Tights!
Incidently, I'm downloading useful images from our last thread for future reference, but please feel free to repost them if it helps to make your point here. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this would fall under the basic tights thing, but the patterns. I have an idea to allow for 3 colors, instead of tights+1 color detail.
Instead of having the patterns and the tights styling on the same selection section, have a whole different section for patterns, with two of them allowed under the section. I *think* this would be possible because the way the logos under Chest Details work. I think it would completely change the costume experience, in a good way, since all the previous patterns would be available, and you wouldn't be forced into using any at all.
Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
A) revamped old school/spandex tights similar to the ones we already have (adding a few details like seams but still mostly plain)
|
B) loose-fitting tights with folds (like you'd see in Golden/Silver Age comics)
|
C) modern super-hero tights (w/ ribbing, surface texture(s), subdivided surfaces) a la Ultimates 1 or Marvel movies. Some say that the Defense and Olympian Guard base textures cover this style fairly well. Do you agree?
|

Other random stuff:
*Face masks that are actually ON the face, rather than painted under the eyebrows, but keep the old ones.
*Better pattern mask resolution. The old ones are pixellated and misaligned.
*Fabric designs that work with many patterns are better than fabric designs that only work with one.
*If possible, some way to pick skin texture and tights texture separately, so we can have tights over reptilian scales, for instance.

I'll repost from the other thread:
A major thing would be to have spandex and masks not look like they were painted on - actaully giving them an edge to make it look like they were separate from out bodies would be great.
Another thing would be to have an option for the classic white eyes on the masks, rather than the more realistic eye holes.
If you do make this set, please remember that spandex doesn't follow curves all the time - spandex across the chest doesn't totally follow the shape of the breasts - it sort of stretches over them at the front, so a spandex top costume part shouldn't have the huge dip between the breasts that the current ones have - either using new geometry for the costume chest, or faking the effect with shading like the witch top or Mother Mayhem's top.

I'm not sure there's a lot to say about basic tights.
"Loose fitting" more or less covers what I'd want. Namely, the sort of look you'd have if you made the tights yourself on your sewing machine at home, instead of dipping yourself in a vat of latex.
In other words, treat them as lightweight clothes, not as elastic stretchy things that adhere to every contour.
For some variety I might be interested in something semi-midaeval looking like these:
Note how they bunch about the knee and how they are slim but not skin-tight. Upper-body tights would fit similarly around the elbow and shoulder, and across the chest.
Texture-wise, something that looks rough rather than smooth, metallic, or space-age.
More patterns would be welcome. Again, just google for mideaval tights and you'll find plenty of examples of colorful patterns that would be interesting for superheroes while still adhering to the two-color pattern requirement.
Firstly- On the note of tights textures, could we please get a woven fabric texture like what the Knives of Artemis have if it's not too much trouble? Doubly so if we could then apply this texture to various base costume pieces, tights, the sleeves, skirts, etc.
Second- Normally I'm against replacing old costume pieces, but I do agree that older tight coloring patterns and such could use a touch up. Many of them have blurry lines and are low resolution, though you seem aware of this issue.
Third- If it's also not too much trouble, perhaps we could get a "glow-tech" effect applied to some of the older patterns ala-Tron?

I approve of this thread.
Also, while you're at it, can you update the standard face masks/neck covers so the BLEND into the new tights? I rarely, if ever, use standard tights because the face patters/masks/neck covers do not blend to form one overall costume.
For tights:
I'd like to see "patchwork" spandex similar to the rough leather. Something that looks like it's been sewed together out of old spandex.
I'd also like to see tight spandex that's legs turn to bell bottoms, for females.
Also, for the tights that you make that have a zipper down the front, I'd also like to see an "unzipped" version.
Oh, one more... I'd like to see actual TORN tights. Not the torn that have a secondary color in the torn area. But a transparent tear so you can see the skin underneath, maybe with scars in the torn areas.
Also, if you want some ideas for tights and patters, check out http://www.highspots.com/wrestling-gear.asp?id=47. Tights are standard wear for pro-wrestlers and some actuall look pretty cool.
...
Finally, the one type of standard tights that I've been waiting for for years is the Andre the Giant style tights.

The Defense base texture is my absolute favorite.
I have always looked at CoH as a more modern super-hero type of game. A game that almost looks as if it's based off a live action modern super-hero movie...if you will.

Hey, folks. There's been some interest in the basic tights category lately, so let's talk about it in depth. If we were to make some new BASIC TIGHTS options for the game, what would you want to see?

