  1. My initial response is that I like it. The hacking bit got me thinking, though. I wonder if there would be a way to code in a virtual timeline of sorts, tracking the progression of a character. Most characters will transfer without issue, but if the system reads something that doesn't make sense, it flags the content for review, or flat refuses the transfer.

Granted, like some have said, there could be servers that don't care, and the people who are allowed to do this will end up on a server where everyone does it.

The other thing that I would want to watch for, with people in charge of their own servers and content, is the potential for copyright infringement. I'm not sure how similar games handle that situation, so I'll let someone else speak on it further.

    Confessions

I posted a new Lucy Dreamtime mission to the AE. The confession? Aside from really liking her as a character, I really only did it so that I could create all of my characters for people to fight in one massive mission. Also, it is near impossible to finish in some scenarios. When we only had three slots, all of my arcs were based on my characters. With the advent of the AE, I could now create more characters than I could ever play. I'm sure I wasn't the only one, but still.

I was creating an arc for AE about TV Tropes. It would have ruined your life.

I tell people that I'll do art commisions for them for free, because I know I'd come up with something awesome, but what I really mean to say is, "I'm not sure if I should, because it might take me several years to get it done." I should really say this to the people I work with, too, especially when they see something I've done, and offer me an impromptu art assignment.

    I actually enjoy playing Champions, and don't understand why some people hate it so much. O.o;

If your character's name was N1PPL3S (or other inane against-the-TOS rubbish), I'm the one (or one of the people) who reported you.

During the original Beta, I encouraged people to create copyrighted characters, so I could see how long it would take before their name and costume would be generic'ed.

Often, when I say, "I have to go," what it really means is, "...play a different character."
  6. Sent 4. Let me know if you would like more. I have some real doozies.

For example, I created a group for the Architect called La Femme Riot, and they consisted of all females: Freezer Burn, Gen. Disillusionment, La Femme Robotica, Mind Shredder, Rock Diva, and Zomblades. It's my take on a new Lucy Dreamtime mission, and it is PAINFUL! (at least at low levels, or in a full high level group) lol

Do you think you'd still get in trouble for mixing in some copyright violations? I made a pretty cool Darth Vader recently.

I also had some monstrosities created for a time travel arc, with low and high tech versions. Also, if you think something may not be represented, I can probably fill some gaps. I have cute, scary, monstrous, sexy, buff, scrawny, one catgirl, robots, and many others. Ironik can vouch for me, I'm sure. He's more prolific than I am, but we have a similar passion for, shall I say, completionism... lol
  7. A few more:

Thank you for the Architect system. I was working on some very interesting things there.

Thank you for the doppelgangers. I loved entering a mission in one costume, and then switching to a different one when my Doppelganger showed up. It worked best if I had "faction swap" costume, so they could look the part.

Thank you for the Alignment system. When the game was still in Beta, I know we pestered you all to create these elaborate missions that would allow us to become villains. This includes allowing the ATs to be created for whichever side you wanted right from creation.

Thank you for power customization. Defiance spent so long with a neon green costume, green glowy eyes, and blue energy blasts. Once I could do the bright green blasts, he felt whole. I was sooo looking forward to changing the power pool powers, too. Just when I thought I was done tweaking his look.

Thank you for the body sliders that ruined our characters looks at first, but that I eventually came to love. In conjunction with this, I also thank you for the Body Sculptors, so my smaller characters could pilot mechs, and some of my bulkier characters could have an alter-ego that wasn't just as bulky.

Thank you for Praetoria. The original missions and NPCs were cool, but they did not prepare me for the amazing zones, NPCs, and special challenges that would come in Going Rogue.

Thank you for zone phasing. While some people may not like it, I think that it adds that level of, "I did that," to the world. When I first saw the Habashy's together in Atlas, it was very heartwarming.

