Confessions
My confession is that I'm not interested in the remaining days of the game. In my defense: imagine that you own a building that's been irreversibly condemned; nothing you do can save it from being torn down. It'd feel pretty futile to work on the building, wouldn't it? Any improvements, additions, etc. would just end up hauled off with the rest of the rubble. That's how I feel about CoH right now. I could work on getting another toon to 50--or closer to it--or try to get a purple-recipe drop to sell, or make a new toon. But, no matter what I do, it all vanishes before dawn of December 1st. Even if I heard that they made all accounts VIP, and made everything in the store available to all for free for the last month, it'd still feel futile. When I tried bringing back Pumpkinette, my usual Halloween-event toon, for this year's event (it's supposed to be Fusionette, who painted herself orange and dyed her hair green to trick-or-treat as a pumpkin), I just got no joy from being in-game. My mind keeps saying, "You know, you have other things to do that won't vaporize in a few weeks." Does anyone else experience this?

It's sad because I REALLY wanted to see my nature character get the high level powers, but I just have no desire to work that hard for it knowing it's for naught.

Better, perhaps, than the analogy that keeps coming to mind for me: sitting by the bedside of a terminally ill friend or relative. (As I did in RL earlier this year.)
Some people are up for that, in varying amounts. Others aren't.

And sometimes my RP was based around just being annoying because I saw people would be okay with something from one player and then complain about when another player RPed the same thing/way/what have you.

This is off topic, but I would have liked City Of Heroes to stick around even on life support for a couple more years, but I personally think the timing is right. The closure announcement forced me out of the City Of Heroes fan bubble and made me realize how long in the tooth our beloved game has gotten. Everything ends and this is only a video game. I knew it wouldn't last forever and that my main means of escape from my real life problems would disappear and force me to confront them. Well, the past two years I have and I've played less and less. I suppose the timing was just right for me.
If I ever do find myself playing video games regularly again, I know I will not buy from NC Soft. They really burned their customers and their employees. They could have shut this game down a little more graciously than they have planned. For God's sake, the ******* market isn't even free yet and I think it's ridiculous that they couldn't even do that for their customers in the end.
Well, it's late and I'm sick. I hope this made some sense.
I don't want to double post, but it's important for me to give my own confession here, so please understand everyone:
My confession is that I was too embarrassed to ever admit that I played City Of Heroes to my friends and family. For years I wanted to be a musician and I got to know a lot of people in the Philadelphia music scene. If any of them ever found out I'm sure they wouldn't have cared, but I was too cool to ever admit it and in turn I treated people in my S.G. like crap. I quit and came back several times to the game all the while with a holier-than-thou air that I'm sure was plenty obnoxious. Those people in the S.G. were there for me when I was very depressed and we all had a great time together. I used to make fun of role players, but I had a blast for about two solid years being one.
I, Aegaeon, want to thank you, every one of you, in The Empire Of Atlantis. You were great people to me and I'm sorry I was such a ****** bag. Thank you Leviathas, Nereidia, Bahamutas, Ophelia, From The Depths, and anyone else I did not name or may not have gotten to know better. I'm sorry I seemed so god damned crazy at times and I do regret never going to the one meet and greet that we had. I would have liked to meet some of you. Thank you for all the good times.
I'm the only one in my circle that played or ever heard of COX. If they ever found out, I'd get kicked out the circle. lol. but really only my husband knows and one rl gaming buddy. that is it.
2-hate fried chicken oh wait, you mean in game confessions. Well that is all.

