Quote:Though perhaps late to the game in complaining, i think his point is that it would be nice to have more options. Shards dont convert really all that well to threads, considering the majority of the threads you earn on any BAF or Lam run are from the merits and not direct thread drops and shards convert on a 1:1 basis.I'm going to guess that you really don't pay attention at all to anything. The devs are making more content for the incarnate stuff as well as coming out with new incarnate abilities. If they would have waited to put all of it out at once we would be waiting a long time for it. Also, you are late with the doom crying. This started about 2 months ago, give or take a week or 2.
His complaint, and i tend to agree, is that really with the alpha slot they allowed any level 50 content to allow you to be earning your upgrades for the alpha slot. However with the 4 new ones they limited you to only 2 missions. Will there be more? Yes probably, but when you consider how long it takes to just unlock the new slots (i would say an average of atleast 4-5 runs per slot) your farming before you ever get to the point of needing the slalvage.
If the Devs point was to have more content i would say thats great, but you also know just as I and the devs did, that people are not going to wait for that content, they will want their slots and hancers for them NOW!!!. So basicly it left the only options as farming 2 missions.
His suggestion was a valid suggestion. To simply allow any of the level 45-50 TFs to earn the benefits for the 4 new slots. That is what they did with alpha and it seemed to work ok. Honestly i agree. If threads were = to shards, they at the launch of the new slots they should have had converted all players shards to threads. Convert the recipies for the alpha slots to craft the salvage for those slots from threads and worked them all into the tables that way. Then had added the thread based reward system to any level 50 content in the game. Atleast that way you could run many more things and still be earning rewards.
As it was created it feels very much luck other MMOs that we heavily complained about. Maybe not in that only a few people earn rewards, but that the "End Game" becomes about running few instances for all the rewards that you need and everything else you could be doing is a waste of time if you still needed to unlock or earn those post game rewards.
The real problem with this as its set up now is that it will become harder and harder to find teams running those few instances that grant rewards the longer the system is out. I already choose to only really incarnate about 3-4 of my characters simply because of the repitition and they are the only ones i really cared about. As more people get everything they need the ability for newer players or vets with newer toons to farm instances to get those unlocks and drops will become harder and harder as people move away from doing the level of farming they are currently doing to catch up with 6-7 years worth of level 50s.
Which is why i agree with the OPer. Sure keep new content coming, but atleast set a goal for unlocking the slots sure, but have the reward drops drop doing ANY level 50 content, be it TFs, Trials, or even running standard missions. Keep the playing options open for people to play the way they want to and still earn the rewards which will help to ensure the longevity of not only the game but the end game reward systems as well. -
Quote:If the 3ds is any indication of a TV or movie screen using a direct no glasses 3d model it would never work for a large crowd or audience. Its just to personalized to having to hold it or view it at just the right angle. Dont get me wrong the 3ds works, but it couldnt be the main tv in your home in a neutral spot for multiple viewers.3D won't be universally accepted until the technology actually works for everyone. Right now, you need the glasses and that's a stumbling block. Also, many people get headaches or are nauseated by the effect.
There are designs for direct view 3D TV sets, but I can't say how good they look. As I understand it, they also have viewing angle and size limitations and aren't yet applicable to movie theaters.
All current 3D technologies depend on a trick -- presenting a different image to each eye -- rather than actually rendering a "solid" 3D image that you can view directly with your own eyes.
What's the difference? If you watch a contemporary 3D film and move from one side of the screen to the other, you'll see the same image from every angle. In a real 3D presentation walking from one side of the image to the other would show you the left side of a character's face in profile, then the face straight on, then the character's right profile.
The problem is, directors wouldn't want to use real 3D, because they couldn't control the exact presentation of the image to all viewers. They also wouldn't be able to play the "jump out of the screen" trick in a real 3D system that projects the image in a tank or on a stage.
When you come right down to it, 3D isn't really very important. When we view real life the 3D effect is extremely small -- our retinas are basically flat and the parallax effect at the distance we sit from a theater screen is vanishingly small. That is, the distance between our eyes is a couple of inches and we often sit 50 to 100 feet away from the screen. Only when we get really close to things do our eyes actually perceive two substantially different images.
