  1. I've no idea if this is working as intended, or not.

I logged my level 29 Huntsman today to run a few tip missions and arcs. I had 3 tips drop on a regular mish, so as soon as I finished the mission, I accepted the tips and proceeded to do one of them without problem.

Before moving on to the next, I decided to hit up Pocket D and see if anyone was around to do a quick Ganymede Valentines day mission. No one was there, so I turned and left. When I exited the D, I noticed all the tip missions I had in my mission list were gone as if they never existed.

Some quick info, my Huntsman made the alignment switch to Hero months ago and his alignment has been solidly Hero all that time. No switching back and forth. I also did not use the Pocket D teleporter, instead I used the door in Kings Row which is where I was already. (I've had issues with using the teleporter on my Rogue characters in the past, so I avoid using it on any alignment switched character now.)

Sooooo... do tip missions that have been accepted get lost if we enter Pocket D? I've never noticed this behavior before today. Or was this because of my previous alignment switch and entering the Pocket D area?
  2. I still hit up the Hollows on all my alts. It's pretty much my favorite zone in the game. It really does suck though to see how dead it is thanks to the Sewer Trial.

Untrue. I've been locked out of Facebook before because they claimed I had 2 instances of unauthorized access from the UK. I've -never, ever, ever- logged in to Facebook from anywhere but here at home, and very infrequently even when I do log in, and I've sure never been to the UK.

My daughter and husband have also been locked out of FB for the same reasons. They, on the other hand, do log in from other locations than home frequently, such as work, school, cell phone, etc.

Even NCSoft's main site has a similar security protocol. My daughter had to reconfirm her account ownership after logging into the main NCSoft site from her father's house in the States while she was down there for summer vacation.
  4. I adore the Tip missions. More variety would be awesome.

Also, no objection here to some new newspaper/radio missions.

Sadly, it seems with the exception of the SSA, there is very little other new questing content being added for the most part. I'd love to see a quest or two added for all level brackets, here and there on a regular basis. Not much, just an occasional nod that the players like me who love leveling and alting still exist.

I am aware of First Ward. However.... the near constant ambushes and heavy use of psi-damage/end drain turned me off of running that area after I took one at-level squishy alt through.

Not all of us are crazy about raiding, so the iTrials are simply not even an option.

Or the people who had authenticators, who still got hacked.
There were only a handful of people who genuinely were hacked through the authenticator via the use of a Man in the Middle attack and a real-time trojan. (See emcor.dll) This is extremely rare and extremely difficult to pull off and is simply not worth a hacker's time. They literally have to sit there and wait for you to try an log in. Time is valuable as they need to get into your account and get out quickly before being detected. As soon as it was verified that emcor.dll was indeed a viable threat, they upped security at the login level to make it difficult for it to work.

Those others claiming to have been hacked through an Auth.? It came to light that the good majority of them had taken the authenticator off for one reason or the other and the compromise came in that window where it was off. Others were using the far less secure dial-in authenticator and didn't realize that it was not the same as the dongle/mobile version. Others were using the mobile version on a jailbroken phone, which allowed SMS hackers access via a backdoor.

My guess is that BAB's had a positive presence on the forum most of the time and was truly well liked and approachable. He also was a frequent presence in the game, popping into BG's, Pocket D and Zones to chat with players. I've seen a whole lot of screenies floating around showing those times.

To me, that does make a difference in perception of a character itself.

Yes, I'd like it if new content were released more frequently, but I also like the quiet times so I can work on all the other games I have on Steam that are begging me to play them.
    This.

People pop in and out of games all the time, even those that love said games. Breaks can be something much needed at times before burnout and the inevitable apathy that comes with it sets in.

I took a 3 year break myself to play the Big MMO with my family and in fact am still playing and subbed for the next year there. I appreciate and love both games, each for very different reasons. (Frustrates me to no end to see people on either game acting childish and insulting other games and people that actually enjoy them. What this does is gives a bad impression of the community and players and fosters others to start acting in the same way. Cuz it's cool these days to hate things, ya know? )

I'm not as enamored of the Holidays this year. The raid style trials really don't appeal to me, sadly. It's just not my thing at all, so I haven't been really into either Halloween or Christmas stuff.

Doesn't mean I'm quitting though. Just means I'll log on and do the same stuff I do on non-holiday logins. Puttering around solo and having fun.

People who will quit to play the Far Away game will do so anyway, either to see how it is, or because they love the franchise/games. I know my husband is going to play it along with the Big MMO.
  9. I have no idea exactly how Paragon's rules are stated concerning language in game, but I can tell you how another MMO handles it:

The filter is *not* there to allow you to freely use profane language. It is simply there to block said language when people are unable to control themselves and thereby break the very clearly stated game rules against profanity.

I've lost track of the number of times when someone kvetches "then turn on the filter if it bothers you" when people ask them to stop cursing, and the same offenders are shocked when they get reported and subsequently suspended for using such language.

