  2. Tried out The Secret World and Star Trek Online. Ended up getting the lifetime sub for TSW. I like STO OK, and may play it more once CoH sunsets.

That said, wish I was instead enjoying I24 on live and speculating what I25 would bring.

  4. A logical acquisition to follow up the LucasFilm purchase. After all, it's well known that Lucas made more money off the merchandising of Star Wars, most of it through Kenner/Hasbro, than through the movies themselves, and Lucas at least at one point was one of Hasbro's largest shareholders.

Hasbro is also the license-holder for Marvel toys I believe.
  5. Left to right...

    Madame Xanadu
    Amethyst
    Andrew Bennett (aka I... Vampire!)
    Frankenstein
    Timothy Hunter
    John Constantine
    Deadman
    Black Orchid

Anyway, Del Toro + Swamp Thing would be the most exciting comic book movie I could dream of. Hopefully he follows through.
  6. Cautiously optimistic. Disney has been a good owner for Pixar, Marvel, and to some extent Jim Henson Productions, mostly leaving them a free hand.

Lucas announced he was transitioning LFL over to Kathleen Kennedy over the course of this year as well, and it looks like Kennedy will still be the main decision-maker there.

I'm not a raging anti-Lucas guy (I mean, the guy gave us Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and ILM... I can forgive a lot of sins with that track record), but it's clear that Star Wars needed a fresh hand. Disney provides a lot of cash that can back big ideas.

Yes, especially if the a quorum of PS devs were involved. Whatever is on the community's wish list of "Things I Wish CoH Could Do", their list is about 30 times longer.

So... you're not a sock puppet? You just think it's A-OK to stop by every thread talking about this and tell everyone their wasting their time?

I promise you, I will not follow you around to every thread.

I'm not particularly hopeful at all. But there's nothing wrong with people that are. They're choosing to spend their time trying different things. I see nothing wrong with that.

And there's folks that spend their time trying to tell everyone else that they're wasting their time. Nothing wrong with that either, except they go to every single thread to say it. And that makes them look like a jack.

Nothing wrong with my community spirit, it's a serious question. What do you have to gain from spreading negativity into every. single. thread. people post about their reaction to this?

I guess you could just be trolling, but I actually hope you're getting paid for this.

  12. Pohsyb. Combining 3 inspirations to make 1 was an unbelievably good QoL thing. Thanks.

    This. Bring on Super Town!

That was beautiful, thank you for sharing VoodooGirl.

    Where to now?

    I did a 3-day trial for TSW.

I'm kind of on the fence. It's strong in the storyline department as mentioned above, and it's a great-looking game.

I'm not sure if I like the ability/skill system though. It's not particularly intuitive, and I don't know if I like the idea of being able to just switch-out a completely different build. I mean, my characters' powers in CoH are part of them, part of who I imagine them to be. I can't imagine Rosa Quartz joining up on a team and going "Oh, we need a blaster instead of a tank? No problem, I'll just load up a different set of powers." I guess what I'm saying is that switching out powers like that hurts my emersion. And in a game like TSW, emersion is everything.
  16. You've been outstanding in your job, sir.

Hopefully we'll all meet again in City Of Heroes II: The Search For More Money. May the Schwartz be with you!
  17. Give the news to my kids, and there would be much joyful noise.

I think the best productive and practical thing we can do is encourage Cryptic to hire our dev's before they all find other jobs. Probably to go work on generic fantasy MMO's, which would be a giant shame.
It's no more or less practical than... what are you trying to do? Get Cryptic to hire them to work on CO?

I'd rather see them work on a new project that I could someday maybe seeing myself playing.

Agreed, thanks to everyone for your thoughtful answers. I hope somehow we can still see some version of your future plans.
  20. Keep in mind that their severance packages are likely tied to a non-disclosure agreement. For financial reasons, I suspect no dev will comment openly on the closure except in the most broadest ways.
  21. NCSoft killed City of Heroes.

If "economic realities" forced their hand, there were likely many ways they could have divested themselves of the game that wouldn't have involved the immediate termination of a studio of developers, the immediate cessation of their work, and as of November 30 is disenfranchisement of the player-base from the game. They chose not to avail themselves of any of those options, at least not to date.

This. Massive layoffs, tightening credit markets, and uncertain economic conditions tend to make people re-evaluate where their money goes.

Wouldn't we play it just because Fun is Mandatory?

Also, why stop at Transmetropolitan? Let's have a whole Warren Ellis OnLine game.

I'd started taking Medicine and Presence pool powers on characters I was leveling up in live just so I wouldn't have to respec into those pools when I24 released.

First time in 8 years I'd taken "Stimulant".
