At this point I've not received any details regarding a refund process, what you can get a refund for or how to go about requesting one. As soon as they pass along those details, myself or whomever is left will definitely communicate that.

For now, I can't do anything but advise you to wait until NCsoft has communicated that information.

FWIW, I'm very sorry that they haven't communicated this information and have passed along your frustrations.
To me the suddenness and timing of the closure (what with a major update nearly completed, new products in the works or even ready for release, and the way NCsoft appears to have not prepared for the closing in advance) it seems that it was prompted more by corporate politics and infighting than anything else. i wouldn't be surprised if an executive who was a major supporter of NCsoft's Western gaming initiatives happened to be on vacation that week, or some of the recent investors started leaning on the board to prove they were really committed to "refocusing their core business". The whole thing seems poorly planned and executed, almost like it was a spur of the moment decision.

Maybe that's just me, but i've known of major corporate decisions that were based on jockeying between the executives and management infighting rather than any calculated business plan in other industries.

Now you stop that this instant. Put your big *** post up again and don't let my insolence dissuade you from doing your best to save this game you like. You just reverse engineered my expert trolling right into a heart piercing e-rage self depreciation. In other words, damn my emotional womanhood.

You get your fingers typing that out again, and you continue to fight for whatever it is you're fighting for Mr.Electric. That stuff came from your heart so don't let a trollina like myself find a way to break your spirit. Jesus man. I outta smack the e-sense into you or something with a virtual tuna.

Get your arthritis on and spread that message wherever you can. And don't mind my stupidity.

Aion sucks, Guild Wars characters are the same as every other MMO. They should just transfer our City of Heroes characters over to Aion and Guild Wars then we could show these medieval clones how to ***** ***** up properly. City of Heroes Forever!

True, true.

Oh noes. I'm being text nerfed again.

If yesterday's Atlas Park rally represents our outcry's crescendo, then we may as well pick up all of our toys and go home.
Disagree. 3000+ people on Virtue alone? 33 AP instances on 1 server, with a queue of 300 waiting to get in, Second server filled within moments, spilling over to a third.

But after yesterday's rally, I noticed that most of the Internet-at-large had branded our community the "City of Children" (and a bag full of other colorful titles) within hours, and completely misunderstood our protest banners as being, well, PROTEST banners. THE PUBLIC AT LARGE IS STILL NOT AWARE THAT WE HAD A UNITY RALLY. And if you want more of my opinion, I think a significant portion of the player base also believed themselves to be attending an angry protest against NCSoft. Someone mentioned that players should have been using the /e lotus emote instead, or other similarly non-aggressive postures. That person is a genius. Wish we'd listened to the genius. Oh, well, maybe next time.
Disagree. There have been 2 people. 2 .. not most of the internet, that have dubbed negative blogspot comments on our fight for this cause. In -actuality- MOST of the internet community has been behind us. I'll have you look at the coverage being -constantly- posted by massively, joystiq and many others. Perhaps you should join the facebook pages that post these (both good and bad) as they hit the internet.

And I'm not sure what channels you were listening to, but I was in the top 2 server wide channels (help, and LFG) and everyone made it very clear why we were there an what we were doing. Not to mention the coverage her eon the forums.

I may not be the most rose colored glasses person around. I temper my hope with the reality that it may or may not make a difference. But, when the red names and devs themselves tell us how inspiring we are, and how our voices are being heard and NC$OFT has been in "talks" (yes whatever that means). Then I, for one, know that the efforts being made, the petitions, the letters, the internet, and celebrity coverage is in fact making a difference. What that difference is, or will be, who knows. But fact of the matter is it's being heard.

It's ok. PvPers can't help it.

I do know for a fact that it's been more than enough to be heard. And there's no intent on letting it end here.

Hey Mods, do me a favor and make a list for me and sticky it up:

How many ignore lists am I on?
How many have I been on?
How many can I get on?

Do a poll, oh and while you're at it lets make a contest out of it with some prizes for the person who ignores me last (right before the servers shut down.)

We can even do in-game events like, '' Iggy the Jenny'' or something.

Newaiz. Thread derailed.

I'll go back into my dark crevice of the internet and leave the fate of truth to all of you guiz.

Oh, the only person *I* ever expect to get put on ignore by is Canny (Arcanaville), in part because I insist on calling her Canny -- a brick joke I now despair of ever getting to drop.

Wow, some people have multi-month paid time over several accounts? Must be nice to have disposable income like that...

But don't you think that's the risk you run, pouring that much money on an online game? Like buying a 'lifetime subscription' to CO? Would you feel cheated that the game bit it after a year?

Sort of why I only buy month-to-month on anything MMO since I have no idea if I'd even want to keep giving a company my money despite not being able to play. You may get a better deal by buying X amount of months at a time...but that savings comes from paying for a service whose quality is outside of your control. Whereas, you pay more for per-month installments but if anything were to go sour, you're not beholden to being cheated out of something you already paid for.

