It would appear that everyone has it set up to disable sharing so there is a chronic lack of peers available.

Also any idea how things were resolved after the server merges a couple of years back if that left you with both Asmodian and Elyssian characters on the same server?
The EU servers, run by Gameforge, does not currently have the Fast Track Server. Gameforge is about 6 months behind NA Aion. Aion 3.0 was released in February in NA. It was released in August for Europe. They will be using the Fast Track server once they patch to 3.1, which should be sometime before January.

The thing with Gameforge's Aion is that they decide the drop rates/XP rates. So their Fast Track server might not be double XP values. It could be more or it could be less.

While it's true that NCsoft NA reduced the XP on the normal servers when they released the Fast Track Server, they did so because when 2.5 was released, they upped the XP rates to allow players to get to endgame by the time 3.0 was released. This was done so players could get as much 3.0 content in before 3.1 was added with new instances. Now that NA Aion is within one month of a Korean release, the XP now matches Korea and there is no need for fast leveling through with the Fast Track Server being the exception.

Since our XP now matches Korea, they added an occasional, recurring "Lottery" mini-game since Korean players have a lot more "gold/kinah" than NA. Our ingame item costs still match Korea and with things like Palace housing costing 1 billion gold/kinah, it's impossible for any NA players to seriously take part in the housing auctions.

According to the billboards you find all over town, Chris Jenkins is Paragon City's resident ambulance chaser, so make sure to give him a call whenever you lose a fight in PvP.
Warshades can fly in human form on beta currently. :/
  3. Yes, I know most people think of NCsoft as the big-bad right now. I'm not going to try and change your mind on that.

But I did want to say if anyone is thinking about playing AION or returning to it, it's gotten a LOT better than when it launched 3 years ago.

It's still a full world PvPvE game but for those that left due to ganking and issues with not completing quests due to PVP, they added a built in "multiserver" channel that removes all PVP from levels 1-50. It's called the Fast Track server and can be accessed from your main server. You can temporarily move your character to this server and level up with other players from the other servers. Kind of neat.

This Fast Track Server is also a permanent double XP server. So leveling to 50 is a breeze. Even casually, I leveled a new alt to 50 within 2 weeks. Of course, there is a lot more content now but nothing is level restricted. So you can still complete old missions or stuff that you "outleveled."

AION is currently in patch 3.1, but come October 10, patch 3.5 will be released.

They have added a ton of QA fixes and even more planned in 3.5 and 4.0. Also, you don't have to wait all that long for patches to roll out (at least on the North American servers as the European servers are run by a different company and takes them longer with localization). North America is now within 1 month of a release from Korea.

The biggest selling point, for me, is that it's Truly Free like Lineage. No subscriptions whatsoever. There is no gated subscription only content. Everything in game is available to everyone for free. The only pay-for items are the cash shop which have things like costumes, mounts, pets, etc. Nothing that really is needed.

Also, if anyone does try it out, look me up. I play as Blackbeard (Elyos side) on the Tiamat server as well as Blackbeard (Asmo) on the Israphel server.

Plus, Beastyle works there now, so there is someone that feels all of our plight as he's a longtime CoH'er.
  4. Dear WarWitch,

I want to thank you for giving me the inspiration to become involved in the gaming industry. Though I always reported bugs for fun, I never knew that it was something that could be a job.

When you had your own forums on your website, I PM'd you that the permissions were not set up to allow people to post to your messages. You replied back with, "Thanks for the heads up, QA Sean."

I had no idea what QA was, so I looked it up and saw that QA was Quality Assurance. It was like a light went off and I knew that was my calling.

Though I never was able to score my dream job of working as QA for Paragon, I never gave up and have used what I learned at CoH when applying for other companies. Without CoH and your knowledge, I'd still be wondering where my place is in life.

It may seem small and silly, but that one reply changed my life.

    Thank you!
    -Sean "Arachnos Commander" Godfrey
  5. I created the character "Arachnos Commander" on day one of CoV headstart, on Virtue. Issue 8 rolled out and then there was an NPC boss named Arachnos Commander. Coincidence? Most likely. But I'm still going to believe what I want.

