The problem is that there isn't a market for City of Heroes. 50k subscribers isn't a market, it's a minor blip on some spreadsheet. In the corporate world, 50k people is worthless.
If this game was worth keeping alive from a financial perspective, it wouldn't be dead. It has value to some people, but even from the 50k subscribers, how many are actively trying to save it vs just moving on? Maybe 10k tops.
The game has been dead for a while, it's time to put it in the ground. -
Another stellar idea from the community that consistently labels itself "the most mature and reasonable MMO community on the internet"

Quote:I just wanted to bump this as a reminder to reduce the penalty for the Valentine's event coming up in February. This debuff will be reduced for next years event.
On a similar note, we have ordered a tactical strike on the developer who's idea it was.
No, not really.
Hopefully having a 20 hour debuff didn't chase too many players away and damage the game somehow. Oh well, even if the constant stream of stupid decisions like this, and the dev's refusal to do things like hotfix major issues did somehow damage the game, I'm sure it won't be anything too bad. And if the game does come to some harm, we can all just band together and blame NCSoft instead of pointing out that the constant bad design decisions and inflexibility were the real reasons this game tanked.
CoH forever!!!11!1!!1! -
It's over. Maybe some people that played CoH will someday work on MMOs and incorporate some of the concepts, but this game is dead. Any hops of sequels or fan-projects or any of that other nonsense are just pipe dreams.

Ooh look. Another Fantasy, trinity using, loot based, raiding centric MMO. This garbage is going to fail harder than TOR, and that at least had a different setting.

Yeah, people need to get over whining about Disney. They've done nothing but right by Marvel, and even though Pixar has a few misses, nothing Disney does could be any worse than Jar Jar Binks. Heck, they'd have to try hard to make something more "kiddy" than Ewoks.
My biggest fear about the deal is that Disney won't completely snatch creative control away from Lucas and will let him be too involved in the development of the film. -

As it is, she says they're 'negotiating'. Negotiating for what exactly, we don't know, but it can't hurt to keep a hopeful thought or two that way.Quote:When a respected author drops her own name publicly and starts name-dropping Paragon's head honcho publicly, some of us might tend to give her a lot more credence than your usual internet rumor-mongering chucklehead.

Being a celebrity does not somehow grant someone magical knowledge of ll things under the sun, and these people are just as subject to gross stupidity and poor judgement as any internet troll.

About 8-9 years ago I made a thread with this title on the CoH beta forums decrying the lack of secret identities, travel powers at creation, capes, etc. I was subsequently smacked down by MacAllen and got my first of many CoH forum bans. Still, I've been complaining ever since. I certainly wasn't the loudest or most prolific doomcrier, even if I was one of the earliest.
Still, I played the game at launch, and have returned ever since. Sometime just in time to complain - about ED, about the CoV, about the market, about in-game ads, about pretty much everything. Nonetheless, I continues to play, and pay. I canceled for cong dtretches of time, but I always came back.
Don't get me wrong, I still think you're all a bunch of sycophantic fanboys that refused to recognize problems and call for them to be fixed while they still could be...and too many of you spent way too much time insisting everything was fine with the game when clearly it wasn't.
Still, the game got a lot right and I never wanted it to actually shut down, and it was always nice to come back to. I never deleted any items, and kept a stockpile of good names in reserve (Sorry to anyone that wanted to be Captain Praetoria on any populated server) because I always knew that the need to be a superhero would hit me eventually and I'd want to come back.
So anyhow, adios to the dev team and the fanbase. Hopefully you'll find better success in your next MMO.
Good night, and good luck. -
Someone will just come along and invent a better bullet, or maybe advances like this will finally spur real development in energy weapons!

