**** NCSOFT. For 7 years, 2 months on approximately the 26th of the month payment for my subscription came out of my bank account. No payment was taken out on August 26th (or 27th, 26th was a Sunday). No explanation, although the announcement that the game was closing came 4 days after that. I can't even fully post in the forums. Don't have access to all of the characters on my account through no fault of my own. I would have GLADLY paid my subscription fee through the closing of the game, BUT THEY WON'T LET ME. And the cutoff is Sep 1st.
Ain't that a *****? This is such a ****** way to end a relationship, it's like ashes in my mouth. I've got tons of screenshots, some of the soundtrack I've picked up here and there, and many, many fond memories...except for the last one.
NCSOFT? **** NCSOFT. I wouldn't care if they put put out a game that paid ME $14.95 a month I wouldn't play it.
Yeah I'm going to miss it, there's a big *** hole in my heart, I am under no illusions that anything we do is going to save the game. And seriously, if it DID come back I'd have reservations about playing it because of the way the **** went down this time.
So I'm out, severing all ties, can't say clean break it's been dragging on for close to 3 weeks now, holding my breath to see if NCSOFT would do the right thing. Anyone with an active account should have VIP access. Why the **** not? It'll mess up the game's economy? In 2.5 months THERE WON'T *BE* ANY GAME!
Whatever. I'm sad, angry, bitter, and bummed out. Probably a lot of others are too. I'm out.
And NO you can't have my stuff. *I* can't even have my stuff, I'm not VIP anymore.
Deuces... -
Quote:As do I. After the announcement and saw that I was no longer VIP I haven't even attempted to log into the game. It would just piss me off further. Since then I've been playing DCUO and really liking it. I can't see playing it as much as I did CoX, there's not that much depth, but it's a welcome diversion. Tried Champions Online and The Secret World, didn't care for either of them. Setup accounts in Dungeons and Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online but havn't spent much time playing those. With a new game out that pretty much kills any chance left...jobs are lost and ncsoft has moved on. Really guys.ts great to be optmistic and all...but im realistic. In my eyes i see this as over.
There's a new one in Steam's Greenlight area called Perpetuum where you operate giant robots either to help a new planet's economy by mining, or defend it by fighting. Has a 15 day free trial, downloaded that last night and will register and play probably tonight, and another one available through Steam, can't remember the exact name, C9 or something. Was just released by Steam's Greenlight program, but looked pretty interesting: Fantasy MMORPG but the class system and the leveling system seemed pretty different.
So yeah, I've accepted the fact that CoX probably won't be coming back. If it does I'll be overjoyed, but my hopes get a little slimmer each day. -
Hyperstrike's words make sense, and I was just about to post an FU message out of frustration and anger. If NCSOFT had announced that the game was ending AND everyone would be a VIP until the end, I think that they would have gotten, at least in my case, a WHOLE lot more respect.
I'm PO'd that they didn't take my last payment in August that was due on the 26th, *5* days before the announcement was made. This left me as a premium player with limited access to the game and the forums, I can't even say goodbye to the game like I would want to.
How would it have hurt them to let everyone be VIP for the last few months? They're not taking payments anyway, they're not losing money in any case. I would have gladly paid my subscription up until the day the servers went dark, but I'm not even given that opportunity.
In the end I feel disrespected. Bottom line is that I feel like NCSOFT doesn't give an F about me, after 7 years, 2 months of taking my money gladly.
But I'll hold my tongue. We'll see what happens. -
Yeah, what difference would it make to let everyone have VIP access to the game until it shuts down? Not like they're losing money or anything.

Quote:I registered and downloaded TSW on Tuesday but didn't log in until Friday night so I'd have plenty of time to play my 3 days worth. Don't think I'll be playing much more.TSW: the concept is nice. The graphics are well-done. Character customization is very limited. When I'm firing at a target it doesn't come across as real life-like. The EULA mandates that you allow PWE to install malware on your hard drive. I'll wait for Marvel Heroes to come out.
Btw signed up for the beta of Marvel Heroes today. I saw an announcement saying they started accepting beta info on 9/6. -
Tried TSW didn't like it. Apparently I got in under the 3 day trial but played it for about 15 minutes. Hated the graphics. I created my character, really limited clothing options, went through the initial cut scenes. Made my way to the first expository NPC and the game froze up on me.
