Oh, Force Fields: Agree on the less "soap bubble" animation. Possibly one that would surround both you and the target in a fashion similar to what Ice Armor does, but with more rounded/smooth edges.

  • Eyebeams for at least one Blast set. Energy Blast is the obvious choice. Nova is the only power in the set that seems problematic for eye-based beam attacks. Electricity seems to offer no problems for eye-based attacks, so that would be my second choice.
  • Low-tech animations/user power effects for the Medicine Pool.
  • Animations to allow Crossbows for Archery and Trick Arrows.
  • Complete the alternate set for Martial Arts so each attack has an alternate, and make the punches flow more smoothly.

Always thought greater fire sword should be similar to that option. But I was thinking of something like shield charge. Your character dashes forward and stabs the ground with a fire sword causing a localized fiery eruption.

(And can we bug someone for alternate sounds on Sonic Blast? Odd enough on male characters, absolutely jarring on female. And they don't sound particularly consistent - it's a mish mash of sounds.)

Proton Volley. Most of the snipes look ok (IMHO) coming from a single arm - I'd love to see a dual-arm "fork" for these giant volleyballs of doom to come out of.

I never used flares because of the old and especially new animations.

Can we change flares animation to the power blast animation?

In no particular order:
* Magic-compatible animations for the Medicine pool (glowing hands, perhaps?)
* Tech-compatible animations for the Teleport pool (activate a device rather than wave your arms)
* Non-sword versions of the Fire Sword powers
* Kinetic-melee-style buildups for the Energy Blast powers
* A version of Headsplitter that doesn't feel like you're lifting a hundred-pound sword into the air
* Left-handed versions of things like Broadsword and Shield Defense
* Non-Tarzan options for everything with a "pound your chest" animation

For me

Piercing Round- I might be the only one who doesn't like the look of this power but I hate it. Every time my DP throws the gun in the air I ask my self why. It just seems stupid to me. New animation for the hole set that is not Gun-fu would be cool.

Thunder Strike/Total Focus/Incandescent Strike-or any of the melee attacks that have the Jump Animation. Something that is a non-jump-in-the-air animation.

Impale- looks like they are about to throw baseball not a spin.

Ripper/Eviscerate-sick of doing a back flip. like Billz said something like sweeping strike would be cool.

Cremate-It as the same animation as Air Superiority, would just love something different.

Jacobs Ladder- Just a boring animation IMO.

Integration-somthing other then chest thumping.

Shadow Maul-Just sick of this animation with having Sands of Mu of all of my Alts.

Ok here it goes....

Can we try and match animations to the type of costume pieces available.

Example: I roll up a Rad Blast/ Energy Melee Blaster . My look is a cyborg. With bionic right eye, right arm and both legs.

What I would like to see in the options for power animations are that my blasts can come from just my right eye, and my melee attacks and aoe's imminate from my right arm.
This is all a character concept that is not to far fetched.

Lets see what this might mean.

Rad Blast:

Neutrino Bolt, Xray beam, Cosmic Burst, and Proton Volley, being the single target powers of the set, would be understandable coming out of a single eye. Size of bolt or energy ball may need a tweak so as to "fit" the opening to be fired from.

Aoe powers would be a bit more difficult to manage..but would be like hurl's animation while using Shield Defense..you get the one handed version.

Thinking about this, I guess it would work for almost every blast set. I am reminded of the costume options for Aura, then Combat Aura, where you can have light coming out of both eyes, right eye, or left eye.

But as the costume options allow, I see One robotic arm, dual arms, and a third full arm option. The Reticle, Monocle are all right side only.
And the goggle options are legion, so no worries there.

In the end my suggestion for changes would be immination points for the blasts to be right eye, both eyes, right arm, left arm, both arms, as well as a selection of "firing" size. Maybe I want proton volleys balls of energy to be original size and coming from my right eye. And a way to make melee options single arm or dual arm.

Ok..this sounds like a lot of work...but..does anyone have issues with this idea as a general starting point?

Illusions. The phantom army is ugly. This might be petty, but I won't even play that set because the animations are so boring. ILLUSIONS, by god! You'd think it'd be wonderous and crazy, not generic.

For ranged Ice powers (blasts, mezzes, shields--whatever can be applied at range), I think alternate animations involving liquid water would be nice. Block of Ice, for example, would get a column of water rushing up around the target and solidifying into the block. The ice shields could be similar. Some of the blasts could feature a stream of water from the caster to the target that freezes as it hits.

First off, thanks for asking Castle.

1. Granite Armor. If we can't get a version that doesn't replace our avatar completely, then as Hallowed mentions above me, how about some different looking things to turn into? Unrealted: any way to make my female tanker not sound like a man when she Taunts while in Granite?

2. Sonic Attack/Sonic Resonance I think we'd see a lot more use from these awesome powersets if there was a more "tech"-based animations. Even if it causes weapon draw. Really this could apply to any blast set.

3. Blast sets with animations like Kinetic Melee. My character does some Tai-Chi and fire blasts out of the air at her opponents. Imagine this with the Fire/ snipe instead of squatting. Really, anything to make the old blast sets not look so static and boring.

4. No-FX/PvP-only options for Hasten, Super Speed, Combat Jumping, Super Jump, Teleport, Fly, Tough, and Weave.

5. No-FX/PvP-only options for Energy Aura.

6. All the "breath attack" blasts should have a hands version. It's only thing, for example, that has prevented me from making a /Poison Mastermind.

7. Spectral Terror, love the sound FX, not crazy about the visual. Anything more scary would be nice.

8. I know this falls more into the costume department, but anything that could be done to get jetpacks with animated Fly as a Back option would be appreciated.

9. Hover - you know how a character who Hovers looks when they finish the Soul Storm animation? I want my villain to Hover like that all the time.

