Fair enough on the insultation, and for that I do apologize. However one must keep things relative to have any basis for judgement. Fact is since they took over the current Devs have been delivering what we have been asking for since...well...beta. As quick as they can and in deference with the community.

Street Justice, Stalker changes, gravity changes, intangibility changes, buff changes, mastermind fixes, a new mastermind set, Shield Defense, Beam Rifles, Darkness Control, Powerset Proliferation, end game content, new zones, good stories, stories in the same zones, additional travel power pool options, teaming improvements, etc. I mean these guys have really been kicking butt and putting rubber on pavement. I'm sure there is several important ones I've missed.

Yet still people are only concerned about X or Y shiny that THEY WANT RIGHT NOW. The good is quickly forgotten. Really people are not being properly appreciative. Ya know what would happen if they dumped EVERYTHING they had right now in our lap at once. In 2 months people would gripe they have done nothing new.

They are balancing many things and trying to keep a steady release of content.

The real point is that the only reason people think they have to gripe is they lack perspective and objectivity. Everyone matters, not just each individual person and they have been doing a dang fine job of trying to release what people want and spreading the love around. Melee has gotten plenty of love lately, they did some other stuff instead of catering ONLY to melee.

You just compared deadly diseases to not getting a powerset a couple months faster. I don't even know how that is supposed to be a credit to your argument. It is not a valid comparison, nor is the same concept.

You wanna know why and cannot figure it out yourself? Go ask a person with cancer or another deadly disease. I'm sure they could give you a laundry list. I'm sure they'd start at the temporary and trivial inconvenience vs permanent death and go from there.

I can laugh at cancer jokes because they at least derive some humor from an otherwise horrible situation. But wrongly and poorly using it for your own trivial purposes is beyond wrong and insulting. It demonstrates exactly how much perspective you lack on that.

I can understand the point your TRYING to make, though I disagree with it. But this is the wrong way to get there (in fact it's horribly flawed logic that DOESN'T get there) and does much to damage your credibility and little to gain it. Please do not make a comparison of this type again. Shock value =/= more validity.

Yeah, that's going to induce a lot of rage.

I admit, I raged quite a bit at it. At the end of the day, there's nothing else I (or anyone else) can do but wait. Point is, I wouldn't blame the people raging over not getting Staff Fighting. At least, not too much...
I'm not surprised. Beast Mastery is a much more complicated set and the amount of time and work that has gone into it likely far eclipses that of staff fighting as well as tests the waters of the new rig and opens the door for A LOT that people have been asking for.

It's got bugs, but it's fun to play IMO. It's a new MM set and MM's have sat by and watched as everyone else got set after set after set. The bugs will be ironed out, just like other bugs in the game are eventually ironed out even though some take longer than others. Even though some were released live.

My first 50 was a TA/A Defender shortly after release despite having played as long as I have. I played MM's at release and was part of the very first villain taking of Pinnacle Siren's Call along with Flaming Roar and Jin-Roh (something close to that). I was on a Robots/Traps MM named Cygon. I have a fair idea of what it's like to have your set or other things released with need for tweaking.

People prioritize the wrong things, lose perspective, lose objectivity, and don't keep their judgements relevant with the games around them. We have it pretty good here and this game has out survived and out thrived some very tough competition for good reasons.

Bugs happen. But a lot of bugs wouldn't even bother people if they didn't specifically know about it. Perspective and mentality means more to enjoyment and happiness than all the perfect numbers and glitch-less game-play in the world ever will.

There is a reason while I'm still happily playing and your aggravated at minor stuff .

It's kinda been a long time... when can I purchase that like you said I could? Because all the other stuff you've asked me to purchase in the interim is pretty lame. Why all that other stuff, anyway, when I can't see any reason not to sell the thing you showed me?"

I mean, most people on the boards tend more toward expressing that with "this is a slap in the face"-style hyperbole, but the sentiment is the same, I think.
    Whamburger and french cries?

Waiting a little extra longer for a powerset being a complaint is weak. Try following an MMORPG from alpha stage, beta testing it and seeing that it's good and looks to be shaping up well, having it get near release, then going horribly horribly wrong and tanking because they suddenly catered to the new influx of players. Or one that's shaping up well but gets released half finished. Or horrible horrible imbalances between classes. Or major numbers imbalances in open PVP Etc.

Your complaint of a feature that's taking longer than you'd like but they are working on an will be done really soon (By End of April is the word atm) is about a 2 out of 10 on the scale of complaint worthy.

Also, the stuff you've been asked to purchase in the meantime being lame is highly subjective, assumes your not subbed and earning points, and ignores all the awesome freebies we have been given.

