Now that the technology is in place, Issue 15 is our first opportunity to provide a number of more universally themed costume change emotes as part of a regular content update for all of our players. It's our goal that everyone, even those who didn't purchase the Magic Super Booster Pack, will benefit from the extra time and resources that we've devoted to creating these booster packs.

Well, you can compare Vines and Ulterior to, y'know, the content of the Valkyrie and Magic packs for starters, and see which one[s] have vastly superior content.

Because me, I view Magic as "good stuff" and tights patterns as "nice, okay stuff... but not stuff that knocks my socks off." Never said that we're never, ever getting any more costume pieces for free.

What i did say was that we'd most likely be paying for all the "knock your socks off" stuff; I see nothing here which makes me want to amend that. Nor do costume change EMOTES stand in for free costume content to me. If your mileage varies, have at it.

Hint: I didn't buy the Valkyrie pack.

The thing is, "Knocking your socks off" is entirely subjective. I know a few people who wern't happy with the past two booster packs, while I loved the cyborg pack.

Nice to see your shifting definition of "the good stuff" continues to evolve, now numbering all new animations among the things that don't count.

*thumbs up*

One would think free stuff being added as a direct result of booster packs, stuff that wouldn't exist without the income generated by the packs, would loosen the rusty hinges on the decrepit gate of your argument, but I've clearly underestimated your powers of adaptation.

No, you are changing my argument. My original supposition was that we would pay for most, if not all, of the best, most interesting new COSTUME stuff; I've never once speculated about stuff such as emotes, which ranks very low on the totem-pole of stuff I really care a lot about.

If you know otherwise, you can produce the quote where I was talking about anything other than COSTUME PIECES. Nor have I ever said nothing would ever again be added to the game unless we paid extra for it. Proof or it never happened.

If new costume changing emotes crank your tractor, then you will be one happy camper, and good for you. But really.... I expect more from you, 'goat. This kind of attempt to shift your opponent's argument into something it never was to suit your own purposes is something I'd expect to see out of some light of the forums [snicker] such as "Darktyger," I gave you more credit than that.

This argument played out over another thread, as you well know.
I'm referencing comments and ideas from said thread and not limiting myself to one specific post in this particular thread.

You are of course free to pretend the past never happened and has no influence on how people perceive you & your arguments. It isn't the best course of action, as other people do tend to remember and value it and it will keep coming up at the most inopportune times.

But to each their own! =)

Ignoring it at this point makes no sense to me.
They've all but come out and told us it's going to happen, including the none too subtle hint in the GR trailer of that gal's fireball changing from red to blue.
Occam's Razor is on the side of customization.

[/ QUOTE ]

Logic would dictate that's probably true. Experience, on the other hand, dictates that it's too good to be true, and even if it IS, it'll come either with a fat catch or severe limitations. Old wounds remind me not to get too excited about things BEFORE I see them. At this point, I'm sold on Going Rogue. How excited I am about it will be determined AFTER I see it.

I'm certainly hoping we'll see the level of customization I've always wanted, but I'm keeping myself from being giddy.

Speaking of circumstantial evidence, though, it's becoming pretty evident that this is as close to a sink or swim time for City of Heroes as we've ever seen. With the first real competitors just around the corner and a game that's already showing its age, I dare say this expansion was all but inevitable. I still maintain that City of Heroes has more promise than anything I've heard about the competition, but I won't deny an ageing game is ageing. Still, it wouldn't take much to make it competitive in my eyes, and I strongly suspect the developers are looking blow our minds, as it were, which might about the biggest thing ever.

Pssst.... yeah, and notice: we paid for all of those pieces, at least those of us who bought all the packs paid for them.

Never said, "All pieces included in new costume sets will be loved by and regarded as cool, by all!" what I did say was, "if its really really cool and you want to wear it... smart money says you're probably going to be purchasing it." Not the same thing.

How is power customization on the side of Occam's Razor? I think it's in the pipeline as well but Occam's Razor states that of many possible explanations, the simplest explanation is most likely correct. The player base's speculation and reading way too much into a marketing survey, a color changing fireball, and a couple indirect devloper comments is a lot simpler than the developers implementing power customization in my opinion.

And how many emo fans actually listen to that band? Old goth bands are nowhere near the top of their playlists for most of the emo types i know of currently.

Goths (though perhaps not the "black metal is real goth" crowd) would be more likely to listen to "cure" than any emo.

This is the more general thread response portion:
Anyway, i find changing animation speeds/times, or even just changing power animations, to be terribly unlikely as a customization feature since it figures so heavily into power design and balance. i do expect there might be color and other effects customization, but i'll wait until i hear more about what will be in Going Rogue before i actually expect it.

I think you're misusing Occam's Razor here. We have the survey, the color change, some indirect developer comments as well as some more direct developer comments (today's count as more direct, Posi's longstanding comments on customization are indirect). What are we to draw from this? A paid expansion would be a good way to introduce more customization, and just today we have been told we will be hearing more in a few months. If imminent customization isn't the simplest explanation, than what is?

All things Occam aside, also keep in mind that power customization to any degree would be a huge selling point for the GR expansion, even for folks who have asserted they are not the least bit interested in switching sides!

No one's saying that Power Customization was ever going to be easy to do. The Devs themselves have always led us to believe it'd take a very long time and a possible full blown expansion's worth of effort... Precisely what Going Rogue now represents.

Normally I would be skeptical of the merits of a Marketing Survey released for a game 10 months ago. But if you go back and read it again now you will see how remarkably predictive it was of the details of the Mission Architect, many months before that system became a reality. Based on that validation I see no reason to downplay what it has to say about the expectations for Going Rogue.

Like the rest of you I will believe in Power Customization when I see it. It'd be -easier- to assume the Devs of CoX will fail to provide it to us. But in the light of upcoming MMO competition which boast of their Power Customization features I think it would be very unwise for CoX not to at least try to overcome that limitation relatively soon. I'm willing to remain optimistic enough to hope we are closer to having it here than ever before.

It doesn't matter if a player like me -actually- thinks this about those other games or not.
What would be good for us is if our Devs BELIEVE we think it's an important enticement to lead us astray.
Here's for doing my civic duty adding to the propaganda.

I know it sounds harsh but I'd rather our Devs be manipulated by us into thinking those games are going to be the best things since sliced bread and react to them as such even if they actually aren't...
