Question: What powers do you want Alternate animations for?
Oh and for the love of Monte Cristo, Shatter Armor needs to have a different animation from Shatter. Why not the Clobber or Jawbreaker animations (or both!), since they're the only ST Mace attacks VEATs don't get? After all, VEATs are the only ones who can get Shatter Armor.
Issue 16 made me feel like this.

A lot of these have been posted already, but consensus is good, yes?
I made a list as things occurred to me while reading the posts before mine, so it's a bit disjointed.
- I don't like the current animations for Barb Swipe and Impale.
- A different animation for tough would be nice. I would especially like to not make the odd girly grunt/shriek noise female characters make every time I zone.
- Ice armor could use a going-over. Stone tankers have been out of their poo cages for years, but ice tankers are still cube'd.
- A gun option for blast sets would be great.
- The random pulsing of Charged Armor and the pulsing lines of Sonic Dispersion give me migraines. The fix to the smaller shields stopped me from getting headaches from those, so hopefully something similar could be done.
- Dark blast could still be thematic if we were allowed to color it white. Bright light makes seeing as difficult as shadows do. There's even some precedent in Soul Mastery.
- As a lot of people have mentioned, the option to have all-weapon or no-weapon elemental melee sets would be appreciated. Also, metallic stone melee would be pretty cool.
- Weapon-wise, having a normal run animation when a female characters is holding a weapon would make me very happy. Broad sword, axe and mace would look better to me if the weapons were wielded with both hands.
- Lastly, I would love to have an option to select one of the new flight poses as a default.
Sonic Blast: Animations that shoot it out of the hands. (For conceptual reasons of the character having a hand-held device to shoot the blasts)
Fiery Melee: Alternate animations for the Fire Sword powers that don't use a sword. Alternate animations for non-weapon powers to use a Fire Sword.
Ice Melee: Same thing as Fiery Melee.
Stone Melee: Same thing as Fiery Melee.
Mastermind summon powers: It'd be great if we could choose which way the pets make their entrance. For example, Bots: Minions drop from the sky in boxes, Lts. rise from the ground with robotoic claws carrying them out, and the Boss Rockets down from the sky. It's be awesome if we could pick each tier pet to have any one of those three animations.
Edit: And I agree with also being able to hold one-handed weapons with both hands (Would be great for a Mace character using a baseball bat) as well as being able to pick the flight emotes to be Fly's default animation.

- Gravity Control. Can we please, please, please, please have the "flip you in the air" animation from Ghost Widow's hold ("Soul Storm"?) as an alternative for Gravity's hold, but without the glowing "eels"? Can you imagine how epic it would look to use that animation in the AoE hold power? - Traps, Devices. I would love a reskin that is "magical" looking instead of mechanical, featuring glowing orbs, arcane circles, and magical crystals. And perhaps one that has a 'tiki' look as well. - Hasten. No graphics option. |
Holy Jeebus Another Edit:
It'd be awesome if Eviscerate for Claws could be given a slower cross-slash animation similar to Vengeful Slice from Dual Blades. So long as the character doesn't do the crazy backflip.

Ooo ooo yes, this. Being able to grab in-game critters would be a very happy alternative to full customization.
Admittedly, I think it's out of scale with the current discussion, but very much would love this. Especially if we can have some heroic options, now that we can have blueside MMs.

I think some new animations for the old school blasts would be nice.
Energy, Fire, Rad, Ice, Dark etc, all share the same old animations and it would be nice if we had some cooler alternatives. I mean there are about 5 or 6 animations which are used for pretty much all the sets.
If you gave additional variations, then all the old school blast sets could be applicable to use them, and possibly even more.
Now that, is bang for your buck ;-)

One problem I see with people wanting elemental swords across the board is that those skills generally have lethal/elemental damage components, while other attacks have smashing/elemental. I don't think that a sword for every attack makes sense, nor do I feel that an animation that does smashing/elemental should have the ability to animate as a bladed weapon.
Anything that's pure elemental damage, like Scorch, Incinerate, or Freezing Touch can be whatever fits. However, elemental swords that deal smashing/energy or smashing/negative sounds like a terrible idea.
And Thug MM's are still tipping the left gun over to one side. That's a bug, right?