How it breaks down is this: the developers have content rules set down by the ESRB rating and all they have to do is follow those and they're golden and legal-like. Does the ESRB say this is OK for a Teen/Whatever rated game? Yes/No.

Players, on the other hand, have much more restrictive rules to follow to keep people from pushing the boundaries and getting Paragon in big trouble. Give people an inch, and they'll drag that inch through heck and back, twice on Sundays, until it's little more than an unrecognizable red stain on the floor.

Basically, the Devs can pull, "Do as I say, but not as I do." It's their sandbox. We just rent a corner of it.
  10. My thoughts?

Way to ruin it for others via your post title while simultaneously complaining about the story being spoiled for you? =/

And lets not even start about that chump Praetorian wannabe filling in for him.

This would be me as well. I also like States despite his coming off as an untouchable jerk at times.

That said, I figured from the beginning that he was going to die just based on his association with Jack. I'm with others in wondering why it took them so long. The spoiler doesn't ruin it for me in the least. I often look up books and movies in advance as it helps me decide if I want to waste money or not. =p

Despite the "Darrin Wade...? Wut?" moment I had, I'm enjoying the arc so far.
  12. Another one with cleared trays.

Wouldn't be such a huge deal if it hadn't happened to alts that have a ton of powers, ie., Crab Spiders, Huntsman, etc, and those with keybinds.

    Justice 5/15 alts affected

    Virtue 2/3 affected

    Protector 2/5 affected

There was no pattern that I could see. Some were alts that were created back in 2007, others were created in the last month or so. Some were low level, others were max. Some had 2 trays open, others 3 or 4+. Villains, Heroes, Rogues. Didn't matter.

Really a bummer. I once had screenies of my tray setups for alts with lots of powers, but lost them when my computer died. Don't have the keybinds anymore, either. /sigh
  13. I started out really wanting to like it as the previews seemed good enough, but couldn't get into, nor stay with, the show after the first 3 or 4 episodes. Once I missed an episode to something else and didn't feel like I'd really missed anything important, I basically stopped watching unless there was nothing else compelling on.

Something has to pretty much hook me early on, or I wander off, hehe.

Because new players shouldn't -ever- be on the forums to get help, to report bugs, to chat with like minded veteran players, to get advice on a build or class, or just chat about superhero-y things?

That's a pretty narrow minded statement, on the whole.

So, when does a player become 'veteran' enough that they are justified in coming to the forum?
  15. Except that these guys are not limited to Local. They're using the Help channel as well, which does not require being in a high traffic area at all.

They can't afford to have someone live monitoring areas/chat channels, even on a limited basis.
  16. Sorry for the delay in replying. Got busy in RL.

Thank you for the explanation. That makes sense. Still don't get why they friended me though, hehe. Ah well, no biggie.
  17. I had a bit of oddness happen last night and figure I'd see if I could get any information on it.

I got a couple of consecutive tells from someone I didn't know while AH'ing, but I wasn't watching the chat window at all, so I didn't even notice when I got it. It consisted of:

    [Friend] PlayerX - hi
    [Friend] PlayerX - cool

First off, I had no idea who this person was, so why was the tell coming across as [Friend]? They aren't on my friend's list, neither Server, nor Global, and I've never spoken to this person or teamed with them before either. I didn't reply as I had no idea how long those messages had been sitting there, though in hindsight, I should have asked.

It's pretty obvious they were talking to someone else at the time. Is it possible to friend someone without getting a confirmation window to accept or deny?

Meaning this person may have friended me at some point in the past, but I didn't know they had and they sent a tell to me by mistake? Or was it truly a crossing of wires and I ended up with tells that belonged to whoever PlayerX was talking to?
  18. Count me in as a mom who is more conservative at this point in her life.

I could care less about what others in the game are wearing, be it almost nothing, or totally covered. I'm not playing those characters.

I'm also *not* against the revealing, frilly, feminine stuff. There's also a good argument there that Frilly/Feminine does not have to include revealing as well, but I'll leave that to others. I love many of the feminine pieces and use them, covering up skin with tights and other pieces where I can.

My problem is the Gunslinger set having nothing 'gunslinger' for females. Plain and simple.

I don't understand those here who keep accusing us of being prudish, or that we're accusing the designers of being sexist, etc. Desiring to create female characters that are dressed more masculinely, or conservatively female is hardly prudish.

There has not been a single person here who has decried that all sexualized pieces should be removed. Not one.

Now, if I created a frumpy character and stood in Atlas, pointing at all the painted Jezebels running around and hassling them, *THEN* feel free to call me prudish. :P

Otherwise, can we stop derailing things by dragging up such hyperbole?

I have to echo what others have said. Sure, we have some options, but it gets tiring having to resort to those same options over and over when there just isn't anything else conservative being put out to supplement those old options.

One could argue easily that cheesecake can be created with what's already in the game, so why do we need more? Why does conservative get told to 'suck it up' and be accused of trying to ruin the fun?
  19. Tunneling services. They can appear to be from any IP in the world if they so choose and can jump around simply by DC'ing and reconnecting to a different server on the tunnel.