Thank you for the ongoing tutorial story arcs with Twinshot and Mr. Graves. These stories, while a bit heavy-handed on the tutorial for experienced players (and sometimes railroaded my character in to saying things they would never say, especially since one of my characters was a mute Arachnos Widow), were still fun to play, and I can say that I didn't see the endings coming... at least not explicitly. *hoorb* I am making happy air sounds at my friends. *hoorb*

Thank you for special events, holidays, trials, incarnates. My only 50 took 7 years to get there, and I unlocked a few things. After my "1 Level Per Character" project that I do for my MMO characters every year (I know, how OCD is this guy?), I planned on going back and unlocking the rest.

Thank you for Ouroboros. The setting was cool. The lore was ominous. I liked the fire/ice pillars. It's always fun to be a time traveler, and it even inspired me to create my own Mender-In-Training... or rogue Mender... or something, in Time Enigma.

Thank you for the LFG queue, even though most of the CoH community never learned to use them properly. Step One: click on which TFs, SFs, or trials you want to queue for. Step Two: Click the queue button. Step Three: Do stuff while you wait. It might take a bit, and that's ok. Oh, it might have been better if the queuing system worked on all of the same-language servers, though, dropping the new team on an instance server blade for the duration of the team.

Thank you for the Signature Story arcs. I still haven't finished them all, but I enjoyed the ones I played. I really enjoyed when my villain temporarily stole Synapse's power on top of my own. Smackdown ensued.

Thank you to anyone who would talk TV Tropes with me. I have had some bizarre conversations that start from that one word. Maybe it ruined my life.

    Oh, and added mine.
  9. In light of the announcement that negotiations are under way, I felt that I would reminisce about the things that I love about City of Heroes, City of Villains, City of Heroes: Going Rogue, and City of Heroes: Freedom.

First, I'm not sure how many of you know me, since I don't spend much time on any one character, even less time on the forums, and took 7 years to get one character to 50. In the early days, I provided some of the first CoH Avatars, based on the many villains you might run into, like the ones still accessible at this link:

Had to include the Gardvord in there, for his biggest fan, wherever you are.

My main character ever since the original Beta is Defiance (down there at the bottom), an En/En Blaster (I still claim that the Blaster inherent was named after him).
For a contest, I once won the title Ultimate Sniper for a month.
I was Cotton Gin-erator in the Historical Figure costume contest on Exalted.
I have been paying for a subscription to City of Heroes since before there was a City of Heroes.
I contributed 3 or 4 stories, and one comic strip, to the Jenkins lore.
I create alts, spreadsheets, character wallpapers (one of my favorites), avatars, sketches, and I love the creativity that CoH brought out in me.
The costume creator alone would have me lost for hours on end, especially when new items came available. I don't know how I survived CoH and CoV launches. The only other creator that I spent nearly as much time in is Spore, where you can find me on the same username (just not very often, lately).

I'd like to thank every Dev who ever logged into a character for a server event, whether it was a Rikti Commander in the CoH end of beta event; Manticore one-liner-ing me for chasing him down by myself as Poe's Raven during the CoV end of beta event; letting us trounce Positron, Synapse, Sister Psyche, and Statesman; Freitag inviting my lowbie Mastermind (Tsuki's Revenge) to go on an Architect mission that he was rating for a Dev Pick; or costume contests.

And to end, some things I have always wanted to see:
Mastermind "templates" instead of static pets, where the Thugs template can choose from Skulls, Hellions, regular thugs, other, um, thuggy kinds of minions, and robots could select Clockwork (either dimension), generic bots, or something along those lines. I just feel like it would be cool to have a character who breathes the lore in a way that the Lore pets don't really provide (at least I don't think they do). Also, it could be used to add gender equality in yet another place like Hellions and Skulls got.
Mastermind customization: I know this is a big one when talking frame rates, but I feel like we have had the same minions for the longest time, and would like either the above options under a "power customization" type mechanic, or allow it to only work client-side, so your frame rate is the only one that suffers.
Another Mastermind one, and then I'll come up with something else: My pets on the minimap. Where's my Pyro? *Click his name in the list* Oh, there he is, stuck trying to get down from a ramp. Man, that guy is dim.
I always wanted the zone danger colors to be dynamic based on your level, so when you go to a low level area, you can see that there's no challenge left there for you. It would help in new areas where you can immediately tell if you should even be there. Could auto-update when Exemplared or Sidekicked.
I wish there was a way to turn off certain buffs for screenshot purposes. For example, I don't want to see buff and debuff effects like Insight, Enrage, Luck, etc.

