I tried Champions Online when I first started playing CoH... didn't like it. I've messed around a bit with DC Online... like the smoother graphics, but over all it sucks.

As a gamer who uses pictures of my CoH characters for my Champions pen n paper games, it would be nice if they made it so that we could at least keep the software in such a way as to be able to design costumes... doubt very much that will happen.

Someone better come out with a decent Super Hero MMO that I can deal with, or I'm going to be cranky for the rest of my life.

I've been playing AION for a few years but always come back to CoH as it's always been my home. Now my home is burning down.

I guess I'll stay in AION till those servers shut down.

I go by the name Blackbeard on all NA AION (Elyos faction) servers as well as EU's Perento (Asmodian faction) server. I've been running the AION fansite, Daevas.com, which is kind of what CoHFaces is. A social networking site for players of AION.

So, if anyone from Virtue plays, or ever decides to (though I doubt many will since NCsoft is the one that set fire to our house) feel free to look me up.

I also play The Secret World and GW2 as Arachnos Commander. But not so much anymore.

Thanks for all the years. Take care.

I'll be around as "phocks" in most games, if you're ever interested in finding me. Playing Guild Wars 2 - the folks at Arenanet are incredible developers, even if the people at NCsoft aren't the brightest. I might give Champions another whirl, but man oh man is it just not quite the same.

Hopefully, someone might have enough love for CoH to maybe their own server, SWG style. It's a long shot, but I can dream, right?

I'll be in GW2 for a while, having bought it before I saw all this. It doesn't tick half the boxes that CoH did, but then I've yet to play an MMO that does. Same main character name as here, in the unlikely event anyone wants to look me up.

I have a lifetime sub for CO, and I find it moderately fun to dip into now and then, but the gameplay doesn't hold my attention as a long term continuous thing.

I'm also in the betas (and intend to play when they go live) for Planetside 2 and End of Nations.

Mechwarrior Online is on my list to try, though I have no particular expectations of that one.

Maybe some more Diablo 3 - a co-worker loves it and keeps pestering me to play it with her.

Other than that, there's not really any MMOs on the horizon that I'm watching for, and I've tried most of the recent big releases which, while I enjoyed them for a little while, I tired of them fairly quickly (e.g. SW:TOR, TSW). I've got a backlog of non-MMOs to catch up with anyway e.g. bought Skyrim in the Steam Xmas sale and *still* haven't installed it yet.

Like others I honestly haven't got a clue. CoH was the first MMO I played only because it's super hero based rather than the generic and rather long-in-the-tooth fantasy genre. I've tried loads of others including Champions, EvE, Rift, Age of Conan, Dark Age of Camelot and SWG but they've never really felt "right". CO is mind numbingly boring and repetitive so I doubt I'll be going back there. DCUO looks nice, but the DC Universe doesn't appeal.

I had a fairly long break from CoH up until about May of this year and spent a couple of hours on MMORPG.com looking at various games to see if there was a gem I might have missed. None of the games that were out or due out (including GW2, incidentally) really appealed largely because they were based in a fantasy setting.

The only other possibility is MechWarrior Online which is due for release over the next couple of months. That said, I managed to get my girlfriend to play CoH and she absolutely loves it and is possibly even sadder than me at the news of its demise. I'd prefer a game that we can play together, and I think MWO might be a bit too hardcore for her tastes. (And what's weird is I'm still finding it hard to believe that I would be sat here typing a post with the line "News of City of Heroes' demise" any time soon).

I'm done with gaming. I've said it a million times in the forums and I'll say it again. This is my last game. I haven't even gamed in over a decade really and City Of Heroes is really it for me. It's been time for me to move on anyway. Strange timing indeed...

I feel this way some months. And I feel some similar strangeness in the synchronicity of this announcement with my own personal life.

But I must admit I'm also quite fond of indie games these days. I played Terraria when it came out. I still drop into Minecraft from time to time. I've been enjoying HOARD on steam. And if Project Zomboid gets Steam greenlighting, I may play in the mplayer version of that once it is developed.

If anyone is interested in staying in touch or teaming small server-wise in any of these or similar on Steam, even if we haven't teamed before, feel free to send me a friend invite.

