    ??/Traps

No one for Assault Rifle, eh?

I know you've already rolled, but I found this to be an incredibly fun combo. KB synergizes very well with Caltrops, and you get a LOT of AoE.

It's a fun set and there is probably no better pairing for it than Traps.
  2. Generally, I dislike "lookwhatIdid" threads, but this one made me happy.

  3. Someone else mentioned it I think, but what I like least about a lot of KB powers (when I am using them) is the *chance* for KB.
I like powers like Gale and Torrent, because at least you know what you're getting...trying to position yourself when your AoE has a 60% chance of KB...meh
  4. If I'm on a melee toon, and my choices are between a PB spamming that God-awful PbAoE (Pulsar?) and a Controller spamming their AoE Immob, I'll take the PB.

At least those mobs have a CHANCE to make it back to AoE range...

Seriously...AoE immobs should state in the long text "This is not actually the best power ever!"
  5. Like Bunny, I am considering a high-end, heavy investment build:

For me, it boils down to the fact that /Fire gets Burn, and /ElA does not.

    Burn is win.

There may be a gap between the two in terms of Endurance management, but Consume works reasonably well and any shortcomings can be shored up with an inspiration or two.

ElA CANNOT overcome the damage gap that /Fire creates with Burn.

    My 2 inf.

edit: And just to respond to the OP (and again this solely my personal opinion):

Don't make a tank. Unless you're one of those PvP masochists. As far as I'm concerned for 99.9% of PvE content, a Brute, or sometimes even a Scrapper, is preferable to a Tank.

Couple that with a bunch of level 50s with Incarnate abilities and I figure a Dr. Q would take a lot less time on average today.
Sadly, this TF is run at level 44, so you are left without your nifty Incarnate stuffs. The O-portal sure comes in handy though.
  7. I actually ran this TF yesterday. It was a smooth run, not a huge emphasis on speed, and we finished in just under 4 hrs.

While I somewhat agree with what others are saying here about souped up travel powers, some form of group/grant invisibility would be essential to a "speed" run of this TF.

There are a few defeat alls, but the bulk of other non-hunt missions are defeat the boss and his guards (always at the back of the mish, usually very small group) and simul-click 2-4 glowies.

For our team, these were essentially defeat alls (or at least most) as we located and cleared each glowie. Of course, clicking breaks invis, so, my theoretical method would be: invis-->find glowies-->chug a few purps-->click.

As a quick sidenote: Rularuu eyeballs see through invis...but I think most, if not all, of the defeatbossandsimulglowie missions are Crey.

This method could probably have knocked an hour or more off our time, but, personally, I'm just in it or the smashing.
  8. Well, I'm an idiot.

The only reason I bothered to post all that info was that I was sure I'd already updated the stupid video drivers. I guess that was a different comp, lol.

Anyhow, updating to Catalyst 11.9 and setting the launcher to close at launch allowed me to play a good two hours w/out incident so it would seem my issue is resolved.

    Thanks again TJ
  9. Thanks TJ,

I thought I had upgraded to 11.9 but I suppose not.

Nice tip on the launcher too--I've definitely been leaving it open.

Will try soon--onna team atm though

Thanks in advance for any assistance
  11. I have been consistently crashing out of the game in the same way every time.

The game runs smoothly and quickly, but during any prolonged play session (1hr+) the game will freeze during a loading screen.

The only way I have found to recover is to fire up the Task Manager and end the program.

I will include the "CoH Helper" and "Hijack This" files (my thanks to Hyperstrike for the step-by-step guide), and here are my basic specs:

    Windows 7 (64 bit)
    Intel Core i7-2600 @3.4 GHz

  12. 1. Defender: Love my Rad/Sonic and perhaps the most fun I've EVER had in this game is playing my Traps/AR

    2. Brutes.

    3. Dominator (although the only one I've been able to get into is Plant/Fire)

    4. Blaster/Corruptor/Scrapper/Controller tie (depends on my mood)

    5. Other

    ...

    15. Mastermind (boooorrrring)

    16. Tank (generally the least useful and most boring AT in the game imho.)

But seriously, if you haven't tried it and you want a change of pace, roll a Traps/AR (or AR/Traps). So much fun.
  13. I've noticed you have several powers in which you've slotted four of one kind of enhancement. It's a waste to slot more than 3 of anything (ie damage, hold, etc) in a power and in those cases I would recommend swapping in either a end reduction or recharge, depending on how your blue bar is behaving (or putting the slot somewhere else).

Also, the regen boost from conductive aura is crap, and I *think* it has a to-hit check, so you may reconsider your slotting there as well.

    Welcome to the game!
  14. Fire/Kin is strong.

