Quote:That was the first thing I tried. I think the USB controller on the board was bad though, perhaps from power outages.Try something for me.
Try disconnecting the USB headset.
See if it is still unstable.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help. It turns out it was a hardware issue. Truthfully I'm still testing it as we speak, but the motherboard seemed the likely candidate for the problem, seeing as a PC-to-PC network file transfer got hung up, and it's LAN is integrated.
So with a new board in, and a complete Windows reinstall, fingers crossed, I'm dragging her through missions now trying to get it to happen again. No crashes or errors so far! -
Update: This is a lost cause. I fully formatted and reinstalled Windows, the problem persists.
I can't narrow down if its the client or the computer, but I'm really leaning toward the client because I can't make any other program behave this way. -
The error has persisted, until last night. An unprofessional theory is that her network card's drivers were corrupt and causing freezing when heavy packet traffic hit it, then City was simply throwing back whatever error seemed appropriate at the time - since uninstalling the adapter and reinstalling the drivers, the error SEEMS to have gone away.
Will update as needed.
Edit: How we came to the conclusion was that during a routine file transfer from PC to PC (Windows 7) she froze up again during the calculation phase for the transfer. Then she couldn't connect to my PC anymore. This problem disappeared after reinstalling the network card.
Oh, and I transferred my non-crashing game folder to hers, to overwrite her COH directory. I thought maybe I had the magic switch in there somewhere. -
I did start a new thread, just didn't get any help. I was hoping 5 months was under the necro radar :/

After 20 minutes of trying to do what caused tons of crashes last night, I cannot reproduce the problem. Yet.
I'm curious though, if anyone can pick at the dumped logs here and tell me anything. -
I managed to pull something out of the Windows event viewer:

Quote:That helps.L4D2 uses DirectX on Windows computers. CoH is using OpenGL.
Unless you are running on Linux or Mac (which would be useful information to include in the OP), the comparisons are pretty much like the following:
Apples. Oranges.
Windows 7, 8GB RAM, eVGA GTX560. So, PC
Edit: I'm trying to patch information together while I can. Please bear with me, as I'm at work. I'm wondering if anyone's had an incurable pigg error crash problem in the meantime and what drastic things I can do to alleviate it. -
Will do. I didn't initially because I've been trying to get a sense of whether or not the problem is beyond just her lately. I've never struggled with a problem like this before, and it's pretty bizarre. Looking for a support group
I have narrowed it down to the game itself, I believe. I did a memory test (0 errors) and a chkdsk (no bad sectors) and a burn-in stress test (no internal combustion there) and played L4D2 for a while to see if I could get any sort of similar problem. I think I'm dealing with a client issue/conflict.
I'm at work now, will look into Helper and HijackThis when I get home tonight. -
My girlfriend's computer is relatively new, and has been experiencing this error. I've seen a few posts for it in the past, no method to "fix" in recent months on these boards has corrected her issue yet.
Things I have done include updated all drivers (Graphics, Audio, Chipset) I've deleted the COH directory entirely and had it redownload everything, just deleted the PIGG folder to have that redownload, done consistency checks, turned off all services in the background that could interfere, I've even used Blue Union's method to increase the game's memory allotment up to 3GB. But it freezes and PIGG-error-crashes around 1.1GB of memory in the task manager (In RWZ especially) and there's a sound loop before it, sometimes.
I can go into specifics, and I intend to, but I really want to get some consensus on how many of you other folks are running into the same problem and what you've done to fix it. -
In a darkly lit room, Brianna Volpe stood and watched as the Taproot Network dripped blood on parchment, tracking its targets. Kevin DeSantis sat in the corner of the room, huddled in a pile of bloody organic matter, reconstituting after his fight with Sovereign.
"Slaphappy... where the hell are they taking you?" she wondered aloud.
First Victim simply grinned weakly and uttered. "This should be good..." he laughed softly and slipped back into unconsciousness. -
Spoilers!
So Statesman is dead, and let's assume Psyche is really gone too. Thanks to that coding flub in SSA6 where Penny's pet is part of the Freedom Phalanx, we can assume Penny Yin is taking over for Psyche. Makes sense, Psychic to Psychic transition, nothing really has to change in the TF aside from sparse personalizations.
Positron will likely be liberating his spot to ascend to Statesman's place in the game. He may liberate that TF spot, making it the player-contest winner's prize.
Manticore is now the wildcard - with Psyche dead, (Or my new favorite theory, she's mind-riding Manticore because you never see Wade explicitly take her powers, because the writer's ninja'd that bit in at the end of SSA6 as an assumption on behalf of the contact), either way he's not going to be himself anymore. I can see him going *actual* Vigilante instead of "Badboy statue in Brickstown who dislikes Crey", opening up more alignment stuff as you either help or hunt him. Or just MIA while the Psyche problem works itself out.