Introductions, Obey,
Okay - this is a follow up all the way back to page three of this thread, where Satanic Hamster mentioned that Hamidon in the LGTF could be wormholed.
Well tonight, I just did it.
Kara Skye, my Grav/Kin controller Wormholed the nucleus of the Hamidon completely out of the goo, up the crater wall, to the top of the cliff, and all the way to the Helicopter! (Nothing but net!) Actually placing the last Wormhole spot IN the Helicopter. Then wormholed him BACK down the waterfall to the crater floor where we finally took him out. A truly epic finale.
Satanic Hamster. I really want to thank you so very much. If you hadn't clued me in on this, I never would've known and I would've missed this epic achievement.
They always say - pics or it didn't happen. Well I have both a demorecord file and many screenshots. Here's a few of them. Plus a transcript of the chatlog from the minute I made the first Wormhole. The reactions of my other teammates were priceless!

[Team] Professor Eviella: (Any chance of a MoDD or MoUG tomorrow, Whisper?)
[Team] Kara Skye: I'd love either of those
[Team] Professor Eviella: (MoDD is probably the easiest trial to MO, so good salvage for a new incarnate...)
[Team] Kara Skye: Y'know - I don't CARE that the challenge failed. I WORMHOLED HAMI INTO THE HELICOPTER!!!! MUA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
[Team] Professor Eviella: AMEN!
[Team] Sation: I am still chuckling over that
[Team] Merryl of Volt: Amen Kara
[Team] Ghost Chamber: That is, in fact, all that matters.
[Team] Professor Eviella: Thank you for sharing something new and special in this game with us, even now. :-)
[Team] Kara Skye: ."Hami in a Heli." There's your meme for the day.
[Team] Ghost Chamber: durr rtoggles help
[Team] Professor Eviella: I can't say I'm ok with the game ending now that I've seen that. But... it's maybe 1% less bad. :-)
[Team] Kara Skye: XD
[Team] Kara Skye: It is at that.
Epic!
Wow... The river and the waterfall pics are the best. I love the picture of Hami on the waterfall ledge with no one else in the shot. Makes me think of Evita Peron for some reason.
You don't hit smiling monsters - Sister Flame
So, Hyperstrike, you were buying the level 50 Range IO recipes too, eh? I vendored the Range IO recipes exclusively for the first 3 years of the Market because I figured they were the most useless of enhancements (in general). That they sold for a pretty high amount relative to the other Common IOs recipes and especially compared to Range SOs which nicely made up for how frequently I got Range SOs as drops. The multi-millions I made from them funded many of my characters.
However, I had to move on when someone started buying up the level 50 Range IO recipes for 80K Inf each for several years. Was that you? I just couldn't understand the reasoning for the 80K buy price because the sell price at the store for a level 50 Range IO is around 92K Inf. I could make more buying the level 45s along with no competition. I even knew when this buyer was on vacation and couldn't play because there would be a brief lull of a few days every so often when the price would drop to around 50K Inf, only to suddenly return to 80K Inf again with no price creep.
While I'm not doing as much vendoring anymore, I do keep and eye on them out of habit.
Anyway, on other topics:
I still have not respeced all my characters to Inherent Fitness. The process of respecing a character can take several days for me and is thus requires me to be in the right mood for all the work. I don't use Mids, just paper and pencil to add up the stats. This can take a day or two depending on if I'm switching to unfamiliar powers. However, most of the time is due to swapping characters to log into my several personal SG Bases to find if I have the IOs I want to use.
I have collected a decent amount of Purple IOs as drops, but I hardly use any Purples other than as individual pieces. I particularly like the +chance to hold on the Immob Purple. The only character where I did make an effort to use significant quantities of Purples was my Regen Brute. I had the hardest time staying alive on it. My play experience with Regen was almost as bad as with my Electric Armor Brute back when it didn't even have a heal.
Of the many nerfs that have been implemented, there were only two that really upset me. The first was when the mission reward Nemesis Staff was changed from Targeted AOE to single target. I had recently picked it up on my Emp Defender and with it I was finally dealing significant damage. For the first time, I really felt confident in my soloing ability. The AOE really made up for the base accuracy on it. Once it went single target, it became unreliable and just not fun anymore. I didn't have Tactics back then.
The second were the Controller nerfs of Issue-5 (?). It wasn't so much the AOE mez nerf, I could deal with that. It was the Pets nerf that pissed me off. I only had a Fire/Rad at the time and when my mass of Imps surged forward, it always brought a grin to my face. Why did it bother me? Again, it was that I was finally powerful after a hard slog, that it was being taken away. This was my first Controller and I estimate that I soloed it 70% of the way to low-40s when this nerf was put in. I don't know how many here ever tried to endure 32 levels of using nothing by Brawl, Air Superiority and Char (which wasn't even slotted for damage).
Speaking of my first Controller, Fire/Rad, I learned how to tank playing it. I learned about Defense, Resistance, aggro management (getting it, clustering, maintaining aggro), positioning, corner pulls, AOE taunting (with my AOE debuffs), and of course, herding. I could herd a good chunk of Perez Park. To this day, I'll still rush in if the Team meleers are too slow.
That said, I think the only time someone had possibly petitioned me about herding Perez Park was when I was fooling around with my Emp Defender (using Energy Torrent).
Next to my Emp Defender, I felt that my low level human form Warshade was the weakest archetype I have ever played. Things got a lot better when I finally made the decision to ditch human form so I could use the slots for Nova and Dwarf.
I really believe the original villain archetypes were composites of all things the forumites had been asking for as improvements to the hero archetypes. When I realized this, it was like seeing how the Genie had twisted your wishes.
The first character I made in COH was an Elec/Elec Blaster. I ditched after a few days because it looked so weak compared to other Blasters, especially Energy. Even though I later found out that their attack stats are basically the same, Electric's effects just doesn't have any oomph. Energy was all BAM! + knockdown/knockback, it looked powerful. Whereas Electric was a light bzzt + an orgasmic shiver. Eh. Even Electric Melee's effects was underwhelming, except Lighting Rod of course. If the Electric attacks (ranged and melee) just had louder impact sound effects, they would have been a much better experience.
Even though the game is coming to a close, I am still hoarding Insps in my SG Bases. Each Base has at least 4 full or almost full Insp storage bins. A couple of less used SG Bases has 5 Insp storage bins. Prior to the Market merge, my home server's main SG Base had 7 Insp bins. Why the obsession? It can be traced back to the early days when you couldn't buy Insps anywhere while on a TF. I was on a particularly difficult Synapse TF and my Insp tray was empty. I had sunk to a low and was trying to beg for Insps at the Train Station while getting to the next mission. No one gave me any You might say that I was traumatized by the episode.
Edit:
Oh yeah, back in the day, the Rikti teleporting-in sound effect always creeped me out. I think it was in part due to the Rikti Crash Site being so desolate. It was very lonely there and then this loud, menacing sound suddenly shocks me. I finally got over it when I took my Tank there to farm the Rikti Portals for Prestige.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
So, Hyperstrike, you were buying the level 50 Range IO recipes too, eh? Accuracy - 113,650
Damage - 116,100
Defense - 81,275
End Red - 107,975
Healing - 116,100
Range - 92,875
Recharge - 107,975
Sleep - 84,750
Stun - 88,225
As long as I bid under that value, it was guaranteed to make money as long as they filled. After I started crafting+Flipping once I hit 150M I only did this on alts and only for Range and Stun (Range would be bid at 62,875, Stun at 38,225). Nice way to make money if you have plenty of time but less capital at the outset of your career.

