A few months go by and it's early 2006. I decided to download the free trial for CoH, just to see what blueside was like. I roll up a hero, fiddle around, and expect it to only be a temporary experience. 14 days come and go, though, and the free trial never ran out. I still had access to my existing heroes and could even make new ones. It stayed this way for the full year and a half before Cryptic left and the two games merged. I'm assuming NCSoft couldn't tell CoH was only a trial since I had a subscription to and owned CoV.

So I glitched NCSoft out of one of their games.
...and that's why NCSoft dropped the game. Thanks a lot, jerkface.

I didn't report clones.
I didn't understand why so many people who played SWG were upset about it being shut down until August 31.

I tend to agree "game closing? man up, its only game..."

I did report clones....and well...I sometimes made them...though I tried to be obscure as possible.

My favorite heroine was Mary Marvel, so I made an evil Mary dressed in black named Teth-Mary. Never got caught (amalgam of Black Adam and Mary Marvel)

It's not only a game, though. It's a community and that seems to be what hits people harder. With SWG I actually disliked everything I heard about the game, but my WoW guild started up after SWG died and many there were still upset about it to some degree even this past year (had a talk about it in TOR).

As far as games, I have plenty of games to play. Only one CoH community, however.

Did you read the storyline in which Mary Marvel got power from Black Adam and was then possessed by one of the New Gods?

I emailed Posi with the Eden exploit (5-10 minute runs from the zone-in, tp through walls and just kill Titan) and we traded PMs forever but nothing happened until one day...the recipe rolls got replaced with Reward Merits.
Law of unintended consequences and all that.

Once got Exit to sing Righteous Brothers on Vent, which was pretty sexy.
Once got Syphonics to sing Chocolate Rain on Vent, which was not sexy, but frightening.

I once didn't heal Trezen in a pvp practice with dUmb just so I'd hear him scream on Vent. Always did my best in matches though.

When you could still get "Hall of Famer" or whatever it's called early on without too much difficulty, Beef Cake and his million accounts made an arc about beer, invited us all to vote for him so we have most of Pinnacle and other servers spam voting his arc. Eventually I think we got him to Hall of Famer before all the badges were zapped.

Speaking of Pinnacle, X-Funk (his name comes up a lot in this silliness events) got bored one day and decided he was going to try and shut down Warburg farms across servers. Since he knew I had a ton of alts on Champion, he asked me to be a spotter over there and he'd maybe split the ransom with me. You see, X-Funk figured he could ransom people's farms and it almost worked. Threads popped up on every server forum chiding him, people were raging nonstop and I think Ex Libris (or was it Lighthouse) actually started getting exhausted from it all heh.

Nothing major here, just a bunch of pve exploits for the most part.

I happen to be friends with the person who spammed every section with 2 Girls 1 Cup a few years ago.

I wasn't at the time, but years after that happened, it for some reason came up in conversation, and they casually mentioned it.

"That was YOU who did that?!" was my response. I'm still somewhat bitter.....I saw the video and couldn't eat for two days.

I was a beta tester. There used to be no limit of Aggro from snowstorm. One day I put snowstorm on one 5th column NPC in Independance Port. He ran accross the bridge away from me. When he came back he had more than 50 NPCs following him. It was like the Boston Marathon of Evil. I panicked and started running for the exit.

Fortunately I was the only one faceplanted from this. Later on I found on Tornado also had unlimited Aggro.

i thought there were no aggro limits in the early days. You could herd most of a zone with one debuff toggle to the point that the client was only drawing a few of the mobs that were there and kept cycling through them so that different enemies were flickering in and out of view.

One more confession from me:

I have NEVER completed a Master Of badge on a team. Literally every one I've ever gotten has been solo (starting with two MoITFs, both completed in under an hour by different characters).

Oh, and if I really tried, I probably could try a Master Of badge on the final TFs. I've never managed to do them without a death though.

So yeah, my favorite thing to do in the game is to plan out a build, and solo stuff made for groups and leagues. Especially on characters without buffs and debuffs (yes, I know a Robots/Traps MM can do everything my TW/Elec can do, and more, but it feels like more of an achievement if I do it without the games most abusable system).

My in-game friends and I didn't know there were actual geometry-style bugs with Eden until its rewards were changed, because we were clocking exploit-grade times without actually cheating. Well, no more than stacked buffs and the like let us all cheat all the time, at least.

That's correct. Originally, there was no limit on how many critters you could aggro by whatever means you had of drawing aggro. Provoke, Rad Infection, you name it.

My brother figured out a bug with Trenchcoats to have invisible arms. He still has a few costumes like that. It sort of looks like Phantom Limb.

Sometimes invited villains into my hero side only missions, but in a co-op zone. It would flag them as a villain on entry if it kept them there, so I would kill them. It wouldn't always work.