Systems like IMAX give you a more immersive experience without the need for glasses. Being surrounded by the image gives a more visceral sensation than having sharks pop out of the screen at you. But that system has its own problems, too -- the curvature of the screen often distorts the image.
Until the distortion problems are resolved I'm not going to bother with 3D. And that's going to be another two or three generations of technology, at a minimum. -
Quote:I think this is exactly correct. Avatar was great in 3d, tron legacy what was in 3d was great. But most if not any other movies i can think of were actually filmed in 3d to take advantage of its benefits. Most cases a movie is being filmed in standard formats and converted just so the studios and theaters can squeeze out a few extra bucks. That is not worthwhile.Colour and Sound were both accused of being gimmicks when they were invented.
Just because we haven't seen 3D used properly yet (which is debatable, Avatar had amazing 3D), doesn't mean we won't.
The biggest problem so far is that most "3D" films aren't filmed in 3D, but converted... poorly. This is the equivalent of making a silent film and then dubbing in other actor's voices or making a black and white film and colourising it.
If you do a good job, it'll be fine, if you do a bad job it'll be horrible. Bad jobs are cheaper.
In most cases it adds nothing to a movie not intended to be filmed in 3d. Even as big of a star wars fan that i am, i am debating on attending those conversions. If not for the fact my son has never been able to see the originals on the theater screen, i probably wouldnt consider it at all. -
Quote:Yet most 3d movies are also being shown in 2d so i dont find that to be a substantial arguement.Actually, it's about combating piracy. Take your glasses off when watching s 3D movie -- there's no way anyone could record that and pass it off as even a marginally-watchable pirate copy. Stealing the source material does you no good, either, until home 3D becomes prevalent.
Its more a money grab for the theaters and studios. They can charge more for a theater to show a 3d movie (hence why now more showing in 3d are availbile then 2d this summer) and theaters make more money off charging you for glasses.
Personally next 3d movie i see im going to keep my glasses and then try and use them again. In my area atleast, they dont charge more for the ticket, they seperate the cost between a ticket and glasses, so personally i feel if you keep you glasses i should be able to buy a ticket and normal costs and tell them i dont want to buy glasses this time. Infact i am willing to bet at some point the encouragement to recycle what is a re-usable product is going to catch up to theater owners and some endevoring group of lawyers will see dollar signs in going after them in a class action lawsuit. -
Quote:I cant think of a situation that would make the doctor expect a living creature to be created only to be sacrificed for himself.Could be that the Doctor has himself re-copied at a later date, after he's had those experiences. Maybe he calls in a favor the Flesh owes him after whatever the Doctor does to resolve the situation.
Just saying i would guess the central idea of these two episodes is going to center around the idea of the real humans seeing the flesh as real people, and the flesh being upset that they were so easily killed off doing work for the humans. -
Quote:There are only 14 episodes and all are availible to stream on netflix including the movie. So a few years back I went and saw the movie "Serenity" Not realizing it was based on a TV show. I figured it would be a cool sci fi flick. I saw it with a couple buddies and happened to run into a couple other acquaintances there who were big fans of the show. After the flick I heard about the show, how it was messed up by Fox etc.
Over the last few years I've been hearing on forums, on the internet, from various friends and classmates about this show and how great it was, how Fox messed it all up etc. I was impressed by the movie but not knowing anything about the show since I didn't hear about it until the movie, I never really knew what all the fuss was about.
Recently I saw it advertised over on Hulu and have been waiting for them to cycle through the series back to the first episode. The first episode came available the other day, I watched it, I watched it again.
I totally get it now. This show is really cool, only seen the one episode but well written, original, has a fun spirit to it and I'm very curious to see more. -

Kinda looks like there is a cat eye also in the empty black area.
-
At first it seemed like Hollywood was more intrested in the 3d thing then the theaters. But both Thor and now Pirates of the C in my local area have had 3 theaters of 3d showing with one screen of standard 2d.
