Sorry to admit that I have given up, but not just for CoH but all MMO's, unfortunately there isn't a single MMO out there at the moment that holds a candle on COH and I would just be deluding myself trying to get into another mmo at this moment in time.
I still haven't given up hope that in the future that a COH 2 doesn't come to pass and it would most probably take COH 2 and a extremely good community playerbase on par with COH to get me back into a MMO.
You can recreate a MMO but without the awesome COH crowd in it, it might as well be one of those god awful fantasy MMO's knocking about at the moment. -
Quote:That was way down the line for me, I knew the game was in trouble as soon as they hit the switch for Freedom. This is the only thing that I can think of that may have pointed to the game being shut down, but it at least made SOME sense--the amount of people playing the game who spoke only German or French were minuscule.
Like you, OP, I also felt bad for them losing their native language, but I thought it was going to lead to more focused and faster releases in general.
They had a active contingent within my server about 250 loyal and long standing subscribers, when they flipped the switch for Freedom my Global list went from glowing to a very gloomy grey.
Basically these long standing subscribers were dumped in favour of free to play players on the long shot they would provide more monies via the market.
If a more fairer system was implemented in the conversion of the global names this may have kept quite a lot within game, they then would have invested quite a bit on the market, but alas was not given that option -
Still not received mine and should be roughly 4 months worth, has anyone else in the EU received them yet?

Quote:May I recommend Heroes of might and magic to you Samuel, the new expansion pack came out today and also Heroes of might and magic 6 also came out, although it is only download, which is why some people may have missed it.I tried it, but it didn't grab me. I like the Art Style ten times more than brown Diablo 3, but the gameplay bugs me in much the same ways, sadly. I guess I just don't "click" with this sort of game any more. I left not knowing exactly what I wasn't getting, but clearly knowing I wasn't getting something.
The visual designs are decent, though. I especially like the more techy parts, especially the magazine-operated pistolsThe "cannons" are severely disappointing, though. I'd have wanted something with a long barrel like a howitzer (or the Harkonnen), but they went for a more "bombard" look. Same for the "shotgonne." Where's my precision rifle from Torchlight? I like shotguns, sure, but I like rifles, too.
X-Com:- Enemy unknown and Bloodbowl:-Chaos Edition come's out next week which I also recommend.
October the 3rd is also the start of closed Beta for Marvel MMO although you do need to apply on their website to stand a chance of getting an invite.
Pretty spoilt for choice at the moment, should keep me going for a while. -
Just wondering if anyone received their refund yet, my Bank Balance looking very bleak atm.
Not holding my breath as putting faith into NCsoft would be a very silly move. -
They need to go back and make Fallout, X-com all turn based, that's how they started and how they were successful, leave the FPS to new games and never mess with the classics.

Quote:/This.From their website and i quote
First off
I learn of ncsoft because of their crtically acclaimed game..City of heroes
to ignore impact COH has had on their "premier MMO" is moronic
I only played coh..i tried aion it sucked. I wasnt interested in lineage or guild wars. Okay so Aion is big in Korea doesnt mean that here..here its third rate
TO ignore city of heroes to me is a final nail in the coffin...means to me they written us off
and i laugh that they are the premier mmo..i think blizzard, cryptic, perfect world, bioware,SOE ( even with the SWG screwup), and ea have a better reputation than ncsoft at this moment.
im just steaming here now and cursing ncsoft..but i realize this is how corporations work and bottom line is bottom line....
we can and have affected their PR..and i hope blade and soul sinks and GW does too....im not playing another Ncsoft game..and i hope our devs find a dream job,,,
sent another letter to their PR and to CEO to either continue COH or to sell the IP
hope you join me
What also irritates me are people that hide behind developers of the game, people that say they are supporting Areanet and not NCsoft is almost laughable. They are under the impression that Areanet have no knowledge of the way NCsoft deals with developers lol. Areanet know exactly who NCsoft are and the way they operate their business and how much money they make games developers.
NCsoft will always favour the new and shiny as that makes them more money, what they rely on are those that will put the new FOTM shiny before their principals and as long as people keep doing that they will continue to operate that way.
An example of this would be a new Developing company comes on the scene called "give me your money", they want Ncsoft to publish their game even though they know NCsoft reputation they also know it will make them a lot of money.
The way people see it now is ahhh the new FOTM shiny must have it so I will be supporting "give me the money" as they made the game and not NCsoft.
Now if NCsoft could they would release the game and sell it off in a month, but they can't as doing that would turn away potential Developers from coming to them to publish the game.
So now they are stuck with it for a couple of years until they can come up with a half cocked excuse to end it.
"Give me the money" has now been shelved and are hurt by this along with the player base.
NCsoft are now looking for another victim, but how can you stop them doing this to future developers? -
Thanks for the update Zwill
,
Well it seems after 8 years Ncsoft really pulled out all the stops to keep their loyal customers happy, shame I purchased a truck load of points on the 21st August.
Feel's a bit like, we don't want your money so here take back the odd change left over from your subscription and be gone. -
I normally find that when a thread needs to be bumped it speaks for itself what people think and feel of the thread.
Hence you can't expect anything but negative reaction when it appears top of the threads list again.
It's been repeatedly stated on numerous occasions by various people including myself that they don't want to see GW2 threads on here, the response was "if you don't want to see it go elsewhere", which apparently what people did, why the need for the bump. -
Thanks Z. and hope everything is going well on the job front.
-
Quote:Ironic isn't it, when I complained about all the GW2 threads on the official forums, what was the response I got???, oh yes, we have permission to talk about other games now if you don't like them go elsewhere.I just don't see why everyone needs to make a new thread about it. It just feels like it's pushing everything else off the front page, do we really need 10 different "I hate you, NCSoft!!" threads? Can't we all hate them in one place?
Guess if it ain't GW2 praising it's not allowed. -
I would have waited at least until mid November to do this, the way I see it is, if any company were to take over the game they would need at least a month to come up with a bid after they already worked out the budget they would put to this game, then they would need to work out staffing, servers etc. Then of course there is the slow negotiation stage of coming up with the right money with NCsoft.