Really, if you want to, you can make almost anything SOUND like a convincing case or argument. But it doesn't change what it is. Which is in this case is people being waaayyy spoiled. News flash. This is a good MMORPG that's working hard to consistently add what people want as well as random extras. They are trying not to overload any portion of their playerbase so as not to neglect others. We are freekin lucky here. There are many games I'd have killed to see this sort of content/commitment in.

Ya, melee got alot of love lately and is dominant in game atm. Let the other people, especially masterminds, have their candy. They went from good, to no new power sets while everyone else got them, to end game content that destroys their pets. They've also been waiting longer than you. Chill your jets.

It's that, as far as anybody can tell, Staff Fighting has been ready -- or as ready as it's going to get, anyway -- since sometime in January, and Paragon just... keeps... sitting on it. And we're seeing a particular upswing in rage about that now because:
    • Issue 22 has come and gone, but Issue 23 is a long way off and information on it is still pretty sparse. The next "big thing" to look to on the horizon is Staff Fighting.
    • For the past month, we've had a pretty good idea what's coming every Tuesday thanks to War Witch's letter. With March now over, we're all once again left with no clue what's coming each week, so people are working themselves up into an anticipatory frenzy: "It could be Staff Fighting, I hope it's Staff Fighting, I want Staff Fighting so bad!" And when they log in only to discover yet another useless, overpriced vanity pet nobody asked for instead of the useful, presumably-reasonably-priced powerset lots of people have been asking for, it's a pretty huge letdown. This isn't kids refusing to wait until Christmas morning to open their presents, it's kids opening each present hoping it's the Xbox they know for a fact is under the tree somewhere, only to find yet another package of socks or underwear. Except in this case, they can't just tear into another present right away, they have to wait a whole week for the next one.
    • With the Beta server now closed and holding an Issue-23 build, obviously any testing to be done on Staff is over. Which, again, leads people to believe, not unreasonably I think, that it's ready for release... and if it's ready, then again they all ask, why can't we have it yet? Maybe there's a perfectly valid reason we can't, but does being told "not now, you'll spoil your dinner" make waiting for the cookies you've been watching your mother bake all day any easier? They're baked. They've cooled. Does Mom really expect the kids not to ask for one?
Let me shorten that down into bite sized but extremely accurate terminology.

    ENTITLEMENT.

    Carry on.

  4. Lets not forget, this is the internet and everyone is always right :P. Also, if you disagree they will troll you.

Seriously though, interesting releases. Since I'm playing COH as a hobby in addittion to other stuff I still have plenty of playing around to do with beasties. I also have many other characters I'm fond of. If I played like I used to I'd be kinda waiting for staff fighting.

That being said I really really really really want staff fighting. But I'm not going to throw a tantrum about it or incessantly whine about it in emo fashion. I'll go about my life, play COH when I feel like it, play other games when I feel like it, draw, sing, watch anime, etc, etc, etc. I'll have fun. It's no big deal, my life does not revolve around one game or even one thing.

When it releases I'll play it relentlessly for at least a week though . For that week I will eat, sleep, breathe, and possibly poop COH. I've been waiting on Staff Melee since I joined 5+ years ago :P
  5. On a non-incarnate team blasters feel like they are worth something still. They do good damage (when not dead lol) and clear spawns with copious AOE damage. Tier 9 nukes flatten spawns occasionally and when used well make their presence known.

Start adding in incarnates with judgement nukes. After a few incarnates the blasters AOE damage advantage almost disappears because everything dies so quick it doesn't help much anymore. I actually had 6 incarnates on a team before using the judgements and I actually missed the blaster using their crashing nuke most times because enemies were being wiped out so fast by judgements anyways.
  6. Here's the truth about mercs.

They are the weakest pet primary, but still kick booty. They bring reliable steady and moderate to heavy damage to the table while debuffing the defense of the poor target into the ground. They have access to very good CC abilities and very good burst dmg with rocket launcher. They then proceed to use all of these on the last half dead minion in a spawn because OMG IT RECHARGED AND I CAN USE IT!!

That being said, if players were given the ability to direct their pets long cooldown attacks mercs would be one of the strongest, if indeed not the hands down strongest, MM set.

As a mercs player you learn to finangle it. You know that if its up they will lead the fight with uber abilities most likely. You also know if you need those abilities back right now, you can resummon and rebuff and they will be fresh recharges. That can matter when teamed or about to take on a tough spawn. Getting them to use it reliably when you want is a crap shoot though. Oh and P.S. that healer minion isn't that great but if your a secondary without heals AND/OR when he heals you at the right times you will LOVE HIM. But bare minimum you should have at least aid other yourself if your a buff/debuffer MM without heals. He's helpful for maintenance healing but you cannot rely on him to keep people alive mid combat.
  7. Gotta agree with the crowd here, just seems like a shameless attempt to make money and is not worth the value at all. Again, might be different if these were permanent or memorized recipes as people have stated.

