Gender Equality in Costumes - A lack thereof

Right. I think that just about take the final straw.

It's pretty much become a common knowledge running not-joke now that, for every cool pack that comes out, the Male and Huge models will get the 'Cool' stuff, and the Females will geth the 'Sexy' version.

Someone tell me what is wrong with THIS image;

One of them is quite clearly a gunslinger. Leather chaps? Check. Thick jacket? Check. General 'Gunslingery' kit? Check and check.

And....a....uh....barmaid.

WHAT. THE. HELL?

Sadly, as most know, this isn't the first time this utter failure in design has come about. In fact, it's been with us for some time now;

Steampunk Booster 1;

Steampunk Booster 2;

Magic Booster;

Did it get any better with the Barbarian Booster? Y'know, heavy armour and furs and rags, right?
Did it hell;

Now, sure, with a bit of work you can make, say, the 'Gunslinger' saloon wench look a bit less bloody stupid;

But there are still no new jackets. No, the ladies haven't had any new full jackets for bloody AGES, and the veteran Trenchcoat is NOT enough to fill that massively lacking gap. No waistcoats, no knee length boots, nothing SENSIBLE. It's all 'sexified'.

And that's not bad...IN MODERATION. But this is ALL THE DAMN TIME! Every pack!

Yet I KNOW the Devs can do gender equal stuff! They did it in the Science pack;

-and with the Vanguard Armour;

-and PPD and IDF armour;

So WHY can they not make equal or at least variable stuff with the other packs? Why is that guys get the half reasonable stuff (the cow-skull shoulder plates still look daft as hell IMO) and then the ladies get outfits that would fit better on some sort of ******?
Im sorry, I know Comic Books are trending towards 1D, shallow and empty headed takes on previously half-decent female characters but COME THE SMEG ON! Seriously? Did the 27 pages worth of 'Oh not another corset! Where's my jacket?!' even get read? Once?

Or was it another famous case of 'We're the Devs, we know best! These players clearly don't know what they themselves want! We shall supply what we are certain they want instead!'
Because, oh, where does that sound familiar?

I, for one, am sick of this, guys. There are plenty of others who are. I know this thread will probably get ignored or, at worst, locked. But what the smegging hell. This is starting to take the biscuit.
Not amused.

I think you've proven the point very well TBA. This is a trend that we keep seeing and it's a) disappointing to see such gender difference and b) extremely disappointing that all the feedback given on these packs has been ignored.

I will admit to buying most of the packs, including the Steampunk, Magic and Barbarian guilty parties here but I barely use them on female alts. However, I will be keeping my points from now on and considering carefully each new pack that comes out. If enough players feel the same about the pre-tinting and gender difference, they'll know about it soon enough.

COH:Freedom - The Cash Grab has put a higher emphasis on RL money than ever before. Not buying it is about the only feedback listened to these days.

You know, I saw the initial Gunslinger conversations and I didn't care much about the male/female differences until I was in the market looking at what the guys got that my female characters would be more likely to wear and couldn't have. And now I see this pic example, and that is exactly what I experienced as I looked at the market. I wanted chaps and 'gunslinger' for my dual pistol girl. She is not Sally Mae Saloon. If I wanted her to look like a tart, we already have plenty of options for that.

But I refused to get down about it because I knew there was a pistol with a blade on it, and that is what I wanted - even if I didn't get anything else in the set.... and it has frakkin' stupid horns on it! There are stupid steer horns coming out of cool bladed pistol! I cannot use that for anything.

Did not buy it. Did not buy any of it. First pack I will skip entirely.

I don't see any issues with it. They are costumes representing dress of those periods in time. Sure there are exceptions to the rule but you can only incorporate so many pieces in one set. If the female version got all the male pieces you would have players complaining about not having the female only pieces.

In the name of Gender Equality, the gunslinger pack should contain:

Cool cowboy costume pieces for male (and huge) characters.
Saloon singer costume pieces for females
Cool cowboy costume pieces for females

I don't think equality is the right word, but I agree.

Hmn, where else have I been seeing this trend...?

Oh yes (sorry David) ;

It seems to be a worrying theme in general female design these days, and that also makes it an ASSUMPTION that all female characters are going to be modelled on this.

Heads up guys! NOT ALL OUR FEMALE CHARACTERS ARE *****S!

So...

Much...

RAGE!

THAT IS NOT A GUNSLINGER OUTFIT. HOW CAN IT BE A GUNSLINGER PACK IF THE FEMALE OPTION IS NOT A GUNSLINGER OUTFIT! HELL, THERE ISN'T EVEN A DERRINGER PISTOL TO BE SEEN! THAT'D LEND SOME CREDENCE TO IT BEING 'REPRESENTING THE DRESS PERIOD OF THOSE TIMES' AND YOU KNOW WHAT?

If I buy a Gunslinger pack I expect to look like a gunslinger! .

For starters, I do agree that there needs to be some equalization in regards to Male/Female costume choices (Baron & Gunslinger Jackets, I'm looking at you...). But you have to admit there is a segment of the playerbase that does like more Sexy, for lack of a better term, attire for Female characters.

For me personally, I plan on getting the Gunslinger pack. I can do stuff w/a number of the pieces. About the only thing I am getting tired of is the Fracking tinting on a lot of the stuff. Yes, texture is nice, but if it doesn't work well with other stuff, then what good is it?

Thank you for the time...

The point remains - not every set needs to be unbalanced.

And, I imagine they could have found a "tough but sexy" rather than find the period pieces associated with saloon hall girls - a rather socially unsavory option to choose, fwiw...

'Those periods in time'?

At THAT period in time, any woman showing that much skin would be known as one thing and one thing only.

For ACCURATE period stuff, try something a bit more realistic ;

That make the point clear enough?

I'd be happy with this:
Cool cowboy costume pieces for male (and huge) characters.
Cool cowboy costume pieces for females

And call it a day.

OP. That much thigh in the period would be scandalous.

No.

Or rather, there is no "cowboy hate" in the set.

That is the default 'Gunslinger' costume for females when selected from the drop down menu.

I will sign this in blood if I have to...so frakken SICK of it.

Yes, I have SOME costumes on my females that could be considered "sexy", but I would like to have other options! When my options are weighted towards sexy, or to just keep repeating the same basic costume on all my characters (curse you Altitis). Even the "shirts" are sexy style....

As a female gamer, I am not going to go on some feminist rage rant or anything, I just want to see more options aside from "sexy" out there.

In the designer's defense, we also got Nightstar and Battle Maiden, who are both pretty tough customers that are less revealing in their outfits.

As much as I would love new jackets for women I can understand why they don't make more. And it all comes down to the chest. Look at anything in the jackets section while playing a woman. All of the pieces suddenly make you 20 times bigger than you were before. The places where I take issue with the inequality are with what in theory could be gender neutral. I'm talking about the likes of the gloves from the Barbarian pack. Or even that women it seems have to wear spurs in this new set. Men get boots without, why don't women? Is this just an oversight? Its one that seems to be getting worse.

Hmm...thought.

Ok, I presented the idea of Female pets for MM 2 years in a row, and they used the "err on the side of caution" excuse on me both times, stating that it could be seen as offensive, or sexist, or a setup for misuse of mobs/minions.

Yet they keep giving us the costumes like in the OP?

It kind of removes their sexist argument on the MM pets....

Sadly, this isn't the first pack that has missing female pieces for no reason. Take a look at the magic pack. Males and huge can use the occult collar but females can't. There's no reason for it either.