Personally im considering taking my glasses i kept after tron and trying to buy a ticket for normal costs. They list the glasses as a seperate purchase from the ticket costs so frankly that would emply to me that i can buy a ticket to be in a 3d theater without having to buy the glasses if i choose not to.
What we really need is all the liberal hollywood stars to start saying they wont be in a movie that goes 3d or they get some kinda ungodly bonus to their salery that makes it not worth the money. Base the movement on the waste of natural resources it takes to produce all those glasses that just get tossed. -

Quote:Possible but the family's reaction seemed pretty genuine to be faking it, and i just dont see him putting his family through that to have them not know.Just a thought (as I don't know the casting news) but what if the funeral was a setup to lure out the mystery bad?
The captain got off the last shot, and the ending scene with him left room for him to still be alive and easily have us believe he died.
I honestly didnt care for the cliff hanger. Not that the episode wasnt good, it was, and i enjoyed it alot, but i think if they wanted to cliff hang it the better spot would have been right when the merc showed up at montgomery's house. And then having the Capt call the girl to say to meet him at the hanger.
As everyone said they are not gonna kill her off, so really no cliff hanger to having her bleeding at the end of the show IMO. Now if you had dropped that bomb about the captian, had him fight about setting her up like they did, and then skipped that part where he mails the files and hides a 2 shooter, but show him call her to say to meet him that would leave a cliff hanger IMO. -
Quote:Not only that but it was a pretty big city. So the chance that the perp would come to his precient to be processed was lower. He worked alot at night when he wouldnt be on duty at the station anyway to be seen by the criminals when they got back there. I mean i guess if your just looking for a reason for it to be wrong then fine, but nitpicking this one aspect of the show when its something that comic books have just forgotten about forever? Not me it doesn't.
Look at it this way...the perp would have to state HOW Jim caught him. Namely, "This dude like totally tipped my car over! And punched through the door!". And let's be honest, Jim was not all that distinctive in terms of appearance. A slightly overweight, bald, white guy. No real distinguishing characteristics that would pass muster fingering him as the catcher.
Unless he was caught on camera doing something, of course.
Sure there are some full mask dudes like Spiderman around but if anyone really knew Hal Jordan would that little green splotch on his face really prevent them from knowning who he was? -
I find it funny how many people say or said that however superman basicly pulled a curly down from his bangs and took off his glasses and stood talking to people a foot away that knew clark kent intimately and no one seemed to have issues with this at all.
And actually during the course of the show one of the detectives did realize it was him. Of course he was eventually killed off. -
Ya ABC put out its fall schedule and it was offically not on it.
Its to bad that a bad super hero show can go 10 season on one network but a decent one cant go more then 1 season on another. Unfortunately the majority of the new season i have seen from most networks is going reality/contests/soapopera. Basicly i guess they only want the female viewers now.
No Ordinary Family had its flaws yes, but it was a fun show. It would have been nice to try and find a nice friday night/saturday night spot for it where it wasnt competing against a Glee type success show. -
But the trick of the flinstones always was basicly taking modern convience and finding a stoneage equivilent. Little mamoths that were canister vacums, birds as garbage disposals etc. All that being old hat now they are going to be faced with finding ways to make stoneage internet and computers, smartphones, ipods etc. I just dont see that classic FStone formula working anymore. Kinda like the Jetsons. We have really gotten beyond those "Future" gimmics being funny anymore.

Quote:Amen. So when does Fox get renamed Seth? I know there are masses who love him, but any time I have watched anything he does I find incredibly boring and showing somebody who is trying way too hard. The amount that is funny really doesn't justify the number of shows he does, nor the hype he gets for it.
Though i think that on a personal level the dude is funny, ihave seen him on shows like Real Time and such, i just really hate every one of his shows. They are really just knock offs of other ideas. And though i know there are really no new ideas left, he doesnt really improve on them much i guess is my only complaint. I find most of his shows try to go over the top so hard that they just lose any sense of being funny. -
Quote:I thought about this myself. On one hand i think it would have been cool to see say Baker's console room. But from a budget standpoint it was probably alot easier and cheaper to rebuild Tennants since it was most recently used even if it was set afire. Then to rebuild one long since gone.My one major problem with the episode is that when they were going to an "old" console room, I was expecting/hoping for one of the OLD console rooms.