    I leave you with this:

I salute you all, and have great hopes that things will work themselves out.

    Not Goodbye

A few intersting ones for me:

My first real momory of beta testing was before the game launched. I was so psyched to be part of a game that I was looking forward to. Among the various minor things I found, the one that stood out the most was the GIANT FREAKING MISSING WALL in Kings Row. Man, I jumped through that thing so many times to see where I would land when it ported me back into the zone.

The ever popular crazed citizens, for whom the plaque across the Kings Row Tram was created for.

Another interesting one, to me, was after one of the major updates, possibly Going Rogue. Nearly all of my characters zoned into existing missions (possibly only policeband/paper missions), only to be greeted by obscenely overpowered enemies. For a while, the worst case of this was a level 14 greeted by level 20 - 30 enemies in their own solo mission. That was, of course, until one of my other low level villains ran a mission to defeat some boss and his guards, but was shocked to find that the boss had been replaced by Numina, but with the name BOSS_NAME. We're talking full-on Hero NUMINA! Another run got Manticore, but still, they were completely borked. Originally, I reported them, but when I got no response, I abandoned the bugged missions and continued with new ones.

My level 16 running a mission where the boss is the level 40 Hero, Numina

The same level 16 running the same mission, after selecting a new one and resetting, where the boss is the level 40 Hero, Manticore. What are YOU doing here? Now THAT'S a better question.

I also like how I will still randomly exit a mission into the small space inside the door frame of the building, preventing me from going anywhere, but luckily having the Pocket D VIP teleporter.

Not sure if this can still be done, but MMs used to be able to send their pets after the police drones at the edges of the PvP maps, and zone into the other faction's zones while their pets were vaporized.
  11. I am able to update the Test and Beta clients, but my main install gives me the OP error. I will try a few things and see what happens.
  12. Been playing this character since Beta, and I finally made time for my first ever 50. Everyone give a warm welcome for:

    Defiance - Energy/Energy Blaster [50 = 2011.11.06 21:56:40]

To answer a few questions, yes the Blaster inherent was named after me (not really, that I know of. lol), and yes, I'm the reason you couldn't have this name (on this server).
  13. Just the other day, I was thinking that we need some origin-specific auras that are similar to the HUD for tech, but options for more than just the head. Some of the origins could be diffiult to pin down, but magic and tech lend well to it. I know that there are already origin emotes, but I was thinking about giving people energy/psychic/supernatural/holographic armor overlays.

One of my ideas for magic was to have what looks like a spirit form over the top of your character, looking like they are channeling demon strength or something. This would add lots of possible character ideas for scrappers, where maybe they just use the spirit's hands, or maybe the spirit's head only shows up when fighting, etc.

Tech lends well to the process as well. It would be similar to Ice Armor and other power effects in some ways, but what it would allow people to do is show some type of energy armor over the top of their character. This would work great to show off special high tech energy gadgets.

[edit] Another idea that I thought of could be a shattering or eruption effect. Think of how something looks before it explodes (especially in anime, since everything explodes). You know where the cracks start to form and energy starts to escape? That energy effect could start just below the surface of the skin, and emit outwards, looking like some energy is escaping. [/edit]
  14. I know that this is supposed to be collab, but I started coloring my own drawing. And when I say coloring, I mean painting. It's a new technique that I've been calling Smudge Painting. Anyway, Here are the details that I posted at DeviantArt, which you can go download the full sized version here

I have started working on the color portion of Fr0stbyte's H0T SH0T character. I am attempting a smudge brush form of painting, where I create the flats, use a layer mask to isolate the section, and then start smudging in other colors. I am really liking where it is going so far. Completed section enlarged to show detail.