I rebooted and went back to playing DCUO. I *might* try it again tonight but I doubt it. -
No there's nothing GREAT, but I'm facing the reality of the situation. It's really put a bad taste in my mouth. 7 years, 2 months (20 months of those unemployed) I kept 2 subs going. Because THEY didn't take out a payment for August I'm bumped down to premium. Can't post in most of the forums, I won't even log into the game because it would break my heart even more than it is now.
Anyway, I downloaded, through Steam, every F2P game that seemed worth playing. Champions Online, DCUO, LOTRO, DnDO AND I found a 3 day trial to the Secret World. I agree that I'm not paying $60 (although I've seen it as low as $34.99) just yet. I tried C.O. and it still sucks. Somehow my character's auto-run kept coming on, with the default, through 3 logons. Coulda been my fault, but no other game does it. Tried about 1/2 hour of DnDO, made a character, when through the tutorial, not bad. But the biggest surprise was DCUO. I've just finished playing that for 2.5 hours and it didn't suck! It was kinda fun actually.
And I feel guilty as hell. But when I think about it, it's sort of like you find out that your wife, or girlfriend (or husband, or boyfriend) had a terminal disease, 2 months to live, but when you get home from the doctor they tell you they've been cheating on you for years. That's kind of how I feel about the whole CoX situation. *I* didn't do anything wrong, but the game's going away, but I can't even say goodbye properly, post in the forums I want to, play all of my characters, screenshots, etc.
So, yeah, there's nothing out there that can compare to CoX, but it's going away and I don't have a choice in the matter so that's that.
AND I know there are a lot of plans, hopes, wishes and dreams to keep the game going. I've signed every petition, spread the word on FB and Twitter, commented on the CNN website and any other news outlet that ran the story but deep down, in my heart of hearts I don't think it's gonna work. I'll be the first one to eat my words, jump for joy, do cartwheels down the street if it's saved but...
Anyway, going to go try The Secret World, see if maybe that can at least start to fill the void that I feel already. -
I'm hoping they do the right thing and let us ALL be VIP and enjoy the content until they sunset it. What's to loose? They're not charging anything anyway, why not let us enjoy the game while we gan?

Quote:Same here. My billing date is usually on the 26th of the month. The 26th happened to fall on a Sunday this month and there was no attempt to take it out. I started a new job on the 13 so I really didn't notice until I hear the news, logged onto the forum and found out I was no longer VIP. So after 7 years, 2 months I can't even say goodbye the way that I want to. I haven't even logged on because I'm so disgusted.I just feel frustrated by the timing. I let the account lapse at the beginning of June because I knew I was spending the summer traveling around the East Coast, visiting family. I love the game and all but Grandbabies are more important.
I will be back in California in the middle of the month, so I checked in on the 1st to activate, keeping the billing cycle on the beginning of the month. If I had checked in just one day earlier, I would be fine for this month at least.
Just sorta bumming me out that there is no response from anyone official on any of this. I wasn't expecting anything over the weekend, but you'd think they would be okay with accepting money until the game shuts down.
*shrug* -
My first character was named SkyRocker after the handle I've had since the early 90's and my BBS (remember those?) days. He was made late May/early June of 2005. I had a 10 days free trial and it took me about an hour to make this costume (Still takes me about that long if I have a "look" in mind.)
I made him a tanker because the game info on the website said that if you weren't familiar with the game you'd best make a tanker because they could take a lot of punishment. I actually never got him beyond level 10, if that. I joined the game for the social aspect but I created him on the Guardian (or Protector) server not knowing some had more population than others. I got tired of soloing, heard here on the boards that some servers were more popular so I jumped ship and went to Infinity.
My first character there was Dr Feelgoode a dark/emp Defender. Didn't get to far with him either.
Then came El-Tron. My first Elec/Elec Blaster. HE was the first character that really made me feel like a HERO.
I'm ashamed to say that I left him on Infinity at about level 14. The teaming opportunities weren't great, it took me a long time to get to 14. I read in the forums that Freedom was the most highly popular server so I jumped ship and landed there. Made my first, and ONLY, female character, Healina. Guess what AT she was? She's the one in the middle.