I never got a single character past level 44. Most of my characters sort of petered out in the mid-high 30's.
Last time I came back, I deleted ALL my characters to try to get a fresh start. Didn't work.
I hated AE, so much so that I quit for over a year after it was released. I still shudder at the thought of it.
I sold crafted IOs to make money for SOs. I liked how IOs worked in general - just could never be arsed to actually use 'em.
I absolutely hated when people would post character builds complete with enancements. Felt like that simply made the "character" a bag of numbers.
I absolutely hated DfB. It's like the devs gave up and said, "Wanna power-level? Sure, here you go - beat up on these beanbags, get leveled SOs, and repeat ad nauseum."
I liked the old Blaster inherent - you know, the one that greatly increased your Acc and Damage when you got really low on health. Not a fan of the wimpy-arsed new inherent.
My Kinetics Defender withheld Speed Boost until somebody noticed - which, barring Earth Tanks, could be a surprisingly long time.
My Tanks regularly stole aggro from Brutes on purpose.
I never played Kheldians or Arachnos, even when they became available at level 20. Just had absolutely zero interest in 'em.
After playing CO and DCUO, I've sort of been waiting for CoH to die. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but boy does it feel old.
And not a confession, but fun fact I just discovered: The word "arsed" isn't censored, but if you remove the "d," it is.
I'm trying to hit 1,000 posts and retire from forums..thanks

