Raising Heart isn't a staff. It's a device for befriending people via the use strategic level beam weaponry.

You could argue that the children would be natural as there have been no mutations in their genes - they just inherited them "normally" from their parents. They wouldn't be a natural human, sure, but are they even human by then?
  3. On my (melee) fort, I slotted Dominate with 4x Basilisks and 2xlvl 50 common damage IOs. Gives me some decent set bonuses including a 7.5% rech, as well as 85% damage enhancement. Without Purples and/or ATIOs (the former were too expensive and the latter didn't exist when I slotted her up), I think it's pretty much the best combination.

Oh, I'm sure there's a lot more to it, and I'll stick with it a while longer (I only give up on really bad stuff after 1 episode), but that was unquestionably the overriding impression I got from the first episode.

True. But it's still worth watching at home. If, that is, you like a large helping of dead fish, fourth wall breaking and general insanity.

On another note, I've just seen the first episode of a show called Nazo no Kanojo X, which appear to be about a guy with a spit fetish. Yeah....
  6. If you like Excel, try Puni Puni Poemi. It's what happens when the same team turn their attention to the magical girl genre. The result is....interesting...
  7. Seeing as the current season is ending, and I haven't posted in this thread for ages (partly cos I took a break from CoH, partly cos...dunno...), I might as well post my thoughts on recent stuff:

Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Sci-fi magical girls, music and weird alien things. Cheesy, predictable and great fun. If you want something where you can just sit back and enjoy the action (and the soundtrack), this should do nicely.

Aquarion EVOL - Aka Return of the Orgasm Robots. If liked the first series of Aquarion, you'll like this. If you didn't, you wont. If you've no idea what I'm talking about, it's a gratuitously OTT mecha show which seems to be focused on getting as much sexual innuendo past the censors as possible. Again, no classic, but it's damn entertaining.

Another - As others have said, creepy and very good. To say much more would be spoiling

Kill Me Baby - A sketch show about a schoolgirl assassin and her friend. Would be great as 5 minute shorts. Really drags as full episodes. The ending credits are cool though.

Rinne no Lagrange - Girls, mecha, flowers, suspiciously human aliens... I've still no idea whats going on here, but I like it...

Bodacious Space Pirates - I really wanted to like this. Girl inherits a pirate spaceship and...well...not much happens. The setting is interesting, the characters decent, but it's soooo sloooooow.

High School DxD - Tits. Tits. Tits. Oh, and some tits. It doesn't even have good action like Samurai Girls, let alone anything resembling a story. Avoid - you might as well just watch porn.

And a few other not new things I've seen in the last couple of months:

Basquash - It's basketball. In mecha. Yeah. Doesn't quite come together the way it promises to after 7-8 episodes, and the product placement makes Pizza Hut's sponsorship of the resistance look tame, but it's pretty fun none-the-less. DESTROY!!!!!

Le Portrait De Petite Cossette - An art student becomes obsess with the ghost (sort of) of an murdered girl. Not saying it's outstanding, but as it's only 3 OVAs, I'd say it's worth checking out, particularly seeing as the music is done by Yuki Kajiura.

Mai-HiME - This has been on my "to watch list" for some time, and I finally got round to seeing it. It very very nearly made it onto my "top anime of all time list". It's a sort of magical girl/mons hybrid type show, though the characters are a bit older than the usual for those genres. The early parts are pretty lighhearted, albeit with good action scenes. After the halfway mark, it starts getting much much darker, becoming a pretty brutal critique of your usual "happy" magic girl show. Then it blows it all with the last 10 minutes of the final episode which are unbelievably sucky. Still a good show, but it could've been sooooo much more

Mai-Otome - A sort of sequel to the above. Keeps the more upbeat feel through most of the show, though there are some darker moments. As such, the cheesily epic finale works much better than it's predecessor's. Very, very good if you want a proper action show. Less so if you're looking for some serious deep philosophisng or some such. The OVAs don't make much sense though...
  8. No, but I do complain when people aren't dying often enough for me to use it....
  9. First impressions of the new season (yeah, I tried pretty much everything barring sequels to things I've not seen):

    Fate/Zero - It's Fate/Zero, need I say more?

Shinryaku!? Ika Musume - More Squidgirl

C^3 - Looks like a generic harem pretending to be something more. Not that promising, but I'll give it a couple more episodes to convince me.

Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! - Generic harem/fighting/fanservice show that's fully aware of what it is and as such is entertainingly bad.

Phi Brain - Save the world with PUZZLES!!! Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a Japanese word for puzzle, so you have to put up with them saying it in English. Pretty much every other sentance. That said, it could've been fun had it been a comedy, but it's played completely straight. Probably quite good if you're a 12yr old boy, but I'm not, so....

Kimi to Boku - School-based slice of laifu without any girls. Looked like it would probably be BL, but is actually quite good, in a gently humourous manner.

Tamayura ~hitotose~ - Girls take pictures and not much happens.

Mashiro-Iro Symphony - Boy goes to girls school. Pretty sure I can see where this is going...

Maken-Ki - As per the previous but with more fighting and fanservice. As yet I'm not sure whether is enjoyably bad or just bad...

Chibi Devi! - Beelzebub with girls. 5 minute shorts that provide some amusement, but nothing remotely special as of ep 1.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon - I have no idea what just happened. Lots of people running around fighting on a flying city. The guy who I think is the protagonist has the creepiest smile ever....

