Like all other weapon sets, you get to pick one weapon model per costume slot. The models are the same as the plasma rifle set PLUS a few new ones that are pretty amazing looking. No laser pistols though.

Quote:He's still alive in the comics. He is/was an X-Factor member. Also, he didn't die in the movie. He literally cannot die, disintegrating just... disperses him for a while (happened in the comics). I was really interested to see what they did with him in a combat situation but alas, not in this movie. It depends...
As far as Darwin... I thought he had interesting power concept that they could have played with and since he i guess died in the comics they could have done more with him without making fans as mad. I hadn't heard of him before now either...just seems like a character you wouldn't kill off. -

This thread doesn't contain double-rainbows, as I was expecting.
<sad panda> -
Ran this just the other day with SG mates. As frustrating as the encounter is, that just adds unneeded insult to injury. An airstrike hitting underground makes NO sense.

My first thought was "What, are we Sand people now?" It would have actually worked pretty well as an April Fool's-style joke, released as an official tip/strategy. I would have laughed if an entire BAF had tried to proceed in single-file from spawn to spawn. Heh.
It wasn't about the joke being good or bad it was just so... random and out of place. I mean, I'll be the first to love a good Star Wars reference, but... it seemed so official! :P -
So... am I the only one completely thrown by this statement?
"The trick is to travel in single file, to hide your numbers from the scaling AI."
Wait, what? There's not been a SINGLE trial I've been on that has mentioned this technique. It doesn't even make sense. Anyone have light to shed on the subject? -
Quote:I read the OP similarly, with the second half of his post (possibly) reading more like, "You devs gaffed in i20 (without saying what the gaffes are) and you'll be addressing this in the next issue. Please let me know when this issue will be released that contains the fixes to said gaffes."What? What does the first half of your post have to do with the second half?
The impression I get is "Remember when issue 6 came out, and Jack Emmert made a gaffe, and then it took 7 months for issue 7 to come out?
"Well, with that in mind, please tell me everything that's being worked on now and when it will go live."
BTW, I really like that word.
Gaffes.
That is all. -
I may or may not have been on said TF.. I've had it happen to me as well (and I was the PB who "caused" it). Nothing like a cyst spawning with BM and her relentless onslaught of swords to cause a bit of a set back. Their slows can be especially dangerous if you get the entire spawn's aggro.

