5) Dinging 50 for the first time, and the excitement that I would now get to play a Kheldian. And I created Hunter Omega Prime immediately.
4) The community. Simply the best.
3) Running Positron (the old one!) with my wife, sister in law, and one of our friends. So awesome, and so fun.
2) Playing the same character for almost six years, and still finding new things to do, or old things to do again, and being able to play with anyone else!
1) My wife creating a character just to tell me in game that she was pregnant with our daughter. So awesome.
Thanks for a great game, and great memories. This sucks. -
My first as well, and I have been playing the same character since July of 2006. I am really going to miss Old Gray Soldier, my main, as well as Hunter Omega Prime, my Warshade. I remember how EXCITED I was when I hit 50 with OGS and got that DING and unlock for an EPIC AT, who was so fun to play all the way as well.
Damn, I am going to miss this game. I'm stupidly upset. -
I'm a little worried, with literally no one manning the ship, that we won't make it to November 30.
-
I'll be in The Secret World. Old Gray will live on, but it won't be the same.
-
Thanks for a wonderful game. I was shocked to read the announcement. This has been my main MMO home for almost 6 years, subscribed the whole time. Dang it, NCSoft.

Well, I'm guessing here, but I think those shadowed aliens running the test on the metagene, tall and robed as they were, may have been Dominators..

Quote:As you are setting this in the future (I assume), having a female Green Beret might be acceptable, but as of 2012, I believe that women cannot serve in any of the Special Forces. Indeed, they have only just recently opened some direct combat specialties to women. So Delta Force might be the best option... I can't find any mention of "officers" in the wiki article on them and seem they only recruit enlisted... Does this mean that Delta Force has no Officers? or that they Promoted from inside? Same thing with Marines... Marines have no officers?
It seems the best option is to make "The Captain" a Marine Officer which doesn't exist it seems so I might go with Green Beret for her... and then have the 3 other members be Delta Force
Someone can, of course, correct me if I am wrong. -

Quote:Well, E-2 at least is certainly a post boot-camp rank, at least it was when I was in the Air Force. I left basic as an Airman First Class (E-3), but most folks graduated as Airman (E-2). I assume the Army may be the same, and depending on the length of the tech school, you may go to your first duty station/posting/base as an E-2. I may be mistaken however.Ok so maybe I'm not getting this right because of terminology or something...
By Private do you mean PFC (E-3) or Private as in (E-1, E-2, and E-3). From what i'm reading E-1 and E-2 are new recruit/pre-graduation from boot camp and thus would never be put into any combat type thing so I'm assuming that what you mean by Private is PFC (E-3). -
Quote:Well, see, no, the drug was 'Venom', not Bane. Bane is the character, Venom is the drug. We first saw it when Batman became addicted to it while trying to overcome his physical limitations, well before Bane made an appearance.Bane is an illegitimate son of a English gentlemen who took part in a war on a spanish island. The island has a child must pay for the crimes of the parent if the parent is dead law resulting in him living in jail for his whole... various events left him in solitary confinement and he just happened to have idetic memory and the two lead to him reading a lot. Eventually he volunteered for an experiment and that is were he was introduced to Bane. Bane is a drug that enhances the users strength, and muscle mass, as well as promotes anger.
There is nothing out of the normal about those two (we could literally make Bane if we wanted to in real life). Catwoman's costume is not out of line or unrealistic. The whole point of her costume isn't practicality, but motif. She doesn't need to be nor should she be wearing a practical outfit.
As far as Bane's costume goes... Are you really telling me you couldn't think of a reason for him to dress like a Luchador? He's got a spanish heritage, sees Batman, doesn't care about cultural norms... yup couldn't possibly realistically be done.
The only reason it was even remotely ok what he did to Ra's is because we can just pretend that that is a brainwashed Ducard or just none of his secrets revealed so he still could be. The only character that I can think of off the top of my head that is a high profile rogue that wouldn't work realistically is Freeze... The rest is Nolan and the writers being dumb and not understanding reality.
As to not wearing a luchadore mask, Bane is not necessarily Mexican, and the luchadore masks are a primarily Mexican wrestling element. Who even says that Bane has the same origin in this story?
Nolan has done a fantastic job interpreting Batman, and I look forward to this third installment. If he can do with Bane's characterization that he did with the Joker, it will, in my opinion, be great. -
Quote:You suggest with this post that this is something that is even feasible. First of all, if this Marine unit is dropped down in Italia circa the first Julians, then nobody in the area is going to have a clue who this Yeshua is. Who cares about some rabble rousing Jew in Iudaea or Syria or wherever the heck he is? Heck, it's doubtful even Augustus or his heir Tiberius would have known or cared. That is what governors are for, and they know what to do with troublemakers.1) I think not waiting to find out is kinda foolish. We're talking a confirmation on a part of a religion that could change your destiny and how you think and act.
2) It only takes a few to go off the deep end and after one breaks the probability of others breaking rises and as more break so too do that probability of more.
I thought I covered this... if people found it to be true and actually understood the meaning of it being true is it would lead to them being followers or in cases like me they'd have almost no change other than a laugh that "hey at least they're vindicated in saying I'm going to hell"
Actually, becoming like Judas should be considered a good thing. Judas was loyal and he was given the task of selling Jesus out because he was the most loyal and the most understanding of why it needed to happen. He didn't betray anyone. He was given a mission that any other disciple would not have been able to follow through on. He's the good guy in the story despite what the churches feed people.
I think just the fact that the opportunity exists and someone would point it out would be enough to screw with the Marines. Some would rebel and some would desert and some would try to mutiny. I think that a like thing to happen pretty quickly and the longer the stay the longer the idea will fester.
So then the curious from this unit go to find him? How? Just hang out around Jerusalem for a few years until some schmuck shows up and starts ranting about money changers? And then wait for the whole arrest, and trial, and crucifixion and resurrection.
Of course, most theologians and historians are generally accepting of the existence of the historical Rebe Yeshua in some form or another, so final confirmation wouldn't mean anything one way or another. So why should that rock their world? And the existence of Christ doesn't prove hell one way or another; Jewish teaching, and this is what Christ would have taught as a rabbi, focused on the conception of Gehenna rather than the supposed home of a fallen angel.
And if these Marines ARE practicing Christians, they wouldn't fit in all that much with these folks either. They were, after all, just another bunch of Jews, and the traditions and practices of modern Christianity barely existed; the Bible as these Marines know it wouldn't be written for another few centuries. -
I had a chance to see it, and thought it was actually pretty good, and considering I am really so not a fan of gore, I appreciated the slightly less emphasis the film placed on that annoying element of modern horror.
And, hope you guys do not mind, but I forwarded your comments to my wife's uncle John Ptak. He is an executive producer for the movie (bought the rights at Tribeca), and was nervous about the reception! -

