. Paragon wiki has always been there for me and I would love the chance to support you in this.

You would have my full support in this endeavor. Every cent I could muster. Even if I had to sell objects from other hobbies, they all are nothing in comparison to my love for City of Heroes. Above all else, this game is what I need in my life. (Well aside from food, clothing, shelter, etc... but that's not being discussed right now ;P)

Let's hope NCSoft listens.

hmm... Once CoH closes, I'll probably need to pull City Status off the AppStore... but once/if the Titan Network can manage to launch anything, I'll definitely have it ready to push back out.

I wanna release a new version, so you better pull it off

I will donate all that I can if you can accomplish this.

Friends don't let friends buy an ncsoft controlled project.

Hey, if its Player run we can get Arcana doing balance, Samuraiko doing cut scenes...

It could be better.

Of course, I still want the devs.

Kickstart it...I will throw money at you, well what I have anyway.

I no you've heard anything I can do, but I'll say it. I love this game. It's the first game I ever played online. Almost dropped it, but the CoH community showed me so much support (Sometimes laughing as I made dumb mistakes.) Bottom line, I'll donate or do whatever else I can to your cause. Good luck.

What's that Puddin Pop?

...Ahhh that's the good stuff.

I saw others mention how much this means to them...

It means a lot to me too. Not just the time I put into it, but WHY I put time into it.

As one gets older life has a way of beating on you. Be it death of a beloved relative or the rug being pulled out from under you in an unexpected manner...In my younger days I turned to substances for a means of escape...In the past 6 years City was a much healthier means to get away from real life a bit...A time to help others...not the virtual people, but the other players...some times I was the helpee...sometimes the helper...

Still at a loss, I hope some of you know what I mean...

I would contribute to this.

Considering I drop upwards of $250 a month on online trivialities, and won't be spending a DIME of that on NCSoft products after this...

Post the plan to resurrect CoH and I'll gladly chip in.

Things like this make me think back to some words Jason Scott had when AOL shut down AOL Hometown without warning a few years ago.

I wonder how much of he said can apply to situations like MMOs closing down. Or virtual worlds like Second Life, especially, considering that virtual property is bought, sold, and used there. Which also happens in MMOs, especially big, old ones like City of Heroes.

" We’re talking about terabytes, terabytes of data, of hundreds of thousands of man-hours of work, crafted by people, an anthropological bonanza and a critical part of online history, wiped out because someone had to show that they were cutting costs this quarter."

Unfortunately, I never got many people to give a crap about a server emulator while the live game was running.

There is only one guy coding the server emulator, nemerle, but he is (very slowly) active. He released the third alpha last month, with a working costume creator and loading the mapserver (though you can't move or anything; it just loads). It's using an old version of the client (circa issue 3) in order to get the basic protocol decoded, and then add the new features on top of that. With the live servers closing soon, capturing real traffic between the client and the server for the latest client version is essential if this thing is going to go anywhere.

Any coders who want to help, look at segs.nemerie.eu/forumz

Starting another COH emulator when one has already made (very little) progress is foolish. We don't have much time to gather the information on server traffic we need, so we need to get a bunch of coders interested in this NOW.
Well, that was my bad, it looks like most of it's written in C++, but for some reason I ended up on a page full of SVN changes to ruby files.

Still is very outdated. The auth protocol is totally different now, and it doesn't look like it includes the encryption code that's been in places for quite a while. The schema is terribly old as well. Still, it might be a good reference, or a starting point for a "classic" Issue 1 server.

But just to be clear, nemerle isn't the only one working on cool stuff.

TonyV you are being naive and possibly dangerously harmful to *practical* hopes of changing things by diverting peoples' enthusiasm away from a real effort at getting the data saved and private servers created (not controlled by any one clique). They will not listen, they will not give any quarter, there will be nothing left, just like Tabula Rasa (private server attempts, in secret after NCsoft sent a cease and desist legal threat to the website they were on before! host websites in countries that Korea/America has no power over!) if you are complacent that "somehow we can work things out"...

There is no reasoning with a Corporate Person...

I support this wholeheartedly as well and you'll have a donation from me if you can keep even just one server up.

Let's face it, best case scenario is you get to keep the lights on, even still a LOT of the population will be moving on. One server will most likely be all we need. As long as its well populated and active, well that'll be fine for me.

I'm on board.

I've got the other thread bookmarked, and will keep following this. I am not exactly wealthy but could throw something at this if it looks like there's a real hope- and you're the first person with something that resembles a real plan, other than "can we do something".

Also, win or lose, thank you for TRYING so quickly! I think a lot of us need that.

if the sale of the ip does not happen...i would look into starting a new world with a new game engien. have a new story or old hero reboot the new game.

Thank you TonyV and crew, for maintaining the Titan Network. It was a great resource before I started working here, and after as well. Absolutely loved making Mids' builds! It was great seeing you at the Player Summits.

I'd help in any way I can. I don't have much, but I can scrounge up something. Good luck!

A thanks to everyone at Titan Network for your hard work and great tools for understanding the mechanics of the game and improving my play.

And best of luck with that goal, Tony. I'd really hate to lose this game, even though I'm one of those brought in by Freedom and not an 8yr vet.

This is a case of "shut up and take my money". (if it comes to a point where there's a potential for success)

For what its worth, you have my support Tony. I don't know how realistic the endeavor is, but we might as well swing for the fences.