Even if you guys get your refund on advanced time, hopefully you'll learn it's not always wise to pay that way for online entertainment. Because, technically, you got what you paid for and aren't entitled to anything in my eyes. Paying for a service before you get served (and isn't a reactive service) is like tipping your waiter as you walk into the restaurant.

Ok, I'll treat you like a rational adult for a moment: for the record, I didn't read all of Electric's post; what I did read suggested a rah-rah tone that I think is mildly depressing given the reality of the situation.

But that TL;DR stuff is simply obnoxious. If you don't wanna read the post, then skip over it. Or if you wish to be witty, then apply your no-doubt prodigious brain and invent a real joke instead of spending three seconds to find a beaten-to-death meme on Google image search. Until then?

I commented in support of Electric's decision not to censor himself. That's it. I thought it was silly for him to withdraw his comment simply because he was mocked in the most unimaginative way possible.

Haha, he was referring to someone you didn't see post between you because you have them on ignore!!

Everyone (besides those intentionally trolling), just relax.
None of us can convince everyone of anything.
And do not take negative reactions (no matter how incorrect or unfair they may be) too hard.

I've been in the entertainment business all of my life (It's cute when 9 year olds say that, btw)... and I find the biggest (yet most consistent) challenge is the art of handling rejection.
Most successful careers look something like this: rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, success, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection, rejection (If you keep doing what you do after you reach what you would define as "success").

A few bits of bad mouthing about our demonstrations and efforts to keep this product and development staff alive? That's absolutely nothing.

Cheer up. We're doing relatively well.

I work, therefore I am prudent budgeting and a lack of other vices gives me leeway.

anyhow, multi month and lifetime subs are something of a gamble. I got bit a bit on this ending, but over the course of the lifespan of coh, i made out big time.
as per Co it paid off, i paid the cost of a year and a half sub and, in addition to exclusive costume stuff, i have had a free ride for a year and a half more so far. Plus, i hate paying monthly, i can time overtime to fill up my coffers with some planning, and then I dont have to worry again. Plus, i try to do my homework. i transitioned into 14 monthers on coh because i had faith in the developers. over the lifetime of the game, I still came out way ahead of monthers, i dont skitter easily, and a down month doesn't mean the next month will be down, I made the decision based on weighing the options, and feel that by and large, I still came out on top . I accepted the risk, different strokes for yadda yaddas. as for people who think they have a solid case, I'm not a lawsuit guy by any stretch of the imagination, but faster pussycats, kill kill, i support you. Get the legal satisfaction that you can make a legitimate case for.

City of Heroes and its wealth of shared creations represent a new kind of publication in a new age of media. As we head further into the Digital Age, people will occasionally HAVE to make a stand for the public value of knowledge held within server-based storage media, as well as our inherent right as humans to continued access to the wealth of knowledge, imagination, and experience we build in these shared environments.
This is a terrific point, and runs parallel to something I've been chewing over since the announcement.

Thanks for articulating it for me, I'll give you a shout out when I finally finish the post...

That's about how I feel about this particular situation.

Anytime you buy Time in advance, you're running the risk that you won't be able to actually use it when the time comes to do so.

And whoever stockpiled thousands of points "just in case" gets no sympathy at all. Why would you spend money for points you might use later when you can just spend money for points that you want to use right now? Why should a company refund someone for poor planning by the customer? If this sounds harsh, it's called Life. Welcome to it.

If I were looking for refunds, I'd stick to game time only. Microtransactions are usually "buyer beware."

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Lulipop. I took you off ignore. I probably shouldn't have told you to go screw yourself.

I suppose this is the part where you think about how to punish me for giving you the benefit of the doubt. That's fine if that's really all you think you amount to. But I remember when you first showed up here, you said some real sensible things here and there. Maybe I just missed all the trolling posts you were making, but I remember thinking you seemed like a bright person.

I know this is the Internet and I'm supposed to be debating your disagreements or something, but ya'know, a reply like this is just really great to read. Maybe rose-colored glasses are bad, but optimism is essential. Your attitude is why this game and community rocks, and is worth showing up for, and worth saving.

That final point I made in my post was actually the first tragic point that entered my mind when the news broke. I alluded to it in the second paragraph of my open letter to NCSoft, if subtly. And, truth be told, it has concerned me that more people haven't brought it up, and don't bring it up when situations like this arise. It makes me feel like I'm living in a culture that is willing to embrace the reality of that final sentence in my "td;lr" post with nary a second thought.

for how i read his post, it wasnt that yesterday was small, but rather that we need to keep on doing things to get attention, not just have yesterday and forget it.

Sorry to keep posting, but I just want to say, yes, this is how I meant it. I think we'll need more of that. A lot more. More than we've ever given and possibly more than any game community has.

Sure, I'd rather be wrong.

(But I do think, in the event that I'm right, that we ARE the community for the mission.)