Mirai Nikki - Boy discovers his imaginary friend isn't quite so imaginary, acquires a diary which tells the future and finds himself in a last man standing "survival game" with other who have similar diaries. Barring F/Z, probably the most promising so far.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - Social outcast meets girl who only has imaginary friends, they make a club to learn how to get real friends. Op makes it look like it'll become (yet another) harem show, but the first episode was good fun
  10. Sounds pretty interesting, but I hate the aesthetics - really ugly IMO.
  11. Yep, happened to me when I tried to go to page two of this thread

I really can't understand why it happens. Are we on some really bad forum software or something? I regularly use about a dozen other forums and I never get logged out of them.
  12. Oh God...that hidden image...

Thing is, 99% of CoH can be played like that, particularly with an IOed + Incarnated character. No need to think, just kill em all.

Which is part of why I love this game

Yeah, Squid Girl is good. Definitely worth checking out if you're after some lighthearted fun

And here's a couple more things to watch:

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls - Gender-swapped reincarnations of famous samurai in an alternative reality Japan where the Shogunate never fell, this looks like a show about scantily clad women with big swords. And, frankly, it is. There's no Witchblade-esque story hidden away, just fanservice and fighting. So why am I recommending it? Two reasons: 1) the aesthetics are brilliant, and 2) it's fun. Definitely a guilty pleasure, if you want something you can just switch your mind off and enjoy, this'll do nicely. If nothing else, just see the epic first couple of minutes of ep 1...

Yuru-Yuri - I mentioned this as being promising a month or so back, and I'll follow that up by saying it's great. A slice-of-life comedy with schoolgirl lesbians (complete with nosebleeds), shipping, fourth wall breaking, comedic sociopathy, shout outs....Seriously, just watch it, 'tis very funny

I hope not...Valkyrie is supposed to be tech based (hence her current armour), not the fanatsy/historical look of the Valk pack. Not denying she needs redoing, but it should at least fit the character's backstory...
  17. As Frost Warden, this ain't really anything new - not just GR, but, back in the day, CoV, which gave you powersets and archetypes, cost money.

It also doesn't really compare to other MMOs, as, so far at least, all the powersets are roughly equal power. Buying more gives you a wider variety of characters to play, but it doesn't increase their actual strength, so there's no sense of players "buying power" or similar.

Personally, I generally support it given two conditions:

    a) There continue to be free ones - such as Time Mainpulation
    and
    b) The costs remain within 2-3 months worth of "free" points for subscribers.
  18. People are worried about letting thier teammates die? Wow...IMO, if people aren't dying at least every couple of fights, then the difficulty setting is too low.
  19. Definitely making a Titan Weapon brute, secondary will likely be either Electric or Energy (depending on how the tweaks to the latter turn out). Probably roll a Dark/Dark blaster (though I might switch the secondary to mental), and I might do a Time/Beam Rifle Defender. I'm sure I'll try other sets in time, but those are the three that immediately come to mind,
  20. The "procs per minute" reminds me of Everquest (or was it EQ2? Been ages since I played either but I'm certain it was in at least one of them) where all procs were normalised to fire, on average, once per <time interval> so as to not penalise slow attacking sets.

  22. Some assorted stuff that comes to mind:

I'm fully expecting the devs to already have a Vanguard TW, but on the off chance they don't, here's one (hell, it'd look good as a metal sword instead of an energy one too...):

How about a massive hammer with drill on the end (sorry about the crap quality):

    Chainswords!

I've never really bought the "range is an advantage" in CoH. It takes, what, half a second to jump into the mobs, I don't find I have to chase around much unless I'm on a team with some idiot with knockback (Dominate stops any runners in their tracks) and I'm survivable enough as it is. So I'll take pure damage any day.

Dominate and Gloom are two of the best range attacks in the game. If you stick in procs, they are even better. I consider Dominate one of the best range attacks because it is a sure mag 3 hold that does more damage than a regular hold. And Chance for smashing from purple set is a whole lot cheaper than chance for negative from range purple set.
Dominate is indeed great - hence why I've taken it - and I would've like to put Gloom in there too, but I didn't really have the slots.

It's interesting to note that you didn't mention any of the straight up Fort blasts (only a control and a PPP power)....

    Quote:
PS: If you want to focus mainly on melee, then I will definitely stick Tough in the build. Tough determines whether you die in one hit or not. :P
Tried it, didn't notice much difference. Might squeeze it back in instead of Assault if the reports of it no longer having a prequisite in I21 are correct.

Just to note, I did have a ranged based fort. The melee version was originally just playing about with my second build, but I actually found it to be both much more effective and fun to play so I scrapped the original build and focused on the melee one.
  24. IIRC, in beta they didn't originally have any inherent, but people complained because "all other ATs have one", so this small boost was thrown in to appease the masses.
  25. Here's my Fort's current build, she's probably my favourite character. Obviously it's melee focused, in order to take advantage of those claw attacks, which are much better than the ranged blasts. As such, it's got excellent single target damage, solid AoE and good ST control. There isn't much on the AoE control side, but to be honest, Forts aren't great at that anyway, so it's no big loss. Survivability is pretty much as good as you're gonna get, with softcapped def to all positions with perma ML and Aid Self.

It did cost a lot to finish, particularly with the LotGs, but I had cheaper things in there to begin with and worked my way up, and it was still great fun.

Travel for me is CJ+NR, so you'll have to tweak it a bit, but CJ can easily be swapped for Hover, then maybe Vengeance or one of the Assaults for fly, along with a bit of reordering so you get them early.
