Not excited for vanity pets. Particularly not excited about a chimera being called a liger, no matter what the reference is from. (Nope, never saw that movie, but thanks to those who mentioned it. It's good to know why it was presented that way at least.)

That being said, I am excited to see that they bundled the wild cats together. I hope that they will do this more in the future. The special travel powers are some that I could see benefiting from such bundling.

Have you seen any of those nature shows? Lions are lazy gits that make the lionesses do most of the work ... which works perfectly for a non-combat pet actually.

+1 for the movie reference. It's always nice to see that the devs look outside of their box towards other works, like an insight into what they do. I've not seen Napoleon Dynamite myself, but I was told about that scene of it by a relative after they saw the movie.

I'll be grabbing the bundle. I quite like that the vanity pet Lion would be non-combat compared to the Lionesses, it mimics real life nicely, which provides a great contrast to the movie reference.

One side uses mind police and will "disappear" you and the other uses poison gas and bombs on civilians. Hamidon? He'll just have a tree eat you. Much simpler. If we're all going to be oppressed and/or killed by someone, it might as well be the walking trees. At least they don't speak in annoying code or doublespeak. They just devour you.

I get why people say things like this... But... Beyond the fact that a Beast Master pet is being trained to be an attack-beast (which a male lion would be far more capable, and imposing, as)... How would the two of you like to spend some time with a male lion and see how non-combative they can be?
And, you know... if lionesses were the better fighters, they'd be the ones sittin' pretty while the males were out hunting.

In all seriousness, I do understand why people say this, when discussing the choice for Beast Master pets (and I'm not making a complaint about the choice), but I wish people would keep in mind the above points and not take the stance that it is the right answer to only have lionesses.

The natural order of things is not the point. Lionesses and wolves and dire wolves following a master to fight their foes is not a part of the natural order of how lions go about their daily lives in Africa.
And not all male lions are in the great position that people bring up.

Yet another furry item. C'mon, don't you think that's enough vanity pets for awhile? Where is the staff set or the sci-fi pack? NPCs have had staff now since the dark astoria update so whats the hold up there?

So when a set gets exposed ahead of time (thanks, pigg divers!) and ruins all the potential marketing and hype that might have gone in to it, you'll have to learn to understand why it does't get rushed to Live
What?

Judging from people's reactions on beta and the general desire to have staff fighting expressed in this thread, I find it hard to say that any of the hype has been lost. The leaked video showed some very nice animations and interesting powers which, if anything, has bolstered the desire for it. Withholding information (as they did with Dark Control's tier 9) doesn't generate a desire to play the set; it produces short term buzz which dissipates after the reveal and frustration as evidenced in this thread. Ultimately, any powerset the produce will stand on effort and production values behind it and not silly marketing gimmicks.

Really, really, NOT sure if serious... a Liger pet...? Wow, guess the joke is really on us now, huh.

For me, this is the moment CoH manages to jump the shark and nuke the fridge all in one fell swoop - to go from pretty respectable, to utterly ridiculous.

EDIT: Forget having a CoH wish list in my sig'... this liger just ate up a whole lot of my respect for the game, and when it's available to me again in 12 to 24 hours, I won't be wantin' it back. So no real point in asking for anything from PS if this is what they feel is appropriate for this game.

EDIT2: You know, forget I said anything. Not like it really matters if Ligers are somehow not a waste of time and manpower.

Even against certain death, it matters not how or if we fight, only that we do.

Most amusing complement I've ever been paid on an outfit, from @Ukase regarding my Blue Eyed She-Devil Anson Maddocs "Fallen Angel" homage:
"She gives my ex-wife a run for the money."

Lets not forget, this is the internet and everyone is always right :P. Also, if you disagree they will troll you.

Seriously though, interesting releases. Since I'm playing COH as a hobby in addittion to other stuff I still have plenty of playing around to do with beasties. I also have many other characters I'm fond of. If I played like I used to I'd be kinda waiting for staff fighting.

That being said I really really really really want staff fighting. But I'm not going to throw a tantrum about it or incessantly whine about it in emo fashion. I'll go about my life, play COH when I feel like it, play other games when I feel like it, draw, sing, watch anime, etc, etc, etc. I'll have fun. It's no big deal, my life does not revolve around one game or even one thing.

When it releases I'll play it relentlessly for at least a week though . For that week I will eat, sleep, breathe, and possibly poop COH. I've been waiting on Staff Melee since I joined 5+ years ago :P

Let's see. . . .

In the last 8 months we've gotten the following:
  • beam rifle
  • time manipulation
  • street justice
  • dark assault
  • titan weapons
  • darkness control / darkness affinity

    and, oh yeah
  • beast mastery

That's practically one a month. And you're complaining the devs are rolling them out too slowly? When did we ever get that many powersets that quickly?

And, for the record, in the past the devs may have told us what features would be in an upcoming issue but they never told us when said issue was being released. It was just "soon."

They told us issue release dates once and now you want that set in stone for everything. Demanding much?

