Yahtzee Review of [Competition]

Yahtzee has never been one to delve into all that makes a MMORPG tick, but has mentioned WoW and CoH in passing before. I think his previous reviews have all have more touched on the issues of MMORPG's in general and have little to do with the actual strengths or weaknesses of a given game, though I could be wrong...

Now, he's reviewing one of the more recent additions to the MMORPG arena and (shockingly) rips it a new one. Not having checked out this new game, I don't know if it's a truly accurate assessment or not, but... his reviews are at least good for a laugh. Check it out here.

You'd think that would happen instantly. But if this thread is basically pro-CoH (I haven't looked at the video yet to be honest) you'd be amazed how likely the Mods will "look the other way" on this.

He does mention our favorite superhero MMO quite favorably in comparison early on, particularly in terms of character creation.

Mod5 nuked a thread about My Little Pony, which was nominally allowed by the forum rules. This thread is specifically disallowed by the forum rules...

...yeah. I'm done here. Never mind me.

Bah, even posting about someone else talking about comparisons isn't allowed? I need to brush up on these rules, apparently. <ponders a way to better structure the post> Hmmm... not sure that's 100% better, but... OP updated.

<runs away>

We're not allowed either to make comparisons or mention other video games, which makes phrasing posts a delicate matter. Perhaps if quotes from Yahtzee could be extracted about gaming issues presented to the sub-genre of superhero MMORPGs the thread might be allowed to stand.

If not, forum shibboleths require us to post as though video game competition online, much less direct competition upcoming online, does not exist.

I found the Y dude, oddly rude and rather funny. I stopped paying attention to what Said Y dude was talking about and just listened to what he was saying... call me an OxyZombie.... But never mind move along nothing to see here – Move along

I laughed embarrasingly hard at the "Midlife Infinite Crisis" joke.

I started pondering the possibilities of a Faith No More parody.

Meh, I guess it's a good few points towards CoH, but EyeBeeTeeBeeJayEyeSee

Well done. I hope he would do a review of our game sometime in the future with the GR expansion etal.

Right. After all, they've lasted seven plus years and... wait, no they haven't. Or are you looking at the original "ooh, new, shiny" population spike and labeling it "doooooom?"

I was particularly amused by this comment concerning [Competition], despite the fact that I haven't played it.
Note: Rated PG-13 for language.

I knew everything I needed to know about [Competition] when I saw they didn't even have invulnerability in the game. Really? No invulnerability in a superhero game? That Superman features prominently in? Who has invulnerability?

Fail.

I will say this though: their graphics look good and perform really well. That's what a really good engine can do for you.

The thread was clearly deleted either a mod who is also 4channer from /co/ (the comic books and cartoons board) tired of seeing My Little Pony threads everywhere, or was regularly left only the My Little Pony growing up instead of the cooler toys.

He said it was unrelated to Comics or Hero/Villain culture. I sent him a PM pointing out that the original cartoon was produced at least in part by Marvel, and that they published a comic for it in the mid 80s that ran for a few years, and that more recently Tokyopop published a limited series of comics/manga for it. But since when has being wrong ever stopped moderators before?

Ya, I sent one as well, quoting the description of the forum itself and Rule 8. MLP is clearly within the bounds of discussibility. In particular, it would be permitted, IMO, under the "action figures" and "your favorite characters".

Got no response and I forgot to put a Read Receipt on it. >.<

I stopped at my public library this evening and ended up watching this. I had a very tough time not laughing so hard I would fall out of the chair. I had to pause it to catch my breath so I wouldn't snort while trying to suppress my laughter or feel the wrath of the people sitting at the next computer.