10. Wrist and/or shoulder mounted weapons for Assault Rifle.

11. No-FX/PvP-only options for all APP/PPP defensive auras.

Aw, that's an awesome idea; allow us to set a power to use certain (or any if that's too complicated) of it's available animations randomly each time you activate it.

I would like to see alternate animations for Martial Arts.

But what I would suggest is when what ever changes you do go into affect, create a sort of Dojo that is specific to the power set, through there we could have a set of story arc missions that we could choose from which will unlock a new animation.

By completing these missions, we could choose a bonus to that power, such as 2% increase to (damage, accuracy, ect......)


Other animations would be for the healing power pool set. Maybe instead of taking out a device, throw pills at the person, or health pack. (sorry been playing a lot of left 4 dead lately).

Kheldian Powers: All - I know color customization doesn't make sense to keep things in-theme, but alternate animations (human forms) would go a LONG way to make them feel more personalized.

Ice Armor: Effects/Toggles - While I'm sure some really like the legacy toggle look, the effects for Ice's toggles look VERY little like ice right now. Perhaps something that takes into consideration reflections in Ultra Mode?

Forcefield: Effects - A more honeycomb/faceted look to the fields.

Power Pools

  • Travel -- use hover animation & flight emotes for flight, puff-of-smoke or arm-tech summoning for TP, less glowie/color customize for SS, landing crater for SJ
  • Leadership -- no ideas really, but something less military
  • Medicine -- use empathy or pain dom animations, something less techie
  • Fighting -- martial arts style options
Empathy/Pain Dom
  • As much as I complain about wanting non-techie versions of the power pools, I'd be selfish to not mention techie versions of these
Blasts (& more)
  • Staffs, wands, rifles & rayguns -- various weapons to fire each blast through a staff, wand, or gun; other non-blasts could do the same, when appropriate (i.e. confuse/stun/hold raygun, or weather summoning staffs)
  • Dual Pistols -- I love the set, personally, but I could like something more "cowboy" as well
  • Fire blast -- the snipe power in this set bugs the heck out of me. I hate it. Hate.
Masterminds
  • In-game critters -- if not complete customization, how about allowing relevant sets from in-game critters (i.e. -Arachnos robots, Warrior thugs, CoT demons, Tsoo ninjas, etc)
Traps/Devices
  • more magical versions (i.e. mystic circles for targeted AoEs)

Possible new Eviscerate animation that I think would look good, using ones that exist: a modification of Slash's one-two (1.33s) where both hands are left forward "inside" the target, followed by the end of Sweeping Strike (1.23s) where you rip your claws out to the side. I think that leaving the lunge part of SS's animation and the recovery to neutral position out of Slash's animation would let you trim it down to within the 2.33 seconds it would need to be to fit in the existing time.

Other powers that I don't really like the animations on:
- Integration / Tough: I hate the tarzan emote.
- Dark Armor: can we get something other than the same animation 4x?

Also, in general (probably too much due to behind-the-scenes extra work):
- An option that cycles (either in order or randomly) between all of the alternate animations?
- Even better, an option that cycles between a list of selected ones?

I would love some changes on defensive animations. I would enjoy being able to change the animations for almost all of Willpower's toggles, so that they look more subtle. I really don't like the animation for Heightened Senses, for instance, and would want to make that the animation from an SR toggle.

Broadsword could use some new animations, I always felt stupid using most of them, especially the one where I stomp my foot on the downstroke.

Teleport, DEFINITELY. Of course, you haven't gotten around to telling us if/when power pool customization may happen so... how hard would it be to change teleport to a blink? I'd kill for a teleport that used the smoke poof from the Cast costume change emote. In fact, most of those animations would be awesome for toggles. I'd use Energy Morph for Elude in a second.

Claws could use some loving in the animation department too, adding in some bestial effects.

Assault Rifle needs some new animations too. But what the hell that even means, I can't say.

As someone else said, Axe/Mace/Broadsword all need alternate animations so players have the option of making them look different. Especially broadsword, ever since dual blades came out it's felt lacking by comparison. Also maybe some more stylized animations for katana/ninja blade would be cool.

Also some alternate animations for some of the more standard movements. So like a blast or punch movement that a lot of sets all share just with different fx attached, if those could get alternates that could be used with all those sets it would probably be a very good use of animator time. The punches could even just get some of the existing kick animations to mix things up.

Obvious I know, but this sounds like Power Customization is getting another surge of updates - which hopefully means we can color (or Minimal FX) Power Pool stuff as well as APP/PPP colors.

One more to add for me: Bubbles that look like they are tech oriented. Not soapy, and definitely not sounding like a dolphin is being skinned alive.

[Edit] Oh, another one actually. Make Teleport use the Lightning Rod animation and effects, but without the splash impact. Being able to ride the lightning to your destination would be IMMENSELY awesome.

I'd like to be able to specify a device for all the blast sets, and then be able to select that device as the point of origin for the blast instead of the hands.

I've read other comments that this introduces the problem of drawing times for the weapon, but with powers like the sword from Fiery Melee and the hammer from Stone Melee the weapon just appears immediately. So it's not clear that's really the stumbling block.

As for the devices, it would be nice to have a selection of guns, wands, rods, staves, etc. There would probably be two sets of animations required: one for two-handed weapons like rifles and staves, and another for one-handed weapons such as pistols, rods and wands.

To simply things, I'd be perfectly happy for each one of these sets to have pretty much the same animation on the character, using the existing blast mechanics to differentiate the power used. And I wouldn't mind if all the blast sets shared that same basic character animation. That is, a fire blaster using the same wand mechanics as an ice blaster would suit me fine -- the appearance of the blast itself is enough of a differentiation.