On a more serious note, I'll probably try DCUO. Don't really like DC, but CO is crap, Star Wars and Trek are too limited and World of Grindcraft...hmm, maybe I can get the name Snaptooth for a Goblin. But I doubt I could really enjoy it, not after playing CoH.
CO may not be an amazing game, but at least it's an actual game. DCUO is half of a game. It's really really good for a day or two, then you hit max level and go "wtf?"

So much less customization, so many less powers to pick from. The world is beautiful, and the stories are interesting, but it's over in days. It could never hold my attention, but good luck, maybe you will like it more.

I'll keep on in CoH until the end of November, probably not as much as now and hope the City of Steam beta starts up around then. And I've been thinking about checking out Star Trek Online so....

Yeah, I love CO's freeform, but its archetypes (free player preset classes) take all the fun out of it. The fun of that game for me is crafting a character and picking the powers I want to fit it. Playing free isn't worth it, terrible F2P model. STO hilariously has the opposite problem: It's not worth subscribing, and free players get almost everything. Subscribing amounts to a bit of convenience and nothing more. If I wasn't LTS, I would have unsubbed a long time ago.

Absolutely agree. The archetypes are just enough to get by, but the freeform is fun as all get out. I haven't played STO in forever now, did they improve it after launch?

No where. CoH is the only MMO that has ever held my interest past the initial "honeymoon" phase of a MMO. The day we have to finally turn off the lights and put up the chairs inside our sgs, is the day I'll probably stop playing MMOs to any serious degree. I'll likely divert my focus to the fighting game scene than investing any further energies into another MMO.

I'll be in The Secret World. I started playing inta month ago, and it's ok, the atmosphere and investigsation missions and themes etc are cool, but it's all ****** open world like bloody WoW so you have to queue up to wait your turn for quest mobs and ...ah damn it, why did they close CoH down?

Never giving any money to NCSoft ever again.

/facepalm and now ive got to pray TSW doesn't die? Jesus, it's like a terrible nightmare.

Anyway, I'll be in TSW. if that dies, no idea what the hell i'll do.

Don't know if I will go anywhere. I played some WoW several years ago, but didn't stick with it long. Played Guild Wars, which I liked, but I don't know if I'll pick up GW2, since this whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth re: NCSoft. I'd considered trying Wildstar, but same deal.

Not really a big gamer any more anyway, but CoH always had more appeal than just gaming for me. If I do go to another MMO, I doubt I will ever do a subscription based one again. CoH was the only game I considered paying for regularly, even when I wasn't always playing.

It's a Funcom game, it will be fine. Anarchy Online is still alive and kicking, as is AoC, and they aren't exactly stellar successes.

I'll probably use my new free time to design my own game.

MMOs as they currently work are going the way of the Dodo. The key is to come up with the next great new idea.

Edit: I dunno what MMO if any, the only other one to keep my interest for more than 3 months is Eve-O. TF2 is the only other online game I currently play other than CoH.

H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

Wait for Planetside 2 or just go back to League of Legends. Was hoping to take a break from League of Legends today by coming back to CoH and then I hear the news. Wish I decided to come back sooner.

I'm very conflicted about what I'm going to do after November (going to stay on the ship til it sinks.)

I've been saving money for a new computer that I planned on building at the end of next month almost exclusively for COH purposes. I do think I'm going to need to find a replacement for COH after the servers close, but the only thing really appealing to me is Star Wars.

I loved the KOTOR games and I think the MMO looks great, but from what I've heard it's not in great financial shape. I really don't want to invest a lot of money in a new computer to play a game that gets shut down/bankrupted, but I guess th risk is going to be there with any newer game, and I absolutely don't want to jump into a pre-established game like WoW.

To top it all off, I really have no interest at all in traditional fantasy games, or anything FPS-y or reminiscent of FPS-yness (yes, that is a word.)

I think what I might end up doing is take a break from gaming for a bit until something really eye-catching comes out or Star Wars gets its act together. I've also read that it doesn't have an end game and that there are some annoying potentially game breaking things going on over there, so I'm a bit hesitant.