Also, I was the very first VEAT. (see signature) :P
  6. Maybe there will be good news. I mean, it's at 10:30am on a Wednesday.
  7. Ok, so the reason I threw out those numbers:

I want to make it known what the players are willing to spend incase any potential buyers are looking at the forums. From the 79 people that voted so far, the total possible profits seen are $19,264.49 ... from just 79 people. These 79 people make up a miniscule portion of the playerbase.

While the 9 people willing to pay $1,000 for a lifetime sub, the 19 people willing to pay the $500 equal about the same as the $1,000 fee. While 51 are willing to pay $14.99 a month for $764.49, it would take 600 subscriptions to come to the same amount. Granted, the monthly subscriptions will equal more money over time, most companies aren't willing to look at anything unless they know they are going to get some quick money to recoup their costs.

I'd like to see more people vote, regardless of their current money situation. I'm not asking you to pay this amount, I just want to see (and want potential buyers to see) what the players think the game is worth for the continuation of the franchise.
  8. ... and a new publisher picks up the game, knowing what we know now about the future planned for CoH, would you be willing to invest $1,000 for a lifetime membership?

I ask because we all know that many games offer a lifetime sub for a substantial fee for quick funding. If another company picks it up, the chances are that they will have less funding after paying NCsoft for the IP and whatever fees it costs to Cryptic for licensing their engine. Then also take into the cost of the "secret project" that Paragon was designing (which seems to have been a follow-up title to CoH). And finally, there is also the cost of the new publisher to create their own studio as well as paying the salary of the new developers and HOPEFULLY the salary to get the Paragon Studios staff back to keep working on the projects.

Knowing that most longtimers have spent numerous thousands over the lifetime of the game, if a new company is able to get everything together, is $1,000 too much for a lifetime subscription knowing what will need to go into letting CoH live on?

    Quick update...

    Necrothread? Why not?
  10. So, I got an email back from NCsoft about refunds. What they said was this:

    Quote:
    Hello,

We would first like to thank you for your support of City of Heroes. It is never easy to make this kind of decision. You can read the official announcement at

http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/news_archive/thank_you.php. There is a discussion on the forums that you are free to join at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=295621.

For refunds of unused time or unspent Paragon Points, we will be contacting those players directly with information. Please watch the website for any official updates as soon as they are available.

City of Heroes will be available for at least the next three months. We are working on something special for our VIP and Premium players. As soon as these plans are ready, they will be announced on the website and the forums.

    Regards,
The City of Heroes Support Team

  12. It's dead, Tim.

Crashed and can't even get to the char select screen.

Now there's a message saying "Server down" while Virtue is unselectable.
  13. I found Waldo! Oh, nevermind. It was just Superman.
  14. I'd pay double. Heck, I would have paid 100,000 Paragon Points for a custom, one of a kind costume.

  17. 1.) Why Statesman and Sister Psyche?

2.) Were there actual plans for a moonbase?

3.) Why redo Dark Astoria and not the Shadow Shard?

4.) Were there any plans to reincarnate States/Psyche or have someone else take over their mantle?

5.) Why was Back Street Brawler's name changed to Back Alley Brawler?

6.) Can we get the truth on the removal and return of the 5th Column?

7.) When Lusca and Kraken names were implemented on the wrong characters, why were those not retconned?

8.) What piece of Lore did you really want to add early on that just didn't fit?

9.) Why was Weaver One never made a part of the game?

10.) Many Praetorian counterparts were never brought to life. Stephan Richter was killed off, Nemesis (as Posi mentioned at HeroCon) died as a clockmaker at an old age, etc. Why did you decide on killing some major characters off and making lesser characters more known?

11.) What was the giant "parking garage" in Port Oakes (in early beta) meant to be for?

12.) Who was the Toymaker (as he was hinted as someone from the heroes past but never expanded on) ?

