Disney will probably ruin Star Wars just like they ruined The Avengers.

And also... yeah, we know.

Yep, this was announced two days ago, and George is using the money towards philanthropy.

In that case I'd welcome it with open arms.

They ruined it by having mass distribution? Marvel Studios was in charge in its entirety.

Since Lucas said in the past he wasn't interested in making more, I think the mere possibility of a decent movie outweighs the certainty of no movie.

You must have missed the memo... this is the greatest thing to happen to Star Wars since The Empire Strikes Back.

It'd help if folks stopped posting in that forum, though, considering so many people were forced to no longer be VIPs and are excluded from discussions.

Yeah, people need to get over whining about Disney. They've done nothing but right by Marvel, and even though Pixar has a few misses, nothing Disney does could be any worse than Jar Jar Binks. Heck, they'd have to try hard to make something more "kiddy" than Ewoks.

My biggest fear about the deal is that Disney won't completely snatch creative control away from Lucas and will let him be too involved in the development of the film.

There's about seven billion people on this planet. The odds are that at least some of them actually liked Howard The Duck. If that's even just 1%, that would be 70,000,000 people.

70,000,000 fans of a bad movie.

Horrible math. This is stating 7 billion people watched Howard the Duck.

I liked Howard the Duck. Of course, I also like Dolemite movies.

Okay, this doesn't make sense because Howard The Duck wasn't that bad. It was no Citizen Kane, but it was a perfectly acceptable comedy.

The point is that the consensus among fans is that ESB was the best of the original trilogy, and many thought it was so good because George had the least to do with it. If we can extrapolate that Disney will put someone like Joss Whedon or Brad Bird at the helm of the new trilogy, then this should be very good news indeed.

Star Wars IV was just a rip of every conceivable movie genre, from westerns, to Warplane movies, to Sci-Fi to gangsters, swashbuckling etcetc all thrown together into a big melting pot and a massive budget. It wasn't very original, and not very good, just glossy.

From there on it went downhill.

Looking forward to it. I liked Epis I-III - not so much I and II, but III is easily my favorite of the entire franchise. I hope they bring back Luke and Leia without recasting, even if they're only in supporting roles.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

No he's just bitter that he can't blame the Twilight Saga on Disney.

I'd forgive Lucas for all the crap in the prequals if he would just admit, "Yeah, I was making it up as I went along" instead of continuing to claim that all the major plot points are part of some master framework he developed before shooting Star Wars.

Oh, he also has to admit that he incorrectly used the word parsec in relation to the "Kessel Run" instead of the silly explanation involving a black hole.

That said, I do still love the original trilogy (yes, even Jedi.) Heck, I was 12 when Jedi was released. I wasn't much bothered by Ewoks at the time. Though even then I could see the whole L&L are twins thing was just an easy way of resolving a love triangle.
