I don't think it does at all. First, no RICO in Korea. Second, I don't see any way in which you'd face RICO charges for refusing to renew an agreement that was bundled with stuff you'd bought from another company who bought it from another company over the previous five years.

Doesn't make sense to cut revenue too, though, if that's the case.
Actually, cutting short term wages can be an effective way to 'make' your company be short term profitable as you reorganize.

And since Perfect World does business here in the USA, yes, it would leave them open to racketeering charges. HP just sued the snot out of Oracle for them trying to back out of supporting their servers.

The speculation going around (SPECULATION, note!) is that this is due to the engine rights.

They were passed to Cryptic, to Atari, then to Perfect World... who wanted to shut down a competing MMO. So, when the five year renewal came around, they refused to renew and thus COH has to shut down despite being reasonably successful.

It makes more sense than having active development going so strong just days before the shutdown. If COH was bleeding money I think we'd have more warning, too. But, again, just speculation.

The game industry is not a beacon of stability.

EDIT: Beaten by 12 seconds by Rangle. Curses! Well, better to quote than to reiterate, so read the above post.
I kind of doubt that. There are usually renewel license agreements and if Perfect World did that, it leaves them open to RICO charges.

I really think NCSoft is in emergency 'cut wages and costs mode' to stave off hemoraging.
  3. I was expecting a lot more warning. I mean Virtue still gets 2 or 3 Atlas Parks.

Been a long time coming from the Beta and the 3 day head start.
  4. Isn't he part of the Avenger's now? And the civilian thing has actually happened. "I'll get them so upset at me that they forget the hostages!"

What is up with you are your alts that poorly slotted,or the people you are teaming with so bad at playing that you cannot succeed in this event.I have run it a few times now and we have always managed to take down everything thrown at us.Ok so you die a few times but you can defeat them all .And we had no team wipes most runs were pug groups thru the LFG button.
Why would I want to run what is basically mini-trials designed for more optimal characters that are hampered by being dropped to a fairly low level? I can see why they don't want level 50 Incarnates, but dropping everyone to level 29 basically made sure none of the 'squishy characters had all their Ancillary powers.

My SS/Electricty Brute got almost instantly killed against the Minotaur and archers. My Dark/Dark Defender started to get hit so hard that I was running from the lobby several times and when our friend DCed we ended up fighting three or four AVs from Casino and barely had enough damage/debuffing to defeat the AV after a long (and boring) grueling fight.

Yeah, sounds perfectly fun and peachy for 'casual' entertainment.
  6. I would like to thank the Developers a moment for throwing four to five Archvillians against four players, a convoluted set up that requires no one to DC and attacks that can two-shot brutes. Thank you for not wanting me to ever do events ever again.

Nope I am objecting that hybrid being inferior to dual and team inspirations.
And can only be earned by doing one trial over and over.

Me? I'm hoping for a *single team* TF level for Incarnate advancement. Not really thrilled with teaming with at least 16 people constantly. I'd like something that my friends in the SG can do.

It could be your "bloom" slider in the graphics options.
It could also be your "particle count" slider fi you are talking about particle effects beign too bright.

Other than that, you will need to provide more info, like a screenshot from before and one from after, for us to figure this out.
My monitor's brightness settings are changed from windows defaults and I have to go back into my nVidia control panel to readjust them back down from blinding levels after exiting the game.

It's your "gamma" setting in the game, likely. That is near the top of the graphics options tab.
Er, no it isn't. I've left my Gamma at 1.00.
  10. Or at least resetting it from my preferred values? And I certainly can't find any settings that allow me to change it (Used to be one a long time ago, but that got removed I think.)

    Any help?

Probably. Just them trying to make me spend money on stupid stuff. Which I won't do. I know *some* people think it's justified, but selling consumables like dual inspirations...

...just annoys me to no end. You should not be selling something that is going to have minimal impact that is *INSTANTLY* used up.

Super Packs are the most evil thing that Paragon has come up with to purely just rip off the players.

I hope they never put more costume items in the Super Packs. I hate that they put the one set in there so that you have to get a lot of stupid dross and crap to get the cool costume pieces.

I cared about it for a long time, and I even said that it was going to be used to screw over people that are just now getting into this relic of a game, I was right. I'm just not as vocal as other people, but I saw this coming a mile away and it was only a matter of time. Part of my guild quit when Phoenix came out for the 3 year vets or super rich only, and they were right. Don't assume I just came out of the blue with this, and I already proved I was willing to pay for the costume set, just not the pathetic price NCSoft is wanting. It's a sad day when Cryptic offers me a better deal than NCSoft, but now it's here.
Do people not realize how fast they can get to Tier 9 by staying subbed these days? I think my friend who only joined about 16 months ago is *only* about 18-20 months (if he doesn't buy more stuff) from Tier 9 VIP.

To make arcs or to play them?

I do try to play AE arcs. I find that the ratings in the game are useless - 5 stars typically just means a farm.

So I have to search for SFMA (story focused mission arc) in the in-game search or go to the AE board and look for arcs people have posted.

There are a lot of great stories in AE, it is too bad that more people don't play it.

For me the main reason I don't play it more is that it isn't good for teams. I am torn between wanting to play mission arcs, read the stories, read the clues and really get into it, and joining a team that just blasts through content.
The actual typing response in the AE UI was pretty lackluster on my old computer. And the UI wasn't the most friendly at times. I've actually created some content, but it seemed to take more effort than it was worth.
  15. Overall, happy for the 'loyalty' reward (eight years coming up!) but this comes across as almost like someone didn't quite get it.