13.) Was there any plans to make seasonal weather changes in-game? (In Port Oakes, if you got under the map, there was another set of mountains/hills under the visible ones that had snow covering them.)

14.) Was there anything in the Lore that Jack Emmert wanted but after NCsoft took over and he left, were they scrapped?

15.) Why did certain enemy groups get preferential treatment (meaning major story plots; Rikti, Praetorians, etc.) in storyarcs rather than expand others or create "new" enemies to face?

16.) Was Croatoa actually planned as a halloween zone then kept permanently or was that just a rumor?

17.) A bigger-than-giant 5th Column Mech Man was spotted in beta. What was the intention of that if it was never used?

18.) Was Grandville ever planned to be redone? In beta a couple of years ago, something was done where Recluse's tower, and inside the tower was all shiny and clean instead of the dingy grey/blue colors.

They still have the CoH/CoV shirts and posters for sale. I've already got those when I bought them at HeroCon. Really would like some new ones and would like NCsoft to see that people are still willing to purchase CoH stuff now that the Paragon Market is down.

    What do you all think?

    Kidding.

I'm a lifetimer in CO, though I don't really play actively any more. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something awkward about the controls that I never managed to get accustomed to.
For me, the thing that I dislike the most in CO is... block.

Block? Really? Being a super means that you fight through anything! Using block, to me, feels like you're weak.

Oh, another bug that I loved taking advantage of... >.>

Warshades could summon their Essences from defeated enemies. They could then exemp down and the Essences would remain at the level before exemping.

I would load up both of my accounts, hit the sewers, exemp my 50 down by teaming with a level 1 then run past any enemies after popping a couple purple inspirations. The Essences would insta kill the enemies and PL my level 1 on the second account.

This was fixed around issue 21 but it had been around since, I think, issue 4-5.
  21. For those of us that go there (I reluctantly made an alt there because I want to determine how my characters die.)...

Anyone up for a consensus on a backstory as to why we're in "Millenium City" instead of Paragon?

My "Arachnos Commander" is sitting in the tutorial until the plug gets pulled here, but this was my "bio" that I wrote up specifically for why he was in CO.

    Quote:
I watched it burn. I watched it ALL burn.

It was a surprise to the heroes of Paragon as it was to the villains of the Rogue Isles. There was no warning. In a flash, the "Coming Storm" washed through us like we were nothing. I don't believe, even with preparation, we had a chance against it.

By the saving grace of Mender Silos and his Ouroboros, millions were able to flee. We were removed from our own dimension and sent hurdling into thousands of others. Where I landed was a mystery until I was met by the one called "Defender."

In the Rogue Isles, I was a soldier. I was one of the few, hand chosen, by Lord Recluse to lead his elite soldiers into battle. For years I remained loyal to Recluse and the Arachnos until I was met with a cold dagger of a compatriot. My life flowed out quickly, as did my blood.

My love, the Countess, saw to my last wish and had my remains buried on a R-Class planet. Little did she, or I, know... the planet held the secret of resurrection and eternal life!

It was a colony of Nictus that raised my body from the ground and filled me with a hunger I have never felt before. I was hungry for revenge. I was hungry for power. Most of all, I was hungry for the love that believed I no longer existed.

My Nictus brethren brought me back to the Rogue Isles but there was nothing that remained of my life. My home... destroyed. My honor... defamed.

After months of searching, I found my love in the arms of another; in the arms of my killer. Without hesitation, I devoured the living essence of my killer while the Countess looked on in terror. She no longer saw me as her love. She saw me as a demon. She lashed out at me but I knew her fists could do no damage. Fearing her attack might provoke my Nictus Essence into feeding off of her life force, I fled... and that's when it happened.

I don't know if the Countess escaped the perils of the Isles. But I will spend my days looking to find my love and restoring my honor.

    Hail Arachnos!
Feel free to use the "saved by Mender Silos and the Ouroboros" part. I said we were sent off in different directions because I know that many will resuse their alts in other MMO's and might want to keep a story that ties them to Paragon City.

