Speaking of, I ran an MoSTF last weekend with a particularly good traps/ice defender. Thorn tree got one of our blasters, so when it came time for taking Aeon out, we kind of ran in 4 directions killing security chiefs as we felt like doing (Project Masters failed, so revert to normal DKTF rules). The resulting chaos and seemingly endless ambushes were a ton of fun.

Anyway, to the point of the story and to finish this little threadjack, I was tanking Wretch, I think, when I noticed the ambush text. Before I could get to the door, the trapfender already had caltrops in the doorway and an Ice Storm in the room the ambush was trapped in.

Our AR blaster proceeded to mop the room up posthaste with an ignite patch and a heavy dose of lead poisoning.

I never objected to "sb plz" - its quick to type and saves me watching everyone's tiny little buff icons. And it does have a please in there.
I'd usually start each mission saying to remind me if it drops and anyone needs refreshing, if anyone doesn't want it, and try to keep it up on the people who didn't say no. I play Kinetics when I want to be busy.

I really wouldn't care for a "thanks" or "thx" every two minutes from everyone. Thats about as interesting as a team where everyone just says "gratz" once per level.

In-character appreciation of buffs is always welcome. What would you say if you could suddenly run at 60mph?

/macro PLZ say "SB PLZ"

/macro THX say "THX 4 SB"

Move both buttons as required around your normal buttons and click repeatedly (as you need to grab attention, fill up the chat window!) when necessary.

If you like, make extra buttons with different requests and thank you messages to vary up your routine (and to stop your teammate from thinking you have it on bind). :3

If I'm running a team and invite a kin, it's with the assumption that speed boost will be part of the package (assuming we're high enough level that it's available). If they have it and aren't using it, I'll usually ask them to. If they continue not to use it, or cop an attitude about it, I kick them.

This. I really don't mind playing as a support character, Kin is a set that I like to play because not only do teams love having them but you boost your own effiency as well so it's win-win. Until SB comes along. Kin is a click-heavy set and once slotted up, theres always something to do and be using. Fitting in SB isn't usually high on the list of priorities, with the exception of hard fights and teammates who really rely on it. I toss it out as I can and most teams are fine with that. Theres always the one ****-head, though, that absolutely demands it the second the mission starts and every time it wears off. Then I'll make it a point to keep everyone SBed except said ****-head.

SB is a nice power yes but i dont expect to be thanked every time i throw it out. I try and keep the main melee toon SB'd and throw it out when i get chance on the other members of the team but when you're throwing out cages and FS sometimes it gets a bit hectic. If someone asks for it i hit em with it at the first available opportunity. If i get thanked thats cool but i dont NEED thanks for doing what my toon is built for.

Only one thing about sb i don't like too much is when you get people who keep saying "sbsbsbsbsbsbsbsbsbsbsbsb" in the chat window and then rant at how slow i am in hitting em with it. If im in the middle of locking down and FS'ing a mob would you rather wait the 10 secs so i could finish the manoeuvre and THEN sb you or switch targets and lose out on the nice large FS amount youd get? One guy even kicked me from his team because i didn't sb him within 5 secs of his asking (he was the other side of the room in scrapperlock at the time)

guess what im trying to say is it's a power like any other, use it when you can or when your asked and don't expect a ty all the time. TY for a sb is a bonus but i prefer getting a good job to the entire team when the mish is done

I do try to keep SB up as perma as possible.
To me, that's just one of my jobs as a kin.
Not the ONLY job I have ... But yes, one of them.

You're opinion and mileage may vary.

I do, however, tend to ignore cries for "SB Pls" from the scrapper who is halfway across the map away from the rest of the team.

As an aside ...

I'll never forget the one time I was kicked from a team for not having speedboost.
I was playing a kin troller ... And I was level 16 I believe ... Nowhere near the level 20 I needed to be as a troller to gain access to the power.

"Learn to play a kin and get Speedboost, N00b!" /kick

I was stunned that I got kicked ... but then I LOL'd.

One other thought comes to mind. I rarely even expect Speed Boost from a /Kin, it's just kind of a nice bonus when it comes my way from them ... quite frankly they generally have other more important tasks to focus on. Now a Kin/ I do expect more out of, but I don't get whiny about it if they're lagging behind either.

Wow, what a knucklehead! They'd rather not have it at all, than to wait a bit for it? After reading this thread yesterday, I had a burning desire to play my earth/kin so I logged on and played him. My observations are that soem folks would rather that be all that you do, they wouldn't mind if you did nothing else but follow the team around and keep everyone sb'd, some folks don't care they can take it or leave it.

I got kicked from an ITF once because apparently I wasn't applying SB "right". It was our 4th time trying to take down Rommy, unsuccessfully, and the leader called me an "Idiot", blamed our lack of success on my inability to apply sb "correctly" and kicked me. LOL! I was ready to log anyway, so I just made my personal note for that character (NEVER EVER TEAM W/ AGAIN!) and logged.

I'm not going to thank people for buffs, heals or anything else under normal circumstances. Why? Because it really gets tedious and it trivialises the act of thanking. Now, if I'd asked for a buff (or anything else, such as a wakie), I might say "Ta" the first time, but I'm not going to keep thanking you every time you cast it on me.