In addition to that, I'd like to see assymetric patterns. It looks like a lot of the old patterns are not only low-res and hard compressed, but also covers one quarter of the bodypart (e.g. front right) and is then copied, flipped and stretched to fit the other quarters. We have on average about 30 times more computing power today; a full bodypart texture would only be 4 times as big (2 times if you cheated and mirrored front to back), leaving about 7 times more power for textures and higher resolution (15 times with mirroring).
Some very specific things I'd like to see:
- Please split up Detail 1 into Face Detail option and Detail 1 option, like you did with Ears.
- Speaking of Ears, add a "no ears" to it, please. As in completely covered by the full mask, like Batman. While at it, make "no human ears" an option to the existing non-human ears.
- Also, please make a pass on the clipping rules - there are still a lot of older cossie pieces that we can't combine because someone other than us thought it looked ugly (Trenchcoat and Large Robotic Gloves comes to mind).
- Speaking of trenchcoats, please add a Cloth texture to it.

No, seriously Golden Girl was right about masks. They really really really need to fix masks.
I use Stealth outfits a lot for modern texture feel. they need many more variations like that.
And the Andre tight. Just cause.
I would say before you add more costume options that could end up like mix matched pieces we have now....
You go into the creator and make a match for every piece that is in there now.
Match style and texture.
Where is the 'metal' version of Neck Cover as a glaring example.
Where is the male long sleeve to match tights sleek?
Beyond that.. you consider making any new options to be fully complete.

Full mask options -- the ones that cover the whole head -- should be able to have the same patterns as chest tights. Currently they have only mask-type patterns and it's impossible to make a character whose head is patterned like his upper body.
Also full mask (and other masks if possible) should have a "sleek" option to match sleek tights -- currently you can make shiny tights on the body but only matte tights on the head.

Theres pretty much two options i want for tights.
1: One that stretches over boobs. |
Just FYI, I don't understand this request. Don't all tights stretch completely over female's breasts? Are you referring perhaps to the pulled up zipper, or the corset?
I agree with the pulled down zipper one. In general, we needs a few more neckline options, imo, for both men and women.
The big thing that bothers me about all the old-style tights is that they really don't look or feel like tights. Part of this is just the flat texture and color masking, but it feels like paint, not clothing. White tights and white skin look exactly the same, and that's a problem.

This would allow cool things like keeping one's costume the same color/pattern-wise, but update depending on the "artist".
B) loose-fitting tights with folds (like you'd see in Golden/Silver Age comics)

Yes, I think this style is most represented in the game currently. I love the Defense and OG sets.

Stretchy fabric on the chest follows the outsides of the breasts, then the front of each one, but it doesn't dip between them and cover the insides of them as well - it stretches across from the front of one to the other.

The ideal set of tights I always wanted for COH almost came true with the new Elemental Order set. I say "almost" because the set wasn't treated as tights. IMO, the pants are rather fitting that they would very well fall into the "loose tights" category. (Or "leather tights", maybe?) The base of the Elemental Order boots, I say they're perfect to go along with tights. Unfortunately, tops other than a robe weren't included in the set or I'd have a really nice set of "loose tights" to outfit my relevant characters with. So that's what is currently ideal for me.
One request;
A lot of the current 'painted on' fake tights do actually server very well as various unnatural skin-tones on other costumes. So...this alls under the old 'getting rid of totally is bad' thing.
Since we don't seem like we're going to get any changes, updates and improvements to skin any time soon, I'd suggest leaving all the current options in, but under a 'Legacy' sub-heading (Seriously. CC needs more organised sub menus, period)
And then go nuts and do new mask (so badly needed it's not even funny) and, really, a mixture of A, B and C, although we do have quite a decent selection in C for now, so more of A and B for a bit?
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

White seems to have a terrible time representing anything that is considered tights whether it be the face or body. Please look into this.
Also some asymmetrical patterns for the chest and legs would be wonderful.

Defense is a nice look, but it could stand to be a bit less specific to the two patterns that it's designed around: Stripe 4 for torsos(which is currently not available for Female or Huge) and Stripe 3 for legs. Not that costumes designed around specific patterns is a bad thing, as it's used to great effect with Stealth, Defense, as well as the Alpha top.
But something a skosh more generic/less specific detail-wise would help all around, which I'm assuming, the Olympian Guard uniform appears to be. Detailed, but no underpinnings of a specific pattern.