If, by some chance, another company picks up CoH (or TonyV gets to do what he hopes), I've got another part to add to my Champions Online bio:

    Quote:
    "Argh..."

With sweat dripping down my face, I roll over and check my alarm clock. It's 8:31am. "I'm late."

I get out of bed, shower, then quickly get suited up. "This armor always chaffes this time of years... hrumph!"

I snap my cape into place and put my helmet on. Being Lord Recluse's right-hand is a job I'm never thanked for... but it's still my job.

    "Hail Lord Recluse!"
  22. They most likely won't sell it for the same reasons they didn't sell Dungeon Runners, Exteel and Tabula Rasa. If the chance is there to make money on it with another company at the helm, why compete with a product you wrote off as a failure?

If people are on the "we hate NCsoft" kick now and it carries over to other non-ncsoft players, if the game was bought out you can be sure that you will have the entire fanbase flock to it along with people looking to help support it since the big bad wolf is no longer in the picture.

Yep. At least I believe so.

The first Bug Hunter was either for the bases (mostly for the ability to keep a hero in a villain zone if there were multiple Atlas Parks open) or for being able to get the character transfer beta to grant players dev access. I submitted those on the same day so it was never clear to me which bug got me Bug Hunter. I was more inclined to believe it was for getting Dev access, because they had already fixed a Dev access bug on beta the day before.

Dev access was granted to anyone that transferred an alt to the second beta server. But they cleared it. The one I found was transferring, in rapid succession, the same alt about 15 times from one server to another triggered some kind of dev/admin rights. I was just trying to see if I could break the transfer system by seeing if it could handle 15 of the same character transfers from one server to another. (I did this because other MMO's stated that you can only transfer an alt once every 30 days, so I figured there had to be something behind that.)

After I logged back into the alt, I had a new, tiny UI window on the screen. Had no idea what it was, so I did a /cmdlist and instead of the normal list that players see, there were a ton of Dev commands. Just for giggles, I tried the /goto command.

Playing my lvl50 MM, and knowing that a friend just created a hero and was in the Outbreak tutorial, I used the "/goto *friendname*" command and instantly I was teleported into Outbreak, as a level 50 villain.

Seeing that I could use /goto to get anywhere, I sent my MM on a tour of Paragon and collected ALL of the hero exploration badges. I was able to turn off collision so i could pass through buildings and war walls. Oh yeah, could also turn "dev" invis on, so was able to sneak past all of the drones undetected.

The last thing I did (which all of this took place in less than 45 minutes) was go into the costume creator and was able to recreate Tyrants costume on my MM. Tinkered around with the back details set, which was funny as some back details were face details.

I logged off and sent ExLibris a messge saying, "Shut down beta, I have dev access and here's some screenies." That was the fastest reply I ever got from her, with "OMG, telling production now!"

Within a few minutes, beta and LIVE was taken down and was down for about 2 hours that night. I remember seeing people post in the General Discussion area with things like "omg, we were given no notice! so unfair! not cool!" I felt bad because they took live down too.

Turns out, Ex mentioned that the transfer tool was linked with live. She didn't get too much into it, but I think the ability was there to queue a "dev" alt from beta to live via the ingame commands.

*Side note about Ouroboros exploit: it took almost 2 years (two years) for them to fix this. I sent this bug in on a weekly basis but no one took it seriously. Every dev that responded with said either "can't reproduce" or "looking into it."

Then when I got Ghost Falcon by the ear, I sent him the exploit and said "been reporting this for 2 years. get a level 25 to 50 in hours. 8 times the mission complete XP, inf., prestige and 8 orange recipes awarded."

The next day, got another email asking what alt I'd like my 2nd Bug Hunter on.

    tl;dr:
1.) yes, either I got Bug Hunter #1 for the base exploit or for a Dev access bug

2.) yes, Bug Hunter #2 was from the Ouroboros exploit that could earn one player up to 8 mission complete bonuses (depending on the amount of players on a team.)
