Power Girl's new costume

DC's updated look for Power Girl graces their variant cover for Earth Two #1. And it certainly is different. Specifically it is missing an certain aspect to her costume that has been very iconic and very controversial. No doubt some will hail the change and some will decry the change to an iconic costume.

It is not missing. It is just being covered up.

I'll just add it to the list of New 52 costumes I don't like.

I like it. Her other costume was all like "HEY LOOK AT MY CLEAVAGE!" just to much for my taste and I'm a guy. Where as when it's just a full body leotard and or spandex your eye isn't immediately drawn to that one aspect. Plus I think the new cape is sweet and would love to have that style here in COH.

certainly is...different....really it isnt the first time that PG has not had the "window" to the clevage uniform....this uniform for instance didn't have the "window"....and this...although there is something slightly NSFW about this pic....and I think this one might be along the same lines as one I have already listed....

So...in summary the leotard/cleavage covered uniforms are nothing new....yes the cape is new and it may grow on me if it is allowed to stay....

While lots of artists pushed Power Girl's costume past the point of self-parody - though only Amanda Conner did it with any humor - Wally Wood created an original, memorable design that's a shame to lose temporarily. There's no question that superheroes' classic costumes revert from redesigns as regularly as their wearers come back from the dead.

Well, while I had no problem with her previous costume, I can see how maybe they want to seem less sexist with a little more cover up. But this costume is just ugly. Why not go with a burqa if they want to go that conservative. And that hair?! Is it stuck on channel 70's or something?

Do not want.

I seriously cannot believe that you compared a painted on catsuit with boots and armbands to a burqa.

Just because it does not expose bare skin hardly makes it conservative.

I think it looks alright more or less.
But like most superheroines this new look is still not much of an actual "costume".
She's basically just another nude female inked with a non-flesh colored latex/spandex unitard to "simulate" clothing.

I like it. I would have liked her to be more muscular. Unlike Supergirl, who can get away with looking demure, Power Girl should look powerful, confident and fully in control. She can do that in this costume just as well as any other (maybe better than some). I wonder if George had to rush that piece. He usually has a great eye for detail, but he barely gave her any muscle definition at all.

While I may think that Power Girl lacks her visible strength in that cover art, I like the costume and think it does her justice.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

I've never really understood why any of the Kryptonians would have to have good muscle definition at all. They have superpowers based on solar radiation not sheer human-oriented muscle mass. Frankly I wouldn't really have a problem with Power Girl or even Superman looking as "not-built" as Supergirl does. Sure it might not be as appealing from some kind of abstract Herculean ideal, but I don't need these folks to be ripped/toned to have "believable" super powers.

Kind of 'meh' on the new costume. All I want is something close to the level of fun that I had with the Palmiotti and Conner run of PowerGirl

Lemme know when they're actually going to show off a Power Girl costume.

Don't mind the costumes one way or the other really.

But in terms of her physique and body structure, she seems to have lost a lot of sense of physical presence there. Not just talking about bust size either. Sometimes PG was drawn muscular. Sometimes not so muscular, but still broad-shouldered and impressive. Sometimes, yes, the bustline was the standout feature.

This pic... she's clearly fit and athletic. But the underlying body type just doesn't seem right to me. More suited to a gymnastic / acrobatic / martial arts superheroine maybe, not a powerhouse slugger like I picture PG being. And compared to the Alex Ross PowerWoman from Kingdom Come, she looks downright dainty.

It might be in trying to make the character less "sexist", DC has actually ended up reducing the diversity of female body types in their superheroines.

Edit: a particular problem I have with this cover is seeing her next to Huntress. If you had those two switch costumes and wear the right wigs, not sure you could tell them apart. Did the ladies bond as a superheroing duo over the fact that they were the same height and dress size and could share clothes?

Still love her yellow and white costume more than any of the white with red cape ones.

Pretty cool. I didn't have any particular attachment to the outfit prior.

This. So much this. A problem that kind if irked my sister (and me to some degree) is that when WB brought back Batman the Animated Series, they changed it so all of the women in the show had identical body styles. And that they forgot what pants were. Prior to that, each character had different proportions, and you felt like you were looking at different people, and not palette swapped people.

Nice post.

I think that they should have gone with that 90's yellow and white version. Out of all the ones that covered her up, that was my favorite.

Forget the costume, what's with the hair? She looks like Super-Princess Di.