H0T SH0T here has been knocked back by an attack of some sort, and is preparing to unleash a fire blast at his foe. I am still trying to decide whether to add a drop of blood on the corner of his mouth, or if that is too cliche.
  15. Nope. When things looked their worst, people started to drop. Eventually, it was just me, so I ended it.

I'll look into HVAS, but I don't have a lot of Vanguard Merits (having spent most of them before we got all of the free stuff).

    Thanks for the suggestions.
  16. I rarely see any teams for Imperious (more my fault than anyone else's, probably), but I got invited to one tonight. Everything was going great until Romulus (Nictus). We couldn't get him separated from the Nictus for anything. We couldn't do enough damage to counter the heals, and we had little to no debuffs up.

I'm going to bed, but I should be back on later in the day.

    Character: Defiance
    AT: En/En Blaster
    Zone: Cimerora
  17. I also forgot to mention, I drew a horizon line and used a vanishing point for the two ruts in the ground. Now the feet look like they are both sliding in the same direction. lol

And thanks for the kind words, all. It's amazing what using reference material does.
  18. I can say with near certainty that it has. That's the face that I used on my Blaster ever since CoH Beta, and I have had to change it since then. Even the new one in Supernatural doesn't quite look right any more.

To me, however, it's not a huge deal, since I just look for the best face I can, whether it is a slightly, barely noticeable, difference, or a completely new face. I still have some characters whose correct face doesn't even exist in the creator, and I have to go with whatever I can stand.

That being said, I barely notice the difference on some faces, and don't consider the majority of the faces to be any darker or any more villainous than their original counterparts.
  19. Well, it came back up, but not as we remember it.
  20. WHTJunior

    is it all gone ?

I'm still not sure if this was the intended result, however. I mean, why would they just replace everything on the Training Room with characters from the Freedom server?

I am also one of those who had characters that were only on the Training Room. Since it has been down, I have recreated most of them on Exalted. Test Boy is the exception, since he belongs on the Training Room, and had been there since it opened.

    I guess we will see.
  21. So, after seeing some of the modifications by DeeDee, I have reworked the pose with some help from Poser4 (I know, oooold). This time, once I had the pose down, I couldn't stop. Here is the final sketch with costume. I may do some colors, but for now, they are up for grabs.
  22. The error message has changed to:

"Account Whtjunior is not allowed on this server. reason:"

Any word on when the Training Room will be back in action?
  23. Using these types of tools effectively (i.e. not locking people out of other content while using them) promotes more people using them. I am also optimistic in thinking that once Freedom goes live to everyone, there will be more people running through the content that hasn't seen a lot of traffic. For those of us who have reasons that we haven't been using the suggested alternatives, I'll just leave it at that, and hope for a tool that helps me, and others like me, get into more of the content.

It's possible that the Devs are looking for ways to improve the LFG tool. It could be more efficiently utilized.
  24. For those of us who want to run these, but never know if anyone is on to do them, could we please add a tab for these to the LFG tool?

Many of my characters never get around to doing any of these due to the sheer amount of standing around that happens while building a team. This way, you'll get groups together without all of the down time. Granted, they'll be PUGs, which I know some people hate, but that's the beauty of LFG. If you already have an SG, or other good team going, you can hit up LFG to fill a slot or two, or just won't need it.

For those of us who regularly miss out on this content due to limited time in game, or whatever reason, this would be a great addition.

Searching LFG on the forums doesn't bring up any results. That seems broken to me.
  25. WHTJunior

    Liberty Down?

Freedom and Liberty are both down. I was working on the Signature Story arc on Freedom when I got mapsevered. I was at the totem and the CoT spirit had just spawned.