When Issue 18 brought us side switching, it was possible for a while to coalition Hero and Villain SGs together.
You needed someone with SG permission to form coalitions to switch sides. Once on the other side, they could form a coalition with an SG from that side.
While this was eventually fixed so you could no longer form new coalitions (I think it took until around I20 or so), oddly there was apparently no simple way for the devs to data mine for cross-faction coalitions such that they could break all such coalitions automatically. It took someone reporting the coalition, or some other way for a CS rep or what have you to notice it, and then it would be dissolved on a case-by case basis.
My Hero and Villain SGs have been in a coalition this whole time. They have basically been personal SGs for a long time now, and I was simply very cautious about who I told about their being in a coalition together. Most people didn't seem to know it was ever possible.
About all its good for is to make travel convenient between sides. Only Rogues and Vigilantes can take full advantage of it. You just hit the local SG portal, go in the other side's base and use their teleporters. It's been convenient for me for some time now getting my Rogues to the regular Hero-side Hamidon raids on Justice.
You can use it to get into Ouroboros Echo zones with Rogues.
If you try to send a full Villain to a Hero zone or vice versa, it won't work, barring degrees of exploit I'm not familiar with. You briefly appear in the target zone, then are teleported to Mercy (for Villains) or Atlas (for Heroes).
The coalition has one other good use, though: it grants a pretty high degree of access to Ouroboros missions from the other side for rogues and vigilantes. If you want to take a Rogue on a Hero arc, for example, you get them on a team together with the Hero in charge and go into the Hero base. The Hero starts the arc, and the villain can run it. There are a few oddities that were introduced in I20 that sometimes get your "grey" character kicked if they try to zone to a co-op area, but otherwise it works out great. (This bug actually affects grey-aligned characters on some normal TFs - a Rogue will get kicked off of a Kahn if they zone to a coop area or into a SG base.)
This coalition bug/oversight is probably the most severe exploit I've ever purposefully taken advantage of, except maybe some of I14's Architect missions. (I missed out on the most insane AE exploits, and mostly only used the ones I did take advantage of to earn inf or help friends PL, since I don't like to PL my own characters.)

So... Um... I... Yeah, I used to do ERP... kind of a lot...
Hell, I was making bases for ERP SGs for a while. Building dungeons that would make a Drow blush... Good times... Good times.
All that is planned fails. All that is born dies.
All that is built crumbles. This will always be true.
But memories remain, And that is beautiful.

Not my finest moment.

I am Lord Omi. Now and forever. They can take our City, but they can't take me.
Personally, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.
I'm not thrilled by the art style, and I absolutely HATE the ONE FACE that everyone, everywhere, EVER gets saddled using. Seriously who the hell in their right mind thought it would be a good idea for an MMO to have only *one* face? And an Ugly one at that. |
I like the default female face - very wide-eyed and sweet. But the default male face and body look like a ripoff of Mr. Incredible from "The Incredibles".
I found a way to get anyone into any Resistance underground base. Stumbled onto it by accident literally.
Teleport supression covers the entire chamber... except if you stand in the water. That little trench you have to skip over is immune to the supression so if you have recall friend; you can port anyone inside; hero, villain, rogue, vigilante or even Loyalist.
