  1. I have this problem with the fireflies aura that I purchased. I have it on a couple of characters, but I cannot select it on anyone else since the beginning of October. I have tried logging in and out, and I've tried restarting entirely but it seems like that aura has been permanently locked on me. I can enjoy it on the characters that have it, but can't add it to other costume slots apparently even on those characters that have it.

I also had incarnate missions become available to me but cannot play them as I am only premium. I have not actually subscribed since last November and did not have incarnate access at the time either. I have no idea what unlocked the missions, but all I can do is auto complete them.
  2. Big loss doesn't mean they're hurting for money... it means they're embarrassed and have to answer to their shareholders, so it looks like they're offering COH up as a sacrificial lamb to appease them. They can't do nothing, so they picked what they saw as a weak link --a small, but steady earner that failed to gain popularity in the Asian market-- and cut it loose. It won't fix their reported loss, but now they can claim they've done something and hope for things improve in the next quarter.
  3. I only just found out today and the article was dated Oct. 3, so I just assumed this was on time. But again, screw those guys.

With that in mind, I'd like to say that Aion is crap, GW2 is dead to me before I even look at it, and I will constantly be reminding everyone I know (internet and otherwise) that NCSoft is not a company worth spending money on as they can just pull the rug out from under a game that is profitable because they just don't feel like its making them enough money.

Screw those guys, I'm goin' home.
  5. Yeah, well, I don't see any reason to keep the fight to save COH positive after reading this:

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...-Cant-Be-Saved

NCSoft has finally publicly addressed the effort to save COH and politely told us no. And, as politely as I can manage, I'm going to wave my middle finger in the air at them as I boycott and slam their products as belonging to the MMO killer.

The can politely pound salt up their collective corporate *****.
  6. Sorry OP, but my sense of humor was cancelled with an official notice that the plug would be pulled on Nov 30th. Even though there is time left, I've checked out of the humor thing entirely and just can't see the funny. Why don't you get back to me with that during the next COH shut down? Maybe I'll be in a better mood then.
  7. All of the special edition game boxes, all the subscribed time paid in, all of the micro-transactions, all of the merchandise (hell, I even bought the loose leaf binders official game guide), etc... and what will I have to show for it after the game is turned off? A box of stuff that I can't use anymore and all of my character ideas locked away and unusable.

I can't justify to myself ever investing myself in another MMO like I did with this one. No matter how good the game is, this is my last MMO. Its just too depressing to think about no more COH.

From reports, City of Heroes was doing pretty well, with a still sizeable population and still substantial revenues. If the only business concern was to keep milking the cash cow, then NCSoft could have kept the game running.

But, NCSoft also had to be concerned about the viability of Paragon Studios, which included not only running CoH but also developing its "secret projects". After NCSoft suffered huge losses in Q2, they decided to cut something... and probably they chose PS and CoH because sacrificing CoH's relatively small profit was deemed an acceptable loss in order to get rid of the expense of continuing to support PS and the development of its secret projects.
Well, as a customer, I can say their acceptable loss does not sit well with me and they've not only lost any future prospective business from me, but I will continue to remind people about how NCSoft doesn't care about their customers --only their bottom line.

Here's a thought, though: Why not try to reduce costs from Paragon Studios before closing it and the game altogether so abruptly? Why not cut the super secret projects? Why not reduce staff? Why not merge servers and/or take other cost-saving measures to give the game a little more life? While it would have spelled out a slower but still assured doom, the players would have seen the writing on the wall and then the PR backlash wouldn't be so bad. Also, look at how people have been rallying to this game in the past two weeks? If we had say 6 months worth of time, for example, of NCSoft making obvious attempts to reduce costs on the game rather than cancelling it outright, then the customers would see what they're doing and maybe rally financially and see the game make a comeback before the plug was pulled.

There was no effort here. A callous decision was made to simply cut us off with a couple of months to go despite that we were all looking forward to the release of Issue 24 with something I would say goes beyond a passing or casual interest. Its a slap in the face to customers who have spent years supporting the game --and thereby the company-- leaving us with nothing to show for it after its gone.