The mythical creature you're looking for is a Manticore.

Manticore: Body of a lion, variable head (human, cat, mix between the two) tail of a scorpion, and typically large bat-like wings.

Chimera: Body and head of a lion, second head of a goat, tail of a serpent.

And despite all the rage over the continued use of the four-legged rig, I must remind you all: we will most likely be receiving the Panther Stealth travel power some time in the coming weeks.

Yeah, and everybody knows it's against the law in The Big Book of Gaming Laws and Regulations to release another one...

Put me in the group of customers that is annoyed at how much they've strung out releasing staff fighting, so we can have yet another useless, overpriced vanity pet.

Now I'll wait for people to complain about me complaining, and it will happen because I bought clown summoning on April 1st, and I just activated summon ironic clown...

And you've taken what I was saying out of context. He was saying that since he didn't like it, it didn't count. Thats not quite the way it works. I am not saying that I agree with not releasing multiple sets at once, I don't really stand on either side of that fence, but just because you personally don't find use in some set does not negate the fact that a power set was in fact just introduced to the market, with another one following most likely less then a month later. That is a good rate of release when you think about it.

-An actual motorcycle-style helmet
-A redesigned trench coat
-Travel-power activated costume pieces (like a Rocket Boots variation with boosters in different locations, with a different colored exhaust).

Hell, release a generic one-off jet pack that activates when a Flight power is activated, price it reasonably, and I guarantee it will sell.
This, apparently, can't be repeated often enough. Jetpacks before Pilgrim Hats, please. Make the items everyone expects before you make the items nobody wants.

And you seriously spent the time and money to make an item that's an in-joke reference marketed only to those who both saw and liked a particular comedy from eight years ago? A comedy that has nothing to do with superheroes, even? You could have made any of the pets that actually appear in superhero comic books -- as if, for instance, a version of Shadowcat's dragon wouldn't be an insanely popular item -- and you went with this?

I would love for CoH to be around forever, but you routinely make the most bewildering marketing choices possible. Please stop pursuing any and all items that don't fit the genre of the game you're selling. Thank you.

How does it not fit the genre of game? Heroes and villains alike wear all sorts of things from those items mentioned to much much more. You forgot that Ghost Rider wore motorcycle gear... the villain in Leprechaun, I can continue if you wish... Or did I miss something?

EDIT: Ah Nevermind I see you were talking to the devs, not the poster Bravo!

EDIT 2: To add to the list of things on demand those Outfits of the Sybils in Cim, Scirocco's waist piece for males, longer hair for males, some other accessories from mirror spirit, better trenchcoats, etc...

Strictly opinion here, I am certainly not a fan of this version of a Liger and where it came from...
That just gets an Oh well from me.

Now... something like Bubastis would have been cool (although, likely less manageable legally, heh).

I just think it's amusing that this week it's a bitchfest about where it is, next week will be a bitchfest about all the problems once it hits live, like why it still doesn't sound right or why staff model X wasn't made.

Staff is not out yet. Get over it. Or as my local saying goes 'take a spoonful of cement and toughen up'

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Review of "Jungle Pets 1" purchase (Lion & Liger vanity pets)

Likes:
- Expressive ears
- Idle animations
- Full-body breathing
- Liger's exit animation swirls

Dislikes:
- Hair not attached
- Mane is sparse
- Black teeth makes it look like someone forgot to add in the texture there

*** At their best angle, the hair still doesn't make a convincing mane and is not attached properly. From the back the poor beasts' manes look mostly bald. (Click picture for full image.)

Request/Recommendation: Please 1) attach the hair, and 2) re-color the head and shoulders between the mane to be the same shades as the mane so the color are blending instead of balding.

Overall I'm pretty happy with my newest vanity pets except for the heartache for my poor, almost-bald kitties.

The leaked video is what got me so hyped to begin with. This one set was something I've wanted since 2005 and that video looked amazing!
Then when it came to Beta and everyone was going gaga over it, my excitement reached a new level, so many cool concepts started coming to mind. I can wait patiently, no worries.
4 months later...

I now find myself, with each passing week, growing less and less interested in it for a myriad of reasons.
Most notably, holding out for it has me not wanting to play anything else atm, as I'd just end up abandoning them when it hits.

At this point the hype is turning into resentment. Though it may be of my own doing, and the earlier than normal leak, it doesn't change the fact that, if Staff fighting isn't released this month I doubt I'll bother for quite some time. Just out of general bad sentiment.
I can hold out for another 2 or 3 weeks, only playing my 50, at that point though I'll end up taking a break or rolling a new alt. If I end up making a new alt...
It'll be months, literal months, before I even think about making a Staff toon.

I'm not angry, this is a game afterall, just explaining my perception on the issue. The excitement I've had brewing for months is starting to turn toxic, even though I'm smart enough to understand the reasons for holding it back, it doesn't lessen the impact.

No, I will not give you a specific date.

Staff is currently slated for April. That's about as specific as I can be.
Looks like it is soon, and not just Soon(TM).
