@ergreddfer wants to be Global Friends. Accept?

Guardian actually. And I know at least one other player who'd gotten the same request from the same bot on a different server.
Do we now need a 'report friend requester as spammer' button?

i heard about that from players on Virtue in one of my global channels yesterday. Seems a bit of an odd approach, but they're probably making the accounts either using the $0.99 VIP offer or credit card numbers from RMT users. Most likely the former.
Those sorts of idiots i immediately ignore as spammers. i'm a bit more polite about declining global friend requests from some random person i teamed with. i try to be helpful and informative, but my global friends list is hardly infinite, so i generally only accept requests from people i've gotten to know first.

I guess I don't understand how this benefits the RMT'ers...
They get the global name and/or local name...but...you can get that easily enough...especially since they most likely had to type out /gfriend @whateveryourglobalis
I haven't seen this in-game myself but....*shrugs*
I like the pic. though!

hes been hitting every server.
they try it because they think if they can get past the filter by being someone's friend, they can then email them.

I got the exact same thing today. Thought it might be some newb misusing the search tool. Glad I didn't even bother to send a tell.
Got it last night, mid-Lambda, on Guardian. When it popped up, I did a /getlocalname @ergregdfer and it returned @ergregdfer has the local name: Mindsdw. Since that wasn't anyone on the League, I declined.
Half the League said they got it, too.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
Sounds like the devs need to disable the /whoall command, as I think a bot could use that info to enumerate a list of global names and do a looping invite.
Hi everyone!
I'm Errol Gregory d'Ferrer. Have you all been getting my global friend invites OK?

the /Whoaal command only works for all in that zone, not in the game.
Krag, others and myself were mid-Lambda when we got it, so he must have used the /search command.
Either way, i think it's a bit silly to allow free players to Global friend others if they can't sent them a tell. Either give them both, or neither.

I've gotten that once or twice, I think I accidentally accepted once, no immediate consequences though I removed them from my list later.
Second time apparently it was someone I teamed with earlier who switched accounts and wondered why I didn't accept their friendvite, there was no hard feelings but heh, I can't ever be right can I? :P

Ahh, this has happened to me twice on Virtue and once on Protector, I believe it was. Had just barely logged in from creating new alts and got hit with a global invite the second I zoned in.
I figured it was an overzealous freem who was standing around Ms. Liberty and just declined, then I noticed people on help were talking about the same thing happening to them when they logged in first thing.
Tonight I experienced the next step in RMT evolution.
I hope none of us is foolish or lonely enough to fall for blind global friend requests from a randomly generated account. But just in case... |
Assumed it was from someone on my itrail and paid the price one pays to 'assume'.
Got the RMT email and promptly removed them from my global friends list.
We don' need no stinkin' signatures!
And after i posted my reply yesterday, i logged into the game, to find 4 emails from almost the same names, incl our ergreddfer person.. all the same header and it was about rmt.
They are getting annoying again, it was years ago that the spammers used the email system.

On the bright side, as long as the "gold farmers" are interessted in us, it means the game itself is alive and well.

They've been doing that for a while now - I've had two of them try it, well before the $0.99 VIP offer was available.