After further thought i also wondered how well that would go over. And I thought of Star Trek. Like remember when those episodes would come out where they would use the old style sets from the 60s? Im thinking that tribbles DS9 Episode or that Scotty episode on TNG. Those sets though consistant with the sets used in the 60s looks really bad now. I mean those sets looked really bad just comparing them to say the consoles in the 60s space capsules really. So as an after thought I really am glad they didnt and stuck to the idea of even in time travel they stuck to the commonality of todays values of production design. -
Quote:Though i didnt find it depressing since the timelords have all be dead since i have been watching the new shows. However that was kinda a neat little bit when Amy tells the Doctor he wants forgiveness. To be fair i think that is the first time the new doctor has even touched on that thread since maybe the ending of The Beast below from last season.I did find the episode to be the most depressing one to date though. Somehow it brought home the death of the time lords and The Doctor being alone in the universe more than any of the previous episodes have done.
And yet it leaves an opening for the return of time lords. We have a planet that completely devoid of life. Yet it contains a metric buttload of rift energy, multiple time lord body parts, and multiple tardis parts. And it's outside the universe which means that it's universal laws are not necessarily the same as in our universe. Those time lords just might end up regenerating like The Doctor's hand did. -
I liked the episode alot. Though at first i had a problem like someone else mentioned with putting the TARDIS into a body, but as the episode progressed i minded it less and less. Infact i think by the end i rather liked it. I think they handled it just right also in that really everything she did was really related to being the tardis. It would have been alot worse IMO to have the TARDIS longing to keep her human form and so on as they could have done.
"The only water in the forest is the river." cant help but think that means something especially since there was no other sighting of the eye patch lady or other forshadowing in this episode. -
Took my son to see it who enjoyed it alot, but he asked me a question to which i dont know the answer as i was never huge into Thor comics.
And honestly its pretty obvious question and surprises me i didnt ask it to myself. But in the movie i guess the suggestion is that Odin is passing on the crown to Thor. But if Odin isnt dying then why is he passing on the crown. If he simply gets weak, goes into whatever that sleep chamber is and comes out why is he never not the king? The movie implies that this isnt the first time he has taken part in the "Odin Sleep" or whatever they call it. Just that this is the first time he has waited so long to enter it, and being weakened they dont know how long he will be in it.
Can anyone out their explain this process and i guess the rules of sucession in Asgard? Why would they need a new king if all Odin ever did was to take a nap? -
Quote:Though it might not have ever been spelled out im pretty sure the idea was that Banner was working on a project that he believed in, but was being maybe secretly backed by the military for their own purposes.I've watched the new Hulk movie several times, and I can't remember any part of it that says his accident was due to trying to develop the Super Soldier Serum.
Abomination got created from combining Hulk's DNA with the Super Soldier serum the general had on hand, but I am certain that they never said Banner was working on Super Soldier Serum in the movie.
Kinda like he was looking for a way, as someone mentioned, to give people increased resistance to radiation posioning, which had military implications that he didnt fully comprehend at the time. -
Quote:Honestly in watching NOF this season it really just went to show me what more smallville could have been and missed out on being. The family was all trying to come to terms with powers, just like Clark should have been. They had the teenage angst thing working, the corperate evil overlords etc. And almost every effect shot in NOF was 10 times better looking the smallvilles, and when they had a fight, they fought.Hell, the fight scene between Jim and the Teleporter in NOF in the first epsiode was better. And that was the first ep! You'd expect something massive for the sendout of a 10-year series. But that's about par for the course for Smallville. Don't get me wrong, I've liked the series and have most of the seasons on DVD, but they could just as well put up a black screen saying, "And then they fought. Clark kicked his butt. The End".