Terrible film. Worse than ASM by far.
Overly long first act where nothing happens, painfully shallow second act where still nothing happens, third act which was entirely predictable.
Batman Begins was an OK movie...nothing great, but OK. TDK rode the heavens on the performance of a lifetime by an actor who died just before the film was released. This one was absolutely terrible. Of course. it's in good company, as continues the grand tradition of Superhero franchises like X-Men and Spider-Man before it, of going totally in the toilet after the second film. But it really proves to me what I suspected after seeing inception...that TDK was a fluke, and Nolan is an average director who just dug enough holes so that one of them happened to strike oil.
From the shallow development of the relationship between Bruce and a criminally underdeveloped Talia Al-Ghul, to the muddled performances of "Captain Mushmouth" and "99% Woman", there was almost nothing about the film to like. The action was dry and uninspired, and the sheer amount of screen time given to Fake Robin (in an absolutely meaningless subplot) meant that everyone else got shorted.
As for the plot itself...it's like Nolan fell in love with the "bombs on the boat" scene from TDK and decided to turn that scene into a whole movie...except without the great moment where the criminal throws away the detonator and refuses to play the Joker's game. At times it seems like Nolan's trying for some sort of social commentary, but between cutting away to watch Bruce whine or "Robin" act like a block of wood, the message - whatever it may have been - just got lost.
I'd definitely rate this as one of the worst superhero films of the past decade...not as Bad as some (FF, Ghost Rider) but only on a par with those that are considered mediocre (Watchmen, Daredevil) ... and nowhere near the greats (SM 2, TDK) -
Quote:Yeah, he said 'We'll deal with that tomorrow" which was just a way for him to dismiss the situation so it didn't feel unresolved. I saw one post on a another forum from someone that didn't get that it was just a callback to the series premiere who thought it was a setup for the series to continue.Ok on the very last scene when they are driving out of Eureka and she sees the other car with her and her dad in it I heard what she said, "Dad did you see that?" but I didn't hear what Sheriff Carter said, something with the word tomorrow in it, did anyone catch what he said?

Quote:Dude, hate to tell you this, but from reading your posts, and not just this one but over the years, I don't think people were trying to kick the **** out of you for being a gamer. They were doing it because you're an utter ******* ****.When I was in high school, my friends and I used to have people trying to kick the sh out of us every day because we played computer games. We were harassed constantly. When using the internet was a social stigma, we were the outcasts but we took our lumps and called ourselves geeks as a point of pride.

It's an import show - it isn't just filmed in Canada but airs there first...what you're seeing on Syfy is like a year out of date or so. they could edit it for content, but if they wanted to do that extensively they probably wouldn't have picked it up in the first place.

Must have this -
Normal bind commands do not seem to work for Kuji-In Sha. Is there any way to bind this power?
/Bind z "Powexec_name XXXXX" works for every other power I've ever tried, but not this for some reason. -
Drop in some environmental assistance for EBs facing teams, such as giving them one of Anti-Matter's regeneration platforms, A couple of Pink Patches of DOOM or a couple of Recluse's power towers. An EB facing a lone hero would get 0 help, a small team would get one item, those against a full team might get 2 or 3...nothing that would put them on the level of AM or Recluse but enough help to make the team work harder to take them down.

Quote:Right, like they knew about the server crash when they released the broken stuff. Maybe if they would have just not released the broken stuff until it was correct, then they wouldn't be getting the complaints.Has it occured to anyone that fixing the problem that caused a massive server crash the other night may have been just a LITTLE more important than making sure one controller's pet works right?
You can't just assume that that fix was a quick one, or that they aren't still working on it. And for the record, the people who fix things like that are the exact same people who do the updating. If they're busy with something else, updates will have to wait.
Just saying.
On top of that, I seriously doubt that it's the powers team that is fixing whatever went wrong with the servers, so no, it's not the "exact same people" fixing the servers as would be fixing the broken Umbra Beast.
I realize this forum is a hive of fanboys, apologists and butt-kissers, but at least try to make some logical sense while doing it. -
Quote:Magical thinking at its finest. When the beta forums overwhelmingly like something, its probably good. When they overwhelmingly hate something, its probably better, but it'll take a while for people to realize it.
I'm a bit conflicted about BM, since on the one hand I think it has some issues but on the other hand the fact that so many people hate it compels me to reevaluate that opinion just on the basis of statistics alone. -
Quote:The drop rate is garbage. The missions are Ok, and its nice to have something to do with an incarnate. If I really minded the itrials, then it would be a problem. But soloing to get your incarnate stuff at this rate in a game whose bread and butter is making alts? It's nothing but bad.I am totally fine with the rate. Its great. I love it and its great fun and these are the best missons i think you ever put out.
I wonder what you all think. yes it could be higher but its high enough for me.
Yes it could be shorter but its just long enough for me.
please let me know your thoughts. -
Just killed Long Tom on #@$$ing Synapse

Just part of the continuing schizophrenia of CoH. You've got a player base that clearly and unquestionably wants solo rewards at a reasonable rate, but you've got a design team, particularly Positron, who seem s like they'd rather be designing for the WoW hardcore raiding crowd than their actual customers.

Never watched it. Was mildly interested until they cast that block of wood Jason O'Mara as the lead actor. He's the same guy that was in the US version of Life on Mars, and while that had a whole host of other problems, he was terrible in that too. He's just one of those actors some people seem to like that I can't even stand to watch.
