"Here Until The Servers Shut-Down" ...still true for you?

This is my first and only MMO. I doubt I will play another one once this one goes dark. My sub has lapsed a few times, mostly because I have grown up over the past 7 years. Marriage and a couple kids change things. The game has always grown with me, and had me hooked ever since I logged on the first time and saw players flying, superspeeding, and jumping all over atlas.

That and elf ears are ridiculous.

And grats Clouded. Being a Dad is the coolest freaking thing I have ever had the pleasure of participating in. Sleep now while you can.

I've been here since launch, and haven't let my sub slip. Tier nine vet and all that.

I've still got about six months left on my year sub. That's how long the devs have to win me over.

I'm not fond of Incarnate raids. The writing of the game has gone seriously downhill since the RWZ do-over. All Praetoria, all the time is idiotic - Praetoria isn't the only world-ending threat established in CoH canon, and there should be parity between Praetorian iTrials and miscellaneous iTrials.

I'm not fond of telling characters that the only way to gain more power is to abandon the small teams that got them to 50 in the first place.

Wow me with new Incarnate content, or I'll do without. I've got the Paragon rewards for everything else. All archetypes, IOs, auction house, the works. I'm going to hoard my points for a while to buy other things - it'll cost me a few to unlock the extra slots on my home server. I might, maybe, buy the First Ward.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game. I met my wife, at least in part, because of this game. I won't leave this game - but they've given me enough stuff to not worry about losing anything of import when I stop subscribing.

Haven't read the entire thread. But to answer the thread title...

Yes. Yes I am.

...uh, pretty much all I got to say 'bout it... although, I think I must say... everything is different, but the same... things are more... *moderner* than before... bigger, and yet smaller... it's computers... Paragon City High School football rules!

Ah, a film reference from my generation...

Not only am I here until the servers shut down, I'm volunteering to give place a final sweep, take out the trash, and switch off the lights before locking the door.

Nope, not that it ever was. Interest waxes and wanes and at the moment we're in a waning phase (mostly because I've a beastly new PC on the way and other things piled up to play on it). Nice to know I can drop back in whenever I like without needing to resubscribe though.

City of Heroes. It's a lousy, lousy habit... and one I can't give up. :3
Bah! "It's easy to quit City of Heroes...I've done it a hundred times" (Mark Twain, kinda).

VIP for life.

To be honest, it was never true for me. After seeing the devs for the first MMO I played engage in a scorched earth philosophy towards its playerbase, in a game I honestly thought I WOULD be around until their servers shut down, I find it hard to apply that statement to any MMO I've played.

As it stands right now, I'm not going anywhere; I haven't been around as long as a fair chunk of vets (having only really arrived around shortly before I-7), but I've been here longer than any other MMO I've done. The devs here haven't had the collective insanity I've seen strike other devs of games converting to a Freemium model, nor are they engaging in the same scorched earth attitude as my first MMO's devs did; sure, there's things that the devs here do that occasionally set my teeth on edge, but nothing on the scale that makes me say "forget it; I'm out".

As long as they keep on in that vein, I'm here.

I was showing VIP and never changed it, all of the sudden it was changed for me. Strange.

I'm the same as this. I've been here since i1 or i2 (I forget which), never played a MMO before, and never will again, and I'll be around on and off as long as this game exists.

Sounds like you were a SWG player... Before the dark times. Before the NGE. It was as if a million toons cried out in terror, and were suddenly nerfed...

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Will likely remain a VIP subscriber for the forseeable future, and still plan to remain one till the servers shut down. After that last mapserver disconnect, I'll probably continue to attempt to log-in for 20-30 minutes, too.... just out of habit.

Ayup. Former Master Ranger here. And it was a lot like that.

But their loss is CoH's gain, I'd say! (Opinions vary as to whether or not CoH gained anything by me being here. )

I left for a few years but im back for good.

I'll be sticking around till they finally pull the plug on this game. Then I'll focus on supporting any movement to get the plug put back in.

Its really hard to remember what it was like not having CoH installed on my computer...

Pretty much this. I thought I'd be around forever but about the time of the no solo Incarnate paths, when the rest of my SG left in disappointment (which I shared), the odds of my doing so went way down. I actually cancelled my renewal last week, but it won't happen until December.

I quoted Shrike because I'm crazy jealous of the artwork of her characters.

Since I showed up on the steps of Atlas two years ago, Paragon City has become a valuable piece of my life. I'm a VIP not only because this the biggest, most interactive comic book universe ever created, but more importantly because of my own substantial creative investment. My roster of characters includes characters I created on paper 25 years ago, and all my characters have their own evolving stories, many of them intertwined, told through role-play, Mission Architect and many other means. I'm not much of a gamer outside City of Heroes, but I've always loved to create fantastic stories, and I've put a lot creative energy into this game. So when I'm playing, I'm not just playing City of Heroes, I'm also playing in a shared universe that is partly of my own creation.

It would be hard to leave all of that behind, but nothing lasts forever. A handful of my characters could still exist without City of Heroes, in some way or another--after all, they existed before City of Heroes. But most of my characters were born on Primal Earth. Their stories are etched into the fabric of that place. Most of them will succumb to whatever fate befalls the City of Heroes universe. But I will be there, watching.

Well my wife and I unexpectedly met via this little fantasy world and we've been happily married for over five years now so in all likelihood 'yes' to OP's proposition.

Now, there you two go reminding me of reasons I simply cannot leave this game. I met my incredibly amazing superhusband here. I discovered a fun hobby supported by the awesome art forum community. And I've made friends here, like SuperOz who posted previously, who have made my life richer (two of whom flew 8000 miles for the wedding--now that's friendship.)

Those are the important things, not the pixels and game stuff. I might be annoyed or dismayed by some of the changes, but I still want to support the place that has given me so much.

Upon reflection, I have to say that yes, I will be here until the lights go out. Thanks for the reminder of the things that really count, guys. (And thanks for the art mention, Dromio!)

Captured some of my reasons perfectly there.

Which server do you play on?

in all honesty the only thing still keeping me here is hero merits and hami twice a week..other then that i can barely get a team to do anything unless its in the morning.

plus batman arkham city is out with a dlc already and uncharted 3 has taken all my time for the last 2 days just with the online play.im only barely begun the single player!

so when theres new content and stuff to play.ill be here as a vip...until then account is currently vip until nov 16th then its already going to prem like the 2nd account until i see some NEW content.and i dont mean silly little packs for the undead that i can get in striga any day of the year!.im talking archtype sets and more incarnate tree openings.

This.

Cosplay Madness!: (#3643) Neutral vs Custom Foes. Heroes at a pop culture convention!

Kiss Hello Goodbye: (#156389) Heroic vs Custom Foes. Film Noir/Hardboiled detective adventure!

There was a time when the OP's question would have made me answer immediately yes. Now it's a matter of 'here until Guild Wars 2.' It shan't stop me playing City of outright, as I'll still dip in to catch up with friends. But it will take up most of my gaming time.

Not planning to stop anything... Will remain subbed untill the servers go down. I noticed already that there is no fun for me in many other mmo's. Tried enough of those.

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

My characters all live in the Virtueverse.

Well, um, except for a diaper-wearing baby troll on Freedom. And a walking, talking mechanical Superadine-producing factory. And a giant mutated sanitation engineer.

Anyone who puts some thought into their game, feel free to add me, @Captain-Electric. For those who are new to RP in City of Heroes or curious, my teams are the easiest place to start. No pretentious jerks, plenty of laughs, more action, less drama, AE authors as talented as the best comic book authors, people you'd probably like to meet!