Who would fill in for Manticore?
With the recent slew of animal themed stuff, including the vanity pets and beast summoning, and Galaxy turned in to the new Tutorial, I think we should bring back Coyote from the old tutorial, give him Beast Summoning and the coyote travel power, and have him take over for Manticore.
Really, how cool would that be?
Would love to hear some discussion on the future of the Phalanx.
P.S. I don't post here often, be gentle! -
I'd like to make a concerned plea to please update and enhance the legacy textures as well.
I understand that a lot of the things you now exchange for points look much better than the legacy content, for well, obvious reasons. But some good patterns and textures for spandex look awful nowadays - Blast, Camo Paint, Cellular, and Patterns 1-6, for instance, look blurry and aliased. Unless I make a toon called 'Blurry JPG' I probably won't use them much.
In regards to what I'd want for Golden/Silver age, the less elaborate and bulky, the better. I'm taking Ascension sets as the end of the spectrum in bulkiness, and hoping we can have some new boots/belt/gloves/shoulders/BACKPACKS that don't make us look like techno-juggernauts. (Much as I love Celestial, Imperial, and Resistance, their pieces add like 100 pounds to my character's percieved weight!)
Simple, varied pieces would suit me better. Oh, and some scabbards, holsters, and quivers for all that's good in the world - golden/silver age heroes would be less likely to pull their weapon from Hammerspace! -
Stone Armor / Ice Melee tank.
That's, to date, the hardest thing I've ever done. But YMMV. -
I'm running a GTX260 and recently updated my drivers to the as-of-this-post most current drivers, 285.62 - WHQL.
The game now slideshows in circumstances where multiple players ( < 8 ) are firing off powers. I thought perhaps my card was dying, but rolled back the drivers to 266.58 and everything runs smooth under the same circumstances.
I'm hoping anyone else who patrols these forums can help me corroborate that this is an application-specific issue with the drivers, as my other games were not affected, ruling out the card for the moment. -
I think Je is right.
The Longbow Eagle is the anchor on the platform, so to speak. The engine just can't place a group like that without the arrangement getting muddled, unless they're all arranged in relation to the anchor, and that's where the Longbow Eagle comes in. Presumably, the specialty AVs can't be anchors, but only anchored to others. *shrugs* I'm no code monkey.
He's the rock the team is built on! -
It did persist after the latest driver update.
-
Okay, so I don't have a game-breaking bug, or anything. But I have noticed a change in the way my graphics behave, albeit slightly. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue.
I regularly team with a Dark Armor scrapper. Whenever she shows up from off screen, her toggles show up as solid colors, like the particle animations overlapped themselves off-screen. It also happens with Super Speed, I've noticed.
To further explain, you know when you stand in front of someone who has toggled, say, Steamy Mist, and go into the enhancement screen, and when you exit the enhancement screen you see 20 seconds overlapping particle effects and then it catches up? With certain powers I'm seeing this regularly, but only when people enter my field of view from off screen.
It's such a narrow issue I can't start to point a finger at my video card - to think that just particle effects are acting wacky and nothing else is bizarre. So I'm really just asking if anyone can visualize what I'm walking about and then confirming whether or not I'm alone in my issue. Then I start trying to track the bug locally if I think it's specific.
BTW, it's an nVidia card, GTX260. -
Cuda, because so rarely does anyone "volunteer" for a stalker to kill the relentless 5th Zerglings.
Numina, because of zone events wrecking my hunts.
Mender Silos, if that counts, because the phrase "Mendacious Man" referring to Manticore is quite flatly the dumbest thing I've ever seen in this game.
Justin Augustine because of the completely boring Circle "AVs" which are just regular mages with AV hit points. Yawn. -
I bugged em all in game, because AFAIK they were ALL saying to go see Mistral.
-
Has nobody suggested "Jaegermeister" yet? 1,000 Jaegers for that one. I'd LOL for a week.
Text: "Your fans and comrades know you have no love for Nemesis, and took the time to bust up over a thousand of these silly brass toilets to prove it."
200 Knives of Artemis: "Bloody Footed"
Text: "You now pack extra shoes when sent after the Sisterhood." -
Quote:Oh, that's dirty, man.Nothing to see here, move along everyone.
Castle himself has already promised he would look at this and reduce the 5 second animation to 1.5 seconds right after Christmas break.
Unless you didn't see that Castle's last day is the 24th of December?