I was at the Celebration on Saturday, and I was told that at one point, they were allowing people to climb in and sit inside the ship until the Convention folks got a bit concerned about liability and stopped allowing it to happen (though it was apparently designed to ALLOW people to sit in it). It really was cool up close, and I ended up buying a Tie Interceptor from the original toy line because of it. It just looks wicked awesome.
And can I just say that those Legion folks that made all these props and costumes by hand have my undying envy and admiration? -

I am somewhat confused as to what the scrapper thought he was doing. Why would any scrapper pass up an opportunity to take down bosses and lts? Isn't that, like, the point of our existence?
Seriously, what was that approach about? -
Like others suggested, use those inspirations wisely. I fought him about the same level, as an AR/Fire blaster, and I found that if I stood still, I was dead. If I ran around and made him have to come to me, however, it was awesome. It was a fun fight. Run, open fire, run, buff the attack and snipe, then repeat. I liked having to move around and keep away!

Quote:Corrupted. Why should Cole have been 'corrupted'? Had he been an anti-Semite, it would have been perfectly natural just about anywhere he went. No 'corruption' would have been needed. How is it that you completely missed everything I said? 1 little iota had to do with the Holocaust in that post tangentially. The whole point of that post was to show why and where I was wrong about my idea about where the divergence took place.
The other Coles, presented as they are, wouldn't never be ok with the Holocaust. If they found out it was happening they'd stop it. This is because they as far as been told have virtually the same past. My reading of Reichsman description led me to think he did to, but rereading has shown it hasn't and one who didn't...who was more corrupted and disaffected as Reaichsman Cole seems to have been might given the proper coaxing.
And the Allies had the opportunity many times to 'stop' the Holocaust as you picture it, once they were aware of it. They never did. And did the Statesman in the primal universe? It is never clear.
As to the divergence issue, you suggested in your original post that he turned traitor or was brainwashed. Do you stick with either of these? -
Quote:I think you need to define what you mean by 'the Holocaust' because you are simply assuming that in the Reichsman timeline, it occured as it did here. Even here, the Final Solution to the Jewish Question, what we think of as 'the Holocaust', was not determined until after World War Two had started. Many Germans, shoot, many Europeans and an uncomfortable number of Americans thought the Nuremberg Laws and the isolation of Jews were perfectly acceptable and even necessary. It does NOT mean that they wanted the Jews dead. Who is to say that 6 death camps ever existed in the alternate timeline? The Germans did not exactly advertise what they were doing, either, and intentionally misled both Germans and the conquered populations. For God's sake, they made Jewish prisoners send home postcards saying what a great time they were having, just before they sent them to the gas chambers. But that is in THIS universe. Again, perhaps the sterilization route was taken. Perhaps Reinhard Heydrich was killed sooner, and never organized Wannsee. Perhaps Adolf Eichmann never existed to carry out Heydrich's grand vision. We just do not know.Old Gray, as I keep saying, unless other wise stated it is automatic that you assume that the same course of events happened up until the point of divergence. So if it is not implied and stated then the events happened exactly as they did for Primal Earth...
Now i haven't looked at and compared the 2 descripts, but rather read, processed, read... When you do that some things are lost so I'm willing to say that my previous idea on how and where the divergence occured may be wrong, so let's look at the descripts and see...
Statesman - "During the war, he had been exposed to Mustard Gas and become ill. He knew that he would prematurely die if he did not find the Well. Friends from his unit joined him in his search including Marcus's best friend, Stefan Richter. They became mercenaries trying to help Marcus find more information on where the Well of the Furies was and how to unlock its power"
Reichsman - "This Marcus Cole, from an alternate dimension, was a rogue and a mercenary who was exposed to mustard gas during World War I. In search of a cure for the effects of the gas, Marcus discovered the Well of the Furies."
