Meanwhile, in the Halls of Titan...

However it works out, I planned to sub for the next year so I can certainly put that towards saving the game if you are able to make any progress.

Personally I don't think Tony or anyone will be able to pull this off. I wish him the best of luck but corporations rarely sell IP that they own.

I do hope he keeps the Titan forums up for a year or two post destruction as a place where we can stay in contact with each other and perhaps continue topics like those found on the Comics Hero/Villain Culture forums, since the rest of the boards here would be kind of pointless without a game.

I'm in. I'll pay dues, throw in what seed capital I can, and support any and all efforts.

I will definitely contribute. I can also see if I can put my fundraiser experience to use, although I think you have your audience here.

Unfortunately I'm not much of a coder so I wouldn't be much help on the server replication effort.

Thanks TonyV. Yours is the first reasonable response I've heard to this abominable decision to shut down a great game. I'm willing to support the project in any way I can.

Even if it doesn't work out, it was worth a try.

Awesome job as always from the Titan Network crew ! I just hope you'll be to work it out. In any case, count me in as one of the -many- volunteers who will try and support your endeavor (time + money if needed).

CoH has given me so much, now is the time to repay this debt !

That's hopefully not the only option on the table. My current working plan is to propose two possible alternatives, in this order of preference:

1) Allow us to buy the IP and code base outright. We buy new servers, install the software, crank it all back up.

2) Allow us to license the IP and the server software, and give us the rights to distribute the client. They would still own the IP and software, we'd just be "renting" it from them. This is how most software "purchases" work when you, for example, buy Microsoft Word or similar software.

There are a few other options I've thought of, but those are by far the best two outcomes. But no matter what, if all else fails, I plan on throwing the ball back in their court and basically asking, "Okay, what's it going to take?" If the answer is, "There's nothing you can offer," or if they ask for something ridiculous, then at least we tried. If they're willing to work with us, then hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement that will allow us to keep the servers on.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

Whether or not NCsoft will even give a petition of this nature a second glance, it's still worth the effort to support the idea. It's better than doing nothing, and I doubt anyone could realistically argue that fact.

I started this petition earlier today, roughly an hour after the initial press release, and this seems to be another suitable thread to bring it to attention.

It doesn't matter if their past track record has proven they won't budge. I feel better having created this petition, and I'm sure others feel the tiniest bit better having added their signature to it.

I'm very keen to help out in any way that I can. Unfortunately I don't have any programming knowledge, but I'm sure there are other things that can be done. This game has been a big part of my life and I don't want to see it go.

With the character data and graphics this wouldn't be a problem. But with NCSoft licensing the game engine from Cryptic, they were reliant on them continuing to provide licensing for the game engine itself. But since another MMO either purchased the engine from Cryptic or licensed it from them it drove the engine costs too high for NCSoft to either pay for or have any continued access too. Guess it's not a perfectworld for CoX players unless NCSoft sells the game property back to Cryptic or the company that currently licenses the engine in the event of a non-competition clause.

I'd donate. Not sure what I've got spare but you've got some cash from me.

I'm also a professional software developer. I'll be contacting nemerle, mentioned by Leandro regarding the emulator.

If anything else comes along, say the IP gets bought and pushed onto sourceforge (wouldn't that be great :-) - then I'll be contributing cash and code.

So... we don't want to continue on with the game, but we don't want anyone else to have it? That's like.... the epitome of greed.

I will definitely be keeping tabs on this. Hopefully something can be established. Will support you guys all the way, however I can.

I would be willing to throw real money at this (well, a grand or two), yes.

I wish you luck in this endeavor, but I don't expect it will bear fruit.

Thank you very much for this effort.

I would be willing and able to donate to this project as well.

In addition to an initial contribution amount I would also be perfectly willing to continue to pay monthly subscriptions for my accounts just to keep the servers running, even if there is no further development to the game.

I too, would be willing to donate Time, Money, and pretty much anything you could need to help out with it.

I'm down. I have next to nothing. But I've handled having nothing before. Let's be the next City of Heroes.

Community of Heroes?

It has a nice ring to it.

Something really has to be done.
I will support the heck out of anything if its money to start up a project or to help keep servers, you bet i'll help. I'd pay $15 a month for a game like this any month.

When it comes down to it, it's all about money. Well CoH was that unique thing that made money. It was new and exciting for it being a comic book themed mmo rather than a fantasy mmo.

The thing is, fantasy is the same old **** over and over. No uniqueness. Just fantasy lore. So eventually when you break it down it's all the same.

Now enter COH, which has an almost entirely different type of community. In order to make a successful MMO you need competition to make yourself push more to be the best. When the MMO's drop out of the comic theme MMO, which DCUO and CO will eventually go that route, they will lose their ability to survive and to will fall. People will get bored. I'm not a fantasy buff, as im a comic book fan, so I cannot get into anything else like the unique experience City of Heroes has offered.

Basically, I get the game gets old, what doesn't? The thing is, they built a community that will ALWAYS comes back. Through the worst updates of the game, to the best. They will be back. Because this is something different. This is something unique and unlike the rest. A pioneer in its own, if you will. Now they pull the plug and hope to make more revenue by investing time and resources into these other projects. When the problem still stands that without competition, you get worse and worse and it all becomes cliche. That's what the MMO experience is outside of coh. Very... very cliche.

I just don't want to see it go. Not like this.

Let me know where to send funds, and what else is needed to save COH.

I can't program, but I can help in other ways.

Be happy!
