Peregrine Island Borders

So I was flying around PI, looking at some of the smaller islands to the SE corner, and instead of hitting the edge, I went to Talos! How long has that been in the game?

Since Peregrine was put into the game. Issue 1.

This.
An even better surprise is that at certain locations it can drop you outside the normal Talos Island map boundaries. (unless it was fixed.)
...Haven't tried that one in a while, BRB.

Just tried it and it didn't work anymore. Oh well.

This seems to always be the case for me... Huh, I hadn't thought to try and hit it at a different spot to avoid it... hmmm...

Well that is neat. I guess I've never done it before. Every other map always had the big blue shield, even if there was no War Wall. I assumed it had been added with Going Rogue, since Praetoria was done with the same sort of transition.

Huh. I got put in front of the ferry.

The whole "appear outside the map boundaries" problem started when they added the tech to keep your current coordinates upon zoning without a specific destination spawn point. Depending on which part of Peregrine you zoned from, your coordinates might correspond to different places in Talos, some of which were outside the war walls.

It was needed for the zoning in Praetoria to work correctly -- where all 3 zones were built from the same master model with the same coordinate system -- but was added to the engine a bit before GR. Previously, the game would just send you to 0,0,0. For Talos, that put you out in the middle of the water on the north side of the zone.

The PI->Talos bug was fixed a couple issue releases ago -- they added a specific transfer point for you to spawn at when zoning from PI.

..... I never knew this.

This was a feature I took regular advantage of... before the advent of Pocket D teleporter and Ouroboros teleporter and base teleporters. We'd leave a mission in Portal Corp and need to zone, and while the rest of my teammates headed for the ferry, I'd go straight east or west, depending which side of the map I was on, and end up in Talos before they did.

I haven't used this feature in a looong time.

This is a small imperfection in the map border in this area.

It's also the last way I know of (outside of dev hacks) into the "Matrix Room" below the Arena.

You used to be able to get below the map to get there by logging off at a submerged door on Monkey Island. The devs removed those doors and it no longer works with the few that remain (you log back in stuck in the terrain).

This imperfection allows you to get outside the war wall boundary though.
Do this while running. Flight will set you off enough that you'll hit the zone to Talos instead.

  1. Head to the extreme SE corner of PI.
  2. Follow north along the east wall until you run into a barrier (a small "corner").
  3. Back off just a little bit then jump up on it.
  4. Maneuver around until it lets you run outside the war wall boundary.
  5. Run to the easternmost edge of the map. You'll fall off and hit bottom.
  6. Open up your mini-map and select the Arena.
  7. Run (again don't fly, it'll cause you to pop back up above ground on PI) towards the arena.
  8. While you're below ground you'll see two large cubes. A blue one, and a smaller black one. When you're standing below it it looks like a blue square with a black square inside it.
  9. When you're below it, type /stuck. This will take you to the nearest door, which happens to be the Matrix room.

My original 50 is now in the Matrix room and will be there through the sunsetting process. A guy on my server had a taxi bot that was left there over the years and was showing it to anyone who was interested. Can't believe I never knew about it.

False. I was showing people that method as recently as the week after The Announcement.