Consumable version though? Keep making stuff like this and you WILL drive some people away. After all CO isn't a bad game.

Without them, a genre doesn't really exist; instead it is just a mish-mash of every idea any human ever had.

The superhero genre is broad enough in its scope--containing elements of fantasy and science fiction--that I do not feel creatively limited by conforming to the conventions that have applied to the majority of superhero stories (and characters) past and present. My personal idea of the kind of superheroes I want to see in Paragon City are typified by the classic Avengers. A little tech, a little magic, a little super science, etc. Nobody in the classic Avengers line-up, not even Thor (except perhaps in the most extreme modern renditions) looks like a refugee from World of Warcraft, whereas given many of the new costume options, one could easily be forgiven for thinking a wormhole had suddenly opened up and armies of toons from Asteroth had started pouring forth into Atlas Park instead of Rikti soldiers. I try to just pretend those toons simply aren't there.
I don't play them to do those things either. I go outside of the normal sometimes, other times I quite enjoy playing something stereotypical. I enjoy references and recreating things at times myself. I just don't limit myself to only that. All I'm saying is your idea of a concept has additional layers of limitations on it. Instead of asking yourself how you can work a concept you seem to be asking yourself how you can disqualify a concept .

That's all good, it's your sub after all and it's what you find fun .

I also can't share your sentiments on things looking like WOW. I'm not very fond of WOW at all either. I think you could make characters that look like they came from WOW for sure, but I you could also create characters that look like they came from most universes or IP's. They've done a good job making a horrendous variety of costumes and are making more. They need to finish filling a few things out, but I don't see a set theme in general.

Also, WOW is just a convenient example/whipping boy. Almost as a rule WOW looks like everything else as it basically copied it's entire game from other sources. Granted most titles do this but some do it more shamelessly than others. To think they started because they were kicked off of a Warhammer game project and so created a copycat universe .

Maybe if this was the Back to the Future MMO...
Well to be honest if you tie yourself only to what you see in the comic books as allowable your doing limiting yourself horridly. Reasons why comic books likely shy away from it:

    1. Flight powers are seen as cooler.
    2. A rocket board type power has logical limits
    3. Characters would be pretty vulnerable on the board and slow off of it.
    4. The board could easily be exploited as a weakness (see goblin :P)

Beyond that, your limiting your own creativity by that of mass media meant to make money? Beyond that your limiting your creativity by your limited scope of knowledge of that mass media. I mean seriously the list of superheros and super villains alone is immense, much less those that wouldn't fall into those categorizations. Try checking out how many alternate earths exist for each of the big two sometime lol. Perhaps past all that you get into independent heros/villains created by folks outside of "the big guys".

I mean don't get me wrong, there are likely many things you could tell me as reasons I would gladly accept, but this one just seems like a poor reason to me. Especially since games like this are our opportunity to break out of the genre mold and do stuff that the comics won't do because they are busy trying to create controversy, drama, and most of all profit.

I mean if you wanted to you could make a Supervillain named "Marshmellow Peep" and create a backstory that makes his naming and evilness make sense. Stereotypical Insanity villain. He had a tragic moment he is unable to forget and has driven him quite mad, in his madness he latched onto a specific part of that tragic event that to him represents the beginning or cause of it and emblazons himself with the ill-fated moniker. Not being taken seriously he gets angry and goes out of his way to be extra cruel and FORCE people take him seriously.

Honestly that story right there is alot more believable than alot of the stuff that comes out of comics. You could make him a fire armor character to make him a flaming marshmellow peep and add fire to part of the tragic event for extra humor.
Then again all of this is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

Ninja/Beast however is a great way to get about. Eventually I do pick a travel power at around level 30, but it's nice not having the pressure of taking it at 14 any more.
I totally agree on the color scheme possibly being a deal breaker. The bright red and white certainly does not fit all heros/villains/looks.

I played the PVP from the beginning. I was part of the first Siren's Call Victory for the villain side on Pinnacle as Cygon a Bots/Traps MM. I13 hurt, but alot of underdog builds (and im not talking MM, they were a whole nother story lol) simply could not compete at all even before I13.

