It's not surprising that this community isn't taken seriously by NCSoft when it consistently insists on making sh*t up.

Because there could have been a nice tasty revenue stream - with nothing for them to do but count the money. They could have quite happily licensed the game and left the rest to a new team and taken a revenue stream for sitting on their collective arses!

This right here, plain and simple. If we assume that NCSoft has floated offers - and that's a REALLY BIG assumption - then they were asking for substantially more than what any potential buyers were willing to put down.

But this is not exactly news. When it comes to NCSoft, it's always been about the bottom line. Just look at Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Dungeon Runners, Exteel, and probably a few more I can't recall right now. Let's see how long they stay firmly behind GW2 once profits begin to decline, and how much of a chance they give Wildstar if it isn't insanely popular in both NA and Asia right from the start.

Sorry NCSoft, but I call bull on that one.

When it takes over a month to come up with any sort of response to the fanbase's efforts. When there is nothing coming from any other industry sources about attempts to sell the IP. When possibly the most amazing and dedicated Dev team in the industry is tossed out on it's collective ear without so much as a by your leave...

Platitudes like this are just a little too unbelievable and insulting to be taken as a true representation of the situation.

All rumor. All of it. We havent seen anything from them about it. No use talking about something that very likely never took place.

Offers? Nope they never said anything solid about that or their true intentions.. All speculation ..

Stay strong, my friends.

No, not good news, and I'm not happy about it. It's NCSoft's perogative to not sell their stuff, but I don't have to like their descision.

Oh well, time to start copying my characters with the Titan export tool thingy, in order to prepare for the coming hackocalypse.

If talks are over, then I'd like to know what caused them to fail ...

The most beautiful thing (from NCSoft's point of view) is that everyone that ever sat down to negotiate anything is likely bound by an NDA. They can now claim anything and no one can legally refute it... scumbags.

No unexpected. Good try though.

This is all inference on your part.

You don't know how much the revenue stream would be.
You don't know how much the potential write-off that they would lose would be.
You don't know what the value of the IP is.
You don't know what the brand exposure is.

Based on the analysis you've put up so far, it makes complete sense for George Lucas to license a Star Wars game for $2.00. After all, it's free money, isn't it?

I think that's fairly simple...

This..Its over now. No use whatsoever to keep talking about something we cannot ever ever change now...Only way we can keep playing this game is if someone steals it...

You have got to be ******* kidding me, all the effort and time that all of us put in to try to save this game and we get a "no but thanks for everything" paragraph.....

Goddammit I feel so bad for Paragon Studios, TonyV/Titan, and everyone else who cared...

To all of you on the forum that I have read your posts, thank you, you all are great.
But this is the last straw and my final post, I will never support/play a ncsoft title again.

So in closing....pancake Ncsoft really as a business who has no understanding of western mmo's, you can really butter my pancake.....

Maybe they learned that people were working on an emulator...

What I expected, and frankly they would have been better off saying nothing.

Really? You'd rather be left believing that negotiations were still ongoing?

They are an MMO company - they know from past closures (Which NCSoft has done quite a few of) that emulators always pop up... so no I am very certain that has absolutely NOTHING to do with it.

You wanna know why they failed: NCSoft asked an outrageous amount of money that no company would be willing to spend on an MMO. Instead of negotiating a REASONABLE price I can guarantee you they simply asked for something 4-5 times more than any company would pay for the IP etc. Then when the negotiators wouldn't meet their ludicrous prices - they ceased negotiations.

Not precisely true; they may also have had a deadline as to when they were going to stop considering offers. It's possible no hard offer came in by their deadline. However, that amounts to placing a high value on their time and sends an even worse "you're not worth our time and effort" message than placing a high value on their assets. So to me assuming they overpriced the IP/accounts/etc is the charitable estimation.

It might have left some people playing other NCSoft games that they'll now quit.

But even that's a stretch. I'm glad they came out and said it.

Now all we have left is the hope that someone reengineers it and gets it running on private servers. However, I suspect that the probability of that actually occurring is very low.

Be well, people of CoH.

While this still isn't the answer that we'd like, I highly suspect that some of the geniuses that have engineered a great many valuable tools for out community may be quite capable of emulating our beloved game.

There are facets of it (at the very least) that they had already been working on (before the surprise announcement on August 31) for completely different reasons.
To what extents they have already reached and how successful of an emulator it may become? I honestly have no idea. However, I definitely would side my bet with those coders on reverse engineering, and such.

Other people have done it for other games. I imagine that our gifted people are more than capable.

Again, this is not what I still want to see happen.
However, I expect, at worst case scenario, emulation is almost a lock (barring major problems from cease and desist orders and legal ramifications).

I think it's ridiculous to think this is a new development. It's a polite way of saying "will you people just shut up?"

When NCSoft said they were shutting down the game, they didn't say it was for sale. They said they were shutting it down.

We said "we don't think so."

Now they're saying "no, really, we are shutting it down."

Uh huh.

I think our response ought to be "No, really, we don't think so."
