Response from NCsoft Support (About Refunds)

It appears that this claim was false and was not an actual response from the NCsoft customer service team.

Normally we have a policy against "naming and shaming" however in this case with as many views and posts as the thread has, I feel that it is in the best interests of transparency that we are very open about this. Please understand that false claims and impersonation of NCsoft or Paragon staff cannot be permitted on these fora.

Thank you,

Since I pre-paid a 12 month subscription again this year at the end of July 2012 and NCSoft plans to shut down our MMO servers on Nov. 30th, I plan to ask NCSoft for a pro-rated return of what I spent in US dollars NOT credit towards another NCSoft product - unless it happens to be City of Heroes 2 as produced by Paragon Studios. Sorry, NCSoft but none of your other products are things I want; only City of Heroes!

I have 3800 points on an account I can't fully access due to my sub going ftp a week before the announcement. Thanks for robbing me NCSoft.

Derp. My VIP ran out yesterday. =|

Plus I have so many points it's not even funny, up in the 15,000+ Range. So... if they are not going to be used.. were bought to be used at my leisure.. VIP time wasn't really needed anymore due to the game shutting down (2 days worth)..

You're an amazing person, and some supreme being in the sky loves you for it. I promise.

Yup. Just like with Tabula Rasa.

I wonder if they'll try pushing Guild Wars 2 on City of Heroes players like they did Aion with the TR crowd.

In the EU at least, I don't think they can legally refuse to refund you.

They pushed CoH on the Dungeon Runners community when they shut them down.

And this is my worry ... so many ppl keep saying that if you were VIP when the announcement hit, then you're VIP till the end. And I don't think that's true .. My monthly sub hit JUST before the announcement, and I'll be effing pissed if I get dropped because they've decided to pull this ***** move.

Great, now I'm hearing "Circle of Life" from the Lion King in my head. What have you done?

Though now I wonder where they tried to herd the Auto Assault guys.

It certainly sounds like pushing GW2 on us is exactly what they are doing.

That I don't know I only know about Dungeon Runners because I had an account there (along with my CoH account) when it shut down.

I can respond to that. When Auto Assault was killed everyone got a copy of the current Guild Wars expansion, Tabula Rasa (Beta access I think) and a copy of City of Heroes.

At the time I thought it mighty right of them to do. Of course with Auto Assault we all knew the end was coming for some time. The community was much smaller and it wasn't a huge shock. I don't think anyone was renewing their subs for a year at a time with AA after the first year.

As flawed as it was, I still miss my daily dose of AA.

There's a counter-example here. Sounds like it's a crapshoot.

Thanks. Guess I can only wait.

Forget about disputing the charges on your credit card if they are from months ago. I doubt that would work.

But if all of us who did yearly subscription joined together in a class action law suit? Could we, all players of the game, join in on that, just for them shutting down a game and not looking at other avenues of keeping it going? Any lawyers in the house?

i haven't received any direct communications from NCsoft since the closure was announced, so they haven't done any pushing of Guild Wars 2 to me yet.

i'll have to go check, but i'm pretty sure my six month plan was renewed/charged a week or two before the announcement, so i'm wondering what sort of credit i'll be getting.

i probably would have purchased GW2 by now if not for the announcement. Now i'm reluctant to do so. Tried out CO last night and still didn't care much for the look, but i'll give it a chance for a bit. Turned off the cel-shading right off, but still have to sort out the other settings and stuff before i can really judge it as it is now.

Thank you for contacting us about this current issue, until stated
otherwise
there will be no refunds of any City Of Heroes accounts at this
time. You may request a transfer of equal exchange of your remaining
balance on City Of Heroes for time allotment on another NCsoft title of
your choosing.

GG NCsoft, GG.
Thanks for all the fish. =|

Before everyone gets too worked up. You are overlooking one small point in their response (which I've highlighted ~ i hope! ) It says "until stated otherwise"

We have been told by Posi and Zwill that there will be an official announcement from Ncsoft about how they will handle refunds. This isn't it. And so you are getting a generic response, probably based on how they normal deal with requests for refunds in normal circumstances. This isn't to say that at the end of the day, we don't end up at the same place, but I'll wait to get p***ed until they make the official announcement.

They cannot. Contact your local Trading Standards department.

But be aware they may well kill your account stone dead if you do ask for a refund - if they are so inclined.

I'll be saving an image of my Billing Summary(s). My accounts are paid well into next year. I have no interest in any other NCsoft products and and will be staying until the last day possible with my friends.

When the servers are shut down, and regardless of the charge date, I will contact NCsoft for resolution before submitting for partial chargebacks.

My VIP on my main account ends the 18thway of this month. That is when I was due to pay for another year. It will really suck to lose access to some of my Characters before the end. Over two months before they end.