I played a variety of alts from both sides and once people started figuring out what worked almost all of them became invalid in PVP. I've played a fair amount of MMORPG PVP and COH has always been one of the worst balanced and least fun imo. Though in fairness champions online prolly beats it in that respect since it has a pretty good semblance of balance and then suddenly various builds are incredibly stronger than everything else. I'll say that the zombie apocalypse in that game was actually really really fun until the totally cheap builds just became commonplace.

I don't blame the devs. The way the mechanics are set up makes meaningful and balanced PVP nearly impossible while maintaining the feeling of the game.

Well it's not so much that, but when you have to choose very specific things to even reliably attempt to successfully PVP it automatically cuts out a majority of the population. It also cuts out alot of strategy and alot of variety as well as alot of TYPES of players and PVPers.

For instance me, I'm a hardcore underdog PVP person. Without even knowing I'm doing it I gravitate towards weakers sides/classes and play them. But then, I am one of those nutjobs who usually only picks powers to fit a strong concept rather than for maximum game effectiveness. The idea of not taking a travel power is unfathomable for me (as in, I can't fathom ever doing that with my own toons), so much so that I have always felt that all characters should have access to a basic travel power at level 1, just like Kheldians.
Well as far as advantages vs disadvantages flight also has the potential to shut off if hit with -fly or if you detoggle from endurance zeroing. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages.

Rocket board in all honesty fits ALL character concepts except one's where your hero/villain completely rejects all technology for some reason (which is a valid story based theme) OR a very small % where powers themselves would conflict with the ability to ride the board (and couldn't be creatively thought around). I don't care where you get your powers from you can learn to use a rocket board same as you can learn to drive a car. Very very very few power concepts will prevent this.

I do however agree that travel powers should be available at level 1. I also feel they should be built in as an inherent choice rather than a power choice.

I too build alot of concept characters. While I'll stay true to concept 90% of the time I concede the the occasional practicality of getting a drink while traveling to a mission however, or reaching somewhere quickly and putting my teams time ahead of my personal concept in rare situations.

. Well thing is it's one of those things that awesome when it's beneficial and crappy when it's not. When you are capable of beating someone through sheer skill even though they have the advantage but you simply can't stop them from running away no matter what CC you use, it's just tear inducing.

I got my first taste of this flawed PVP design in EQ II playing a Guardian. I could beat alot of people through careful play but I could rarely kill anyone because there was never any way to truly stop people from running in that game. I could snare them, knock them down, snare them again, etc. They would use one of various speed boosts and run away and I could either match them and cancel combat and they would regen back up, or I could chase them futiley plinking hem with arrows that would not outrun their healing.

COH reminds me of that only without the ability to even pretend to harass them as they escape. It's 1...2...3.. oh their travel power is active again and they are goooooonnnnneeeee!!!.
  14. I used to be one of those nuts who moved around with only swift/sprint/hurdle. Didn't even multi-slot them. I found that after learning the zones a bit I could quite easily keep up with a team in all but the harshest situations (like runs across IP or maybe TWO zones). I've heard people say TV gave them issues but honestly you can manage just fine with swift/sprint/hurdle there if you know where to go. But then again my computer has always loaded reasonably fast. If I was a slow loader I'd need to compensate for that.

These days? Geez, your made in the shade. Beast Run and Ninja Run (same power different animation) combined with sprint and now inherent fitness give you all the mobility you'll ever need except in a very few situations.

You worried about that 2% of situations or just plain lazy? Go and grab a jetpack or buy the rocket board. Rocket Board itself can replace all travel powers, but ninja run/beast run can actually save your butt in stacked slow situations sometimes.

  16. How about a compromise?

Instead of built in voice chat, have a game friendly interface that will launch and connect a group on 3rd party voice chat. IE it'll choose a random name or a name you specify and then group you all on "ventrillo" for example. Even launching the program for you if necessary. Though you of course have the option to opt out of this.

In a day and age when you can order pizza from inside video games I don't think that's too far fetched and it solves the problem of built in client overhead.

It's like buying a refrigerator to get the big cardboard box it comes in. Why not just play a PvP game without an attached PvE game, especially one that gets in the way of the game you want?
As someone who likes both PVE and PVP I can answer that. Because particular games hae mechanics you like and really want to see PVP for. Also because almost every PVP game these days tries to tack on PVE. Even old school DAOC had this issue and it's part of what killed that game (TOA expansion specifically). Everyone wants a little slice of the WOW market and even token PVE gives a big time sink.

You want to see a perfect example of how a good PVP game gets ruined because of those things? Look at WAR.

You want a perfect example of a game with a very good setup for it that ruined PVP (and lost my sub because of it), check out Rift. Game started out with potential and then both PVP and PVE went "total WOW style" with the need to raid and/or grind and/or play imbalanced classes to be competitive. I see COH as a different beast because travel powers pretty much doomed PVP from the start IMO.