Hey, I love my authenticator. They can get my game pass and login all they want, but without my keyfob, they can't do a thing to my account.

Glad to hear things are being worked on though.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the vast majority of players use the market merely to buy things, not to sell things. Which, if true, would mean that more players are sensitive to purchase price, than they are to profit potential as a seller. If so, having buyers willing to overpay only helps the minority who sell, and sorta hurts the majority who only use the market to find affordable recipes and salvage (hurts in the sense that sellers may raise their minimum selling prices in an attempt to capitalize on what they think is a trend of overpayment behavior). I think if you really want to help folks out, do what I've seen some forum members do (or say they do), and buy up stacks of stuff that is already kinda expensive (overpay for it if you want to help those sellers out as part of this), and then put them back on the market for 1 inf.

BTW, does anyone know the algorithm used to match up bids with items for sale? I don't think I've ever seen it described.
I'm about 75/25 on putting stuff up for sale on the AH these days. Salvage all goes up, usually at cheapo prices since the salvage markets tend to jump around so much.

Recipes, I've mostly given up on selling 100%. If it's not a huge seller, nor is the crafted IO, it gets vendored. I vendor most of the temp powers recipes as well unless they're the more sought after ones that go for a decent price.

Trying to game the market really isn't my thing since we only get to see the last five sales and nothing else.

My attempts at putting in lowball bids for salvage have been pretty much a failure recently. Some salvage bids have been sitting there for days, taking up AH slots I can't afford to have taken up, so I usually cave and buy for the high prices when I need to craft. Bouncing emails around and using unplayed alts as impromptu storage for recipes I want to craft has gotten old. :P
  22. Would it not be possible in the future to take the Gunslinger male/huge pieces and make them available for the female characters, while also putting together a male bartender type set and releasing them as two mini-packs?

One would be a repurpose, the other new.

Would a significant piece of the population truly be angry if female alts got a few more choices per pack by simply allowing the male pieces to be used by females, while still retaining the female only 'girly/sexy' pieces? As mentioned above, the Wedding pack did this and I don't recall at the time there being controversy, though that was a while back and I might be misremembering.

I know from my perspective, it wouldn't bother me in the least. I make characters of both sexes, so there's truly no loss.

The actual part that bothers me overall has been brought up already: the word Gunslinger evokes a very different vision to me than can be gotten in that pack for a female character. I could easily adapt and stick to a male gunslinger only, but many others are not going to feel quite so happy in having to give up their vision for a female, chap wearing, gunslinger.
  23. I'd love this too. It would sure give some more options for leveling during the game as well as some much needed variety. Although, some players might be a bit cheesed to get stuck with CoT ghosts constantly.

    Eco
    Never said I want easy.

There is challenging, and then there is chipping away slowly at a granite block while the enemy drops you to 1/10th your health in one hit. Honoree is little more than an example of the bag of HP's that does massive damage and there's nothing you can do about it to mitigate short of popping insps and praying for the best. That type of boss is a nod back to the old school triad of tank, healer, dps where someone soaks up damage, gets healed back up and the rest dps.

IMO, challenging in a solo setting would be finding what works to avoid said damage while still being effective against him. Finding a weakness, so to speak. Honoree has no such weakness that I saw. He can even fly quickly to close if you try to kite and he seems to break CC so quickly, it's ridiculous. For every advantage an AT has, he seems to have an 'I win' counter to it. Those type of encounters feel like slamming your head against a brick wall over and over to knock it down because you have no tools.

Thanks to the ridiculous amount of portals that start out active in the room, as noted by those above me, you often cannot even pull him without dragging multiple Rikti. So now, you have a whole bunch of highly damage resistant mobs pinging you in addition to the EB and since Rikti all have highly dangerous ranged attacks with stuns and melee knockdowns, even if you manage to CC some of them, you're still screwed in many cases because some AT's have little or no way to handle such a barrage.

If you're going to throw massive amounts of adds at us, then make the EB a bit on the squishy side to accommodate, and vice versa. Honoree is so difficult on his own that Rikti pouring out of active portals feels downright sadistic and overkill. I'm talking from the solo perspective, mind you. A team has many tools in the form of varied AT powers to handle boss + adds. A soloist has much fewer options so a challenge to them is another animal entirely.

I really don't feel 'kill a few adds and die, buy more insps then rezone and kill a few more adds and die, buy more insps and rezone and then try to down the boss' is much of a strategy, is it? It is a strategy, granted, but it's not a good one and I just feel grateful the encounter is over and done once it's finished and that's not really a good feeling to me.
  25. Ahh, this has happened to me twice on Virtue and once on Protector, I believe it was. Had just barely logged in from creating new alts and got hit with a global invite the second I zoned in.

I figured it was an overzealous freem who was standing around Ms. Liberty and just declined, then I noticed people on help were talking about the same thing happening to them when they logged in first thing.