My first 50 was on Freedom, took me a while, but this was the character that defined my CoX "life" or "persona" if you will. SkyRocker v.BL (Version BLaster) was supposed to represent SkyRocker a hero who was more or less immortal and could change his powersets to fit whatever situation he found himself in. Of course he had to choose what powerset at the beginning of the night's activities, couldn't change in the middle of a fight, etc. I ended up with SkyRocker v.PB, SkyRocker v.WS, SkyRocker v.TK and so on. But by the time I hit 50 with v.BL I had pretty much migrated to Virtue and spent the next 6 years there.

If you get one from Amazon you don't have to wait to get the actual card do you? You pay your money and get the code, is that how it works?
-
Quote:I'm going to try to hunt down some pre paid game time cards. Gamestop or best buy might have them. I'll start a thread here with the results if I can find any.I guess I'll find out soon when I try. I hoarded a few City of Heroes game codes to use in case of emergency, and this looks like one. I need VIP status so I could post on all the boards and say how sorry I am to see CoH going away.

Sucks for me. They didn't pull the payment that was due on the 26th of August and kicked me down to freemium, I've got no way to make the payment so after 7yrs I'm going to go out with a whimper instead of a bang...
-
Just started a new job on the 13th of August so I didn't know that the payment for CoX that usually comes out on the 26th of every month didn't come out. I read the news about the shutdown while at work on break this Friday reading the forums, I'm sad of course been playing for 7yrs 2mo so naturally I'm bummed. Get home figuring I'm going to spend every second of free time that I have playing.
I go to the forums to see if maybe this is a mistake, joke, hacker, something and find that I can't post. Tells me I'm not a VIP. Check my account, see that a payment came out on July 26th, none for August. Check my bank account to see if maybe there wasn't enough in there (That would have been a few days before payday...), I'd be able to tell by the NSF charges, nothing there. They never tried pulling the finds.
I spent 30 minutes or so looking at my game account, looking for some way to PAY them so I could at least got out with a BANG. Playing this game that I loved enough to play it for over 7 years and THEY WON'T TAKE MY MONEY!
I'm hoping they just say eff it and make everyone VIP's for the last couple of months. I would have gladly paid for the 3 months but this is incredibly frustrating. I missed 2 days of the last days of CoX. I should be PLAYING, not writing this.
GRRRRRRRR, just needed to vent.
Thanks for listening... -
Out of the thousands of great moments the one that springs to mind now is the Cavern of Transcendence I did once with a pug. We finished with literally seconds to spare and everyone just stood around stunned for a minute or two after it was over, hardly believing that we succeded. I compared it to the first Mission Impossible movie to which everyone agreed, and also let everyone know I needed a nap to which everyone sympathized.

I got burnt out a few months ago, yesterday was my first time playing since mid February. My greatest joy in this game is teaming, the second is creating a new character and taking them to 50. I never was too interested in playing 50's, when a character hit 50 they went on the shelf. When they introduced server transfers I'd transfer them to another server to make room for new alts.
I've got 24 50's. I had 2 accounts to hold all of the characters I've made and played. But the new shift to all of the content for the 50's left things pretty bare in the lower levels, sometimes it's very hard to find a team when I'm able to play. I actually let one of my accounts go F2P.
Yesterday I made a new character a Dark/Dark Dominator and I've been having a blast playing him. picked up a few teams and had a great time. I don't usually play during the day so the real test will be this Friday and Saturday night, my usual playing times and see how the teamage works then. I actually transferred my favorite 50 back to Virtue from where he was parked on Freedom, my all human Warshade, I had the most fun taking him to 50 of all my characters. I'm going to give it a shot, if you can't beat 'em join 'em.
I dunno if playing 50's with all the alpha slot jive will ever match the joy I had leveling up characters, hearing the DING, getting new powers and slots (I know that the alpha slot thing is almost the same, but not really) but I'm willing to give it a shot. One of the things that, I think, is the most boring about it is doing the same stuff over and over to get the threads and whatever else you need to fill those slots, but whatever, I'll give it a shot. Maybe I'll end up liking it. -
Yup, that's what it was. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Quote:If it is not a Praetorian, you might also want to check if the account you are inviting has accidentally toggled on some "block SG invites" option. I think the normal hide from invites slash command would block both team and SG invites, but perhaps there is a variant option I have not seen. -
Thanks Addo, Kitty. I'm going to check permissions and make sure they're where they should be. I hadn't logged into that account for months, so maybe something changed.
