I don`t think I`m being unreasonable saying that I`m not impress based on what I have seen. I did try to explain why and lots of people don`t agree. Thats ok, doesn`t matter that much. To me it matters that GR is a payed expansion and I can make a very big list with already existing stuff that could have been improved/fixed. If I would have heard Positron saying that there will be base raids , new customization improvements and other stuff I already mentioned I would have said Great, just what I wanted. Giving me something I`ll never use like super graphics just makes me say "meh".
If it makes any of you feel any better, I am sorry for not following the herd spirit on this one. But i`m optimistic.

I doubt i'll be able to run it on ultra nonstop but i'll be damned if i dont go "ultra" once in a while even when im just chilling in say a zone or something. Totally worth the money so far imo!

Re the new powersets . . . DID YA SEE THAT NOVA?!?!

Also enemies not attacking until you attack them first is a new feature i believe in this game? Cant think of any ingame atm that does it.

I'm amazed at your ability to be so ridiculously wrong.

Be well, people of CoH.

Oh the irony of you making this statement is palpable.

Wait, so does that imply that only new characters who start in Praetoria can switch sides? Or can an existing character go to Praetoria for a while to begin the transition? I'm confused.

Anyone can switch sides - but there's a new third option to start off with, of being a neutral in Praetoria, but then chosing sides later one, around level 20.

More specifically, you start in Praetoria and choose your side within that area's content (Resistance or Loyalist) and as you progress through that stuff you eventually reach the end and choose Hero or Villain. The way they make it sound, it's like things are reversible at any stage, they just take work.

I do not believe MageX plays this game.
He/She/It must be a viral marketer.

"Where were these things announced?"

They have been adding it steadily over the past few years. If you PLAYED this game you would know that.

Remember he said something about being able to play WITHOUT the reflections and dynamic shadows. Praetoria except with current CoX graphic settings. No worries there, my friend.

Kinda peeved he showed off dual pistols rather than demon summoning

first of all, smart move calling it the herd spirit, make yourself look reasonable and not an arrogent elitist, good move. second of all, my contention is that you are suggesting that the video is" the best gr has to offer" nowhere is that suggested or justified, this is just what was cleared for information now.

I'm also unsure of your grasp of the degree of the graphics updates, dismissing them as just reflections. one of the most common dismissals of the game has been that it looks like a 5 year old game, to continue to hold ground in the mmo marketplace, they had to upgrade the graphics, and to be blunt, among people who have proven they know what they are talking about, such as billz, their reaction means a great deal more because they actually have a better grasp of the technical aspects of it than i do.

Finally you go back to the "list of improvements not added" again, how do you know? did we know about ssk before i16 went live? did we know about pvp ios before that issue went live? or the badge bars finally giving us numbers rather than vague bars? no, qol issues and smaller improvements come up over time and are almost never in the initial feature list, and keep in mind, we still have no official feature list.

so I will give you one thing, if the expansion were only what we have seen in this video, yeah, i'd be disappointed, but experience tells me that they never give us an exhaustive list of features of major releases before closed beta even starts , so i feel that its reasonable to assume that we haven't seen anything yet. if you have relevant experience that contradicts this, please share, but i would think id remember something like that.

This thread is no longer interesting. It was interesting when I thought there was a discussion to make, but if it comes down to essentially "They didn't give me what I wanted so it sucks!" then what's the point. About the only response anyone can give is to reply "NO U!" and be on his way

One thing I will say - hold your whines, people. The thing is over half a year away, and you know ZIP about it. This is going so far into Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch it's not even funny.

I kindda love how people are thinking the entire CoH: GR feature list is limited to:

2 New Powersets
Praetoria
Side Switching
Graphics Upgrade

If that was the case, CoH: GR would've been already in closed beta right about now since we saw ALL those features on Hero Con videos, and they were functioning pretty smoothly.

Just wanted to key on this paragraph alone: from watching the video, Paragon's new "Type R" programmers have actually done something very difficult and special. They've actually seamlessly grafted on current and next-gen graphics rendering technologies to a five year old engine with full backwards compatibility and it seems, many long awaited bug fixes.

The result is a graphics engine that is going to hold up for another 5 years, at least. It also means the most gorgeous superhero MMO is here. The models and world will look far more detailed and attractive (subjective opinion) than the competition. With the revamp, only DCUO has a chance to best CoX graphics-wise. Meanwhile, for those who don't have up-to-date systems, the game remains respectably attractive (running CO on my old iMac Core Duo is...well, not pretty, whereas CoX still looks respectable, thanks to its art direction).

