  1. I sincerely hope "the gloves are off" means some earnest work is being done on a private server, because at this point hijacking Paragon city is the only choice.

Need a "we're going to steal the Declaration of Independence" style meme for this undertaking.

Get to it code people, you're our only hope!
  2. Zwill, I'm honored to call you a friend and even though your leaving is something awful, wish you the best in all you do, take care bud. Stairs.

I'd wager it would hold the remaining population pretty well and would love to see the remaining population crash it if it can't handle everyone. Seeing a server back that active again for the last few weeks would be awesome.

Forgot about that Billz, AWESOME. I can finally get someone besides my main all the sweet Incarnate stuff.
  4. Myself and a few friends are already playing exclusively there. Beta is perfect for the last few weeks of CoH, the store is mostly free so you can load up on all the awesome extras and you can play i24 to experience new content.

No use spending the last few weeks spread across multiple servers. Consolidating the remaining players on one server could make the game feel alive again too and transfers there are free.

If we get a good population going on beta we can start up some End of Days global channels for discussion/teaming. Don't forget to try out the new Blaster changes and Bio Armor. Also, all the Power Amplifiers and XP Boosters are free, so load up. Buy (for 0 points) all those enhancement tray and costume slot additions and go to town.

Here's the character copy tool for transferring your existing characters over:

Let's get specific about what is needed...
If I'm not mistaken Tony and a few others are very quietly (for good reason) working on this as the last resort plan, so maybe they'd know more about it. I believe one server could more than handle what will be left of the population after all this is said and done.

I hope I'm right that it's being worked on, this has been my soapbox since the announcement; a pirate server is the only way CoH will live on in at least some way. I hope I'm wrong, but I do sincerely hope some work is being done on this front.
  6. Just going to reiterate what I've been saying the whole time. I support and appreciate all the efforts to legitimately save the game, but I do not anticipate them working in any way.

Bypassing NCSoft and building a private server is the only real way to keep CoH going, in my opinion of course. Would we have our awesome dev team or development at all? Nope, but we'd still have a Paragon City to log into, and that's all I'm hoping for at this point.

    False Hope

    And here I was expecting some good usage of a Bane quote;

"There cannot be true despair without hope."

    Are you Paragon's Reckoning?

Also, as I mentioned on Freedom the night of the news, when the devs were having fun:

I knew that the moment they removed Statesman's existence from the game entirely (load screen included), they had removed the Heart of the game, and it was only a matter of time before the body died with it.

(Shortly after my comment, Statesman appeared in Atlas.)

I'm not saying the removal of Statesman is why CoH is shutting down, but symbolically, it makes sense.
Whereas I saw it as a sign of new life for the game, a new era full of great new possibilities for CoH that elevated the player to the level of the real heroes.
  9. Other than screenshotting all my characters I can I'll be playing my main and first character Lightslinger when the lights go out. I really really hope they unlock VIP for everyone so I can get into all my alts for better pics though.

I'd always figured Lightslinger would be hanging out in Atlas Park, but I really hope I'm able to go down fighting. So, new plan; Lightslinger will probably be in PI patrolling the skies when the world ends, seems fitting enough.
  10. For me the legality of an emulator is no longer morally wrong once NCSoft shuts down CoH. By playing a CoH emulator after that, we're not stealing from NCSoft because we couldn't give them money to play CoH if we wanted to.

If NCSoft won't work with the community and shuts the game down an emulator is the only choice for keeping CoH going in some way.

I know we wouldn't have the wonderful staff and dev team we have now, CoH would I assume exist in a perpetual state of i23, maybe i24 maintenance mode and I'm ok with at least that.

CoH should keep going in some way, shape or form and if that's a stagnant emulator, at least its something.

That said, I'm 100% behind Titan's plan and I hope it pans out, I'll help however I can.
  11. Someone on the forums ran the numbers a few years back on how much it would take to buy a majority stake in NCSoft and as I recall it was in the hundreds of millions US dollars, so...better fire up that kickstarter, lol.
  12. I'll most likely be trying out Champions too, someone make sure we've got a CoH Refugee chat channel or something ready to join.

Also, from what I've heard the CO Community has been really kind and supportive of CoH since this announcement, we should return the favor.

    Still an alternative.
Yes but its still the only CoH emulator server project currently going, any other plan will have to start from scratch.

And I DO support the Titan plan 100%, but I also think its important the community work on a backup plan as its a pretty big longshot NCSoft will give us a legal route to do this.

Also, the legality, while iffy, isn't a big deal to me anymore. People playing on a private server will not be taking money away from NCSoft, they chose to shut the game down so we'll build our own version.

Now if the game were still alive and we were flocking to private servers, yeah that would be stealing.
  14. I'm pretty sure starting from scratch would be a given with a project like this, but keeping CoH going in any capacity would be worth it.
  15. So...if anyone lives near one of our server farms...

    Just sayin'!

Go to the forums and read about their progress in creating a player run server for CoH, THIS IS COH'S BEST CHANCE.

Coders are needed quickly as there is work to be done that can't be done once the servers are down.
  17. Reporting this; while Tony works with NCSoft if you'd like to contribute in a backup plan, read this:

This right here is the ONLY hope of CoH staying online in some capacity.
  23. I have to agree with the above warning, if we put all our eggs in the basket of hoping NCSoft will nicely let us keep this going, it's over. Need lots of people helping that guy code so we can get a private server up ASAP.
  24. I asked this as well, and while I hope TonyV can work with NCSoft to legally do this, I doubt they'll allow it. I really hope someone out there can pull a server together before it's too late, I know I'd pay in some way to help crowd fund a community run server.
  25. I support this wholeheartedly as well and you'll have a donation from me if you can keep even just one server up.

Let's face it, best case scenario is you get to keep the lights on, even still a LOT of the population will be moving on. One server will most likely be all we need. As long as its well populated and active, well that'll be fine for me.