On a side note one of my main questions I posed to them was:-
@DefiantSlaz 12 Sep
@MMMSociety Will this MMO keep everything in line with the EU and America with regards to release date, Beta invites etc. Stung in past.
Marvel Heroes
@MMMSociety
@DefiantSlaz We will try our best. We cannot guarantee everything will be simultaneous globally, but we're going to do what we can.
06:15 PM - 12 Sep 12
See your from the EU Praf, might be of interest, also they seemed very interested in the EU market which I liked and having taken time out to reply to me was good of them. -
I got an e-mail from the new Marvel MMO (@MMM Society), they posed a question what I would like to see featured in the new MMO. I basically listed off a huge list of CoX related features including changing the name of the game to City of Heroes
.
-
E-mails sent.
On a side note, every time I see Tony post is reminds me of a recent song.
If you was ever going to have a campaign song for Save Our City I believe this to be perfect and it being released around the same time we heard the news seems like a good coincidence.

I like it, the NPC are taking a stand as well, after all these years of us protecting them, it almost like the roles are reversed.
-
I notice people saying they can't log on as it makes them sad, for me it's the opposite, I get really angry that this great game is getting cancelled. All my time and effort will be flushed away without a second thought. I have given myself some time out to peruse other games which made me even more angrier CoX was shutting down. Champions/DCUO/GW2.
Champions was terrible, I can't believe how bad the graphics were for a game brought out later than CoX and the content was minimal for game that's 5+ years old.
Their player-base is far less then CoX was.
Champions budget must have been low on the development side, looks like they only have 5-10 people working on it rather than CoX 80, maybe if CoX could have halved their budget costs on development it might have continued.(I would have been willing to not get as many new features as we were to keep the game running).
DCUO, is not bad for a solo player game, it is a long cry from a good MMO.
GW2, Won't bother saying much about this as these forums seem to already have a enough fanbois taking up too much room on CoX official forums. -
**** ** can't be bothered getting irritated by GW2 **** anymore.
-
Quote:Why can't you use GW2 boards? why should I have to go elsewhere to avoid threads about it?If you don't want to participate in the thread, no one's forcing you to. We're allowed to discuss other games on this forum now, and are doing so.
And ALL OF US who're in this thread right now are "core COH players" and most of us are also participating in the efforts to save the city, even if we also play other games. -
Yes we get it, it's a great game yes got it, but right now threads like this maybe better suited to GW2 boards as to not antagonise core CoH players on their own forums, things far more important than GW2 are of more interest.
-
Does GW2 not have an official forum?, just wondered why I'm seeing so many threads about it on the COH forum. Will take a shot in the dark here and say as good as the game is, the community sucks.

What might be worth doing also is taking a print out of your account records with NCsoft as well. Most banks can check back and see a pattern when it comes to monthly, 6 monthly or yearly purchases, but if your like me and purchased quite a few points on the 21st August it's nice to have something if the banks raise an eyebrow about payments.
I tend to print everything when matters like these come up, they seem to hold more weight than what comes out of my mouth. -
Yeah am waiting, hence only posing a hypothetical question to the BM.
But am glad I cleared up one problem if things end up going the wrong way. -
Sorry but haven't read through the entire thread so this may have come up before.
I approached my bank manager and posed him with a hypothetical question saying that I paid for a product for 8 months and I will not be receiving that product in it's entirity the only thing I would receive is gift tokens to the amount owed, his response was that the bank would refund the debit and they would then send my report to the Fraud Investigation Team as a possible scam, he also mentioned that I would have 4 years from date of debit to report this.
I am in the UK so not sure if this applies across the globe, but it sounded pretty reasonable to me, even though I might not receive the monies back from NCsoft itself. -
Really hated it when I first logged in, but switching off the cartoon effect (made it look like a poor version of Freedom Force) it appealed to me a bit more. Not a lover of costume pieces playing a part of your character and it does seem a bit cheesy story wise. I suppose it will do for now until something better comes along that isn't NCsoft related.
