NCSoft's Official Response to Us
Shocked
And thank you, HitStreak, for relaying the message.
I hope we can hear from the other side of these exhausted efforts to sell.
I appreciate NCSoft's message. They certainly didn't have to say a thing about it to us.
Regardless, this is certainly not the news that we wanted to hear.
I hope there is still a way for a sale, but they're saying that option is over.
I know that there are other ways that this game can (and likely will) live on, but nothing short of the full sale of the game, the servers, database and IP and continuation of development through Paragon Studios would equal City of heroes truly living on.
If this holds true, at best, an echo of what once was would be something we might have one day.
That or another option, some day, far down the developmental road from now.

That's what they say. What's the truth? NOBODY wants a great, albeit old game with a fanatically loyal fanbase? Nobody wants $$$$???? I don't have to give my $$$$ if nobody wants it.
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
I wonder how long it took all their people to word that as carefully as possible.
"City of Heroes has a special place in all of our hearts,"
Yes and I'm sure that's what they were thinking when they fired paragon studios without warning, gave no official announcement, and removed any trace of the game from their website. gg.
There's still hope for private servers though, right?
I have to admit though, I was pretty sure they were never going to allow CoH to live once they decided to close it down for good.
It was still a noble effort on everyone's part who tried to save it. At least you tried.
"Oh crap, a bunch of people we just dispossessed by killing their profitable game are mad at us and aren't going away! I know, let's hire a PR damage control firm to make them pipe down! What? Don't kill the game? ROFLMAO! Yah rite!"
What a bunch of worthless chuckleheads.

The team at Paragon Studios has been, and continued to be, so incredibly talented, dedicated, in-touch with their customer-base and deserving of respect for what they'd done and what they were still doing.
At worst, they should have had time and notification to wrap things up.
So, given that, yeah, I can't entirely trust NCSoft when they say what they have said today.

Right. I truly hope that the other sides of such negotiations are free to speak about it as well. If they've truly exhausted such efforts, there should be more than a few sources to account for their end of it.

Disgusted, but NOT surprised.
Also disgusted by crap like "City of Heroes has a special place in all of our hearts." Wow, I wonder how they treat things they hate, then. To even spout such dreck to us shows how stupid they think we all really are. I'd respect them more if they came straight out and said "**** all of you."
Because that is what actually happened. Don't sugarcoat it.
We had word that some of the devs were trying to work out something to allow them to spin the game and Paragon Studio off from NCSoft. This response makes it sound like that's not going to happen ....
My COX Fanfiction:
Blue's Assembled Story Links
If anything this tells me to redouble our efforts. 2 months before the shutdown and they "exhausted" all avenues? I call BS.
It's probably just something designed to blunt the movement and "quiet down" the people who have been most vocal. This certainly hasn't done NCSoft and Nexon any favors PR wise.
Until there is a Kickstater or Crowdfunding effort that is put and and fails, I am still going to keep on for trying to get a COH revival. I don't believe for a second that someone wouldn't want to take the risk on this unless NCSoft is making the buy price something so high that noone could afford. That could always be the case so they could turn around and say "See we tried and did our best but noone wanted it"
I will be on Twitch TV tomorrow to hear the other side of the story hopefully.
Well then. Our one last option is to wait for NCSoft to enter bankruptcy and be forced to liquidate all of its assets. We'd have to be collectively poised to pounce on that opportunity the moment it arrives. :P
We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful. |

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wow, official response and it only took them FIVE WEEKS TO MAKE ONE FRIGGIN PARAGRAPH!

With such a vague comment, cant help but simply think that this means "we [this tiny group of people at NCSoft West] attempted to sell but the Korean mothership refused".

Be well, people of CoH.
The only reason that would have failed would be because the greedy bastidges wanted too much money for something they were writing off. If they wanted to sell, they'd have taken an offer.

What is the next move? Despite the outcome, there is still much that can be done, maybe not for a legitimate revival of Cox but we can still push back at NC in other ways, yes?
Yeah definitely not the response I was hoping for
So it looks like Plan A is down the tubes officially now.
So basically this means the game is dead.
Looks like my last hoorah will be on 10/20/2012 then when I do the Extra Life campaign. I will continue to try to get sponsors because Children's Miracle Network is an awesome cause...and it looks like 10/20 will be the last time my in game friends and I will get together.
I have no desire to be a part of plan Z or anything like that. I wanted the game to continue; even if it was on a skeleton crew of designers etc...damn it I wanted Issue 24.

Once again, we will be holding events throughout the process of preparing for the game's end, and we encourage players and fans of the franchise to join forces and enjoy their time in a game that we've enjoyed supporting for more than eight years.
The NCSOFT® Team
This, in no way, means that the players' efforts to change NCSoft's minds, find/help capable and interested buyers and some how, some way, keep City Of Heroes alive and running are over. Not at all.
We can only wait to see if people from Paragon Studios will speak about their end of things.
Obviously, the talented and wonderful people of Paragon Studios are so integral to a continued success and development of this game we all love. At some point, they will certainly have to stop fighting for the IP and/or game, but until they tell us that they have exhausted their efforts, I'm not going to guess that they have.
Not good news, but it is not the end of the SAVECOH efforts.
Stay strong, my friends.