Statesman implies that Cole enlisted with the military, got close with his units during the War and then been exposed to the Mustard Gas. After the war he became a merc with his unit to find the Well.
Reichsman says that Cole was a rogue and a mercanery and then got exposed to Mustard Gas. And also no mention of Stefan, but he still goes and looks for the Well.
So it seems the divergence happened before 1918... and if he's a Rogue it might imply that he never got over his parents death and that he was moved to Austria earlier as the only reason he's over there as Statesman Cole us cuz he's in the military and I don't think you could leave the country to go be a merc then, especially if you're a rogue at that time in history...
Also I never said they started the holocaust as soon as Nazis took over. I said given history that Marcus Cole wouldn't allow that to happen unless there was something else we didn't know in his background...
And perhaps Reichs Cole saw in Germany, a country of culture, a country with a glorious military history, a country full of pride that had been pointlessly humiliated and deserved his support. Perhaps he saw America as abandoning its promise to Germany to negotiate a just peace, and abandoned his birth place for his new home.
And can I just say that as a Pole, it is not easy to write nice things about early and mid 20th century Germany. :-/ -
Quote:As a history teacher, I disagree with some of this. You assume that THIS Cole fought for the Allies in World War One. This is not suggested anywhere in Reichsman narrative. As a mercenary, he may have chosen to fight for the Central Powers, which may have led to his meeting the man who would be Fuhrer before 1930. And Hitler was building the party well before 1930, as the failed Munich Putsch indicates.(snip)
So the earliest Cole and hitler could have met is 1930 because immediately after 1918 Cole took off to the far East where it has to be assumed that the Well of Furies is... And it took them till 1930 to find it, but they didn't come straight home because they didn't get back till 1931.
Between 1930 and 1933 it is likely Hitler was working on building the Nazi party which likely could have caught Cole's attention.
(snip)
I still don't think that would be enough to cause him to be ok with the holocaust, but then...
I think this is the only way to get by the Holocaust problem...
Cole, too, as a soldier in his own way, may have felt sympathy for the Germans, suffering under the Diktat of Versailles and its Article 231 (blaming Germany ENTIRELY for the war) which was imposed upon them by the vindictive allies.
You assume, too, that the Nazis imposed the Holocaust as soon as they came to power. This is not true. Even some Jews may have voted for the Nazis, who lessened their anti-Jewish rhetoric in favor of anti-Communist and 'strong Germany' rhetoric, at least until the end of the 1920's. The Nuremberg Laws were put into place in 1935, and in the world of this Marcus Cole, perhaps 'evacuation' of the Jews really did mean 'evacuation.' Not all Nazis favored the concentration camp model imposed by the SS just before Wannsee in 1942. The Holocaust as we think of it, with exterminations and death camps, does not really pick up steam until late 1941, though the Einsatzgruppen were active before then. Could Cole, as a mercenary, been active in the Einsatzgruppen, assuming he had internalized European and American anti-Semitism? THERE is a scary thought.
In our world, sterilization rather than evacuation was argued by many as a more humane, acceptable alternative (see, for example, Stuckart, Neumann, and Kritizinger, who argued against 'evacuation'). Perhaps that is what took place in Reichsman's world.
I would point out as well that anti-Semitism was not limited to Nazi Germany; much of Europe had no problem handing over their Jews to our own Nazis in this world, and even the United States felt it had too many Jews already (see, for example, the story of the SS St. Louis) -
Poor kid, too. Stuck with a name that was intended to reflect the ancient glory of the empire, referencing both the mythological founder of Rome and the first emperor. Gee, no pressure.

Not sure this is the right place, but it certainly is CoH/CoV related so here it is.
Massively has a response from NCSoft concerning a rather doom and gloom piece they ran concerning the CoX franchise a few days ago. Not sure if it is anything more than corporate speak, but worth a read I think.
If this should be elsewhere, I apologize. -
