I am hoping you guys are consumed by making NEW stuff. I don't get why people beg to have the same powers on all ATs. Make them unique and individual. Please no more adding the same stuff in a new wrapping...please...I beg you.

It is entirely possible that Positron wasn't being entirely truthful when he claimed that Castle and his team didn't have time for Powerset Proliferation in Issue 13 because they were completely consumed by the Custom Critter Creator. If we are getting Power Customization, even just the ability to change the colors, then it seems that Castle and crew have been recoding all of the powers in the game that have a visual effect.

I can see how an undertaking like that could get in the way of Powerset Proliferation.

Castle and his crew were entirely consumed by custom critter powers in the 13-14 time frame. There's no dishonesty or secret agendas...there was just a lot of work that went in under the hood for Mission Architect.

There wasn't any time for powerset proliferation then, and with the work being done for future content, there's not really a lot of time to do it now. Proliferation is very low hanging fruit, but we're really jammed right now and I honestly can't say when we might be able to squeeze in another batch. What we need always ends up taking precedence over what we want, and right now there's a lot of need.

[/ QUOTE ]

I didn't mean that in an "the Devs are lying to us" kind of way, sorry if that came across. The understanding we have is that a lot of stuff that is going to be going into Going Rogue has been worked on for quite a while behind the scenes, and you Devs have needed to play it very close to the chest so as not to tip your hands too soon.

In that light, I think it is perfectly alright if one of you says "Castle and Crew have been working really hard on the Custom Critter Creator, so there is no time for Powerset Proliferation this time around" when you really want to say "Castle and Crew have been working really hard on the Custom Critter Creator AND something you guys have been asking for for a loooong time, but if I even say that much the Marketing guys will kill me, so there is no time for Powerset Proliferation this time around."

I completely appreciate all of the hard work that all of you put in to make the game that I love to play. I also understand that the impending competition, in addition to the tendency of the playerbase to to take an idea and run with it, means that you can't always tell us what it is that you are working hard on until it is almost in the can.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Because they play differently on other ATs, and different people like different ATs, and hate others. For example, I like Ice Armor, but can't stand Tankers; I'd love it if Brutes or Scrappers got a version. I also usually solo, so team-focused sets tend to be useless from my viewpoint - unless they get ported to an AT with pets.

Maybe not, but I prefer being treated like we're mature enough to know the truth, no matter how often we act like we aren't.

For me, some tidbits of what is to come is usually enough to keep me calm and not scream MOAR POWAHS plz.

Going Rogue was kind of a nice tidbit, though a more solid planned issue release would certainly be nice. I don't mind waiting when I know I'm getting something nice.

/e wait.

If power customization occurs, Castle and the Powers Team probably won't get involved much, if much at all, until the very very end (in terms of specific implementation). Most of the work will initially involve the code team to add the tech for it, and the graphics team to create the user interfaces for it. Then BaB, anyone else fluent in tools, and the other graphics elements people will have to create the resources for it.

The custom critter features of the MA were much more squarely within the realm of what Castle's primary responsibilities are, and would have more directly diverted resources from any attempt to proliferate powersets, which is also squarely within Castle's (and the Power Teams's) area of responsibility.

Keep in mind that there are powers people (i.e. Castle, Sunstorm), coders (pohsyb, ghost widow, the dark watcher), graphics people (Sexy Jay), animation people (BaB and all the voices inside his head), reward system designers (Synapse stepped backwards slower than everyone else here), as well as UI designers, story writers, producers (Ghost Falcon), and others. Some people clearly work on multiple things (War Witch), while others no doubt specialize much more. Individual projects require differing levels of resource expenditure, tapping different groups of people in different ways.

OMG, this means we're finally going to get an expansion for farmers: Orchard of Heroes

Finally, we get to plant and cultivate trees to provide us with fruit that we can use to make various fruit-based products, which we then must transport across state lines, dealing with villainous tariffs and interstate export laws, finally getting our big payoff when we successfully deliver our products to Paragon City.

I'm totally preordering the OoH expansion as soon as I can! Can I get in the beta?

Latest Dev Diary!

'While all of these added customization options are part of the immediate content going into Issue 15, it's really only a sampling of a much larger picture - as hinted by the recent announcement of the Going Rogue expansion. Our players can expect to hear some very exciting news about the new, much larger systems we've been working on to support and expand the customization aspect of City of Heroes within the next few months.'

(sorry to skip to the end, but, well... )

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't remember what interview it was, but some one asked about Power Customization in one of the recent ones and Positron said something along the lines "all i can say is Power Customization is something we were not able to do when we were still under Cryptic, that's all I can say at the moment."

So yea, I bet Power Customization will be one of the big selling points of the upcoming expansion pack.

You bet your bottom dollar it is going to be in that expansion pack.

4.) Character Creator 2.0 includes Powers Customization, allowing players to customize not only the character, but also the actual look of its powers

Everything from that leaked august 08 survey, has already happened or is coming to fruition....there's no reason not to believe that it's not.

And I bet the Going Rogue Comes out right around Champion's Release.

Even though power customization would likely be a cool feature (depending on how it's implemented) I would be a sad panda if I couldn't recolor the powers on my Rad Blaster the day power customization went live.

See what I'm getting at?

Responding to the "too little too late" comment made earlier.......

It's just my opinion, but some people still would have gone to CO, even if we did have everything anyone ever wanted, just for the fact that CO is new.

And I'm not saying that it's how the poster is, but some people are quick to jump onto something new and wish death upon the place where they came from. (From what I see on the CO boards when I read them, they want this game to crash and burn, and see CO as the end all be all of future MMOs. I don't see them comment too much on DCUO.)