That said, I have nothing against this idea. If they came up with some new animations for Claws that I liked, I would probably use them on my main.
On the other hand we've seen a fairly consistent habit lately of changes that were decried by the forum population, implemented in game and appreciated by most to all. I myself was even one of these to a lesser extent on costume changing in trainers. Originally I was far against it, however after playing around with it for a good bit and giving it an honest try I found it was just plain convenient to be able to tweak newly rolled characters or newly gained powers on the spot.

I've seen questionable Ideas rightfully called down, but I've also seen many good ideas dealt flaming vitriol as a welcome to their inception on the forums. Many time Ideas that would in reality negatively impact nobody.

There is a core group on these forums that almost seems to take pleasure in attempting to roast any new idea in flames and then when implemented deny ever "REALLY" being against it. Reality is many times it's not even criticism that can be used helpfully but instead just an impediment and/or negative atmosphere to good ideas. I've suggested a few things but I'm not even including my own ideas in this judgement.

Ya, definitely need some with up front damage. But as fire blast shows that doesn't mean it can't still have a DOT attached to it for flavor :P.

Poison certainly seems to scream AOE, Acid seems to be more single target, but honestly the two could most likely be interchangeable. They could design a single set that would fit the theme for both and either single target or AOE focusing (or mixed) would work well.
  20. I think that they should make a poison and/or acid blast set. Based on doing a bit more damage over time at the cost of a little damage up front. Possibly some weak control/debuff elements to it as well.

I know it runs a little counter to "omg blaster kill everything ASAP", but I believe it would see enough benefit in tougher situations and thematics/coolness to be worth it .

I'd build a set myself, but I'm more of a feedback guy than a designer when it's in my spare time . (Lets not even go how hog wild I'd go on ideas if I was a designer lol).

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions, brave person who wants the throw a power set plan up there?

If you can just make a phone call to do anything you can possibly do in the game, you might as well just take the next step and make the entire game a series of missions, all accessed by a single door in a white room.

The need to travel to a trainer is something that will get people exploring the game world. When I first started the game I found all kinds of cool stuff while I was figuring out how to reach the trainer from my randomly located door mission.

Removing the need to do that would make the game worse in my opinion. If new players never have to find their way to a trainer from random locations, they will never see even half of the cool out-of-the-way stuff that makes the game feel like it could be a real place.

I really don't want to see one more reason to actually interact with eth city zones removed.
Trainers are not your issue. Your issue is that they need to make running missions worth it and make them keep you in the same zone instead of sending you 3 zones away every other mission. A good start would be awarding the ARC completion merits to EVERYONE on the team and making 90% of the missions in zone or get in a truck/copter/tp me there. Heck why not tie the mission teleporter tech in? That way maybe you get a free ride to a distant zone's mission, but you have to run back,

Then they could make sure every zone is well supported mission wise. That way you could traverse the zones during missions but not have to play city tag.

Stop thinking in YES OMG YES and NO OMG NO people. There are many routes in between that could possibly satisfy everyone. I know it hurts but use your brain .
  22. I apologize on behalf of some of our more uncouth forum residents who are somewhat overbearing in their opinions and judgements. Also, while I agree that the usage of Fanboy deserves a slap and a return to reality and logic vs negative remarks, at the same time using that comment does not invalidate your opinions or make you suddenly deserve everything your frustrated it.

Respect others even if they don't respect you otherwise you just add to the problem. Stick to points and agree or disagree as much as possible with logic and solid things/opinions you can stand behind. Believe me I know it can be hard with some of the more opinionated and slightly arrogant posters.

That being said, this is a pretty universally agreed upon issue and the devs are looking into it. Had that been said initially instead of certain posters trolling this would have been an easy answer. The rest could have been respectfully presented as workarounds till things got fixed.
  23. 100% signed.

How i GLOW when i build up I'll never know.
  24. Honestly this is fair enough, many non-combat types have buffs or debuffs but no heals. Many combat types could still use the extra help. If your 100% viable without the NPC then this doesn't make much of a difference for you.

Nothing quite like taking on a mission as a defender who has no heals yet and watching the NPC slowly die. Same story if your a scrapper pounding through a mission with a nice bit of assistance till he keels over.

If your really worried about risk vs reward....The Architect system would like a word with you :P.
  25. Considering they essentially gave the entire leadership power pools to VEAT I no longer see any barriers for not using the Leadership pool as a starting point for a natural buff set.

I also do not oppose this one in the slightest and feel that this is, indeed, a neglected option for buff sets considering the powers and tech we already have in game.