If superman was suposed to cause inspiration in people to throw off the omegas and defeat darksied, then fine. However nothing in this episode would have done that. The final fight should have taken place on the street in front of people, news cameras etc. Been essentially a world wide expereince through 24 hour news channels and such. Had superman and DS basicly beating the crap out of each other to no avail, having neither of them really winning. Finally superman offers to sacrifice himself if darksied leaves earth alone. (much like he offered himself up to Ollie to do"The right thing") This willingness breaks the omegas lessening darksieds powers giving clark the advantage to then trown darkS back to apokolipse and allowing him to push the planet back away.
Atleast that would have made sense. Even if was an abreviated fight. The problem is the smallville writers suck. They cant write a series that elludes to sacrifice or bravery, they have to bat you over the head with the themes in long drowning speeches about it and then drop the ball when it comes time to portray it.
To bad they should have gone to see a preview of thor quicker, thor v the destroyer was much more a better example or writing and story telling that smallville was going for then they did with 10 years of lead in time. -
Quote:ya well neither were the show writers. Some one is not so awesome at math
the finale served its purpose, We got to see him fly.. put on the suit, accept being Superman.
People want a Movie block buster budget to do things that can typically only be done in movies.. in a TV show with a MUCH smaller budget is totally silly to use as a crutch to expect such things.
He pushed a planet.. they did the best they could, we also say him in space.. it was great.
The playing of the Superman Theme sealed it for me.
Next election is 2012. Then plus 4 years 2016, then plus 4 2020. Lex was elected as president in 2018 according to the TV report. -
I was really hoping to be wrong. But ya 10 second fight with Dark Sied, or the embodiment of DS, so honestly even faster then the doomsday fight, unless you count the 10 minutes he spent frozen in the air having the flashback. And im sorry but really... I mean REALLY were gonna go with pushing a planet away? And lets not get into the idea of 3 arrows stacked on top of each other vertically all going horizontally at a different angle. I mean could you seriously not alteast have thought to have him holding the bow sideways like a gansta?
Seeing lex again was kinda cool, however doing a mind wipe with magic juice not so cool and infact really IMO ruined the whole thing. About the only thing that made the CGI of superman look good was the comparison to the Darksied animations but really all the cgi in this episode was pretty terrible. And i guess just call me crazy but the omega symbols and everyones heads was causing a gravitational pull of the planet?? That is the ******* retardest thing i have ever seen from this show and that is saying alot. Then on top of that even with that we can simply push the planet away before we break the spell of all the omegas?
I mean seriously if BSG's ditching technology felt like being violated with a handle of a baseball bat, Smallville just turned it around to use the big end. -
Quote:Which if i know this show none of which will be in the finale but were just thrown into a passing by scene to cause nerd gasams and eventual disappointment.>.> btw did you guys see the villain group?
Captain Cold
Roulette
Toyman
Dark Archer
Black Manta
and Solomon Grundy?
Sorry this show needs to end. Its suffered from poor writing and acting for some time now. Seriously think about it, we have spent now 20 episodes of this year waiting for a Dark Side battle. We have had 20 hours of TV and gotten maybe 2 crappy cgi shots of DS, introduced 3 villians of his that have had little to no development since introduction and 1 cast member has a omega imprint on their head. That is pretty much all the development they have done to their final seasons story arc in 20 hours. And i thnk about 4 hours had been devoted to weather or not clark should wear glasses or not.
Now because of the need to give a final handy to the fanbois they are taking the last 2 hours cramming into it the return of lex and the final battle with darksied, ya im not holding my breath. Infact im more excited to finally be rid of it. I know i can stop watching but call it a personal defect that i cant give up on a show i have watched so much. I had the same feeling about the last couple years of the Xfiles also. To much time invested to quit it even though it was sucktacular.
But seriously with all the Darksied stuff, they havent even introduced the planet apokolypse at all, not development of his staff or subordinates, no development of his wanting to turn Superman into one of his to control and follow him. Nothing, i mean has the ****** CGI darksied even said a word yet at all? What should have been a epic final season is just going to be a 30 second Doomsday fight again.