I use the costume face part called (I think) Reaver; it looks like a grill so I can at least rationalize that's where the fire is coming from.

I'd love an option for most blast powers to emanate from one hand. As an example, being able to shoot Fire Blast entirely from your left hand. Not just for Robotic Arm 3, but also for weapon-using scrappers who want to squeeze off a shot with their off-hand and such. These alt animations could all be the same between blast sets and I'd be happy. The projectile and animation times would make them unique enough.
Something new for Total Focus, please? Even just a mirror of KO Blow would be fine. The long jumping in the air bit just looks silly.
Fire and Ice Melee: Sword attacks for every strike. Obviously Fire Breath can't be a sword (although if I could shoot the fire out of my palm, that'd be super sweet), but I'd love it if all the other melee attacks could use repurposed sword strikes from other sets.
Those are all "easy" suggestions, since you can filch animations from other sets and save some time, but now I'm going to ask for a pony. Weapons for blast sets! Like, magic wands and ray guns, so we can get our Captain Cold on. Man, I'd buy a full retail expansion just to be able to use Energy Blast with a laser gun. Seriously.

For instance, I'd love to see each Fire Melee attack have three options: a flaming punch, a flaming kick, and a fire sword attack. Same with Ice Melee, and at least the kick option for Energy Melee.
And my biggest request:
- Actual claw animations for Claws. As in, fingertip claws instead of wrist mounted claws. All the catgirl / werewolf / lizard person / anything else that's not a Wolverine clone claw users will thank you.

1) Thunderous Blast and all variants thereof, including Energy Transfer.
2) Blazing Bolt. In fact the option to use the manga power buildup like Blazing Bolt currently has or the fist out blast of doom animation for all snipes would be quite acceptable and not require a new animation from scratch.

4) Total Focus and variants thereof. An animation that fits the required time window but did not require leaping off the ground and exposing one's choice of undergarments to your teammates would be nice. I understand that this is considered a strength of the power in some circles but an alternate animation would be welcome.

6) Shadow Maul. I am not sure how you would go about this one considering the requirements for both an eternity of animation time and four ticks of damage but...

