We're getting side-switching, possibly the most requested feature in the history of this game, and you're focusing on minutia like what the water will look like?

Once again, I'll pull out a line I seem to be using a lot lately. If you were given a magic flying pony that crapped gold and had saddlebags full of cookies, I'm guessing your immediate response would be, "What! No milk?"

One thing to keep in mind for folks that aren't impressed by what they've seen so far...

GR is still a ways off. Q2 2010 means April to June. That's 6 to 8 months from now. CoV came out in October 2005. Think about how much we knew in Feb '05, or even April '05.

There's a lot more they can tell as down the line. This has just been an awesome sneak preview.

...I forgot what experience means.

The milk comes from the pony's teats...

... DUH.

But ask yourself how many players play the game now with the graphic settings turned to minimum. And how many players play it on a laptop ? A lot. In my opinion it is a very nice feature but definitely not a needed one and even more not one that will add to gameplay.
People whine about dated graphics so they update the graphics.
Then people whine about how they wasted their time updating graphics.
It truly is a thankless job.

I expected more.
So?
Your unrealistic expectations aren't their fault.

Well maybe its the preliminary news and they weren`t allowed to say that many things.
If you understand that salient point why are you whining about stuff you don't have enough information to pass judgment on?

I'm still hoping for an update to the avatars. I didn't see any in all that---same old faces, same old mechanics, skeleton, play-dough hands and feet...

I want better.

First: WAAAAH

Second: Get with times, save up some money, get a new Rig.

Third: WAAAH!

Fourth: Pistol stuff is not for scrappers, so shut up already, I'm so tired of that old rhetoric. Im just amazed to see Defenders get that.

Finally: Stop playing the game if you don't like it.

Ahem.
We interupt your program for a brief announcement.

Doooooooooooomohgodwe'reallgoingtoDIEargahragr-sound of a stool being dragged, a rope snapping tight, and some gurgling-

Thank you, that is all.

And yes, I do play on a laptop, with minimum graphics. This also means Im getting me the damn upgraded desktop I deserve! =P

It was nixed a long time ago because you can't *FIT* in caves beyond being 8 feet tall.

Still here, even after all this time!

Mitt hands persist, completely frozen facial expressions persist, potentially unsupported features for ATi.

Those are the things on my list.

Sure

...are we talking about the same kind of fit here?

If Going Rogue sounds disappointing to you, then why are you here?

This is BAR NONE THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER HAPPENING TO THIS GAME PERIOD.

(I can say that because I am self absorbed CoX FANATIC with a DAMN fine gaming "rig")

Not true.
I saw absolutely nothing in that demo that would neccesitate the kind of hardware requirement that you speak of.
If your machine can already handle CoX at max settings, it will almost certainly be able to handle Ultra Mode, and if it can't, then nothing has changed for you, which is to be expected.
The graphical FX showcased in the video were all shader-based, unless I'm very much mistaken, so a GPU with decent shader capability should be able to handle it just fine.

You apparently missed the part where someone found out the demo was being played with an ATI card.

This means old incompatibilities must have been corrected.

This means far more changes are happening under the hood that "a buncha reflections" being added. For all we know, there could be performance BOOSTS for those not running in ultra-mode. We won't know until beta.

In other words, way too early for doom crying.

Great animations, but unless you can queue power after power and make it fire continuously, to me would look a bit weird.
Why would this set be unlike every other set? We build for constant solid attack chains now. ("We" here meaning those that give a damn about such things.) We'll do so with any new set.

A little too early for crying doom on this as well.

Same goes for the last bit. The only thing I'm irked about so far is the fact that they've so far decided to leave the markets separated.

Be well, people of CoH.

You know, I looked at the screenshots and I read the bullet points, and frankly, I wasn't impressed. I mean sure, I like reflection and all, but I sort of wanted to see more powersets and costumes.

After seeing this video, however, my stance switched to WANT!!! The graphic updates are SO much more than just reflections. The technology behind them is amazing, and there is so much play with lighting. Dual Pistols look better than I could have expected, far better than just grabbing the few Mastermind attacks. And I even heard some new footstep sounds that look like they depend on what boots you're wearing.

I find myself agreeing with you more and more, Sam... I think the optimist inside me is dying.

But the video WAS what sold me entirely. Things look rich, lush, and most of all; SHINEY! Everything looks so very pristine in the video that couldn't have been expressed in pictures alone. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who caught the boot sounds from jumping, either.

I'll see you in GR, Sam.

FYI: The Hero Con demo was running on an ATI card. Make of that what you will.

That video just makes it weird to see the faces attached to the names that I've "worked with" for so long...

You know, I think the clincher for me was when he finished explaining all the new graphics settings and said "Well, let's take all the new graphics away." Screen wipes, and I said it right alongside the audience "GAH!" It's surprising, because visually, they're not big changes. The architecture is the same, the light is the same, but one version looked almost like a movie, whereas the other version looked like a player mod for Half-Life. Ugh! It's amazing how big a difference something like this makes over the SAME terrain. Not only does this make Praetoria better, but it makes the WHOLE game better. I hope my card can sustain this, I really do.

the today's info is workin for me a bit more. elec control is one of my big wants, and i do really like that buildings are no longer random assignments, entering a cave in nerva to find a bank was just really really weird. also, hmm a mention of ninjas in relation to the next booster pack.. you have this anime fan's attention. Honestly, they have enough for most traditional ninja looks, outside of maybe the gauntlets. so other asian looking costume bits? kanji chest symbols? my credit card would burn through the internet.

oh and jay, if you read this, please make this stuff tail compatible, not being able to use the martial arts robes on any of rian's dragon looks kind of hurts. they are so good and i'm limited by having a tail.

Never offically. Last we heard was they knew it was a very popular choice (in the powerset poll they did) and they'd do everything they could to make it work.

i will say though, since my tank is 8 feet tall and uses tech wings, and i had to make a second wingless costume fast because it is really hard to see in the caves. just my experience, but it does seem to indicate a problem with it. if they can find a fix though, it would be cool, i do like it in champs.