The helmets are *only* helmets. You can actually used the Valkyrie/Ascendant to look a bit closer to the 'real statesman' look (half-helm over a mask), the aura doesn't look that great. The pet is about 50% too small (you can't really see how neat it is with how small it is) and the Statesman chest-logo has a non-colorable/non-tintable section.

On top of that, the Statesman helmet actually has little structural pieces attaching the nose-guard to the cheek-guard... FUGLY....

It's like they wanted some things and then didn't think that people would want to actually used them like the actual characters.

Added it to my "Charged States" character (an actual gender-bent clone of Statesman that I've had for a few years. A friend and I made a couple of these together.)

I'd love that! Have all toons have at least enough mag. protection (by lvl 40/50) to not be mezzed by 1 stun, sleep, hold, etc...

Less "demand" for Clarion that way (except for the UG itrial ). But unfortunately I don't see it happening.
Yeah, I never figured why they haven't tried this out. It seems like it would be stupidly easy to build a power of +1 Mag at 15th level and +2 Mag at 30th level and just slap it on squishie, underperforming characters and see if they play more fun and actually perform better.

+2 mag isn't going to really make a bit of difference to a melee character, but it makes a difference in not being stopped constantly by random-grunt-gun-butt to face.

The point is to discuss challenge in mission content and how to make things challenging for solo players, small teams, and large teams, without just turning on and off the AV button. That's not to say that we can't still turn on and off the AV button for future content, however. There was an excellent example in a previous thread of how to make things more interesting with a fight, which was that instead of the EB scaling up to an AV, the EB has more EB allies to make things interesting for a full team. I thought this was a great idea, and I’d love to hear more. What we’re basically going for is...

So! Here are the guidelines to that we need to set up for this:

    1) No flaming/putting people down; give each other useful feedback on ideas. Let’s keep this polite. Any insulting feedback to your fellows will be handled by Arachnos Laser Drones.
    2) Little to no impact on the art team or powers team. The goal here is to come up with ideas that are easily applicable to several scenarios.
    3) Stay on the subject!

I’ll be doing my best to reply to this thread, but keep in mind I also have work to do on occasion (when I’m not in the lab striving to make great science).
Well, probably the *biggest* problem right off the bat that is players are automatically at a disadvantage based on their AT, even if they are kitted in fairly decent builds (without taking heavy IO Defense builds into account.)

Basically it boils down to that not only do EB/AVs automatically hit harder and more accurately, they are essentially immune to minor mezzing while (if they have the right powersets) can nearly perma-mezz people without any mezz protection.

It doesn't matter if you have the damage, healing and semi-survivability to take a few hits if the first thing your foe does is tap you with a stun, drop all offensive toggles (which might have been trying to mitigating damage) and suppress all defensive toggles.

So take the Honoree as an example. He's Energy Melee, Invulnerability. That does sound bad? Except that with the amount of stuns in his punches he can pretty much tear a defender or corruptor to shreds if they don't have a full mezz protection.

There are *sometimes* situations where your melee character has a problem with a particular AV/EBs, but for 'squishies' that don't have mezz protection, its closer to most AV/EBs are something you have to go get a full tray (at 50th level) to have enough lucks to fight one 'hard' foe.

Really, ever since they change PvP to have no mezz protection for anyone (which was really the exactly *wrong* direction to take, IMO) I can't understand why *all* toons aren't given at least +1 mezz at like 15th and 30th level.

That would simply make players more heroic and feel that they are finally the equal to lieutenants and bosses.

Heck, I bet more players of squishies would actually leave bosses as bosses instead of downgrading them to Lts.
  18. Two of my original three-day headstart characters have never been re-rolled (Dark/Dark/Defender and my Dark/Dark/Scrapper, though I have to admit only barely making 50 a month ago on the scrapper.)

OTOH, my original Inv/SS tanker I rerolled two or three times. @%^@ Vaz and science origin used to really, really suck before level 10. I eventually rerolled as Inv/SS Mutant to get around it (and would love an origin respec! :P )

I really wish you would reconsider. HD 'tights' and patterns would be very appreciated by me, a very long time player. Even if it was just to make the seams of the outfits actually look like seams for the most part.
  20. Is it the Beta Server or regular test?
  21. Just sounds like the lowered the limit of debris left over on powers that leave things behind (like bullet casing for guns.) Probably is a performance issue change. Which means it may not go back.

Now remember though, particle affects is not the Ageia thing. That's the setting near the top of your advanced settings (Aegia FX (TM) blah-blah.)
  22. Huh. Make it so that you can't cast the snow-flurries if you are already within it? And one super-cedes the other (Older cancels the newer one?)

Ah, that's the 'guess I don't need to bother buying that pack, ever' nod from the developers.

Good to know. I can keep saving up my points to buy... something, I suppose. Not a weapon set (hate redraw) and I'm getting sick of buying costume sets that only have corsets for females.

Guess I'll have a lot of points to spend on *something* eventually.
  24. It is really good. Looking forward to it when I get my new desktop (gaming on my notebook kinda sucks.)

Just realized that 60% of the 'purchasable' power sets are weapon-set related. At this rate, I probably won't have to buy another power-set for months (as I *hate* weapon-draw.)
