"Here Until The Servers Shut-Down" ...still true for you?

Nope. I'll probably be gone for good in December for various reasons (or gone for a few years). Most notably...because I'll be a father.

Ill remain VIP. Although times are tough, I like the game enough to channel 15 per month. If I can't remain VIP it will be because of some health factor, monitary factor, or some emergency which will require funding.

Otherwise, Im in!

I started paying annually for this game about 6 years ago and I'm not due again until next April.
At this point I'll probably keep paying annually as long as they'll let me.

I thought these threads were against the new board rules?

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Congrats!

I've been a father for just over a year now. It has drastically reduced my available gaming time, but I still manage to log on a couple times a week most of the time.

I'll be here for as long as I can manage to play. My interest in CoH comes and goes, and wavers and strengthens. Like Masked Shrike, my interest got a bit wobbly when the Incarnate System came out, but with the news coming out of Beta, I think they're listening more to the playerbase as a whole and I don't believe they'll do small team/solo Incarnate stuff half-heartedly.

I've always made a point of having one primary and one or two secondary games that I play so I don't suffer burnout, and CoH manages to fill that primary role very very well. Six years and going strong. That says a lot to me.

When I said I would be here til the lights went out, I did not think I'd be able to do that for free.

Now that I can... I intend to remain ViP for as long as I can justify it. If for no other reason than to continue supporting a game that has given me nearly a decade of enjoyment. If at some point the perks start to fade and I have other financial concerns, well.... I'll be here til the servers shut-down. Just might be as a Tier9 Premium though.
Quoted for Shakespeare! (QFS?)

But I also agree with the sentiment. If I were at Tier 9, in all honesty, I probably would have dropped down to Premium at this point, at least for the time being. As it is though, I would lose out on far too much by dropping to Premium now, and will remain VIP.

Either way, I still enjoy this game enough to say, "Here until the servers shut down."

@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.

More true now than ever.

Oh yeah.

this is a no brainier for me. I like the game too much (despite being a mac person) not to be/stay a VIP

(though I still prefer Guardian over the VIP server even though I like both)

I don't think I could play this game without IO sets.

I'm still gonna be paying until the devs refuse to take any more of my money. But that's not to say I can't take advantage of Freedom... being able to have a few extra alt accounts that don't drain my coffers can be quite useful.

Been here since COH Beta, and I have no plans to leave.

I've taken breaks from the game (but not breaks from paying for it), and I still have friends here. Perhaps some day, I will leave...

My main account was 3 month recurring and down to one month.
My second accout is one month recurring but I vacillate each month.

I'd really like to see attention given to forgotten issues (bases, PvP, cleaning up IO system, etc.) instead of trials and more trials.
A nice quality of life issue would go a long way with me.

I've been subscribed since about two weeks after launch (don't let the forum date fool you...I usually avoid game forums for obvious reasons; this one's way better than most). Only have one account now, but for much of that time, I had two. Scaled back a couple years ago to immerse myself in another MMO (with a "real" targeting system, not tab- or click-targeting), but CoX turned back into my main game when that one started to spin 'round the bowl. I think my "addict" bona fides are pretty solid!

That said, while I'll never have anything other than a VIP account, I may well be coming to the end of my CoX era. Not because of anti-Incarnate feelings (I don't really care for most of the trials: grindy and horribly RP-unfriendly, but the system has added interesting powers and more). No, it's more a matter of finding the gameplay itself more than a little stale and having the overall "feel" of the game world moving in a direction that's considerably less immersive for me.

The former factor is pretty easily understood: any combat/gameplay system eventually becomes "old hat" for a long-term player. While CoX is still the leader in smoothness of character movement and "kinetic immersion" (the sense of feeling like you're really inside the character, moving in a world subject to plausible Newtonian physics, etc. - CoX is as good as most shooter games in this regard, and better than any other MMO I've tried), the rest of the combat (etc.) system has grown a bit dull for me. Not that it's bad (it isn't), just that I've played it for so long that it's probably time for a change.

The second factor is a bit more complicated. First off, I'm not really much of a comics fan, but the ones I do like tend to be those in which a relatively realistic world is posited, one pretty close to our own. More of a "gritty graphic novel" than a "cartoonish comic." CoX is movinng ever farther from a gameworld in which that approach is nurtured, and more towards an anime-influenced, over-the-top sort of world. I give you the (ridiculous) Titan Weapons powerset as an example. It's getting to be more "Final Fantasy" than "Batman." Again, this isn't a bad thing, as it's the direction the larger group of players seem to desire (and pleasing the majority of your customers is just plain smart). It's just not really something I'm into.

Moreover, while I really like most of the direction(s) that mission building has gone in, I'm not at all happy about the preponderance of tightly timed missions (or in-mission goals). While they can add a bit of much-needed challenge, they're also intensely RP-unfriendly for "RP-on-the-fly" roleplayers like me. If you stop to type out even a few fleeting bits of character conversation, you're falling behind and harming the team's chances. Timers enfourage Leeeeeeeroy-ish zerg rushes, and while I can handle (and even thrive in) that sort of combat environment, I prefer to do so only on occasion. It I wanted non-stop frantic action, I'd be playing a shooter; they're better at it. A better (to me) balance of pace is something I've wanted for a while now, but I realize I'm not likely to get it.

I don't want this to sound more negative than I intend (which is "not very"). I've loved this game for over seven years now, and if I leave soon, it won't be a matter of anything much beyond an "all good things must come to an end" situation. This game has given me countless hours of pleasure, many very dear online friends, and more. Clearly one of the best development teams in all of video gaming, too!

tl;dr version: Maybe...but probably not.

"And in this moment, I will not run.
It is my place to stand.
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands."

I have long thrown down the gauntlet to any other MMO out there to draw me away from here and after seven years, none have met the challenge.

True.

This thread is still civil.

I used to be one of those players. Now I'm on the fence, the two things that keep me VIP:

#1 Waiting for staff fighting for 3-4 years since it seems that it may be on the horizon that is an incentive for me to stay. Hopefully my couple of dollars a month will help push it along.

#2 I always forget to cancel my accounts before the auto renewal. Then I get so caught up IRL that I forget later on.

Likely will continue as I have been: VIP while I'm interested in the game and premium when my interest wanes. Since I signed up in 2005, I've taken a total of about 10 months off over the years.

Since I have no interest in the Incarnates system, the only thing I actually lose when I drop to premium is a poop-ton of character slots. And considering what an altoholic junky I am, this is a huge restriction on my play style. So that's basically why I'm still going to be subscribing for the majority of the time.

I unsubbed from the game for ~6 months in 2005 (I resubbed when I got an invite for the CoV beta) and again for another ~6 months this year (I resubbed right before CoH Freedom went live).

So... yeah, I left twice, but both times I eventually came back. So, there it is!