You want VIP status? Non-VIP were too cheap or broke to support the game with a subscription and you think they're entitled to free VIP? Seriously?

If they gave them free VIP, then they'd have to refund every VIP that's paid for it - or it wouldn't be in the least bit fair. Of course, no one said life was fair.

I just wish NCSoft had a paid subscription from everyone who's stated that they should give free VIP to everyone, then maybe the game would have been profitable enough to keep.

I don't care to read/hear how free and premium players supported the game by spending money in the paragon market. If those same folks had been subbed, CoH might not have needed to switch to the hybrid model ( a desperation move) in the first place.
I have zero sympathy for free and premium players who whine about not having vip access -- (except those that just found the game in the past month. For those newer players, I have sympathy.)
When COH went free-to-play, I decided to go premium. I have spent plenty over the years buying every City of Heroes/Villains version and collectible that I could get my hands on. So I could keep paying $15 a month for access to some things that I would very infrequently use. I had only two level 50 characters and spent most of my time alting between various lower level characters, so incarnate stuff was never a big deal to me... something I'd get into later on down the road when I had both time and more money.

But even after going Premium, my support for the game was still financial as I continued to buy new powersets and costume pieces and temp powers. I've spent more money than I should have on the Paragon Market. You see, if I was subbing for $15 a month, I'd get those 400 points to use every month, but more often I wanted more stuff right away up front. There might be times I spent more than $15 a month... but what about those sub people that don't buy anything beyond their sub fee? Maybe THEY are the freeloaders for not making the Paragon Market more of a success.

Its a ridiculous assertion... as bass-ackwards as your's. The game's hybrid F2P model was designed to get income from both ends. I don't think anyone expected everyone to give up on subscriptions, and I don't think anyone expected everyone to maintain subscriptions AND spend extra money on the market stuff. Everyone contributed... yes, even the Free2Players, because I've seen more than a few occasions where teaming is difficult and thank goodness for the added numbers of players to the game to give the paying players reason to keep playing.

But you feel free to believe only subscribers' opinions matter. In the mean time, I agree with any and everyone who believe that VIP status should be opened up to everyone before the game closes. I don't think that time is now because for one, it would shatter any hope of the game being saved. Right now, there's still a guarded sense of optimism in some people. They're hoping that 33 Atlas Parks, thousands of signatures on virtual petitions, and media attention from celebrities and non-gaming related news mediums will force NCSoft to take notice of their fans and have the decency to sell the game to someone else who will maintain it. Take that away and any the remaining days of the game will be overshadowed by doom and gloom with a few bright, shining last hurrahs here and there.

And secondly, there's no reason to open everything up just yet. As pointed out, it would be somewhat unfair to the people who have actually paid for VIP status... but let's say November, with only a month left to play. Would anyone who is a VIP really begrudge everyone else getting access to all content for one last month before the game is gone forever? Are people really that petty that they would say, "Too bad, you didn't pay for it so you don't deserve one last opportunity to see all the game has to offer before they shut it off"? Because really, if that's the COH gaming community that exists, I've been gaming with my eyes and ears closed all this time. I was under the impression that the community as a whole was a lot more inclusive.
  9. What are those things you'll come away from this game never forgetting? And/or what things will you never get to accomplish that you always wanted to?

The weekend after the announcement was made, I got to fulfill one of my crazy ideas. While on the Synapse TF, I was able to finish off Babbage with a Jump Kick for 363 points of damage. There was a rad debuffer on the team, I used Call to Justice + Build Up + Against All Odds + a few red pills and nailed him due to a streakbreaker forcing the hit.

That which I regret not having the opportunity to do is to have an opportunity for my mind control dominator to scramble Statesman's brain with holds while pinning him against the wall with telekinesis. Ah well, the thought lives on in my head as a fond dream...

Any chance we could see the Power Slide "sprint" power added to the Paragon Market?