Thanks again!
Quote:A completely free account (never paid anything) can't be invited to an existing SG and can't create one either, as ElectroKitty suggested. In issue 23 they should be possible to invite.
However, a Premium account (has at least two Paragon reward tokens, indicating they have at least once in the past spent money on subscription or bought points) should work better.
I have a Premium account which is leader of a SG and has successfully invited other characters to that SG, most recently two months ago. The only thing I have noticed as blocked for a Premium character in an existing SG is paying base rent.
Praetorians can't be invited until they leave Praetoria (even if you meet them in Pocket D), could you verify whether that was the problem for you? -
I've searched for this answer a few times but didn't get a definite answer. I had 2 accounts, 1 for 5 years and another for 6 (in June). I have a SG that's just me for all of my alts. I let the younger account go F2P a month or 2 ago because I really wasn't playing those alts all that much. Last night I created my first character since Street Justice came out and AFTER I let the second account lapse.
My usual routine was to create the character, log into my second account, invite new character to SG, provide some Inf and they'd be on their way. Last night I sent invite after invite from the F2P character and they never showed up. The character was of a sufficient level to invite to the SG, I was able to invite the new character to team, and I was able to trade with them to give them Inf, but not invite to the SG.
Anyone got any advice for me?
Thanks! -
Just wanted to say thanks to the OP and the others who offered useful information. I've been using the "2 party" system for a little while now, this refines it a bit and makes it a bit easier to use.
-
I've been playing for about 6.5 years now and one thing that attracted me to the game, and kept me playing was the overall friendliness of the playerbase. One of the things that I got used to was hearing (reading?) GRATZ when I leveled and saying (typing?) it to others who leveled.
Lately though, the GRATZes are few and far in between. Of course I have it bound to a key and whenever I see someone level I hit the key and lately it seems like I'm the only one, and even the person I GRATZ'd usually doesn't reply with a TY or anything else. And it makes me feel a little sad when I level and don't get a GRATZ.
I mean it's not really a big deal, I don't ragequit or make a fuss it just seems strange that after 6 years it seems to have died out, almost as if mostly everyone but me got together and decided, "GRATZes? We don't need no stinkin GRATZes!" or something like that.
Just wanted to throw that out there, see if anyone else had noticed. I *think* one reason is that people are playing a lot more on their 50's and maybe just got out of the habit because 50's don't level? Something like that?
For me, the real thrill of the game has been, next to the teaming, is the leveling up of a new character. Getting new powers, learning how to use them, slot them, etc. I just don't get that satisfaction with the new incarnate stuff. I don't really understand how it works, what salvage to get, what trials give what, etc. That's just me, but I still mostly play characters under 50. -
GRATZ! It's a great feeling, I remember my first 50.

Quote:Pretty sneaky if you ask me. I too, liked having my little "cloud" of pets following me around. I'd pick them to match costume colors (blue/red wisp), character bio/disposition (demon/mekman/rikti monkey), and even included them in some bios (an alien who thinks the rikti monkey is an earth dog, and a demonic gunslinger from the old west who has the dark fairy that protects him in gunfights). They're now only allowing to have one Vet/Vanity pet out at a time. It was in the last Patch Notes, but easy to miss since they stealth edited the change in.
So no I'm not happy about the change, especially if it was to promote their new pets for purchase. I don't see how it could have put that much strain on the servers, I didn't see that many people with them out. -
Quote:I've been on the fence about purchasing this. I did get the Street Justice, and am in the process of leveling up a Time/DP and SJ/?? (brain freeze) characters. The thing is, for me, it's difficult finding teams to level up low level characters with the hours that I play.I officially LOVE Beam Rifle. Disintegrate makes me a happy, happy camper.
the point of this particular thread was to express my joy over it.
Carry on with your lives, or discuss as you will.
But when the time comes to start a new character I'll remember this post!
