Tights!
Huh. This was something I was kind of secretly hoping for and never expected to be looked at by devs. Always one to impress me, NS.
Theres pretty much two options i want for tights.
1: One that stretches over boobs. 2: One with a zipper pulled down. New patterns would be nice too, specially ones which mix in with existing patterns. |

Things I'd like:
Fix the masks. This should be done for everyone, not as a paid-for expansion. I'm honestly surprised this ever made it into the base game, it looks so bad.
A shirt that looks like the retro jacket, with the buttons on one side. One version with a collar, one without. Many costumes had collars in the Golden Age.
A regular tights top but with a collar.
Fix the white tops so that I can't see my characters skin through it.
A WWI flying cap with the ear flaps. Have it usable with goggles.
Jodphurs.
One thing I would really, REALLY like is for Bioluminescence and similar tights with skin patterns that actually represent -skin- to be moved to a different category (Like a "skin" category or something. I know, bizarre name, right?).
That would let me put tights over a Bioluminescent character's body without covering their entire torso aside from the forearms, and open up a lot more things one could do with a character whose concept dictates lizard/wolf/bioluminescent mutant thing skin.

Seconding the suggestion of two patterns available on tights. It would not only allow for more than two colors on any given part, but the layering of having an upper and lower pattern would, as mentioned, allow for some really interesting/unique effects, like using Diablo and a top layer and Sharp as a bottom layer in a different color. I could give the character a black shoulder/neck cowl on a white body with red arms if I wanted. Or the stripe pattern as a bottom layer with the emblem circle as a top layer to create a sort of Statesman-like effect with the chest detail inside, possibly with unique colors of it's own. This alone would open up SO MANY OPTIONS it would be ridiculous.
As far as your suggestions David, I'd vote for a little bit of all three. A retouch of the current tights (keeping the old version as you noted) to look more like actual clothing (and hopefully done in such a way that we could FINALLY have white tights with skin that don't look see-through.) and if you have the time/ability, an option to have the same type of texturing to match body tights on face masks/cowls. Different material types (latex/metal/leather/spandex) would also be FANTASTIC. A few loose tights options ala Alan Scott Green Lantern would be nice for Golden Age toons, but would require alot of extra options like high collars with tights and various other campy accessories that it might be better saved for a pack all it's own. The textured tights ala Marvel movies would be nice too if they come with the material options and mutli-pattern options. In the end I think the most versatile option would be A, with basic tights upgraded, various materials and multiple patterns. It would make for the most prolific customization with (what I would assume is) the least amount of effort.
I'm also going to reiterate my desire to have brooches from the cape options as forehead decorations and waist decorations/belt buckles. This would allow us to give our characters a sort of emblem without it being a huge, gaudy, glaring symbol on our chest, but rather something more understated, like a belt with a crescent moon buckle, or a skull sewn onto our tights at mid-waist without a belt for a more minimalist look. The best example I can think of for a forehead emblem is this:
It's not elaborate, but we have brooches like this, and I imagine something similar to the tiaras for female toons, but without the headband part (Perhaps an option of forhead emblem with or without band?) so that my toons could possibly just have a gem set into their forehead or something of the like. It would make a very useful piece for more ethnic or possibly alien character. If I could have a toon with two pattern overlays and a crescent moon belt I'd be in heaven.
I'd like to see the old tights fixed in regards to coloring them white. Instead of it looking transparent, can we make it actually a proper white?
Also I'd like to have the option of using tights patterns on 'Tops With Skin' options. If there's some way to have the patterns overlay only on the cloth and not the skin. This way we could put patterns on t-shirts or V-necks [this in particular would give us the opportunity to make good use of the tops with skin for what Sapphic Neko was requesting for zipped down tights].

At the risk of repeating something that's already been said a dozen times here (as if that stops anyone else):
T-shirts
Not the male t-shirts that are basically spray-painted on with no texture, even at the neck and arms.
Not the female t-shirts that either show a little belly or a LOTTA belly.
T-shirts. With some texture and folds, maybe, but at least showing some sign of substance and stretching all the way down to the pants.
Thanks.

