"Here Until The Servers Shut-Down" ...still true for you?

Likely will remain a VIP unless something else comes along that just blows me away (I'm a one paying MMO at a time kind of person).

Of all coming current and coming MMOs, I don't see one that could dethrone COH; although if World of Darkness Online ever sees the light of day, it might have a chance.

When the servers shut down I'm stealing a copy of the server code and playing it on my personal servers until the singularity happens whereupon I'm uploading my consciousness into Paragon City. Then I will continue to play until the heat death of the universe. And then I'll probably take a break from MMOs until the next big bang.

I once said that I'd never leave CoH for anything, but when a period of unemployment forced me to let my sub drop, that kinda got blown out of the water big time.

Once money was no longer an issue, my family wanted me to join them in another game. Couldn't afford subbing full time to two games, so I chose to be with the family. I can't say I regret doing that, even if it meant I left CoX for 3 years.

I missed this game like crazy and since we can afford me playing both now, I'm back and taking a much needed break from my other game until the next huge content patch hits. I'm staying VIP as long as I can afford to do so and enjoying playing once more.

Can't say for sure what the future holds, but I'm having fun for now. I sure do miss all the old friends I had though. Looks like they're all gone. Ironically, quite a few of those people were adamant about being with CoX forever as well, heh. Times change.

I have taken a couple of breaks from COH in the past due to burnout, but always kept up the subscription. Lately I haven't been playing much and so have cancelled the subscription. When I do play I don't generally do the incarnate stuff so I will not be missing out on much, and anything I want to play I can just buy for a short while.

But even though I am not quitting, and not leaving the game it still seems really weird to have cancelled my subscription after 7 years. Honestly if the game hadn't gone free to play I probably would have kept the subscription going for another few years even if I didn't log in.

I am here and only leaving if any of the following happens:

My Death
Shutdown of the servers, in which case my remaining days will be dedicated to forcing Blizzard to go bankrupt.
Flatulence is implemented as a new power set, AND TO ENCOURAGE THE NEW SHINY, ALL OTHER POWER SETS GET NERFED INTO THE GROUND! (I REALLY doubt this would happen unless someone from Blizzard brainwashed the Devs into doing it!)
Or all of CoH's players were put into Blizzard's secret concentration camps. (We KNOW they exist!)

to TO THE END!

Well, I don't know that I've ever really been for the whole, "Here until the servers shut down," even though I've had an active account for a couple weeks shy of the life of the game. I will say that I'm here until the game does something to annoy me into not playing it. So far that has yet to happen and doesn't look like it's going to happen any time in the near future either.

My paradigm for playing has always been to play slower than the developers make new stuff. So long as there are new arcs and TFs out there to explore, I'll be around.

The problem is, after 7 years now, I've just about caught up. I've got another couple of high-level villain arcs left I haven't done, and most of the First Ward arcs to go. The SSAs go a long way towards filling the 'new stuff' void, so I'll likely be here a while longer.

But if I reach a point where I'm playing the new stuff as soon as it comes out, with nothing else new to keep my attention? That'll likely be the sign that it's time to go.

I'm cautiously optimistic that there'll be interesting new things to see and do and keep me re-subbing, but I think I can see the end of the tunnel from here.

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

I will be staying VIP. Despite the SSA & Incarnate storylines not being my cup of tea. My reasons? RP on Virtue and using the MA to help facilitate it. Also PVP, and the current PVP league on Freedom. Player-run events are what's keeping me VIP. (Even if I probably don't need to be in order to do what I want to do.)

That plus I've grown too used to alpha slot!

So what does the future hold for you? VIP or Premium? I can see the appeal of Premium...especially for people that have been here a long time and get so much for free due to the Paragon Rewards programme!
I can guarantee you they'll have to send someone to my house to get me to log out so they can shut the servers down for good.

I let my 2nd acct go Premium obviously, it's just a handy storage account. For my primary though? I'll keep paying Paragon Studios for as long as they make good stuff.

21.5 issues later, it's still good stuff.

When the guy named "Casual_Player" is catching up on your released content, you're doing it wrong.

Okay, so I seized the opportunity to use a meme at the Devs' expense. I am sorry about that, but I am simply hoping that, with the Praetorian storyline wrapping up, we can look forward to some more changes to existing content. That, or solo/small team arcs/options for Incarnate progression.

Interestingly enough, although I am VIP and my account auto renewed, I'm not listed as a VIP on the boards, but I was previously. Go figure...

That is a setting somewhere in your user cp where you can select if you want your VIP status acknowledged.

I give it less then a year and I am sliding into the premium seat...really do not like the "end game" content. Grind, grind, grind...boring....besides I will be graduating soon and rl is alot better than a game.

I will stay premium and pop in once in awhile but the game is really starting to annoy me more than anything....namely because of all the items that Memphis Bill mentioned in another thread that "disappeared".

Not true now, never was true before. I've quit this game a half dozen times over the years.

May I subscribe to your server when the servers shut down, please?

I don't have the money to waste on things I don't really need or aren't really fun. I can justify the subscription fee if I'm being entertained more than I'd be than with a premium account. But this is a video game, not a moral or religious imperative. I don't have to fork over my money if I don't want to. That being said, thus far the additional benefits of VIP status (the signature story arcs and the monthly Paragon points stipend) have been worth it.

It all depends on what is offered between now and when my sub expires.

The game has changed in ways that I am not sure I like. I am not sure I dislike them either. But I am sure that I am not as in love with the gaming experience as I once was.

My sub doesn't expire until March, so I have the luxury of waiting and seeing how things progress.

As far as I know and am able to financially I'll be a VIP til the servers go down or until I get bored of CoH (or, again, financially can't do it).

I'll probably keep playing for as long as the game is available, but it won't be constant. I get bored and go flirt with other MMO's or video games for extended periods of time, and I usually cancel my subscription to things I don't see myself using for awhile. A lot of the time when I do this, I won't come back to whatever game I left. City of Heroes is the exception. It is one of the few MMO's that is truly, constantly innovating. Every time I come back to it I am amazed at how much new stuff there is to explore from the last time I logged on.

So, yeah, I'll probably keep coming back to City of Heroes.

Love the game.

I will keep my subscription current until such time that an MMO that can offer me everything this one does appears.

Since in 7 years none have and none on the horizon look to be able to from what I have seen, here I will be.

I have 4 friends who will remain for all the same reasons.

We think of new characters and play new combos all the time, even after years of playing.

Fickle gamers who love to nerd rage will come and go, they always have and always will.

Those of us that look for a certain type and style of game will continue to enjoy this one.

Personally, I spend almost as much time in the City as I do at work, and I put in over 40 hours at work every week.

A year ago I'd have said I'll be here until shut down day, but now I'm not so sure.

The game has radically changed in the last 12 months.

Normally I take game updates as they come and enjoy them, but these days when I'm playing I have the unsettling feeling that this isn't the CoH that used to love playing.

The problem with the Incarnate trial grinds isn't helping either. I just wish those trials had been designed better in the first place.

The Praetorian angle isn't working for me either. I'd much rather have seen an all new enemy faction created - perhaps a true alien invasion force.

I'll probably take a break from the game and see if that helps out, but to be honest I think that sadly my time is just about done here.