Side switching opens a lot of options for playing with whomever you want on whatever content you want–something that has been improved over time, via Flashbacks, and now especially via the new SSK system.

Not to mention a whole new path through 1-20, which may or may not percolate some features to the heroes and villains 1-20 paths as well.

From the sound of the video taken during the keynote, there's a lot more to GR than what's been presented so far. Things are looking good from what's been shown, though my only question right now is just how much new content is being written for GR. While the new tech and features sound great, it may be hard to justify a full $50 purchase without 40 levels (with 41-50 coming later, per formula) worth of content. While side switching will help alleviate this, I'm hoping for more than just 1-20 content plus some TFs at 50.

If Paragon can provide a full 40 levels worth of content on top of side switching, I think that CoX will have a complete package that will be unrivalled.

man i wish an mmo would finally be able to make one, i understand that there are a significant numbers of issues that would have to be addressed to do it, but i wish it could be done. not sure i see it happening here though.

Right now, I think that my only potential complaint is the 1 - 20 level limit of Praetoria. That does mesh with the new player experience side of things...but we actually don't spend all that much time in the 1 - 20 level range(by the devs own design and XP changes over the years). So if it was up to maybe 35ish...it would make more sense.

There is still a lot we don't know yet though, so maybe content is being added to Blue and Red sides that fill things in. That's my hope anyway...time will tell.

Sorry so far im dissappinted also.

First off, we have known of atleast these two new power sets for sometime. I am seriously hoping these are not the only two new sets. And why the heck do we not have a Dual Pistols for Dominators. It would be easy enough to use the DPs from the new set, mix in a couple martial arts attacks and make an assualt set it would seem to me. But over all i would expect that they would take the opportunity of the hero-con to introduce more new sets if they were going to exist.

Secondly, graphics... ok fine, i understand wanting to update the system, but honestly just to add things that many players wont probably use, or dont care about, seems like a waste of time. If they truely wanted to see major graphic updates, then why not be working on COH2 instead of an expansion?

Third, IMO the whole Going Rogue system is NOT what they sold to us. I know not alot of info was released, and players start to read things into comments. But IMO the devs have for months now let the players live, comment, and post on these forums with the idea that we were looking at true side switching in GR. Not this half ***** system of basicly becoming an outcast.

All this new system will do is make everyone choose to be nothing. No more heroes, no more villians, everyone will choose to be a rogue or a vigilante because that would be the only way to play both sides. It basicly is just making the game one big co-op zone. I should be able to CHANGE my alliances, not just break my old ones.

Not just that, but this would be the best time in the world to finally just incorperate combining all the markets into one big pool acrossed all the servers. An opprotunity that is being wasted by again having the new origins still have to pay alleigences to either wentworths or the Optimus Prime trucks.

It just seems all this expansion is doing is... well basicly nothing. From what has been announced, we are getting a couple new sets, we are getting a graphical bump, but nothing more. 6 months before villians launced we already knew way more about the game then we do this, and suposedly this was to be as big of a content update as villains was?

I just know at the moment, i would seriously consider NOT purchasing this update if its not manditory, and would consider canceling atleast one of my accounts if it is. I dont want to be a darkish-domintor, i want to be a heroic dominator. I want to fall to the dark side, i dont want to trip into a grey zone.

Right now my money is in question, by this time this comes out i am likely going to be having to choose. Buying two updates for this, play DCUO, or Star Trek Online, or perhaps be close enough to Star Wars TOR that i dont need to be spending more money on this game to get benefits that we have been getting in free content updates for years.

Well, we don't know much about it. I would be extremely surprised if we were only in new Praetorian zones for 20 levels. My guess is there will be upper level content as well, especially since any of the higher up Praetorians are only fought in the 40s during the current game setup.

I'm excited for new early level content, actually (I like the whole ride from 1-50). It makes me even more surprised that they accelerated the first 24 levels again, if they are putting all this work into revamping the experience. I was basically annoyed that they put in the acceleration, as I saw it as a cop out from reworking the content and making it good... but then they are putting in that work. Most confusing.

Only other thing I can really quibble about is the continued separation of markets... not sure how markets are going to work for those starting in Praetoria either. They couldn't be crazy enough to make a 3rd market, so I'm not sure why they want to continue the separation elsewhere.

Otherwise, this is a good preview. Posi specifically said during his keynote that this is all they could say right now, so there will be more. No clue how much more, but there should be a lot of new missions, etc.

GR will either be the re-birth or final death for this game..........and I'm not sure which way it'll go yet.

But it has a lot of people very interested, and interested people have a way of being highly disappointed.

How could it possibly be the final death? It's an optional extra. You don't kill a game with new optional goodies.