I've heard suggestions for alternate animations for the breath attacks that don't come from the mouth. I'd also suggest alternate animations for the rest of the attacks that *do* come from the mouth (i.e. shooting a fireball from the mouth, a focused breath of cold that freezes the foe in a block of ice, etc).
It'd be useful for any mutant/dragon/Naruto ninja characters people might be interested in making (I have a dragon like that who can shoot stuff out of his mouth. thankfully, he's a brute and he can use the 2 cones in the Mako pool for that part of his concept).
Animated faces (that open their mouths for such attacks) would be nice as well but not holding my breath (*nudge*)
Fire Assault: Some Firesword options for the melee attacks would be awesome.
Radiation Emission/Empathy: I'd love some sort of change, whether it be animation or just sound effects, that differentiates Healing Aura from Radiant Aura. At the moment, they are the exact same animation and sound-wise. Maybe something for Radiant Aura involving the particle effects in other Rad Emission skills or Rad Blast attacks?
Tough and similar animated powers: Please remove the /tarzan from these powers or give us a different option. It's hugely concept breaking when my elite soldier starts pounding his chest and screams like an idiot.
Teleport: It popped into my mind that the smoke clouds used it /e alakazamreact and /cce prestochango would be perfect as an alternative teleport.
Thunderous Blast: From what I've seen, Electric Blast's Tier 9 looks a little... lame. However, giving its AoE splash the same animation Lightning Rod has would turn it from "meh" to "AWESOMEZ!"
Broadsword: This set really needs some love. Really badly. I'd love to see some animations that look quicker but are really just more elaborate rather than looking like you're swinging Excalibur with the stone still attached. I so badly want new Broadsword animations, I'm even listing them individually!
Two-handed options for Broadsword would be awesome, but I don't see that happening.
Slash - A quick diagonal slash would be a nice change, though any other direction would work too. Maybe throw in some flashiness, but the animation time is kind of short.
Hack - Not sure here, I still want a downward strike personally, just something that doesn't look so... slow. Perhaps some sort of "I'm about to hack you!" pose and then a much faster strike? Ferocious Strike from Gladiators/Templar in Aion comes to mind.
Slice - I mainly hate the "gotta get my balance back" movement at the end that at least feels like it makes up half the animation. Beyond that, perhaps the character could spin and then slice for a flashier look? Heck, I can even see them doing a spinning jump, slash as they land in a crouch with some sort of semi-dramatic/dramatic pose before standing.
Parry - I'm envisioning an overhead block with the sword held horizontal, followed by either a quick downward slash or a stab to the gut, whichever looks better. For flashier, perhaps overhead block, quick spin and gut thrust or half-spin with a backwards thrust? Similar to Parrying Strike for Chanters in Aion, except with a sword instead of a staff.
Confront - Dual Blades taunt animation please! In fact, give Katana the same one too! It'd be perfect with the two bladed sets!
Whirling Sword - How 'bout a Zelda-style spin attack? Maybe spin twice to make up for the animation length without making it look lethargic?
Disembowel - The existing animation is probably one of BS's better ones, but doesn't look entirely like a Disembowel. I'd say start by sticking the sword in the opponent's gut (assuming the enemy is using a human-like model and other characters are of about even size). Since we need to include a knock-up effect, then we can have the character yank the sword straight up to pull it out. The ending result in my mind kind of looks like the Climhazzard animation from FF7.
Headsplitter - Well, a two-handed above-the-head blow is out. Well, maybe if he cupped his other fist around the first it could work, but I don't know if that'd look good. Another ideal would be an aerial jump attack, whether it be a more basic one like Katana's tier 9 or a more flashy one that involves flipping or something and then bringing the blade down on the enemy as you land? I don't remember the name of the skill, but Templar in Aion on their third chain skill for Ferocious Strike chain have a sweet jumping attack with the sword that'd look awesome for this move. I'll get the name next time I log into that character...

- For the love of god, everyone gets Sands of Mu for a vet power. Let my Dark Melee character look original.
- Midnight Grasp also needs attention and it might be the most boring tier 9 attack available. I really like the idea of stomping the ground and creating an upwelling of negative energy and GOOD LOOKING tentacles of doom. Please port any improvements to the tentacle animation over to any other sets that use them (Teneborous Tentacles for example).
- All of the leaping animations (Fissure, Total Focus, Thunder Strike) could really use something other than that lame and ponderous leap intro the air.
- Would love you guys forever if Archery could shoot energy blades, or thorny roses instead of those terrible looking arrows.
Ninja Run. I would've bought the pack if I didn't have to hunch over all the time.

Different Whirling "X" animation!
The suggestion for the whirlwind animation is awesome, but in addition/instead, I'd like to see the Dragon Tail animation available for the weapon sets: One arm would have to be raised and a weapon put in it.
Even better still would be some form of a weapon strike where the weapon travels ina large double-loop figure eight sort of path but the character itself does not spin around.
For broadsword, PLEASE make some alternate animations based upon Lichtenaur sowrd-fighint, especially the moves performed with a buckler:

I think you guys may want to plan something for KA too. The videos make the power animations look long and flowing. I am betting people will want something more direct before it is over with.
Fire: I skip this power set because of my extreme hate for BoF. All of my powers come from my hands except that one.

I HATE the throbbing dildoes of doom, and won't use powers with them in it.
A foot stomp and some kind of a energy bear-trap would be awesome. Give it a stone, metal, and bone variation for more flexibility, pls.
Or, instead of the intrusive tentacles of hentai horror, how about arms? Like the zombie or demon arm animations already in game? That'd be appropriately icky.
Ninja Run:
Do my toons REALLY have to flaunt their buttocks at me?

I'd much prefer a "Usain Bolt hammerin' down a record" style run animation, upright, both arms workin' at full bore, than the current...bendy...pose.
Also, when stopped, it would be cool if a toon with Ninja Run would stand upright, but do that 'Bruce Lee' ready for action stance, up on the toes, hoppin' from left syance to right stance every now and then.