If we're considering alternatives, I'd be on board if we could do the same for other unlockable features... such as the cape and aura missions. It just bugs me to no end that we can't wear capes until level 20 in honor of Hero-1... unless you've been around in the game for awhile and get the single shoulder cape... or bought your way into the Valkyrie cape or High Collar cape. I guess certain capes are exempt from the honoring the fallen hero rule.

And what about auras? Hero side, the mission is offered as a means to gain better control over your powers. Seriously, what does my aura costume selection have to do with control over my powers? Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Maybe we could get some origin specific story arcs to earn this... because as it stands right now, its all sciency and that may work for science and mutant characters, maybe even tech. But mixing science with my magic characters just annoys the bejebus out of me.

But yeah, I'd be on board for other ways to join the Midnighter Club... other tests to prove outselves or whatever.

  16. There is much wisdom in the Shoveller's words.
  17. Civilians are invincible. Sure, they get mugged and kidnapped all the time, but they're apparently 100% resistant to all damage. Turning us into one of them would be over-powered.

They do get a cool-looking "Sprint" power with that crazy panicked run that they do.

My only real problem with secret identities is my character name. Okay, so I change into my civies but I've still got "Captain Super-Hero" above my head. Lots of people are just going to ignore my carefully written RP bio which explains everything they need to know about my character at a glance and just blurt out my secret identity while I'm walking around in civilian attire.

Me: Ho-hum, just walking to work at my Hospital day job. Sure hope no one bothers me. OH NO! A group of Outcasts... *GASP* There are too many people around to change into my costume... everyone will know that Joe Smith is really Captain Super-Hero! Whatever will I do?
Hero: Hey, Captain Super-Hero... let's take out these Outcasts then head over to Positron. I hear he's got something special for us.
    Me: #%$@!!
    Hero: What?
Me: I'm in disguise. No one's supposed to know who I am.
Hero: LMAO, shut up. You want in on Posi TF or what?

  19. I don't think it can understand even that. Understanding is not the point. I created it, I want to be able to make it stand still... not just dismiss it because its being naughty. Apparently, fire controllers can make flame to make others halt in their tracks... and can make flame that can walk on its own, but cannot make flame that will not move until the controller wills it to.

    Lame.
  20. But if you create a fire monkey, you should be able to say "Heel!" and have it at least not attack unless attacked. And then you should likewise be able to send it into a frenzy to attack whatever happens to be within range of its perception (not any target specifically, but just set them to attack in general).
  21. Control sets have always lacked a tech option. Sure, we could say any given set is tech just like any other powerset, but there's no control oriented Traps or Devices or weapons or whatever. Custom animations are the answer.

Take ye olde medicine pool scanner and retexture it into a device with buttons, knobs, and flashing... then add pulling out that dohickey and fussing with it/aiming it as an animation choice for powersets like Mind Control, Illusion Control, and even Gravity Control. "AH-HAHAHAH!! My Mind/Illusion/Gravity Control device has thwarted your evil schemes/heroic endeavors!!"

Fire Control? Give us the the flamethrower animation and let us launch special fire control effects from it. While we're at it, flamethrower would also make an excellent option to launch our Fire Blast attacks from. And, although I wouldn't want to tread on any trademarks, why should Mr. Freeze (or Captain Cold, or Blizzard, or whoever else) have all the fun with cold guns?

Honestly, I wouldn't care if the objects themselves weren't custom selectable/colorable like weapon customization as I think it would be more important to have the power effects which emanate from the devices be color-customized. But having devices puts us in the right direction.
  22. I can't afford the pack... and somehow missed out on the giveaway. Apparently was in the wrong Pocket D. :P

Anyhow, if I can ever manage to scrape together the cash for it (and not feel guilty for neglecting something else), the leaf aura and cape are going on this character:

And maybe put the steamjet aura on my big robot cowboy, Iron Desperado.
  23. If you're a solo squishy, removing aggro of one individual can be life saving.
  24. Boobs are everything. Fact of life.

Why else would people make such a fuss over them?
  25. Thanks for sharing. First time I've seen his work... I know where I'm going for commission requests now!
