  1. DC's updated look for Power Girl graces their variant cover for Earth Two #1. And it certainly is different. Specifically it is missing an certain aspect to her costume that has been very iconic and very controversial. No doubt some will hail the change and some will decry the change to an iconic costume.
  2. How 'bout...

So it's free under certain conditions.

  5. I hope to retro sci-fi* pack has more than five pieces in it.

    * Does anyone else get a chuckle at how the phrase "retro sci-fi" actually makes sense?

That's been my impression playing the game. Once I go under .5 miles it switches to yards which number in the 800s, which is what you'd expect. 1 mile = 1760 yards, .5 miles = 880 yards.

Nah. I think I'd much rather have a Tomato McGrand.
  7. I want to go to the player summit, but it's in another country/state/city and I can't afford to take off work. FML. #firstworldproblems
  8. Peter Davison's already been back for the "Time Crash" mini-episode. There his appearance of advanced age was explained as a side effect of the temporal accident that had brought him face-to-face with the Tenth Doctor. I also thought he and Tennant had really good chemistry.

Not sure if Eccleston would be willing, as it seems that he didn't leave on the best of terms. With Davies gone, though, and for one special, maybe he could get talked into it. Seems like Tennant would be on board, as would McGann.

Obviously an "all the doctors" special would be impossible to do without CGI and fans might not take to such fakery. But just having several Doctors together would be well received.
  9. Yes, things are known to get a little extra wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey around the Doctor. Speaking of which, what are the chances we'll see a "multiple Doctors" special for the upcoming 50th anniversary?

  11. I don't object to Penny's costume having some sex appeal. But the exposed midriff seems out of place and silly on that particular costume. Most of it looks like it's very durable, form fitting but made of material that can take a beating and provide some protection to the wearer. But then her tummy is just out there, exposed to the elements and whatever else might be dished out in a fight. An exposed midriff would be fine if she were fighting in street clothes. But on a suit that otherwise looks like it's designed to provide some protection, it doesn't make any sense. But then again capes are a staple in superhero wear, so perhaps the "impractical" argument is moot.
  12. We all know the trope of the child who wants to know everything about everything, the child who is constantly asking, "Why?" no matter what answer you give.

Mindy: Hey, mister man! Whacha doin'?
    Man: I'm digging a hole.
    Mindy: Why?
    Man: Because it's my job.
    Mindy: Why?
Man: Because I need the money.
    Mindy: Why?
Man: Because my daughter wants everything Bieber.
    Mindy: Why?
Man: Because girls just like Bieber.
    Mindy: Why?

This game works the same way. The first post will start out with a statement. Each poster after that will pretend the inquisitive child has asked "Why?" and answer her. I'm sure after the first few posts we'll quickly get into strange and entertaining territory. So here goes:

We all love to play City of Heroes.

    (Why?)
  13. A veneer is a very thin layer designed to enhance the look of something. So is a finish.

    ok, back to you...
Silly thought: Copper Girl. It's a play on the name Penny Yin (penny: a copper coin; yin: a concept in Chinese philosophy representing the feminine, among other things). Totally doesn't work with the costume, though.
  15. I could talk about all the options to customize the look of your character, from the classic superhero look to many far out themed ideas (A rusty robot pirate? Sabretooth tiger mage? Blue alien lady in a gleeming metal uniform? Done, done and done.) to the way you can now customize the way your powers look. I could talk about the mountains of content and how after four years of playing there's still stuff I've never done. I could talk about the great creativity outlet we have with the Mission Architect. I could talk about how easy it is to team up with a group of people without having to worrying about differing power levels.

I could talk about all of those things, and certainly all of those are good. But mostly, I'm here to see what hat Zwillinger will wear every Wednesday.

All the post-revival seasons have some b-plot running through them that explodes in the final episode. Moffat seasons, however, have shown more continuity between the seasons, as things unresolved at the end of one season get picked up in the next.
  17. I know there are (or used to be) third party apps that were able to tweet out your progress. "Awesome Guy just reached Level 29 in City of Heroes! #CoH" "Awesome Guy just got the Annoy All Your Twitter Followers badge in City of Heroes! #CoH" They're not nearly as popular as they once were as people figured out it was annoying, especially for people watching the #CoH hashtag for breaking CoH news.

Some separate apps would be nice. A costume designer would be nice. A web-based auction app would be spiffy for those of us that use them extensively. An opt-in site for displaying your characters would be pretty awesome. Of course there's always issues of time management for the dev team, and what potential cool in-game stuff are they taking time to work on to develop these extras.
  18. C'mon guys! Obviously they meant it was a retrospective upon Statesman resting in peace. It was an intentional portmanteau. Obviously.

Short answer: No, that's not true.

Longer answer: I've just gone through comparing the numbers between Series 4 (Tennant's last full season) and Series 6 (the most recent). The BBC numbers are actually quite similar. After the Series 6 premier "The Impossible Astronaut" there were media reports that ratings for that episode were significantly lower, only 6.4 million viewers, making it the lowest rated series openers since the show was relaunched. These numbers were in error. Specifically the media were comparing total numbers from past openers to the episodes overnight numbers, which unlike the total numbers do not take into account viewers who record the episode and watch later. The final numbers for "Astronaut" were 8.86 million, which is very similar to past openers.

Comparing series 4 and 6, you can make your case either way depending on what part of the series. Series 4 is definitely ahead right at the end, but series 6 is very much ahead in the middle episodes. Trying to compare episode to episode may end up comparing apples to oranges. Series 4 ended with a gathering of all the Doctor's recent companions for one grand adventure. But the eighth episode of Series 8, which did significantly better than the eighth episode of series 4, "Silence in the Library", came after a 2 1/2 month layoff and had the attention-grabbing title "Let's Kill Hitler".

All of this beside the fact that this is a blatant argumentum ad populum. Anyone can continue to watch the series and form their own opinions, or not if they are no longer enjoying it. Personally I loved Tennant's almost human, geek chic portrayal, but I also really enjoy Smith's "very old man in a very young body" interpretation as well. And while I thought series 5 dragged a bit at times, series 6 flew by for me and is my favorite to date.

My favorite Doctor? The Doctors have become like my children: I couldn't possibly choose between them.
  21. On Paragon Wiki, Flambeaux is listed under Paragon Heroes (NPC heroes who try to stop player villains during Mayhem Missions), Rogues Gallery (NPCs featured in tip missions who tend to change their alignment between hero and villain over their course) and Shining Stars (hero group from the tutorial missions). It's actually kinda weird for some of us who've been playing since Issue 18, because we saw her eventual descent into villainy before we got to know her as a clueless still-wet-behind-the-ears hero.

Issue 8 hit live servers on Nov 28, 2006. Technically that's closer to five years, but Durakken is closer.