What I will thank people for is the exceptional. If I've gone into scrapperlock and gotten well out of my depth, then a defender saves me, I'll thank them for that. If I've pulled too much aggro on my squishies and the tank gets them all off quickly (that is, he actively comes over and helps me), I might thank them for that.

IMO, OP, you expect too much from your team. Sure it wouldn't take long to ask for it and say thanks afterwards, but to repeatedly do so is something I could easily see becoming tedious and annoying.

Speed Boost is pretty much a staple power of the Kinetics set. It's up to you to pick whether you want it or not, but you can't blame others if they assume you have it. On top of that, I feel like it's also your fault for expecting people to ask first. Some people may not want to ask for fear of sounding demanding, and others will get angry. IMHO, I think it's largely your own fault for instigating the problem. Had you SBed the team to begin with, it's likely the whole argument would have never come up in the first place.

That's not to say some people have bad manners about it. That's something you can't fix, but even then, if you don't give them a reason to complain in the first place (lack of SB), then you won't hear the complaints at all.

question to the OP
do you say "thanks" and "please" to the tank at each group of mob he ran into and / or taunted for you to be alive and keep waiting for people to ask you politely to do your job? ^^

cause yes it's your job. no matter if you like it or not, you took a support AT.

i'd love personnally to see seven "thx dude" on my 8man team each time when i hit dominate to mezz a boss but i don't expect it.

come on, it's not a question of good or bad manner at all. when i ask for a sb it's
1/ cause having a /kin in the team and not being SB'ed is like having a desert eagle w/o any bullet
2/cause i know that monitoring seven people for buffing them can be a lot of work and boring (but on the other hand, nobody force anyone in choosing a buffing toon), so it's more for helping the buffer than for annoying him

and that

A character that can't benefit from either +speed, +recharge, +recovery or all three is more often an indication of not pushing the envelope hard enough than of having a good build, in my experience.

I can empathise with it being a tedious buff to keep up for some players and I think not using it 100% of the time because one feels it is tedious is a valid reason. However, to try to legitimise restraint in using it by claiming it's not as good as it really is is rather silly considering the overwhelming amount of evidence that shows otherwise.

As a blaster that loves T9 Nova's I would dissagree. SB allows me to run into a large crowd and drop half of them, stun the other half, pop a pair of blues to keep working and have my end back up fast and then have my Nova back up as quick as possible. Sure, I work fine without the recharge, but with it I'm devastating.
I understand both points. I also understand that when I focus on SBing everyone, I don't spend time tossing out controls/attacks/heals/end recovery/damage buffs. The nuke example is what I was talking about when I said "need the endurance." It really depends on the team situation.

I'm more or less saying that *one* power that, while good, is not the reason I play the set. I bring a lot more to the table than SB. SB takes, at minimum, 21s to cast on a full team (not counting arcanatime) and costs 54.6 endurance total. With a 90s duration, I spend about 20% of my time casting that. That's time that is spent not casting Transference/Transfusion/Siphon Power/Siphon Speed/Fulcrum Shift/Attacks. That also doesn't take into account whether or not the teammate I'm trying to buff is readily available for it. I use SB on teammates, but it's not a priority to me. If I have time while waiting for a spawn to be aggroed, sure, I'll toss it around. But I'm not going to drop everything just to make sure everyone has it all the time.

And I never said anything about characters that can't benefit from it. Of course anyone can benefit from it. But no one should *need* it. (Unless they are part of a team that is specifically built with having one or more SBs available, such as FnF of RO.) If you don't need it and I have other things to do, suffer without it until I have time to give it to you.

If the OP's idea means I don't have to SB people when playing a kin, I think it's an excellent idea.

No, asking you and saying thanks afterwards wouldn't bother me because nine times out of ten I don't want SB.

Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned making the buff longer - 30 mins. I think that's a terrible idea because if someone doesn't want SB for whatever reason - and it's their money so their choice - it puts that char out of action for 30 mins. Right now if a kin accidentally buffs once, it's mildly annoying but easily wait-outable.

I will certainly not say please or thank you for a speed boost. I will not expect any pleases or thanks in return for passing them out either. Under normal circumstances I would not ask for a speed boost because I know that can be annoying and most of the time I am fine without one. The only time I get annoyed at the non-speed boosting kin is when we are in a prolonged fight and my endurance has been bottomed out for the past 2 minutes with no speed boost in sight - then I will think to myself "Man this kin sux! I wish the lead would boot him and get someone useful on the team.".

Yeah, I'd kick any kind of player with such a sense of self importance from my team.

Sort out who likes SB at the start and thank people at the very end when one is logging.

So let me tell you about an experience on recent ITF with a Kin on the team . I was playing my dominator, just hover blasting/controlling away. Not too high mind you-- still in range of speed boost......

Leader sends me a tell: "kill faster." Now this is not seriously said. I know him in RL and he was just joking around but....

I responsed, to my horror, in team chat instead of a tell, "I could if this Kin was doing a better job." And quickly added, "though it might help if I descended a bit."

Leader sent me a tell, "LOL."
No one on team said anything else.
A couple of minutes later, the Kin has dropped from the team and the leader says in team chat, "Guess he didn't like your comment." But, lo and behold! The person's computer had crashed and logged in soon again.

Oh, I had SB the rest of the tf.
