Confessions
When purples were still very rare and expensive I deleted hundreds just for the hell of it.
Occasionally I would get bored and together with other marketeers we'd buy out a common salvage entirely and delete them all.
I have fallen asleep in the middle of a TF.
For a long time I owned a glitched level 9 PVP IO. They weren't even meant to exist at level 9.
That sounds like it would push even our character creator to the limit. Small head, large hands, big feet, inflated chest, covered in pouches and buckles.

As my flagship hero is an AR/Devices Blaster, I had way too much fun using Trip Mine on groups of Trolls trying to set up explosives in The Hollows.

... I think I'm supposed to stop them from blowing something up ...
That's unfortunately the best I can do with the current set of tools. Some things might be beyond even our costume editor. |
Needs More Pouches (where's the leg option with thigh pouches?)
Also, you need a separate slider for the feet so you can scale them down to tiny or non-existant
And for female models, the waist slider would need to go x2 to the left and the chest slider would need to go x3 to the right.
I... have farmed.
The first time was way back around Issue 2. I was asked along on a demon farm, back when the demons that came out of Oranbegan portals gave xp. (This was why they don't.) I was new, I didn't know what I was doing.
When I made a disposable character* for an event on Freedom a year (I think) ago, the one that gave a badge for your account, I did know better. But this was Freedom, that's what you do there. So I got her on a fire farm for a quick dozen levels.

After about a month, Torched became the leader. A couple months went by, and I realized I never played Torched anymore. I then looted every good Set IO, invention salvage piece, and Hami-O. Stopped playing the toon, and after a couple months, logged on to find him booted from the SG, with the following in my email:

I did something similar to this. I joined a guild that went inactive. Once I was leader, I kicked everyone and kept the stuff for myself. O.o;

I'm still not entirely sure what the heck I was intending to do with the fusion reactor and autonomous expert system, although the AES does create a decent loft space.

When the SG I was a member of became mostly inactive, I basically kept everything exactly as it was, created a personal base, moved most of my alts into that, and then farmed the bejeezus out of the game until I had the largest possible base plot and ran out of storage space to put all my stuff. Then I made a villain side base and did it again. And then I started to do that two more times on different servers.

From: Syanth (the new/secondary leader) Subject: SG Base I made hundreds of millions of inf off of what I looted, which in turn financed a lot of Topher's build (well, a few purple and pvp set IOs). I also never felt bad about it. |
Also, another confession. I was slowly buying up Centrioles at basically nothing and stuffing them into extra storage in adjunct bases, because I figured one day we'd be able to use converters on HOs.
Eventually, I would have suggested it to the devs if they didn't do it on their own.

You know, he's wrong about that. Any salvage in the base is fair game for all SG members. For him to think otherwise is actually wrong.

I have never Hami raided.
Ever.
In eight years.
(Until the night of the announcement, when the Paladin invited me to one. Alas, we didn't have the DPS to get through the first phase, and it was decided to try again some other time. So I still haven't completed one.)
See, back when I started, the Hamidon was for the hard-core, and consisted of trying out various strategies to get around its seemingly inassailable defenses. When a way of beating it was found, the devs of the time (Jack et al) would plug that hole in the next patch and the whole thing would start over again. They were apparently waiting for someone of finding the "right" way to do it, and I'm not sure that the players ever did.
Eventually the Hamidon was retooled into its current form and many people put it on "farm." And that was what we had for raiding, until the Mothership and then Incarnates.
But I was never a raider. It's probably my least favorite MMO-related activity, and why I stayed away from other MMOs (WoW, notably) in which that's the entire endgame. For a while there, I actually took pride in the fact that CoH, my game, didn't have raids like the others. It was different and special and not for regular MMO players. Eventually we did get raids, in a form that I could almost stomach. And I climbed the Incarnate trees (on some, not all of my characters - the ones who I could justify having that kind of demigodlike power), and once I had my T4s, I was done.
There was another reason, though.
From the very start, I questioned the wisdom of taking bits and pieces of the big blob and sticking them into yourself to increase your power(s). I imagined a future event where everyone with more than a certain number of Hami-Os became... infested. (If you've played the Underground Trial? Like that.) Maybe they'd lose control of some of their powers, or be taken over completely. Your character is now an NPC, an extension of the Hamidon.
I knew it would never really happen. The screaming from the players, all of them by definition the most hardcore segment of the playerbase, would be epic. It would drown out the flames over ED. But oh, it would sound so sweet to my "pure" characters, sitting on the sidelines. The ones who refused to take a bite of the apple, the promise of easy power for a cost to be named later.
