Quote:No Kickstarter project has even received even close to the funding needed to start a new MMO project. Your talking 50 - 100 million in development costs.I'd like to know if the Paragon Studios team is planning on staying together and starting a new MMO project, Kickstarter or otherwise.
Obsidian raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of hours from Kickstarter, after sharing their plans for another isometric RPG. I think they may have hit a million in a few days but I'd have to doublecheck.
Kickstarter may be a fad, but it's a fad in full swing right now. Let's hope PS can take advantage of it in some way and strike while the iron's hot.
Edit after Googling: Okay, Obsidian + Kickstarter = 2.2 million dollars, bay-bee!

We can do that. -
Dude that was seriously funny. Excellent work!

FPARN!
So how did Synapse finish up last night? Sorry I had to bail, I had wife agro.
Will be in game a good bit of this weekend and always willing to help get ya the rest of the way. -
Alpha, 50 is no problem. We run a few iTF's and you'll be guaranteed to hit it. I took my Water Blaster from 1 - 50 in about 8 days just by running 8 man teams and TF's.
Hit me up if you see me online I'll bring one of my Incarnates in and we'll run some missions or iTF depending on who all's on.

Quote:Thursday is the Positron's Ally Event isn't it?Hi, Gang, me again.
We've gotten RHW once each night on our last two outings.
I want to form at least one more for people who don't have the badge. I'm aiming for Thursday, 09/20.
Do please come and help if you can. Some folks don't have the badge yet because they played what we needed in order to succeed instead of what they wanted the badge on. That's awesome of them to do, and we should pay them back in kind.
See my previous thread on what we need.
We have been doing this very early by Pacific coast folks' standards. Since this is a weeknight, I am going to try to keep to the same schedule. However, I am also going to try and check with known west coast folks who I have not seen at prior attempts, and potentially reschedule for later on Fri or Sat, so that it's more reasonable for East Coast and Midwestern folks to help out without being half asleep at work the next day.
So, tentative date/time: Thursday the 20th at 8 Eastern, 7 Central, 6 Mountain, 5 Pacific, but watch this space for a reschedule. -
Any and all with uniforms. I only need it long enough to get the code to render your toon so a couple seconds will do nicely.
-
The Hive saw the formation of Team Awesome... best place I can think of for Justice Server is the Hive.

If anyone is or was a member of the Department of Inter-Dimensional Defense (DoIDD) I'd like to get a CoH Demo record of your DoIDD Toons in your SG uniform so I can put together a group photo. Please contact me

Quote:That's ok. NCSoft still has to proceed with basic shutdown procedures in case the talks do not pan out. Talks won't prolong the life of the game unless they are successful.Zwill just posted in another thread that there would be a message regarding "the cessation of player services" in the next few days.
So they still have to put out the details of what happens with left over credit on accounts etc no matter what happens. -
Quote:My guess is whatever negotiations are going on to save the game involve keeping things pretty much frozen in place until the deal is either completed or abandoned.Given the threats to their business, the advertisements of competitive games and the general negativity being generated on the boards, what reason does this company have to keep these forums going. If they were shut down NOW, any organized attempts at generating a negative ad campaign or boycott would be severely hampered. The few posters - compared to the player base numbers - could try to organize on facebook or someother site, but that would most likely have little success.
So again I ask, why shouldn't this game just pull the plug on these forums - keep the rest of the COH site up but just place a "down for maintenence" sign on the forums?
AFTER everything is settled and we hear a positive result I'd guess these forms will be archived and new ones will be created.
If we hear a negative result my guess is these boards will stick around right up until the final day. In games past they have left the boards up right till the end. There's no guarantee of that but it wouldn't surprise me. -
The longer the Paragon Studios folks are silent the better off we are. Why you ask? Simple the longer they are silent and not running crazy game breaking events on the live servers the more likely it is that a solution favoring us will be reached.
Think about it folks, if its possible that they can save the game then they're not going to do anything to screw up the live environment b/c they will want things to carry on after Nov. 30 as if nothing ever went wrong.
No news literally is good news for us. -
Mission Architect or any other feature didn't kill CoH.
A big reason for decline in 2009? Fatigue. This was when myself and a lot of the older players finally hit that pont where we just weren't interested in playing anymore. We were 5 - 6 (counting beta) years in and ready for something else for a while.
The thing to remember when talking about any one feature is that none of them drove large numbers of players away. MMO's decline over time, there have been very few exceptions to that rule.
Anyone comparing WoW to CoH is fooling themselves. WoW is the exception to EVERY MMO rule. Its a fluke brought about by a well loved game company taking a very well loved franchise and moving into the MMO space with a game that did nothing new or unique, it just did everything basic and simple and it made all the millions of preexisting fanboys happy.
After that long break of a couple years I came back to the game and found my love renewed and I've been playing just like I did in the days of old. Lots of and lots of hours logged. During the 4 weeks before the Announcement of DOOOOOOOM I saw a lot of older players coming back to game.
Our fatigue was over but sadly NCSoft's wasn't. -
Quote:Yep. I wondered the same thing.
I think we'd have gotten a heads-up before the studio closure, though, if that were the case. They usually give a bit more heads up than that for pending DXP weekends. (Unless it was announced and I missed it.)
So... here's the ONE reason I can think of as to why they wouldn't just leave it on. Negotiations are going well... and they don't want everyone to blow through characters and have nothing left to do after Nov30. -
I'd love to try but I've never even run the Magi, so I probably won't be much help.

Quote:I can respond to that. When Auto Assault was killed everyone got a copy of the current Guild Wars expansion, Tabula Rasa (Beta access I think) and a copy of City of Heroes.Great, now I'm hearing "Circle of Life" from the Lion King in my head. What have you done?
Though now I wonder where they tried to herd the Auto Assault guys.
At the time I thought it mighty right of them to do. Of course with Auto Assault we all knew the end was coming for some time. The community was much smaller and it wasn't a huge shock. I don't think anyone was renewing their subs for a year at a time with AA after the first year.
As flawed as it was, I still miss my daily dose of AA. -
Quote:Agreed 110%. The official announcement should have had the server shutdown date, what happens to prepaid time etc all detailed out before being posted. The emphasized is why NCSoft will never get any more money from me. It is disrespectful to customers and to their loyalty to be treated this way. Shutting down games happens. But this information should have been part of the initial announcement. Plans for an orderly shutdown should have been finalized. Events should have been planned to let the game go out with a bang.
Here we don't even rate that consideration. -
Ideally, if they kept a small crew on CoH maintaining and rolling out fixes, I'd stay subscribed to it until CoH2 came about.
