Before you vote on those Sci-Fi pieces...

...you may want to consider which ones may not fit just a 'sci-fi' concept exclusively, but which ones might look good for other concepts as well, and not necessarily used just all at once. I mean, all the options look cool, but we may not get another set of this stuff for a while.

I'm just sayin'.

(Pick Rocket Pack A~~~~.)

Can't hear you over rings being awesome.

But if you vote for whichever options work with other themes, you end up with a really bland scifi bundle thats trying to be too many themes at once.

I've been waiting forever for a scifi pack

and gosh darn it, its going to be as raygun gothic as it can be.

noooo... vote for rocket pack C!

C!!!

I want a bomb on my back! It would enable so many costume ideas! (granted, I'd probably make it work with other options anyway but it would be a weird looking bomb...)

This brings up an interesting question, Is there any way to add more "rings" for shoulder pieces with this set?

Clicking through those threads, I actually care a lot about this decision, I'm realizing. So I'm going to stare hard at all of the pictures, and then sleep on it, and come back in a day or two and vote.

If in doubt, the rings pieces.

I'd rather have one costume design that is a perfect fit than a half-dozen uses that are close but not quite right. Wouldn't be the first time I bought a costume pack that ended up on a single costume out of 60+ alts.

But if you do that, your vote will have less of an impact.

I hope we get it too, and thankfully most of the piece options are looking towards that theme

Unfortunately the ones that aren't are the ones that are getting the most votes. *checks vote count again* No wait, take that back, rings are back in favor and I'm really looking forward to making a dual pistols with the classic scifi laser guns.

I totally feel you, and agree 100% that Rocket Pack A is the best option possible of the three.

Eh, all three rocket pack designs dont do much for me.

I want a rocket pack with giant fixed buzz-lightyear wings

Do what David suggested in one of the actual voting threads: go with your initial gut-check reaction, because it'll be the most truthful reaction you'll have.

As far as I'm concerned, vote for whatever you want to see and use. If it fits the theme, great. If it doesn't, swell. That's what YOU want to see. That's the point of a player poll, after all.

This, the Rednames did ask people not to post in the poll threads (like that worked...) so that people could make an unbiased choice.

I'm guessing they will anyway, of course; this is the internet. If people cared what other people thought so much, we'd never have flame wars

I did post in one of those threads (oops), but I didn't actually post what I voted for. It was the space suit thread, and I really like parts of all three options. It's too bad we can only have one, because I'd like to mix and match all three of them. (Or maybe they'll do the other ones later?)

I voted A, for the same reasons. Yes, the rings on B are awesome... IF I am making a retro sci-fi spaceman. But for cruising around the city with my modern character that has been surviving off of Raptor Packs purchased via Firebase Zulu, I would very much like a rocket pack that looks more general. (ESPECIALLY if the jets on A fold up when not in flight!)

I'm the guy who said he was going to sleep on it, a few posts up. Well, turns out, I could have gone with David and Oz on this. I just now voted, but in every case, even after much thought, I voted on my initial reaction to begin with. I will say this, though, I never looked at the replies in the voting threads, so there wasn't an opportunity to bias myself.

In that spirit, I'm not going to say what I voted on. Only that, after hearing so many complaints from players in-game (which is the feedback I consider most important) about specifically themed items like the rocket board and flying rug, my only bias was in leaning toward choices that I believed I could, personally at least, apply to a wider range of character types.

Most of the weapon concepts and rocket packs in particular are narrowly themed. Most of them scream only "science fiction B movie," and nothing else. Now, before you call me Captain Obvious for pointing this out in a sci-fi retro pack...I was surprised to see how my choice in space suit and bubble helm reflected the wider audience's choice, too. Well, maybe not so surprised about the space suit - most of us can plainly see what could be applied to the largest number of space-themed characters from multiple genres. But, ah, there's the rub. Now, you see my point.

The wider audience did not agree with my choices for weapons and rocket packs, the wider audience said "YES" to more narrowly themed material...which, consequently, will be used by a more narrow range of character types. I expect those pieces to receive the highest number of complaints in-game for that reason. I was surprised to see the community pass on a modern rocket pack design. However, to be honest, and regardless of what I've said here, the complaints (above) won't be mine.

Why? Well, duh. Because I know there are players who badly want classic retro sci-fi characters, straight out of a B-movie. Sure, people will complain about more narrowly themed items. Sure, the game will always benefit from more widely themed choices. But if there are never any narrowly themed choices thrown in too, some types of players and their characters will suffer for it.

In summary, it seems like there will probably be something for me in this bundle--a guy with lots of comic book genre-based characters--and something for the bundle's namesake audience. That is the definition of "sweet spot". Stuff you can use, stuff I can use. Sounds good.

I agree with this. I don't want to compromise just for the sake of functionality and re-usability -- I want something that looks cool, that looks like it's supposed to look!

I voted for the sleekest pieces. Sci-Fi is science fiction, not 1950's pulp.

I think the "Retro" here indicates a 1950s or earlier Science Fiction sensibility.

The more specifically a costume piece is designed, the more specific your target demographic is going to become.

There have already been several costume packs that I have skipped because I have no interest in their design/theme (Steampunk, Gunslinger, and Carnival of Light come to mind). I've purchased one or two items from a given set (gunslinger pants and sleeves, Steampunk vest) but not the entire thing because the pieces are so specific that I have no use for them. That is not to say that they are poorly designed, in fact my opinion is quite the opposite, I just do not need that specific a look for any character (at least currently).

A jet pack with Jetson-rings is very specific, and while I am sure it would look quite cool, I would have very few characters (none currently existing) on whom I would use it, and therefore would be unlikely to purchase it. I am sure I am not the only one of that opinion, and that ends up being a loss of potential revenue for them.

Again, I'm all for staying true to concept, and I am only referring to the jet pack when I say that a more general design would probably be more desirable across the entire player population.

Exactly, which is why more generic costume pieces should go in as regular updates, and more specific ones should be for pay, as then users can opt out if they don't want them.

Since this is a paid set (right?), then I say bring on the Jetson rings!