Nothing close to a well built SS/FA though. And like the man said..not just for farming, but damn near everything.

Keep working at it, hopefully one day you too can taste the awesome.

Then you will know the truth.
  15. I have never been able to get into Dark Melee, but Dark Armor and Dark Miasma go great with anything.
  16. I have had oodles of fun w/ my Traps/AR Defender.

You could roll as a Corr w/ that combo too.

Well used KB adds a fantastic bit of mitigation to an already very strong set.

This is from a guy with an Earth/Emp troller in his sig??? Yeah, buddy....MAD damage potential there.

Again as I said useless, in almost all case a troller is going to out damage them. So why even go there.
Is there any chance you can provide something to back this up? And don't give me any incarnate nonsense, you said this in regards to lower level play. All my most painful soloing experiences have been with controllers (even ones with "high" damage like illusion). On the other hand both my Rad/Sonic and Traps/AR Defenders have DESTROYED solo...

    Gonna hafta agree with this:

I think once again you've shown me that whatever game you're playing, it is not COH.

I've run the numbers on it before in a previous thread. On a rad/sonic, amplify just takes up a power slot.
This jives with what I've experienced playing many hours on a high level rad/sonic. With the amount of recharge that thing pumps out I pretty much just use shriek and scream, with the occasional howl. Any team he's on kills stuff way too fast; the activation time alone (of Amplify) makes it unnecessary at best.

So I would say: skip amplify. CC, imo, is useless on this build as well; we (me and OP) seem to agree on the reasoning there.

I would, however, argue the case for taking EM pulse. Of all your fantastic debuffs, this one is the monster. Taking ancillary Power Boost will make this thing an AV/GMs nightmare. (I generally go PB>EMP>LR>pewpew). Unlike a nuke, the EM pulse only costs 50 end. The recovery crash is the same, but it's short lived and I've rarely noticed it (and I use EMP *every* single time it's up). You can take Conserve Power out of the same pool as Power Boost for a safety net (if you want to). PB also boosts damage, so you can squeeze off a few higher damage attacks in addition to making LR and EMP extra crippling.

I know whos fault it is too, the devs.

So thank you devs for letting exploit after exploit produce unseen trillons upon trillions of influ into the systems, thanks for not taking the exploiters influ away from them. Just a big fat thanks for generally screwing the market beyond repair.

I get purples and pvp IOs are stupid exspensive and it don't bother me but the uncommons do. So thanks, devs the real people to blame for how screwed the market is and always will be.

So thanks for the hyperinflation where everything cost the proverbial wheel barrel of cash to buy

PS. Devs please, Take the ******* influence drops out of AE. I love AE so but you know it does no one any good for it to be in there.

    Don't get mad, get even.

Sure, lots of people made stupid amounts of inf with various exploits, BUT they are more than happy to give it to YOU for minimal effort.

These people are sitting around with a surplus of influence and a deficit of knowledge. Take advantage of them.

    You too can be hyperinflated!
  20. Since you seem willing to invest the time/inf, I think you would be much better served if you pursue smashing/lethal/melee set bonuses rather than recharge. 4 kinetic combats in your melee attacks would be a good place to start.

I would also recommend dropping the flight and concealment pools and picking up Boxing, Tough, Weave and Maneuvers instead.

And to answer your main question--that's wayyy too much recharge in Rage. With three slotted hasten and a few LotGs you shouldn't need more than 50-60% recharge for it to be perma.
  21. See, I think the term "hype" has lost all meaning for me at this point.

There are plenty of AT/power set combinations that can solo 8-man spawns/AVs/pylon/GMs/whatever, and there are plenty that can't yet are still fantastic in a group. Hype is subjective.

It's why the standard "wise man" answer to the question "What is the ideal team composition" is "Me and 7 competent players." After reading through all this, the question of hype seems silly...it may as well be "Which bear is best?"*

Find the build that accomodates your preferred playstyle and don't worry about what other folks are enjoying.

    *Black bear.

Agree with you everywhere else, but I think this is a little unfair. I enjoy my fire/kin on a team because it has the ability to fill a great deal of roles very effectively. Some skill is required, yes, but it allows me to play a wide variety playstyles with great effectiveness.

    You'd like playing with mine.
  23. Since this is an opinion poll, and since a couple of sets I find quite fun and useful have already been mentioned, I will reveal that I strongly dislike Electric Melee/Shield Armor. FOTM and unfun.

    Drop Sea Witch

    Don't forget about Inspirations.

As a MM you can drop them on your pets too.

If you can heal, I'd suggest purps (mostly) and some reds. If ya can't heal, purps and greens.
