Most Overhyped Power Set Combos?
I never really saw the appeal of Fire/Kins myself.
I haven't found any new FOTM type builds running rampant since Issue 19. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone finds some combo that was previously mediocre but now shines, but right now the shiny new shards are so attractive.
Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard
Keep Calm & Chive On!
Dark Miasma has perpetually been overhyped
Since this is an opinion poll, and since a couple of sets I find quite fun and useful have already been mentioned, I will reveal that I strongly dislike Electric Melee/Shield Armor. FOTM and unfun.

Illusion.
Someone comes in to ask what type of controller they should try, there'll be a chorus of "Illusion!" Blah. Give me Mind, Earth, Plant, Ice, Fire... Give me an Ice blaster. Give me a /Dev blaster. Anything but Illusion.
Super Strength. Not that it's bad, it's just that I hate, hate the rage crash.
Mains (Freedom) @Auroxis
Auroxis - Emp/Rad/Power Defender Pylon Video Soloing an AV
Pelvic Thunder - SS/Elec/Mu Brute
Sorajin - Elec/Nin Stalker
Neuropain - Sonic/Mental/Elec Blaster
Healers.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!
Fire/Dark Corrs. Not that they're bad, per se, but it seems like there's a bot on the Corr forums which answers every "What kind of Corr should I...?" thread with "Fire/Dark".
Illusion.

Thing with Illusion is, it's not a good "Control" set. But it's very good at misdirection (2 invis powers, 5 pets [PA, phantasm, and phantasm's clone], one fear-casting psuedo pet, a confuse, a direct damage power to compensate and the usual ST hold and aoe hold to round out the set), and for some people, that's gravy. It's not BAD, but unless it's paired with Rad or maybe even Kin, it doesn't live up to its reputation.

Because Illusion focuses on deflection rather than more direct control, it's a fairly unique playstyle. If you like said playstyle there really isn't any other controller for you.
Controls. Troller or Dom, I've never seen the appeal that brings people to either of these archetypes. Controlling just doesn't seem to be nearly as powerful as everyone says it is.
Warmace/EA, people keep saying that its strong and pretty.
Lies.

#2 "To Slay Sleeping Dragons" Arc #111486
#3 "Stop Calling Me"
Misdirection IS control. It's just not "hard" control.

The ability to solo multiple EBs at once with different control types and pets is certainly advantageous. Plus, if Controls were ineffective, Fire/Kin wouldn't be the go-to farming build! Neutering 16 guys at a time with ONE click... you don't think that's powerful?

The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

I'd say Dark Miasma is overhyped, and I say that as a Dark Miasma fan.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
Misdirection doesn't set up containment or keep enemies in one place for AoEs!

I've not seen one combination it doesn't work with. My Illusion/FF is a beast and this is with no debuffs at all.

I'm just a big fan of perma PA Illusion control. Not sure if its overhyped or deserving of every bit of praise it gets, but it's my preference.

Less combos but individual sets I think are over-hyped:
Illusion Control: it's a fun set to play but compared to the other options it's light on actual control so in practice it's closer to a damage set than a control set.
Radiation Emission: Another decent set but I think it tends to get a bit to much regard relative to other sets. -Regen is useful but several other sets (Cold and Traps) provide equivalent or better -Regen alongside other useful tools. It's not a bad set but I think it does get over-hyped.
Empathy: Over-hyped amongst the portion of the player-base that values "healers". It's a decent enough buff set but outside of Hamidon raids there are better option (p.s. Devs, Defenders plz can has Thermal now?)
Stone Armor: Actually the fondness for this seems to be dying, I haven't seen one in ages but in any case it used to be over-hyped. It provides very good base mitigation but other sets are almost as good and don't have the negatives. Still this is a set that shows the difference between a good player and a poor one.
Finally, most over-hyped power:
Speed Boost: It's a nice enough buff (+50% recharge never hurt anybody) but it's not as great as people make out. If I had to choose between Fulcrum Shift and Speed Boost I'd take Fulcrum Shift every time. A good Fulcrum shift provides a huge damage boost to everyone which provides a huge damage boost on it's own and effectively multiplies the usefulness of and -resistance powers other people have.
I have my thoughts, but am curious about yours. Which of the "flavor of the month" builds do you consider the most overhyped? And are there builds out there better than the FotM that have yet to be discovered/are newly emerging due to recent game updates?