Oh another thing on tights - while you're looking at this issue, could you please give us a "star field/cosmic" tights, a la modern (pre-reboot) Donna Troy or 90's Quasar. Your Distinguished Competition has pieces like this in their store, and the effect is quite stunning. I cannot stress how strongly I would LOVE to see something like this for tights, capes, gloves, boots, shirts, t-shirts, briefs, etc.
On another note, I was playing on the Beta server and found the Valentine's Day club pack. It's nice stuff, but i was wondering why guys didn't get a "metal" tank top like the gals did. (You know the one, the top that corresponds with the skirt.) This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about earlier in this thread about variations/new patterns/textures for tank tops and tankers. I would very much like to have a metal tank top/t-shirt/tanker, etc.
This is the essential take-away, I think. Regardless of what we do, everyone's expressing a similar interest in adding realism/modern textures to these costume pieces. So we could potentially do a few things:
--revamp original tights w/ subtle folds, seams --add new tights w/ heavy folds --add new tights w/ other basic textures (leather, etc.) |
Quite a few of my heroes use the leotard look. Matching up the newer stuff with the old stuff (defense set top with the tights with skin bikini bottom part as shown below) just doesn't look right together.
I've seen you say before that the defense set can cover the tights options (and I like the defense set in general), but you can't really use it with something else when you're using something other than long pants tights on the lower half of your body. I won't use it anyway since I'm pretty obsessive about things matching up and looking right.

And this is more of a UI issue, but would it be possible to implement a "tops with skin" category for male models? The tights category is getting pretty cluttered since all the "with skin" options are thrown in there.

It's not about "fixing." Over and over, players have said not to take things away, so we won't. We'd only add things and simply leave the legacy stuff alone. In this case, maybe we'd add a highres version of the first example but not bother with the second since the texture's probably already as crisp as it gets.

Agh, the lead time on these initiatives is measured in months and already i can't wait to see what comes of it.

I'm seriously curious here, because if the pattern in that first image were sharpened up but otherwise left the same, I see no reason to keep the original around.

Hm. Well, I guess it's something we'll have to mull over if we undertake this project.

Ok...by "don't remove anything" do people really mean "leave that first thing in, even if you add a new pattern that is absolutely identical except for the higher resolution?" My beef is that the "new and improved" items that have replaced legacy pieces in the past were not identical. Rather than just making the piece higher resolution, the designers felt the need to "improve" it in some way, which some people didn't consider an improvement. Or is this just the devs erring on the side of caution?

So I was thinking to myself about one particular issue I have with using a lot of skin-showing "Tights" pieces, and that's if you're wanting to use a skin type other than "smooth human". For instance if I wanted my character to have the Bioluminescent skin, or the Organic Armor skin, or Reptile skin, I'm not able to use things like the Tank Top, Excess Plus, or Witch tops, because the skin is baked into the texture as smooth.
So I was gonna suggest here(since this thread seems the appropriate place) that you could make tops like these as body-hugging "Chest Detail" pieces that go over top of the skin. That way you would still have the costume part, but you could pick your own skin beneath it (or use another Tights option as well.) We already have very tight, body-hugging Chest Detail parts such as the Roman armor and the Barbarian Corsets, so theoretically this is something that could be done. Ideally these pieces would be available in addition to the normal directly-on-Chest parts we have now. And if this is something that's possible, all 3 model types should be looked at (Female, Male, and Huge) as they all have some pieces that show some skin, like T-shirts and Tank tops and such.

Here's something that's good for use with tights: Back emblems. Exactly like chest emblems, but on the back. They could attach in the Back Detail slot, right? I mean, it's not like you need both a back emblem AND any of the back details we already have, since a cape, backpack, or wings would just obscure it anyway.
Also, more emblems. I can't believe we don't have a simple teardrop shape to use. Or SHINY emblems! That would be so cool, to have your spandex or leather tights and then a metallic emblem that's still flush with the surface of your tights... or to have a version that glows in the dark, that'd be sick... okay I'm getting sidetracked here, I'll stop now
But seriously, emblems are such an important part of tights outfits that I feel this isn't really misplaced.

Pleaseplease do this. Or, alternatively, move the "skin"-looking tight patterns to a separate category, "Skins".

If older tight options are being updated, could some of the patterns be updated to have glowing options? The design team has certainly being have a hay day with glowing costume pieces, so let them loose on the old tight patterns as well.
Also, asymmetric looks would be great too!