Quote:I'm not entirely sure how that makes any sense. All zones are in the same world, in the same time (Shadow Shard and Ouroborus aside). Things you do in one zone can and are reflected instantly in another (LGTF spawning a Rikti invasion, Numina's multi-zone hunt, etc). The Apex Task Force doesn't exist only for level 50s, it's simply gated to only Incarnates. Put another way... I could take my level 1 newb character through ALL of the zones, stand him beside Apex and request to take part in his TF (and get laughed at, of course)... It's happening "now," I'm just too weak to help out. The destruction is happening "now," the zones just haven't been changed to reflect that.Of course it doesn't stick. As it stands now, CoH's maps are tied to the level progression.
Those zones being destroyed aren't untill after you would normally be out of those zones, going to bigger threats.
KR is destroyed in Apex...when you're level 50! KR is what you see when you are level 8ish, before you get to level 50 and then see it destroyed.
What would the point be of seeing KR destroyed in Apex, if it was destroyed when you first saw it at lvl 8? -
The closest actual set to Iron Man might actually be a human-only Peacebringer. The problem with that is their complete lack of power customization... makes for a hard time in "RPing" a new/different origin. That said, PBs really do have the necessary melee/ranged/armor mix.
On the other hand, a Traps/Energy Corruptor or Defender might also work. The tech-based primary sorta fits (and might be just different enough to help avoid a mod-smack) and I've always thought energy blasts best fit his repulsors.
My 2 cents. -
Quote:Instanced maps of destruction are all well and good, but it would be AWESOME to actually have the Praetorian war create a visual toll on the zones. Heck, it wouldn't even need to be a HUGE change in some places. Scaffolding putting the big penny back up in KR, craters, cracks and workers in Steel Canyon and Skyway... etc...SPOILERS:
As part of the Praetorian Invasion, Steel Canyon takes heavy damage in i19, as does Skyway in the i20 TF.
Kings and Talos take moderate hits themselves.
These events don't "stick"; Skyway is all fixed again by the time you exit the mission. It's both cool to see the devastation, but at the same time the instancing renders everything pointless and trivial.
They can "destroy" any zone they want. It doesn't mean anything.
.
Here's hoping those fine touches are actually being considered. -
In the southern reaches of Kenya, the cry, 'Cabio Sile Shango' has been echoing from the hills more frequently than superstition or even the most violent thunderstorm should warrant. Gone nearly unnoticed by those dwelling across the ocean, a new and powerful entity has arisen that threatens indiscriminately... and is on the move. The children of Africa all celebrate his departure, but know that it can only mean someone else's demise.
Azuria has been tracking the Africa-born man (if he still is a man) and has grown ever worried. Though agents of the M.A.G.I. have not recovered much information, they do have three facts in hand. First, the man appears to have tapped into a path of the Incarnate some time ago and gained great power, unchecked in his home land. Second, the source of his power appears to have subsided and he is on the hunt for more. Most likely he seeks this power in and around Paragon City where the recent influx of Incarnate power is most tempting. Third and perhaps most chilling of all, his people had named him the "Honey Badger." It is a moniker chosen to reflect his relentless, nearly sociopathic quest for power, with a seeming absence of fear.
Incarnates both hero and villain alike should be wary, for a hunter of Incarnates is at their doorstep.
______
I'll post a screenshot of the costume when I get home from workIf it's not clear, BTW, I envisioned the Honey Badger as an Incarnate of the African god Shango, who has taken his power, consumed all there is to find in Africa and has now become a hunter of young and comparatively weak Incarnates.
Here we go. I actually hopped on Test to use the Animal Pack that was being tested there. Here are a couple of action shots as I was playing around:
I'm not sure the lion head is really the best head to use for the concept, but those teeth do seem indicative of "ruthless." I really wish there were more tribal-style themes available, as I would have happily/easily made a costume surrounding the tribal shield. -
Quote:A thousand internets to you sir/madam. Though I have to agree with others in that thread, adding even more currency items is starting to get silly. Before long, this is going to be back to the base salvage lunacy.
The powers themselves look cool though.
Quote:It seems that as the Well is empowering Tyrant, and Tyrant is passing that power onto his armies, a shadow/reflection of these Incarnate-empowered enemies returns to the Well once they're defeated. -
Okay, weird... So they aren't even Praetorians at all, but more like the reflections in the Shadow Shard? I... don't know if that makes the Lore pets more or less broad a theme that I originally thought.
Also... is this what's on Test now? That's the Incarnate powers menu, and I'd DEARLY love to see what the other powers look like (mostly Interface and Destiny)... -
Quote:I've seen this tidbit before, but... is this fact? I don't recall seeing that from the Lore leaks...The pets are the essence of defeated enmies that you draw from the Well - if the only essence that cna be drawn from the Well is from Incarnate powered enemies, then you're only going to get Praetorian options, as they're the only Incarnate powered enemies we've fought so far - unless you want a Statesman/Recluse/Reichsman pet too
-
Quote:For me, it's entirely because they're Praetorian NPCs. Granted, we don't know how the pets are going to be worked into the Incarnate lore... but as it stands, ONLY Praetorian pets makes NO sense. It's also very strange that when it's been explicitly stated over and over that costumes/auras/powersets are designed to cover as wide a range of concepts as possible, the DEVs would then choose to lock ALL Incarnate players into one very narrow concept. Yes, the entire Incarnate system is narrow-ish (all stemming from the Well), but can at least be applied to any given character.Sure, if you want to delay the Lore slot for God-knows however long it'll take to implement that. If those features weren't difficult to properly implement, don't you think Masterminds would've already had them?
You can't just cut and paste part of one system (for example: the character creator or custom critter interface found in the MA) into another system (say, Mastermind pets) and expect everything to jibe. Hell, the devs tried to get MM pet customization going back when they were putting power customization together and couldn't get it to work right.
Sadly, I think the Lore pets issue really isn't about them being Praetorian NPCs as much as it is players expecting - DEMANDING, in some cases - far too much without realizing the work that must be put into things, or the limitations that the developers might face when attempting to do certain things. As I pointed out earlier, even if the devs were to change the Lore pets into something else, what would they change them into? Would it even be possible for them to come up with alternatives that satisfied a large portion of the playerbase?
What exactly will my ancient sorcerer, enhanced Lich or death god call on for a pet... that makes any sense at all to lolRP? Sure, no NPC concept is going to cover everything, but the "broad themes" designs used for costumes and powers really should be coming into play in the Incarnate system as well.
Praetorians. Are. Narrow. -
The pet was also added before the cottage rule was really on the scene. Wormhole also used to be single target... (back when I rolled my grav/storm)... now imagine THAT power set.
I like the idea of an "area of chaos" but feel that intangibility shouldn't be in there at all. I know it's probably there to exploit a "loophole" in the cottage rule, but... the only thing worse than an AOE intangibility power is a random AOE intangibility power. -
Honestly, I've given up entirely on GMs. I remember getting prompt response for emergencies back "in the day," but now... there just isn't that kind of in-game presence anymore.

Quote:I can attest to that working really well. We did that on my master run (I was one of two tanks). If the tank(s) simply goes left (from the entrance of the mission) along the catwalks and head to the closest choke-point, all of the ambushes will spend their time trying to get to you.If i'm around I still need the badge on Malkore. Also, I'v heard oro'ing out of the mishy and then fighting your way safely back to AV following each ambush is the way to go
All of the squishies stayed by the door, around the corner and out of LOS, popping around only long enough to buff/debuff and the going back to hiding. The mobs will be FAR over the aggro cap, so keeping squishies out of LOS is a must.
The only real danger of using that particular choke point is that you can get pushed off the edge in a spot or two. Having someone to port you back up (one of the squishies) would help.
I'd love to help with this myself, but that's a tad too early for me (in CA here). Good luck to you! -
Exactly. I saw this and instantly thought, "Why is Google allowed to do this exactly?" I mean, it's not Google, but functionally wouldn't it be doing something very similar? I don't see the technical marvel here.
-
Quote:Bah, even posting about someone else talking about comparisons isn't allowed? I need to brush up on these rules, apparently. <ponders a way to better structure the post> Hmmm... not sure that's 100% better, but... OP updated.Mod5 nuked a thread about My Little Pony, which was nominally allowed by the forum rules. This thread is specifically disallowed by the forum rules...
...yeah. I'm done here. Never mind me.

Yahtzee has never been one to delve into all that makes a MMORPG tick, but has mentioned WoW and CoH in passing before. I think his previous reviews have all have more touched on the issues of MMORPG's in general and have little to do with the actual strengths or weaknesses of a given game, though I could be wrong...
Now, he's reviewing one of the more recent additions to the MMORPG arena and (shockingly) rips it a new one. Not having checked out this new game, I don't know if it's a truly accurate assessment or not, but... his reviews are at least good for a laugh. Check it out here.