You could also abuse the co-op zones to go to the opposite faction SG base sometimes. A byproduct of this you could drop IOs into bins but couldn't access them otherwise. I did that a few times to give my villains IOs. There were other ways to transfer IOs to the otherside but I never knew what they were.

There was a bug that would let you queue Assassin Strike but still TP away and AS from hundreds of yards away. Killing people standing in Caltrops or Rain powers was kinda funny.

One time on the test server, I was testing a build in Crey's Folly, maybe Issue 5 but I can't really remember. Anyway, there was a massive amount of Black Swans spawned out around the big building where the 39 Freaks spawned. Thirty or so at least. My brother and I tried to beat them but to no avail. We might still have a screenshot or demorecord somewhere around.

Oh:

For the first CoV beta PVP event in Bloody Bay, the devs told us that we'd be leveled to 15.

I looked at the stalker defense sets and saw that only one of the four sets (ninjitsu, dark armor, regeneration, and energy aura) provided status protection prior to level 16 - Dark Armor, with Obsidian Shield at 10.

So I made an AR/Dev blaster and made sure to have beanbag, taser, and targeting drone.

I then spent much of the event dropping caltrops and stuns on stalkers. I remember that Hide would work on police drones, so some would go into the helicopter to catch people on their way into the zone, and one beanbag and the drones would zap them.

My understanding is that my tactics had a lot of people focused on taking me out. I remember they set up an ambush with an ice/cold corruptor and actually got me once. Anyway, I was told later that apparently my tactics were causing a stir on villain broadcast.

Well, I was never involved in any of the big secrets or anything...there's only 1 thing I ever did that is confession-worthy.

A little background....my first ever character was a fire/fire blaster, Torched Earth, on Protector. I joined a SG, Knights of the Crimson Fist, and became pretty good friends with the SG Leader. September of 06, I left for Iraq, having pretty much only played this character, while making friends with a handful or ppl in this SG (and many others not in the SG). When I came back, the SG was barely active, and the previous leader had been gone so long he was no longer in the SG. He came back on shortly after I did, we talked, I got the new SG leader to invite and re-promote my friend to Leader. A few months went by, he went inactive again, secondary Leader became leader again.

A couple years passed, I was now a loyal member of the Justice server, on my new main Topher Wade. Out of curiosity, I logged back into Torched, and noticed the SG was completely inactive. The newish leader had been gone for about 6 months, and through attrition, I was about next in line to get leader spot.

After about a month, Torched became the leader. A couple months went by, and I realized I never played Torched anymore. I then looted every good Set IO, invention salvage piece, and Hami-O. Stopped playing the toon, and after a couple months, logged on to find him booted from the SG, with the following in my email:

From: Syanth (the new/secondary leader)
Subject: SG Base

Quote:
Hello- I am sorry that you feel you can take my items from the SG base. They were never intended to be public and taken by anyone. If you needed help with leveling or building a toon or with some influence I would have been very happy to assist you. It is too bad you felt you can take items from the base without even asking (or thanking me for the effort it took to collect all of those items. --Curtis"
I made hundreds of millions of inf off of what I looted, which in turn financed a lot of Topher's build (well, a few purple and pvp set IOs). I also never felt bad about it.

For one of the later ones I specifically rolled an Ice/Cold corruptor designed explicitly to go after all the Stone brutes I knew would be around, and just debuffed them and smoked them from the air.

I didn't know there were that many synonyms for some body parts. But if you were on a Stone brute and an Ice/Cold was snow storming you and then debuffing all your defense away and sniping you from the air, pretty sure it was me.

Cascade failure was still constantly on my mind back then and I knew defense was what was making Stone brutes strong, not resistance. Also, the tactics hadn't been invented yet to deal with an aggressive flying debuffer except to mez them from long range. Did I mention I slotted everything *with* range? I didn't need heavy damage slotting if I was going to slow someone to a stand still and plink them to death from outside their range.

Personally, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

I'm not thrilled by the art style, and I absolutely HATE the ONE FACE that everyone, everywhere, EVER gets saddled using. Seriously who the hell in their right mind thought it would be a good idea for an MMO to have only *one* face? And an Ugly one at that.

I don't care for the builds you're locked into using the free2play option, I much preferred the freeform builds I had when I originally tried it out. Maybe now that I'm not subbing to CoH, I might sub to CO so that I can take the powers I actually want again.

That sounds like it would push even our character creator to the limit. Small head, large hands, big feet, inflated chest, covered in pouches and buckles.

That's unfortunately the best I can do with the current set of tools. Some things might be beyond even our costume editor.

I don't know, that looks pretty close to me. The only thing missing is a humongous gun (inexplicably with two barrels) in addition to the sword.

The swords made the pouches inexplicable, and therefore I thought more characteristically Liefeldian.
